Can't say enough good things about this Rudy's location. We have two Rudy's closer to us, but they're not nearly as good, so we drive out of our way to go to this one. It used to be owned by a really nice man who often spent a lot of time visiting & talking to the customers. He did a lot with the local school district's sports team, too. Sadly, he passed away, but his son now owns this place & is just as nice. My ASL isn't what it used to be, so we often talk to each other by writing down what we want to say (he's deaf). He never fails to smile and wave when he sees us. We missed going here during the pandemic when everything was closed. I'm so happy this place managed to survive the lockdown. I got the daily special, which is a half sub, fries, and a soft drink. I got the cheeseburger sub because I don't know of any other sub place that offers cheeseburgers subs (something I loved in my younger days in Maryland). But his cheesesteak sub is really good, too. Sometimes it's downright painful trying to make up my mind what to order. Kiddos got grilled cheese kids meals, which is actually on a hamburger bun, not wimpy bread. It holds up better & one got the dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets kids meal. By the time I realized I'd forgotten to snap a pic of them, they'd already devoured them. The prices are reasonable, the people are friendly, and the food is good. It's one of our favorite places, even if we have to drive out of our way to go there. read more

This was my first time ever at Rudy's ... it was fair. The place was fairly empty when I went in for lunch. Two people working which seemed like plenty. The menu is pretty big and I actually think the kids would do well here, but it was just me for lunch. I got a cheesesteak. The first several bites were really dry. It took until the middle of the sun before I hit the mushrooms and peppers. I'd also asked for onions. Which I finally got to in my last several bites. If they would have evened out the toppings on the sub rather than piling them in spots it would have been much better. Not sure if I'll go again. Sub I thought was small for a half size too. But I guess that's their normal size. read more

The Monroeville site is pitiful. The woman who answers the phone is a total ***ch. They don't answer the phone for 45 minutes before they close. When I am able to order my food, it is wonderful! I just wish they can get better employees than crack heads. Really... the crack heads gotta go, and you know who you are. Clean house Rudys! read more

I've tried the Italian sub and the meatball. I've order both multiple times and they always turn out great. Every time I go in to order they're always very busy but I never have to wait long for my food. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a good lunch spot. read more

Great sub shop on the Golden Mile Parkway in Monroeville. Plenty of choices, sides. This time I had a whole Cappicola, which is about 12 inches. Good fresh bread, Cap was delicious, a little spicy, which I love. I added pepperoni, bacon, provolone, and grilled onions. Then topped it off with Ranch dressing. A side of yummy onion rings, beer battered, crunchy, tender onions, fried perfect. Sub was delicious, a great sandwich shop in Monroeville. read more

I will start withbtge Italian hogie. It's been a while since I have eaten here and I had forgotten why. My family owned 3 Rudy's stores. Plum, Cheswick and west view. We had in my opinion the very best Italian I ever ate. Ever. Capicola, hard salami and soft salami "cooked salami". Now the softcsslami has been replaced with a shoe leather tasting ham. Plain ham. It's not a ham hoagie. It is an Italian. Meat is never cooked properly no matter if it's plum or Monroeville. Alway under cooked. The quality of meats are surely not what they used to be. I'm so disappointed that today is definitely my last sub. I'm saddened at the way this iconic eatery has declined and it has been for many, many years. I guess I'm going to stick with Penn Station for now on. read more

So this is not a shot at Rudy's subs. The monroeville 22 location and swissvale locations are awesome some of the best out there. It's a shame this place has the name Rudy's! It's just not good. I have gave this place to many chances. The bread is bad the meat is not the same quality. Most recently I got a mushroom cheese steak, pretty sure it was a few steakems with no flavor on a piss poor hogie roll (think of some BS you can buy at any grocery store and take it down a notch). No mancini's bread no good steak just a shitty sub. I ate half of it and needed to doctor the second half up to eat it. read more

