WOW is all I can say! The fresh olive oil started out meal with a BANG! The aroma and sweetness was an incredible way to prepare our palate. I ordered the Meluzzo (cod) and my husband ordered the lasagna on Emily's recommendation. Both were delicious and very filling after the wonderful baked bread. AVOID THE CHICKEN MARSALA My wife and I shared an Italian kind of salad, then I had the spaghetti which I almost always have at Italian restaurant which makes my wife roll her eyes as she asks me why I do that when I know her spaghetti, which she makes frequently, is better than most restaurant's. This is true but I love spaghetti. This spaghetti was fine as was the salad, though my wife thought the salad dressing was a bit too sweet and she didn't think it was as good as I did. She also didn't care for her dinner which was chicken Marsala. She wanted mashed potatoes with it but they apparently don't serve them anymore, so she opted for a side of roasted potatoes, which simply don't go with chicken Marsala to begin with and especially with this one as the sauce was so sweet it was like eating a dessert. She doesn't generally like sweet food, especially when it's supposed to be savory! She said she'd never had Chicken Marsala that tasted like that and really could eat it. She should have sent it back but doesn't like to complain about the food we are served. If it's not good we just simply won't go back. She probably should have given them a chance to make it right as then I may not be leaving this bad review. Anyway, she wanted me to make sure to not recommend the Marsala. We stopped in dinner on a Thursday evening at about 5:30 to a sparsely populated restaurant. The hostess made a crack about having the choice of seating and we responded that it could get better as it was still early. Our server stopped by our table with water and greeted us in a friendly manner which started our experience well. She told us the dinner and drink specials. That was the best part of our visit. She gave us a few minutes to look over the menu while she got our drinks. We decided on the pan seared Ahi tuna as an appetizer. Asked about the market price on the seafood special of trout. We both went with the blackened Mahi Mahi Reuben sandwich as neither of us were super hungry. Sides offered were the typical fries, tots or slaw and house salad. We went with the house salads. The time for the appetizer was served was what you'd expect. Not too long of a wait which was good. The Ahi tuna was overcooked and dry. Not what I'd consider "pan seared". Next, our sandwiches were served. They were COLD. The bread was as room temperature and the fish was barely warm, which means it wasn't picked up timely by our server, or the bread was toasted much too soon and sat too long. Either way, we flagged down our server and she took it back to the kitchen. Apparently, the sandwiches were remade, which was good... the wait time was fairly long however for them to be served. This time, the sandwiches were a good temp, but the slaw wasn't drained enough and the bread on the bottom fell apart when you picked up the sandwich. I ate half of mine with a fork as the bread was soggy. I asked for a container to take the other half home. Forgot to mention that the house salads were very good. Nice portion and dressing was on the side. Next was the bill. We both had a couple of beers. No sticker shock there.. as expected. However, our sandwiches and sides, in this case house salads, were $22 each. We weren't told that there was an up charge for house salads. We could have looked at the menu ourselves, except our server took the menus from us when listing off our choices. Lesson learned. Our nearly $100 meal was not worth it. I've had better food many times and will not return here in the near future. Our first clue was the nearly empty restaurant at the beginning of our visit. It can't just be us. read more

