Although this is more of a wine bar, I thoroughly enjoyed the food here, as it hit all the flavors I was looking for. The crostini was a delicious starter and the salad the right size to keep me interested. For dinner, I had the Honey glazed salmon and mashed potatoes and the wife had the Surf & Turf dinner, which was fill and required us to take home a portion of our dinner. Went to the The Saltner recently and was really disappointed. We were a party of 4 and only two other couples were in the establishment. Ordered a charcuterie board and it took 30 minutes to have it sent to our table. When we asked the owner what was going on with our order, she snapped at us and was very rude. When we received our order the order looked like a bunch of meats and cheeses and olives from Trader Joe's and they just put it on a board. This restaurant has a nice ambiance at first glance. Pretty cozy interior. It was Friday night around 6:45. Plenty of tables available then we found out they have an event/party on going. Guests from that party spilled over to the main area of the restaurant where we are sitting. I am sure their guests were all enjoying themselves but for the few customers at the restaurant that were not part of the party, it was noisy and I can't even hear the background music. As for the food, our server indicated that they have had events in the past week. So some items we want to try were not available including the pate， chicken meatball and lobsber bisque. That was disappointing. I do recommend the goat cheese bruschetta. The crostini was toasted to perfection and proportion of goat cheese, strawberry, honey and walnuts were just right. Disappointing experience -- unequal treatment and consistently poor service I've visited Saltner Wine & Cicchetti five times, and after giving it more than enough chances last week, I won't be coming back. If you're white, expect a warm welcome, personal attention, and friendly conversation from the owner (or manager, not too sure who she is). If you're a person of color -- Hispanic, Black, Italian, Asian,or otherwise -- prepare to feel like an inconvenience. Every time we visited, the owner made a point to connect with white customers while sending the only staff member of color to serve our table exclusively. We were routinely overlooked while she chatted and built relationships with everyone else. The contrast was clear and repeated across every visit. On top of that, service has been consistently slow and inattentive. We had to follow up multiple times to check on our food orders, which were always delayed -- often arriving much later than other tables who were seated after us. Not once did the owner check in on us, apologize, or make an effort to explain or resolve the issue. This pattern of behavior is disappointing and disheartening. Guests should be treated with the same level of respect and hospitality regardless of their background. That has not been our experience here. After five visits, this was our last. read more

Tried for the first time. No one was there but us, 5 of us. We ordered wine and then the food. After more than an hour of waiting, only one of us got food. Horrible long wait. The waitress even told us this was normal. Service was ok, but the cook needs help to get the food out in a reasonable time. I left after 1.5 hours hungry since my food never came. Came here for the first time with my old coworkers, was able to get a nice sweet wine (I don't like to drink wine) on the recommendation of the server, who I assume is the owner. Everything we had was delicious, however, it takes a very very long time for anything to come out of the kitchen, I believe there may have only been one person back there for the bulk of our visit. The bread does take an exceptionally long time, but it was fresh, warm and delicious. We got the large meat and cheese platter, the steak bites, pork belly, salmon.. everything got devoured. I came here on a Friday night with my wife since we were in town for a music event the next day, we wanted a nice quiet place to unwind since she has been very busy at work. When we arrived we sat at the bar and got menus for food and wine, after we ordered our first glasses we were able to chat and talk about food and wine with Julie. She was very nice and knowledgeable about both the wines and the food and let us sample a few bottles to decide on our next round of glasses. She also told us that they do a lot of food and wine pairings events, which we both love. The food came out and I got the pork belly which was really delicious and my wife got the salmon which she loved. When they first opened, this place had potential. Fast forward to recent years...its a now dive bar for Wine-o's that try to charge a premium price. The owner is constantly drunk while working, and smokes out front while patrons are trying to eat and enjoy themselves. They hire staff that knows NOTHING about wine if you have questions on the selection. When they first opened, they had a massive book/menu for wines and the options were intimidating. Now its just a couple 1-2 pages to choose from, slim pickings. The food...well lets just say this isn't a restaurant so your getting low quality, quickly served cheap appetizer stuff. I ordered something that had steak bites, and it was served cold/chilled. But what makes me mad is they constantly overcharge when you get your bill. Ordering glasses of wine listed as $12 or $14 on the menu...and your bill comes in stating they are $15 to $18 each. Sadly, im not coming back. This place is a hard pass. read more

