I've lived in this city forever and always noticed how busy this place was, but somehow never stopped in. My sister and I finally went last night and I'm so glad we did. The vibe is super cozy, with different seating areas, booths and tables tucked around several fireplaces, plus a bar area. They bring out complimentary garlic bread when you sit down, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, and absolutely delicious. We each got the $16 personal pizza deal with a side salad and drink. The pizza is thin, wood fired, crispy, and flavorful, cut into six slices, about the size of a small at most other places. Definitely a great value. The salad had fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, we added cheese, and the ranch tasted homemade. We also ordered the homemade asiago cheese sticks, which were fantastic. Super crispy outside, creamy and cheesy inside with that sharp asiago flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, refilling drinks without us having to ask and offering the dessert menu. I ordered the peanut butter cream pie and the chocolate mousse pie. Both were excellent. Our total was around $70 for two people, but I definitely added some extras. We arrived just in time to be seated right away, and by the time we left the parking lot was filling up fast. They're clearly popular. They also offer Monday through Thursday specials, so it's worth checking those out. There's plenty of parking near the surrounding stores and restaurants. My first visit since Susan sold the business. This is a weak 3-star review. The Deluxe Lasagna recipe has changed a bit - specifically; the Italian sausage was not sufficiently sausage-y. And while it arrived very hot, there was maybe two tablespoons of fluid in the bottom of the dish. Still very good, but different. The garlic bread served with the lasagna was a miss. Only toasted on one side and insufficiently garlicky (is that a word?). I also ordered a side of the garlic bread. Properly toasted, but again, lacked sufficient garlic flavor. The salad was fresh, slightly chilled. Only one waitress working the dining room and she was busy. Two large groups and a handful of booths were occupied. Although we arrived after the first group, our food came out first. We finished and left ... and they were still waiting on their salads. read more

Picked up my standard large white pizza with ham and mushrooms. We've been buying this pizza for years. We now live in Portage two hours away from Flint but still look forward to our favorite pizza. Today it looked like Ruggero's has succumbed to "shrinkflation" as the large pizza is now the size of a medium pizza, still get twelve pieces, for the price of a large. This taste is also a little off and seems like less cheese. We decided that we will try it one more time and pick one up the next time I am in Flint and if the quality and size remain the same Ruggero's may be losing a long time customer and friend. read more

We were super excited to try what we heard was the best BBQ in town. We sat at a table at Vic's (the bar in the back of the restaurant). We sat there for five minutes deciding what to order only for a bartender to yell at us from behind the bar that they were closed to the public. After that extremely rude interaction, we went to the Ruggero's side of the restaurant where they ignored us for ten minutes while standing at the hostess podium.so we left. Ruggero's is a nice Italian-style family restaurant, but I was disappointed in this visit. Service was slow even though we arrived after the dinner rush. The Bocci in the Bolognese (is it really a Bolognese?) were lukewarm to cold, which really overshadowed the otherwise well prepared appetizers. I cannot recommend. read more

First time we've been there and the food was great! Unfortunately some ignorant couple made a big scene stating they've ate here 7 times and each time the parmesan cheese was rotten. The cheese nor food was rotten. It was fresh and delicious. Additionally, if they thought it was that bad why would they return 7 different times. I was rasised on Ruggeros as we lived on Chevrolet Avenue in the 1970s and it was our family dinner every Friday night. The food was incredible, anything you ordered was amazing and after they made the move to Flint township we still would order out from that location for many years. Sometime between 2012 and 2015 the sole remaining original owners daughter sold out to someone who changed many of the original recipes. The garlic toast that was to die for is no longer, they tried to say they couldn't find the bread that was used by the original owners? Crock of Shit! What happened is the new owners thought they would cut corners to make more profit and changed everything. I threw up after eating the pasta and pizza. I am trying to find the daughter of the original owners so I can get a few of the recipes and recreate some incredible food. I wouldn't eat there if you paid me, that's how bad the food is now. They have alienated a customer base that has been eating there for over 70 years! They should have changed the name if they were intending to be cheap,and change all the recipes. The service is also piss poor, I know of several people who couldn't believe that the recipes had all changed and they ordered a bunch of food thinking they were getting the original recipe, well the wait was over 2 hours for take out orders and every dish was unedible. They returned all the food and demanded their maney back. How anyone could take a Flint historic Restaurant like Ruggeros and ruin it's legacy in such a short period of time is beyond me. If the original owners are reading this they need to start another restaurant and bring back all the original recipes as they would make a fortune! The Hot Sub sandwiches, the Lasgana, Spaghetti, Garlic toast and Pizzas all have been changed or removed from the menu. I can't stress to anyone that might think about ordering from Ruggeros to don't waste your money. The food is of poor quality and the ingredients are nothing like the orignal recipes. I can't believe the new owners have been able to survive after changing everything, it's only a matter of time before they go under because the old school customer base is long gone and will never return. It's beyond sad that someone willingly wrecked a legendary menu on purpose all in the name of more profit. If the new ownership group reads this review you should be ashamed of yourself. Please remove the Ruggeros name from your business as it is NOTHING like the original and at this point you are deceiving the customer which will only get you called out by those who have eaten the orignal recipes. read more

