Either that or I got the wrong staff on a Thursday afternoon. My order: 1ea of a fish and shrimp taco, chips and guacamole, model especial. The Good: nothing beats a cold modelo after a round of golf at Zaca Creek GC with family. I got a variety of their salsas from the salsa bar and they were all very good. The Bad: everything else. The breaded fish and shrimp were just that, breading. Whatever was inside perpetrating sea food was nonexistent and fried to oblivion. I didn't finish either. The Ugly: chips and guacamole were a complete disaster. The texture was loose, liquidy, and bland. It was most likely store bought. The chips were the worst thing I ate, and that's saying something. There were 2 types in the basket; stale and ridiculously stale. I believe that they reuse chips as the lighter of the two looked and tasted like they had been out for a couple of days while the darker ones were made maybe a day before. I don't complain in the moment as the last thing I want is a remade version of that garbage made by an angry cook. However, while walking the meal back inside to put it where it belonged, the employee asked if I had an issue with the chips. I told her they were extremely stale and got an apology. Good enough earning the 1-star. Overall: now that I'm writing this, we were one of the first customers of the day and maybe they weren't ready and cut corners to get caught up. Not excusing it but trying to find anything redeeming about the experience. Safe to say that I will only go back for the modelo.

I tried the enchiladas with steak and it was delicious. It comes with three but it's not much. The beans and rice was 5/5 as well. It's easy to get distracted walking in a touristy area, so you'll miss it if not paying attention! The restaurant itself is small, but there's indoor seating and a few tables outside. Luckily on our visit the restaurant wasn't too busy. I decided to order chicken enchiladas. The prices here are very reasonable for what you get. The enchiladas were delicious! My son ordered the cheese pupusas, which I was able to try and they were perfect. I would definitely order those myself. My cousins enjoyed their meals as well. Our food was prepared and served in a timely manner. I was surprised how fast we were served, yet the food was satisfactory. Overall, a great little spot to satisfy your Mexican food needs. Especially if you're wanting a comfort meal after all the pastries you've eaten ha!

As vegetarians, my family usually struggles to find decent offerings at Mexican restaurants,…read moreusually settling for bland bean-and-rice burritos, cheese enchiladas that clearly were made haphazardly (if not out-right cooked from the freezer), or calorie-bombed nachos. This is not the case at Dos Carlitos in Santa Ines! Yes, my kids split the order of nachos, but the ratio of black beans, tomatoes, and guacamole to cheese made this mother happy. The vegetable tostada was loaded with grilled vegetables and the freshly-made tortillas were incredible! Finally, the cheese enchiladas (we're creatures of habit) were freshly cooked, with more of those in-house tortillas, and they were, according to my husband, some of the most delicious that he's had in a long time. Service was courteous and prompt, and we were greeted by the host in a very pleasant manner. I have to give a shout-out to our busboy, who was fantastic, ready with water or chip refills before we even thought to ask (whatever his name was, he was working Thursday, July 23 at noon). In short, Dos Carlitos is a first-rate Mexican restaurant! We love how it is not loud or overfilled with patrons. One might balk at some of the high prices, but in general I have to say it was overall worth it!

The line always moves fast and the food comes out quickly too. What compelled me to write this review was because I had a delicious pescado a la diabla, which was a daily special. The fish was a huge portion -- a whole filet with a delicious spicy sauce, perfectly cooked and flaky. The rice and beans are always great, perfectly seasoned and cooked. I also had a passionfruit margarita which was big and well balanced. The salsa bar is very good; the habanero salsa is really tasty but their old version without cream was one of the best salsa I ever had and I'm so sad they don't offer it anymore. It was legitimately spicy. I always love coming here with my friends after a movie so we can discuss the flick over some great mexican food.

The steak nachos had toppings spread throughout the chips, not just sitting on top which has been my experience at some other restaurants. The quesabirria special is my go to dish here, the meat is so tender and flavorful!
