This is one of those places I've driven by time and time again, but nothing about the outside has ever drawn me in. But after I come across their yelp, I stopped in and was not let down one bit! We ordered off their March specials. We had the Thai shrimp paste fried rice with slow cooked sweet pork, which was interesting that it came not mixed together, but we mixed it and it was amazing! We also had the Thai curry with tender pork belly. I would've preferred crispy pork belly, but that curry was so good! We also had their seasonal salad, which was great! For dinner, we ended with the sticky rice with mango which we loved. My wife went with the nonalcoholic lychee drink, and I went with their bourbon special! We were pleasantly surprised with this place and will definitely be coming back because there are so many dishes on their menu that sound and look amazing! Servers were kind, music was quiet and fun. Rudikew was underwhelming and I'm confused by their current high rating. No one greeted us when we walked in and we stood around for a bit until someone told us to take a seat wherever. The menu was sticky and hadn't been wiped down. The Thai iced coffee was fine, but the steamed tofu pad Thai was lackluster and lifeless. I wouldn't recommend Rudikew. What a cute and quirky Thai spot! The interior has a lot of personality with the pink decor and various ornaments hanging from the ceiling. We got a Soft Shell Crab Pad Thai and Spicy Eggplant. We got delivery, so I can't talk about the ambience or the service, but I can sure talk about the food and I thought it was really bad. The Massaman curry was like soup made of salt with almost no flavor, the Pad Thai was presentable but not great and we got a veggie dish that was essentially just steamed vegetables with no flavor at all. I thought it was a terrible waste of money. I hate giving bad reviews, because I like to believe everybody's doing their best, but I just can't help it; I felt pretty ripped off. read more

A cute place tucked on Belmont. The decor is adorable - very pink and green haha. The staff taking my order was very patient and understanding, and I really appreciated that. We opted for the soft shell crab pad thai and the khao soi. Spice levels are higher than you'd expect, so I'd be careful! I had a good time with these two dishes. I was a bit afraid seeing that previous reviews mention the dishes being heavy on the sugar, but I'm glad to say, it wasn't that sweet. So what can I saw about Rukdiew Cafe other then GO NOW! I found them on Uber Eats while on a work trip in Portland. I decided to go to the restaurant instead of ordering I'm and it was 100% worth it! As soon as we walked in the ambiance was great! The restaurant itself was beautiful. Then our server came over and gave us some great suggestions, all which were absolutely amazing. But the food..... oh my goodness. Everything was absolutely delicious. There were so many options and I must have ordered at least 4 different dishes. I think this place being named a "cafe" is confusing (maybe why I was the only person there on a Saturday afternoon). As I explained to the one woman working there, Americans think of cafes as places for breakfast and lunch where one finds hot and cold beverages, pastries (both sweet and savory), sandwiches .... . The menu is fairly long (which always makes me suspicious that the cook doesn't have time focus on each item) and all Thai food. I had yellow curry and thought it was fairly bland in comparison with Portland's other well know east side Thai restaurants. The decor was tolerable. The prices were less than similar restaurants in the area. If you're hungry, in the neighborhood and want to save money it will do just fine. I kept seeing cars parked outside of this bright green restaurant so you know I had to check them out. On a busy street their limited parking lots are great otherwise might get a little dicey to find some parking - although possible! When you walk in you'll be greeted by vibrant pink and green colors with their interior decor. It's a much smaller space than I expected but they do well with seating. I would recommend the bar or tables near the front since the tables in the back by the bathrooms tend to echo at least when we sat their initially. No issue getting a walk in seat for two and even then the place had groups coming in and out both for dine in and pickup which I take as a good sign. Place could do some cleaning in some areas around the tables if you're a bit of a clean freak but wasn't too bad. They have a pretty extensive menu and a bit of Asian fusion but mainly Thai focused. Based on fellow Yelpers I knew I had to try the trout fried rice (like when do you ever see that!?) and the pork belly pad thai (actual huge chunks of fried pork). It'll range you $14+ which is pretty on point with entrees at other places so nothing too shocking. When food arrived I was shocked to see a whole trout just on the bed of the fried rice! What a presentation and the fish had a wonderful coating and flavor. It was a clear favorite coming in to try this place and I can see why. I also really enjoyed the pad thai with the pork belly as it was huge chunk vs. small pieces that you would normally find as the protein in the pad thai. It has a great crisp on the edges and chew. I was a little worried at first since it was saucier than I usually like my pad thai but as leftovers it held well and the noodles ended up absorbing a lot of the excess sauce. You can easily eat this in one go and probably should to enjoy the fried freshness. The cucumbers and sides helped balance the meal and would get both entrees again. read more

Despite my 2 star review, I would come back here because the decor is cute, prices are reasonable and service is good. And I've eaten here more than once. With that said, to be brutally honest, this is the worst Thai food I've ever had. Drinks are good. I always like the mango sticky rice - even though theirs are too sweet sometimes. This restaurant is adorable! Everything from the gallery art on the wall to the lighting in the booths to the ornaments floating from the ceiling is so playful. We ordered the spicy eggplant stir fry with tofu, papaya salad, and tofu salad rolls. Each were absolutely delicious, and the portions are generous. A docked one star due to the slightly slower service. The food came-out quickly, and the staff couldn't have been more courteous. However, after sitting for 20ish minutes after we finished, I just approached the staff for the bill. Try it! You won't regret it. read more