Wife and I came in for a 6pm reservation. You're greeted by a sign asking you not stay for more than two hours. That's a bit off putting to me. I guess the customer's money has a time limit. Good to know. Check in with hostess and are told we wouldn't be seated for a bit. The kitchen needed a break and to get caught up. Never heard that one before. Should've known by then it wasn't going to be a good experience. Seated relatively quickly however. Our server (who was pretty great overall) took our drink order. She then reiterated we couldn't order for a little while yet. Same kitchen excuse. I told her that the operational issues with the restaurant weren't my problem, but theirs. I questioned why the need to stress that to us. My knock on the server was her excuses for this being it's a scratch kitchen and they make nearly everything. Again, not my problem and an excuse I've never heard before. To the menu. 6 pm on a Saturday seems to be a lousy time to be out of four menu items. The crab bisque my wife ordered. Out. No spring rolls, no stuffed pork chop and no seared ahi tuna. So I asked if there was enough tuna for the poke bowl. She said there was. Told my wife we'd better order it so we could have it. I ordered the beef bison and bacon meatloaf. It was decent and a generous portion. The stout gravy seemed to lack some body but was good. Wow, this place is fantastic! It's been on our list for awhile and we stopped in on a recent Saturday afternoon. All the COVID-19 precautions were in place and they were checking temps at the door. We opted to sit at the bar and had the space to ourselves most of the visit. Once others arrived, social distancing guidelines were observed. We split a flight to try a few beers and were impressed - great beers with a variety of options. We ordered the PB&J tots to start and they were the crispiest tots we've ever had! Now if they could just use some of the spicy jam on the burger, it would take the tots over the top! The mahi Reuben was a fun play on a traditional sandwich and my husband loved his burger. We loved it! This was our first time at Ruhe 152. We met friends there. I had a flight of beers to start out and really liked them all. Especially the stouts. Very contemporary atmosphere, which is surprising AND refreshing to see in Nappanee! Went with a large group and had great service. Ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees. Most had very good meals, but some lacked the flavor and pizazz that the menu boasted. Appetizers were amazing. Burgers were great! Shrimp and grits fell flat as did a few of the specials. Will order apps and burgers next time. Now for the beer... impressive beer list AND impressive beer! Our large group pretty much consumed most of the beers from their list and most all were on point! Stopped back again in August 4, 2019..... this time we spotted the sushi menu. Unusual for a small town of Nappanee..... but it works !! Very well. We ordered the Tempura Deviled Eggs appetizer again... this time with extra jalapeños on top. The Sriracha sauce on the side makes for a nice dipping sauce. Very tasty. We also ordered the sushi roll. It was a pleasant presentation with the sauces drizzled over it. It was fresh and a nice portion. Enough to share when ordered along with an appetizer..... Definitely a must stop when traveling through (or staying) in Napannee. read more

Came for a late lunch when it was not busy. There is adequate parking along the side of the restaurant. Walked in and we were immediately seated. Both front and back of the house service was extremely slow for it not being very busy at all. Atmosphere was unique, clean, and modern. We ordered the burnt brussels for an appetizer. The top half of the bowl was actually pretty good. The bottom half of the bowl was sitting in some kind of brothy sauce. While flavorful, the umami coming through was way too strong. It was over salted almost to the point of being inedible. Orchard salad with added chicken was not bad. The vinaigrette was was too sweet and overpowering. The sweet components also included in the salad made it overall such a sweet salad. It needed some acid and something to balance the sweetness. The Panther Smash was a very average burger. Nothing special at all. Was under seasoned and overcooked. Toppings lacked flavor as well. Overall, I would like to come back and give it another try. Perhaps it was just an off day. My market burger was about half the size as my buddies Southwest burger although it was very tasty. Just wasn't ready to be greeted with a smallish burger. Tasted great and fries were in point. My wife and I visited Ruhe 152 for the first time very tonight...and the last! My wife had the pork chop and said it was very tasty. The potato and green beans were just average. I was charged $38 for a 14 oz steak. Of which, 7oz was fat. I believe it was the worst restaurant steak I was ever served. I added some mushrooms to the steak and they had a very poor taste to them as if they were old. My potato was under-cooked and I was given six green beans...a very underwhelming meal! The service was excellent as Nikki took care of us, and was apologetic even though she had nothing to do with the food prep. read more

My favorite sushi roll was the OMG (although I wouldn't categorize sushi as the strongest part of this menu). Loved the tots with tipsy sauce for appetizer. The PB cheesecake was Ah-mazing. Got passion fruit home brewed tea...so good! We got in right away and our server was really good. Overall I would like to give this place 4.5 stars (I'm selfish with 5 star ratings). Continuing with my quarantine catch up... Ruhe152 has become our favorite new restaurant in Michiana. The menu is inventive and diverse with something for everyone from burgers to sushi. On our last visit in February, we enjoyed the PB&J tarts and deviled eggs for appetizers. Get them both, they're delicious. Make it your meal if you want. You will not be disappointed. And my family is the sharing kind of family so I sampled a bit of everything including shrimp and grits, tuna tartare, shrimp bao buns and the Ruhe burger. I would not have been disappointed had I ordered any of these entrées. However, I had the impossible burger because I was craving a burger and not the cholesterol. It was the best version I have had. We also shared a sushi roll. I think I will have to work my way through the entire menu here because it all sounds and looks great. read more

