Every time we go there with my family for dinner we wait for a long time. The food is not that good and service sucks!

Had dinner last night at Rudy's. I ordered 2 - Item Combination Plate, one Beef and one Chicken Enchilada . see photo. I did not expect bell peppers in both Enchiladas. If you do not like Bell Peppers.Ask for No Peppers.I have never hadBell Peppers in any Enchiladas in the past from other places. I picked them out and brushed aside. read more

I love to go to this restaurant. You can be walking down the street during Friday's Monrovia nights and the family will come out and great you and seat you for some amazing margaritas. The food and atmosphere are great and staff will treat you like family. read more

Best Mexican food in town. Rudy and his wife are amazing people providing a fun atmosphere right on Myrtle Ave. in the heart of old town Monrovia. All the food is fresh and delicious. They also make a mean Cadillac Margarita. We eat here at least once a week and we live here in Monrovia. We've had Max's, Pacos and Rigos. Not knocking any of those places but to me Rudys total package is better than all these other Mexican restaurants. Only one way to find out and make up your own mind. Friday's are a great day to come when the weather is nice because the Myrtle Ave. Street Fair is going on. Lots of fun. read more

The quality of Mexican food served at this restaurant cannot be beat anywhere. The cheese and pork enchiladas are particularly tastey. The only reason I am giving this 4 instead of 5 stars is that the salsa is a bit watery and the bathrooms are less than immaculate. GREAT PLACE TO EAT. read more

Very very disappointed with the food!!! We've been to Rudy's several times before and the food was good but something has definitely changed. I don't know if he has new cooks or he's trying to cut his costs because the food was absolutely terrible! We ordered the green enchiladas, Rudy's enchiladas and the lengua. The green sauce was the brightest green color I've ever seen..,it actually looked like they used green food coloring and completely bland...,no flavor at all! The chorizo in the red enchiladas was old and greasy and BLAND!!!! Same thing for the lengua dish. The only flavorful thing was the chips,salsa and beer. Our waiter was great but we will definitely not come back! Oh, I forgot to mention they are pricey especially for the quality of food they serve. read more

I love Mexican food, especially for breakfast and I've discovered that Rudy's is one of the best. Their salsa and chips are fresh and the machaca is to die for. First time here, our server was Randy. Excellent service, very friendly & prompt. The chips were served warm & the salsa was fresh. I ordered a taco plate with rice & beans. My partner ordered a flauta plate with rice & beans. Everything was fresh. The meat was good, not excellent. Over all everything was very good. Will be back! read more

The food is okay, but the service is slow. We got there after happy hour and it was not crowded but it still took over 15 minutes for a waiter to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then, at 9 pm they started to close it down. If we go back it would be earlier in hopes of better service read more

I have been a fan of Rudy's for years. The last two visits have been awful. Service is slow, food is salty and dry. Chips taste like they have been cooked in old oil and the friendly staff are no longer working there. Tonight was my last visit. Much better establishments in Monrovia now. read more

Wednesday night my friend and I took a lovely stroll in old Town Monrovia after work. We decided that we felt like grabbing a bite to eat. We went into Rudy's we stood around for a while waiting to be seated. One of the waitresses on break told the staff that we were waiting. ( She was ignored) Then my friend asked can we be seated? The lady never turned an answer and gave us a blank stare. That's when we knew it was time to leave. Such a shame I've been eating there since I was a child and was never treated that way previously. My friend and I decided to venture out and try something new. We ended up eating at Max's Mexican Cuisine it was great! We were seated extremely fast the chips and salsa came in the blink of an eye. Our drinks and food was amazing we had a great time. Hopefully Rudy's hires staff with better customer service skills. read more

Really good. My Enchilada and Relleno are just the right heat, just a little to watery for me. The service for my Grandson was very good. I read the comments about weak drinks, must be those who just want to get drunk, couldn't trust a drunks review anyway. Margaritas are good. read more

They only have corn tortillas for tacos, so was not really going to work for me. Tried a combination plate with a Chile Rilleno and cheese enchilada. Food is typical heavy sauce and heavy cheese. Food is fair but I am not really wanting to return anytime soon. read more

I came here on a Friday night while at the Monrovia "Farmers Market" (that will be another review). I really can't say there was anything good or even somewhat decent about this visit. Sure the waiters were nice to your face but that was about it. Took a while to greet us, then to seat us (when there was an empty table right there) was even longer. This is a VERY Americanized place that likes to put sauces and cheese all over everything. I asked for no cheese on the beans (my daughter is allergic to milk) 3 times. They forgot all-together to bring out any beans. When I reminded them for the "beans with no cheese" they brought out a big plate of room temp beans with, you guessed it, TONS of cheese. Also forgot tortillas. Margarita was very watered down and was nothing special with the mix. Just one of those jugs of the bright yellow/green margarita mix. To top it off, it was all very over priced. I will stick to my Grandma's house and taco trucks for Mexican food. read more