A few weeks ago my daughter took us to Ruggeros. Half of our food came out and the rest never came. So we tried it again and an hour and a half after ordering we had our soup and salad but..... People who came in after us we getting there food but not us... I ordered spaghetti with sauce on the side, hubby ordered an appizer. Nothing to complicated. On Tueday July 14 2025, I went to pick up a take out order. I stood at the counter for sometime, several serves walked past ignoring me. I waited a bit longer thinking they might be busy. After a bit longer a waitress came in the area near me. I politely asked if anyone was working at the front. Her reply was, yes! She then walked into the kitchen told the kitchen staff, this lady wants to know if anyone is working? The kitchen crew burst into laughter. When she came back out I asked her what was so funny, I wasn't being rude why are you being rude? what is so funny about me asking for help? As I spoke to her a waiter came walking though obnoxiously, and loudly laughing. I knew he did that in response to my conversation wit the waitress. I asked to speak with the manager. It took several minutes for him to come out from the opposite side of the back than where his kitchen crew was. The waitress must have told him why I was upset because he automatically came out saying, his kitchen crew wasn't laughing at me. I told him I wasn't buying it. I knew they were laughing at me. He claimed he was back there with them when I know he came from the opposite direction. I explained, he should have listen to what I had to say before defending their actions. I explained about the waiter walking though obnoxiously laughing. The manager once again took his side stating, he said he was laughing at something on his phone. I explained, he didn't have a phone. He said he would check the camera's. As I am talking with the manager the original waitress walked behind him laughing. I told him, what she was doing and he ignored me. I asked him why would I make any of this up and why would he defend such rude behavior and not once apologize? I asked what kind of management would make them feel so comfortable to be so disrespectful and with him standing right there. I wasn't getting anywhere with him so I left. My husband was upset with the situation and called up there, a female answered the phone and he asked to speak with the manager. She rudely replied, I am with a customer, you will have to wait until I get one! Speaking with the manager, he still denied the kitchen staff was laughing at me even though the burst of laughter came just as she said I asked if anyone was working and he came from a completely different end of the back room, he couldn't have known what they were laughing about. He did admit they laughter at me the other 2 times and it was addressed. I highly doubt anything was said or done that will change the waitress and waiter's attitude. I believe it was the same waitress that was so rude that answered the phone when he called. Since the transfere of ownership there has been a number of bad experiences. I frequently went there but now that being rude and disrespectful is acceptable, I will not be returning. read more

Ruggero's catered my mother's 80th birthday party for 50+ people. The food was out of this world and the prices were very reasonable. People kept coming up to me asking where the food was from because they loved it so much. We all agreed it was the best lasagna we'd ever had. The staff was amazing to work with as well. Me and my wife, have been visiting Ruggero's for a while (Chevrolet Ave). The food has always been great. For me the sauce is the boss, at an Italian restaurant. And Ruggeros has always gotten that right. Order a marinara and you will understand what I mean. I have Never had a bad meal. And the staff has consistently been top notch. read more