I've seen some of the crazy reviews about people being yelled at. I didn't think it would happen to me. We walked here after dinner at Mikomi. The server's name was Juli. Everything started off great. We walked inside and Juli said we could sit wherever so we sat ourselves outside. Before she took our order, she asked if it was OK for her to smoke near our table. We said it was okay. She then recommended some wine. I said I was looking for Cab Sauvs but she recommended other wines that weren't Cabs and I was fine with that. My fiancé ordered one glass of white wine. Since this wasn't our first time here, I trusted her recommendations. She told me about an Armenian wine that sounded good so I agreed to have it. She poured the glass and I liked it, but then she said it wasn't the Armenian because she had ran out of it...? I didn't end up catching the name of this wine. I wanted another glass of wine so I also ordered some bread with olive oil to accompany the second glass, which she mentioned was a Greek wine. So we are sitting there, slowly sipping on our wine. About 15min go by, no bread. The next time she stops by I let her know the Greek wine was tasty and ask how long on the bread. She tells us it's freshly baked so it would take a while. 30 more minutes go by, no bread still, so we decide to go. We go inside to ask for the bill and pay. I reminded her to remove the bread charge because we never got it. She then told us she didn't charge us for the bread in the first place and reiterated that the bread takes 10-20min to bake...? At this point, I'm thinking that probably means she never placed the order. Regardless, I let her know we wanted a bottle of the first red wine she served me. Things just go downhill from here. While she was adding the wine bottle to the bill, I was standing there reading the names of some of the wines on display. Suddenly she asked if we had "another problem". I told her I was just reading the names of the bottles but she seemed upset... Then my fiancé noticed on the POS display that Juli double charged us for one of the red wines. I tried to let her know that I only had two glasses of wine and my fiancé only had one and we were just trying to add the bottle of the first red I had. I assumed she had made a simple mistake. Boy was I wrong. This is when Juli raises her voice and starts yelling at us. I thought I was being Punk'd or something! It felt so surreal. The first thing out of her mouth was how she "didn't have a single drink tonight" and as an owner she "knows" what we ordered and can't afford to be eating costs like this. Meanwhile I'm calmly speaking to her to get the bill corrected and pay so we could go on with our evening. She then accuses my fiancé of being "trashed and can't walk" and therefore wrong about the charge. At this point, I cancel the bottle. This upsets Juli more because now she's telling us to "get the f*** out". I still wanted to pay for our glasses of wine that we actually drank and figured she was having a bad night but Juli continues telling us to "get the f*** out" and that we aren't allowed back. There was maybe 4 or 5 people inside during all of this. I figured if she tries to accuse us of skipping out on the bill there is a handful of witnesses. As soon as Juli said we don't need to pay, I walk towards the door. She then follows us and yells that if she sees our license plate she's calling the cops because we shouldn't be driving. What a lovely little wine bar. My husband and I live in OC, but we were in the area. We stopped in for a bottle of wine before we had to head back home. This was on Sunday morning around 10:30 am. We had already eaten breakfast, but the menu here sure sounds amazing. We are always looking for great wine bars with tapas/ small plates. Lo was our bartender, and she was very personable and knowledgeable about all the wine. We went with a bottle of Pinot Gris, as it was 95 degrees outside. As a wine enthusiast- especially European wines- it's pretty difficult to find anywhere with a selection that's better than big brand wine stores. Choice of cheese I chose ages Gouda and some truffle cheese I forgot the name. Both were tasty and melts in your mouth with a thin slice. It came with a small dish of chopped nuts with honey and another little side of olives. The olives had seed. The wine prices ranged from 30 and up. Although I was going to order one type of wine, the waiter said they ran out of that and suggested a similar one. I took his advice and went with the similar after tasting it and later the waiter says those prices are outdated. So the bottle price was actually 45. Just an FYI. I previously thought it was an Italian restaurant but it is not. It's a HARDCORE WINE BAR with large selection of international wines. They serve small bites like meat and cheese, pasta, sautéed mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, shepherds pie. The sautéed mushrooms are like crack! The portion is enough for 1 or 2...but it tastes beyond good. My tastebuds were in ecstasy. I ordered a cote du Rhône white and charcuterie plates to go for a party the next day. Around $30 for one, the charcuterie plate serves 2 or 3 people, which comes with high quality prosciutto, really good sausage, 3 kinds of cheese.