My new favorite Thai restaurant! I've been here twice now and I'm already looking forward to the next time. The interior is currently all decked out for the holidays! Super festive although the ornaments are hung a little too low -- I'm short and had to duck. We arrived around 8pm on a Friday to a packed restaurant! Thankfully we did not have to wait long to get seated. The tables are a little bit too close for comfort, my fork was knocked down as the person at the table next to us was trying to leave. Last time we arrived around 1:30pm on a Friday to an empty restaurant so we did not experience that issue. There were multiple cocktails that appealed to me, which made it hard to choose. I ended up ordering the pomegranate moscow mule. Not bad but it needed more pomegranate flavor as the ginger beer dominated in taste. For the non-alcoholic drinks, I've had the cherry blossom and thai iced tea -- if it wasn't for the cocktail, I would've gotten one of these again! Just like the cocktails, there were many dishes on the menu that sounded good. So far I've had the crab rangoon, hot wings, jungle fried rice, soft-shell crab pad thai, trout fried rice, and trout pad thai. The crab rangoon had a slight curry taste that I did not really like but it is something different from the others. We've had the hot wings twice and it was even better the second time. The jungle fried rice was packed with flavor. The trout pad thai was amazing! very similar to that of Thai Peacock's. I would order these two again over the soft-shell crab pad thai and trout fried rice. The dessert is equally as intriguing as the rest of the menu. Top notch decor and atmosphere! This place is so cute, from the festive decor down to the small plates I loved the vibe in here. As for the food, my husband and I shared a few things. We got the crab Rangoon, Kana Moo Krob, and yellow curry. The Kana Moo Krob was my favorite, the crispy pork belly was perfectly cooked and this was so flavorful. The crab Rangoon was delicious, but I'm definitely eager to come back and try the other appetizers. I liked the yellow curry, I think it could have used a bit more spice but my husband loved it. This used to be another Thai restaurant called Kala noodle & grill, and it seems like maybe some of the recipes transferred over with the change in ownership. We came in on a Tuesday for lunch, and ordered way too much for just three people. We got the trout pad thai, larb, boat noodle (beef), crab rangoons (they add yellow curry to it), pumpkin curry, kai look koey (directlu translated as son in law eggs lol), and stir fried spicy eggplant! The main highlight i would say was the trout in the pad thai. The breading was really nice and crispy, and the meat was pretty flakey and moist. As you can see from the photos, the portion was very generous and reasonably priced. The pumpkin curry could have used a bit more flavor to add more of a kick. We took a good amount home, and used our Yelp coupon for 5 dollars off! (They only allow one per table). I'm glad that I can still get my curry rangoons and they did not become extinct with Kala closing their doors. Stopped by for lunch with my cousins and we had a feast! Deciding on what to order was quite a challenge - there were several dishes on their menu that we wanted to try. We ended up ordering the crab rangoons, spicy eggplant, trout pad Thai, pumpkin curry, son in law eggs, pork larb, and boat noodles to share between the 3 of us. The flavors of the boat noodles were spot on. Reminded us of the ones we would get from the street vendors in Bangkok. The crab rangoons were unique with the hint of yellow curry powder they added to the cream cheese filling. I really enjoyed the trout pad Thai as well. They did not skimp out on the fish, and it was perfectly crispy. We were also excited to see kai loog keoy on the specials because it's not often you see it being served at other Thai restaurants. The sauce is a good balance of sweet and tangy. Food here is very reasonable priced ended up being less than $100 and we had plenty leftovers to take home. OMG. This place is adorable and delicious. I was looking for a spot close to my Airbnb and settled on thai. No one else was in the restaurant and I had the opportunity to chat with the lady working at the front and she said they'd only been open a few weeks. So if you live in Portland, make sure you check them out! I had pad kro crow with ground chicken and the flavors were so good - that basil pairs so well with the sauce and spices. I ate the entire dish, no leftovers to take back with me. They told me they make it exactly like they do in Thailand and the dishes are all very authentic. read more

We did find the food to be good but not necessarily great. We tried the crab Rangoon, which have quite a bit of curry powder in them. A disappointment, given the hype. The ambiance is set up to be very "instagrammable" - cute wallpaper and pictures, unique hanging decor, neon light signs, colorful plates, nice plating of dishes. The food was pretty mediocre though. I got the crab pad Thai, which looked great but was not the perfect balance of salty-funky-savory-tart-sweet like a great pad thai ought to be...it just tasted like straight sugar with scrambled eggs and rice noodles. The fried crab looked impressive but needed salt or seasoning of some kind - it just tasted like bland fry oil. Ultimately I needed to commandeer my daughter's potsticker dipping sauce to mix into this, it really needed some salt or something for balance. Again, this place wins on style but the food won't impress if you favor more authentic, complexly flavored Thai dishes. Juices were fine, poured right from a can. One other note - there is a check in coupon for $5 off a meal of $20 or more, but not all servers seem aware of it. I showed our server when we ordered, and he told me it was just for online orders through Yelp (not true, it only shows up when you check in from the restaurant location, and other Yelpers successfully use it for dine-in). When the check came, I asked again pointing out those details. He then asked to take a photo of the coupon (presumably to text his manager for approval) and then had us wait for a while to hear back before ultimately agreeing to honor it. It's really a small thing but it's worth knowing that you might have to press to have the advertised check in offer honored here. Just go sit at the bar. Avoid the line to be seated in a booth. Constant line of patrons coming and waiting. Super ass busy. So , everything on the menu looks good. It's hard to decide , so I went with "Mee Grob Rad Nah". Crispy egg noodles over gravy with pork and broccoli . Huge serving . Just look at my pic. Easy to meet new friends , there. Great cocktail selection. Absolute fun place to be. Oh , when hitting the pisser, watch out for hanging Christmas ornaments on your way there . Tough for tall people.