I napped past the breweries in South Bend and woke up right past the Nappanee exit! But, being a sweet husband, he turned around! And I'm so glad he did! This brewery was great! The decor was beautiful! We ate and drank at the bar. We don't steer far from the Pale Ales/IPA menu and theirs were good. We bought a growler of Monophonic Polyphony. It was good! Now for the food!! Oh my! We had the Tempura Deviled Eggs!!! They were incredible!! And we also had the avocado egg rolls, which were good too! Would recommend this place any day! To be fair, in the town of Nappanee, this is by far the best option for food not served in a sack. There is actually some ingenuity to be found on the menu with the delightful and unexpectedly delicious PB&J tater tots. The atmosphere is definitely upscale here, and the bar is quite well stocked, with menu prices that will make your night out affordable. The issue here is that everything else beyond the small bits of delight is decidedly average. The burgers could easily be the same fare as served at any chain restaurant, and the steak, while decent, isn't a standout (not to mention the cold and soggy asparagus that was served on the plate with the steak). Dessert options are sparse, but if you are in the mood for the current month's theme, then you'll find multiple, similar options available. When south of US 6 in Indiana, you can do far worse than Ruhe 152... but unless you live in Nappanee, you can drive a few more miles north and find better options. read more

Wow! Mint in my beer (Crockett mojito lager)? Well, it works. Unfortunately they were out of the light and Mexican lagers. But that provided the opportunity to try the Crockett which was refreshing. And it paired well with the PB&J tots (appetizer). The tots! Topped with bacon and nestled in a sweet medley of peanut butter and homemade jam. Hubby ordered the tempura deviled eggs and wings. He didn't say much about the wings but loved the eggs. They were lightly battered and plated with jalapeños and bacon. I had the burger with fries. The burger is 1/2 lb before cooking. It didn't seem that big which was fine . Tasty char on the burger and a light pretzel bun. I was expecting more from the fries--their twist on fries (the owners are foodies after all). And I'm not talking about frying them in duck fat. I want to give a shout out to our server, Bailey. She's very personable, attentive and knowledgeable. She clearly knew the food and beer menu. It's clear that the owners put a lot of thought into everything, from the food to the beer to the place itself. As my husband said, this was the best dinner we've had on a long time. Absolutely Fantastic! A great find in Nappanee, IN. Everything about this place is amazing! Atmosphere, Beer, Food and People!!!! We had an enjoyable evening trying new beers and delicious food If you live within a 45 minute drive it's 100% worth it! Maybe even an hour to an hour and half. I mean there really isn't a whole lot of Fantastic options in the surrounding areas. We tried several beers in flights all worth drinking again. The Tipsy Tots appetizer was awesome!!! As for the meals, we tried the Filet, Mac N Cheese, BBQ Flatbread, and chicken sandwich and ALL were delicious! Homemade salad dressings are great and worth trying with your salad. Please visit! First time at this gem in Nappanee! We were struck by the architecture and ambiance. They had live music, which was... very loud for the space, but the musicians were fantastic. We were grateful our table upstairs. We arrived prior to our reservation so we grabbed a couple seats in the small bar area. The Bonita Fresas Margarita was great, and my husband loved the beer selections. We ordered the goat cheese appetizer, yellowtail sushi roll, cider pork chop and ribeye, and funnel cake fries. Our server was knowledgeable. The wontons with the goat cheese appetizer were very greasy, but flavors were great. We figured their fryer was running at a lower temp than normal because they were so busy. Our salads came at the same time as our entrees for some reason. The ribeye was great, potatoes tasted good. Broccolini on both our plates was underdone, the bottom of the stem was really woody/inedible. The tops tasted delish. The cider chop... I wanted to LOVE it. The flavor was there. The jack and coke bacon jam was amazing. But my chop was overcooked, not a drop of juice anywhere. When the bacon jam ran out, I couldn't eat any more of the chop. Our sushi never arrived. We had to tell our server we never got it, and then she said they were behind on sushi. We never did get it "because there was a problem with the rice." Sadly, two other tables upstairs got sushi, so I'm not sure that was the issue... We ordered the funnel cake fries for dessert and that was a mistake. They tasted like nothing but grease. Again, maybe the fryer temperature was the issue, but they were no longer busy (we were basically the only ones left). Overall, the flavors were there, the thought process for the food was there, but execution was just not there. We'd like to go back for a small plates meal, on a night that isn't so busy to give it another chance. read more