What in the hell has happened to customer service? This isn't just an idea for retail stores or customer call centers - RESTAURANTS - IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO COME BACK, SERVE GOOD FOOD AND EMPLOY A LITTLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The wife and I love Happy Hour. It's fun to go to new places and try small plates or half off apps & drinks. We'd read some good things about this place so we thought we'd try it. We show up, ask the server about drink specials, says he has a $4 Happy Hour margarita (read that on their website as well) - Sounds good, sign us up. Had a few drinks (smaller than an average margarita), some small bites, which were ok, but not great. Service was very, very slow even though we were some of the only people in the bar area. Decide to leave, get our bill - charged us $6.95 per drink. I ask another server, who we'd been passed off to about it and he says the $4 drink is smaller and what we ordered was the regular margarita. I did't even have a buzz, not even a hint, nothing. I tell him we thought we were ordering the smaller $4 drink, that is what we asked for in the first place and to be honest the drinks we were served were pretty weak (and about 80% ice). The bill came to nearly $50 on four drinks and some crappy street tacos at HAPPY HOUR. We rightfully felt ripped-off. First off, I should preface by saying that if we ever complain about service or food to a waiter or manager - we do not expect anything but maybe some empathy, anything beyond that falls in the category of good customer service. People have bad days, things get mixed up, orders wrong, etc, but kindness and understanding can make it all better. He didn't apologize or even try to explain how a mix up like that could happen. He dismisses us, like it was our fault we were being overcharged. I tell him I think they should make it more clear especially during Happy Hour and that a block away at Sena on Myrtle, their Happy Hour drinks are twice the size, alot stronger and half the price. He shrugs his shoulders, replies "Yea, probably" and walks away. What a JERK. Not, "oh, sorry about the confusion" or "our bad" or "oh, let me see what I can do" or even "sorry". None of that. Charter Cable has better customers service than this place. Don't waste your time here. This place doesn't deserve your business. read more

I LOVE Rudy's!! They offer delicious food in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with truly excellent service. My family and I have been eating there for over 20 years, and we really look forward to each meal there. I especially love the chili rellenos, you've just got to give them a try. read more

This has been our favorite place for years, family run operation with incredible margaritas! Totally for the whole family the bar has great televisions for sports and private party's. The best part Rudy is always around to say hello and take care of his guests. read more

Chips and salsa are great. The food is so so. We have been here twice and both times did not have the best experience. The first time we were sat literally in front of the kitchen door. Not the best place to sit and the service was slow. We live in the area so we decided to give it another try. Never again. We went on a Friday night so yes, it was very busy. The issue was the fact that it took 45 mins for to get 1 bean and cheese burrito and an enchilada plate. ALL of the tables around us were served before us and these were people that came after us. Our waiter seemed to forget about us - several times. I had to flag him down several times by waving my armsin the air and even one time I had to physically go find him and ask where our food was. We did voice our displeasure and he did nothing. The owner even went to the tables next to us to shmooze them and not once said a word to us. This was after we had already ran into a few issues with our waiter. We won't be giving this place another chance. If the food was outstanding then I am sure we would try again but it is just average. read more

The flavor in the main dishes were very bland. The chicken in my enchiladas were very dry. When asked for the check it took very very long to receive. My boyfriend eventually had to go up and pay. Dropped in for an early dinner. Service was friendly and prompt during my visit. Hot chips and juicy pico de gallo. Ordered the Monrovia which is shrimp and chicken topped with melted cheese, avocado, etc. The beans with cheese tasted fresh and the rice was moist and well seasoned. So disappointed! My wife & I used to frequent Rudy's when we lived in Pasadena. When we went to the Farmer's Market, we always went there for dinner. We recently passed through town and stopped by looking forward to some Mexican food. My wife went to the restroom and when she came back she looked like she had seen a ghost. Should have been our first sign....disgusting restroom! Service was slow, restaurant was quiet...second sign. We ordered, food came out (Rudy's enchiladas for me, beef taquitos for her). Food was room temperature at best and had no flavor. It's sad to say it, but we will not be returning to Rudy's. I hate writing bad reviews. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt. Our last visit prior to this one was only slightly better than this one. We will make the drive to the Pasadena area and go to Margarita's instead. read more

If you come here, the food is of decent quality. They will make decent, average Mexican meals and food. Also, they have a very limited selection of drinks and beers. Plus if you want to order something, they end up taking a very long time and end up bringing the drinks very last. This is based on my experience I had the other day. If you want to have good quality Mexican food, I honestly would suggest going to this place called Peppers in Arcadia. They are a better alternative to this place. Or go walk to T Phillips across the street instead. I will rate this place overall between 2 to 3. read more

I would have given it five stars but the place is FILTHY. The walls (which are brick) have so much dirt on them the mortar looks black. The top of the lights that are hanging above the tables are black with dust. Carpet needs to be ripped out. So gross. Won't be back until they clean the place. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Rudy's is a health sanitation nightmare. Even as you walk in, you can smell the old caked-up grease souring on the walls. When the hostess brought us our chips and salsa, her long acrylic fingernail was soaking in the salsa. Moreover, halfway into the meal, this same hostess started shaking out the area rugs in the waitstaff service area merely 12 ft from us. Then she proceeded to sweep up a day's worth of foot traffic, pour buckets of water in the service area, and then mop. Needlessly to say, our meal did not taste very delicious. read more

Just finished eating here food was OK service took sometime but when we received it, it was somewhat sweet and short. We had serveral people in our group so I went to the register and asked the young man for change I had 5 20's which equals $100.00 well I get back 80 and didn't realize it until I got back to my table so I go back to the register and tell him he I'm missing a 20 after him supposedly "checking" the cash register he continues to tell me that I must be mistaken its not like he put it in his pocket!! At this point I said screw the 20 I just want to get the hell out of here. I would never come back here. The only thing that made my experience I had was having great company, but that company can follow me to another resturant ! read more