The great: The bread -- which I'm told was from Cellone's Bakery, was awesome -- light and airy, not too thick, so you don't get just a mouthful of bread when you take a bite. The good: The Italian sub, per hubby, was delicious, said the meat was flavorful. My steak and cheese was okay, but the meat was very "steak-um" tasting. The expected, but always a plus: Everyone was very friendly. The okay: The price for 1/2 a sub, fries, and a drink was $7.99, which felt like an okay deal to me for lunch. The bad: A 12" sub is $9+, which seems awfully expensive to me, especially if you want to add in a side or drink. We'll definitely be back, but hubby said he'd go for the $7.99 special instead of the 12" next time. read more

I'm surprised to read all the negative reviews as this is a really solid sandwich shop. It's a great lunch spot if you're in the mood for some good, quick eats and a full belly. While I would recommend the lunch special - half a sandwich, French fries, and a drink - Rudy's offers a variety of "submarines" that can be made just the way you like them. Whether your a simple meat and cheese person or into the specialty or Italian meats, they have it on the menu, along with all the fixins' you could possibly want. They even sell novelty sized sandwiches in the 3-foot and 6-foot variety should you want to entertain or just flat out pig out yourself. This is a worthy weekday stop and is certainly a place to consider for game day and tailgating. read more

The only reason I didn't rate it one star is because I've been before and gotten great food and great service. Every other time, though, has been during the week when the owner is there and his son is in the kitchen cooking. This is my first time going on the weekend, and it will also be my last time. We stood at the counter waiting to order for about five minutes while the lady behind the counter took a phone order. There were two people in the kitchen cooking. After ordering, we sat down to wait for our food. And we waited. And we waited. After 20 minutes of waiting for a cheeseburger and a 6" cheeseburger sub, I went back up to the counter to ask if it would be much longer. I was told it wouldn't only be about another minute (but I think they lost the order because I had to take my ticket back up to the counter and she pushed buttons on the register.....all before telling me it would only be another minute). So I sat down to wait some more. Ten minutes went by and after we watched people who had come in after us with a larger party get their order, I was done. I told them I wanted my money back; we'd go some place else. I was told the food was coming off the grill. Yeah, I was kind of told that once already. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I said I didn't care and wanted a refund. Over 30 mins for a hamburger more than exceeds my patience level, especially when the place isn't crowded. No one (besides the family that came in after us) was waiting for their order. I was refunded the money and left. I didn't see it because I had my back to her, but my granddaughter saw it - the woman behind the register was rolling her eyes at me and giving me a dirty look. Beware buying anything to go from this Rudy's location. After having been a satisfied dine in customer for the last 3 years, I just got ripped off with a take out order. I ordered a full-size fish sub and onion rings ($16 plus change). At time of order they confirmed it would include lettuce, tomato, Tarter sauce, and cheese. When I got home the sub was plain dry bread and fish. No veggies, no cheese, no dressing of any kind. That order was the last one ever from me. read more

As a loyal customer, I will tell you straight up....it depends on what you order. Some of the hoagies are just what they are, nothing special except the bun. The bun is always amazing. The capicola hoagie, warm, with everything.....is like heaven on a bun. The meat is a little lighter than it used to be, but the taste is still there! The fresh bun, fresh ingredients, and sub dressing makes it a one of a kind. The service is great. They will make the sandwich just how you want it. Overpriced GARBAGE! with all the sub places around, including Sheetz, it's amazing this place is still in business. Subs are small, overpriced and devoid of taste or anything that makes you happy or want to come back. What costs over $10 here is $6 at sheetz or even Subway....and they taste soo much better. Very disappointed. The steak and cheese didn't have tomato, lettuce and oinion; the added pepper and mushroom were hardly discernable and tasteless. The vegeterain sandwich should come with cheese instead of having to pay extra for cheese, which means they are charging as much for the "vegies" as they are for steaks and other meat on other subs. Got the feeling that I was given LESS service and not as good sandwiches because I was using a Groupon discount. The lady clerk needs to retake the people skills course. I remember the great subs I used to get in Braddock Hills and downtown Monroeville, but todays experience has soured me on eating there in the near future! read more