First time here and really liked the bread they provided the table. I ordered the manicotti as I love pasta, but was not too impressed. It didn't have much flavor so I wasn't really wowed by it. The garlic bread that came with it was good a garlicky so that was a plus. The restaurant itself appeared a bit run down and not really taken care of. I really love Ruggeros and feel like it doesn't get enough love. First of all, they have great ranch. I love the "before your meal" focaccia bread and dipping it in ranch. So by the time my food comes, I'm already full bread & ranch. But it's so worth it. They are a bit pricey, and I think that's why they're not as busy as they could be. Location also isn't prime anymore either. But overall, they have great homemade food, & large portions. Ordered meatballs and cheese. Server said the wait was because they had burned them but were fixing it. By fixing it she meant they were taking off the burnt cheese and covering the burnt meatballs with fresh cheese. The cook should have been ashamed to send them out of the kitchen. Back in the day we would enjoy the pizza special at Ruggero's when it was at Windmill Place--anyone remember that? Then they moved to Waterstreet Pavilion. Still great pizza. They moved to Linden and Corunna and I followed them like a sheep. Still good. They moved farther down the road, and I hadn't eaten there in several years. Yesterday I was just craving their old pizza special so we went to their current location. Looks the same as always. Spouse ordered a sandwich and I told him Ruggero's serves these wonderful, hot cottage fries with their sandwiches. But first they brought buttery bread to our table that's been hammered with black pepper just as they always did. The deep dish pizza of olde is no more--at least it wasn't yesterday. I was served a greasy, flat looking pizza. The salad was great--crispy, cold, just the way I love salad. I've seen better pizza for sale at gas stations. The taste was spicy, peppery. Maybe they put pepper in the beverages too. Our server never checked on us and we had to track him down to get our bill. The round cottage fries of olde have been replaced by cold overfried "steak fries." Disappointing in so many ways. I understand they are under new ownership which might explain a lot. read more

My favorite place for years. Unfortunately, on today my salad was cold and old. And, my Vegetarian Lasagna had a piece of MEAT in it. The manager did offer to make me another one. The waiter expressed the fact that the mushrooms and beef were side by side and that a salad is "just a salad". I brought the replacement home and we still tipped, but I'll see if one of my carnivore family members want it. We came here because of a Groupon... Let's just say that if their plan by offering a Groupon is to get you hooked so you come back, this was the most successful Groupon I've ever bought... We will definitely be coming back despite the fact that it is over an hour drive to get here.... They had me at the bread.... Best bread I've run across in a restaurant including Lucky's... Well, I finally did try the pizza (on May 1, 2015) at long last. It was very good, not a typical "veggie" pizza- I mean, it was loaded with veggies, all fresh with a nice, rich sauce and lots of cheese. It had a good crust, not too greasy or dry. I hate pizza crusts that are dripping in oil and butter or taste so dry and feel like they've been tossed around a few times too many! That's the good, so now for the not so good It's still a four star establishment in my book based primarily on the food, however, the service was slower than anything I've experienced at Ruggero's before. It took only minutes to get seated, but about 30 minutes to get drinks. Bread and drink refills came at a snail's pace and we had filled up on bread by the time the pizza arrived at least an hour later. No one was busing tables, either. The dining room looked like the aftermath of a frat party by the time we left. Hopefully, it was a one-time thing. Nonetheless, it's still a pretty good local Italian eatery, if only based on the food quality and price. read more

I placed a order for a large antipasto salad, it looked delicious. I got a plate full, added my dressing, stuck my fork in it, getting ready to take a bite, but a a hair in my food stopped me in my tracks. Gross ! Needless to say I was mad and hungry, but no way could I eat that salad. Called Ruggero's, told them about it. I asked if they wear hair nets, the woman said they wear hats and the men who prepares the food is bald. I said well, someone who handled my salad had hair somewhere on their bodies. They wanted to give me credit, but I didn't want to order anything else from them. Ordered through Door Dash, who refunded me my money. The whole salad ended up in the trash. What a waste of food ! In the midst of COVID-19, we got two pizzas at curbside pickup. Both were outstanding (got both with white sauce Instead of tomato sauce). We live in Flushing and only ever had their pizza when dining inside. We always got our pizza from Sorrentos, but with the new owners not serving any pork products, we had to give up on it (an Italian restaurant not serving pork?! - c'mon!) Ruggero's is our new go-to for pizza. Delish! read more
