This is a bar/view only review of Rumba, but I am eagerly looking forward to exploring the menu on a future visit. Our party of four arrived for a midsummer Saturday evening dinner at Cowfish, and were unsurprised by the cited 1.5-hour wait. We had, in fact, counted on it as it allowed us to hop on the "Rum Barge" for a jaunt across the water to enjoy a cocktail at Rumba. As an aside, I am hard-pressed to think of a better teenage summer job than piloting a pontoon boat playing Grateful Dead music across a glassy bay and receiving tips for doing so. The young man was charming. Upon disembarking from our vessel, we made our way up the stairs, across the deck and into the lively bar/restaurant space. A round of refreshing white wines and whimsical (yet powerful) fruity beverages was procured for a very reasonable cost. Service was quick and friendly in spite of the bar being 2-3 people deep. We opted to wander outside and soak in the setting sun with our beverages. They are understandably strict about not allowing people to linger annoyingly close to the tables where people are sitting to enjoy their dinners. However, it was not a problem at all for us to take our beverages down to the dock where they even had some chairs set up for relaxing and general water watching. As we were finishing our drinks the Rum Barge pulled back into port, and we all hopped back on for a scenic return to Cowfish. read more

Hands down one of the best restaurants on the island. I've heard about this place many of times but never wanted to take the ride east to try it out. I'm so glad I finally took the ride out to see what all the talk was about. Everything I had from the mango mojito to the duck empanadas to the rib eye was delicious. I even ordered the Jamaican wings which were bomb! The ice cream sundae was killer and I mean KILLLER! I can't wait to go back and try the Dominican ribs. But not only is the food good but the location is perfect. It sits right on the bay so in the summer I know this is the place to be and enjoy. I'll be back VERY SOON!! read more

We came by because of the good reviews and unfortunately were a bit disappointed. We were a party of four and ordered the Dominican ribs as a starter. They were falling of the bones but only 4 pieces. So my daughter and i we didn't try one because the men would have two each. As main dishes we had: the blackened Mahi which was perfectly cook, three carnitas tacos and two smothered pulled-rib taco - don't forget to order sides. The carnitas tacos were boring: only a spoon of guacamole and a little sourcreme: no tomatoes, no lettuce, no caribbean spices - anything... The pulled rib tacos tasted porkish and like a convenient product - they were greasy and no tasteable spices but a lot of fried onions on top. The three cocktails we had were great: two virgin colada and one with alcohol. My husband had two IPA's which where served without a glas - only by can & bottle. We paid 130$ and i guess it's to much for the quality you get. The service was fast and attentive- especially the valet parking guy was perfect. The view / location is perfect but the next time i would spend my money somewhere else. read more

Fantastic location, view, atmosphere and festive. Valet car parked, took free ferry shuttle to Cowfish sister restaurant for apps while waiting for our table. The entire experience was an adventure. Apps, service and drinks were solid. Ramba called us when the table was ready - ferried back and our host greeted us on the dock to seat us at the table. Kids meals were high quality and priced right. Recommend duck empanadas, fish tacos and Caribbean wings. Can't say enough about the evening, the food, the service and live band. Everyone went out of their way to make a lovely evening experience. Bring your kids, date or wife. The restaurant owners know what they are doing. read more

First time here. I really enjoyed the rum sangria compared to the rum punch that everyone raves about here on yelp! I couldn't believe how fast I was drinking it! I enjoyed the atmosphere, food was delicious, service was great!-very polite and attentive. I also enjoyed that the crowd was mid-20's+. Although I had only the tacos, but they were so full of flavor, simple yet delicious! I enjoyed the steak tacos, more than the pulled pork though. Delicious! Flavorful! It was Taco Thursday 3 for $12. Two would have been plenty. The Fish Taco was my favorite, then the Smothered Pulled Rib and Rastaman's. Each one had its own unique flavor. Service - very prompt and polite. Noticed staff members hustling and bustling in the midst of the craziness. Definitely impressed by their strong work ethic! We interacted with the host in person and over the phone and she was very pleasant, polite, and timely. The bartenders were responsive and worked well together. Food - had the homemade guac and chips - they were solid, 7/10; had the duck empanadas - they were tasty and unique, 8/10; had the special taco of the day - (buffalo soldier tacos?) - delicious - 9/10 for preparation, flavor, and uniqueness!; had the crab cake - 10/10, just do it!; had the seared scallop salad - honestly, would have enjoyed the 4 large seared scallops on a dish with a nearby glaze and called it a day - the salad was lacking avocado and papaya 9/10 for the seared scallops, 3/10 for the accompanying salad...key lime pie was delicious, 10/10. Had the Rum Punch - 10/10 and top shelf margarita 10/10. Parking was available alongside the restaurant (valet), as well as a bit down the road they use some space at the Marina. Its about 500 feet passed the restaurant Cowfish and there is a small sign that denotes the parking - the Rumbus comes every 5 minutes and was a cool experience. Walked back to the car around 945pm and it was pleasantly dark and a nice way to walk off the meals. Only complaint was that for a restaurant that can host as many folks as it can - they only have 1 stall for the ladies and there is a line. This line averaged about 6 minutes (the wifey counted) and can be counter productive for the establishment as this is time that a patron isn't at the table and slows turning down tables for the waitstaff. Took my wife & 2 kids (14 & 12) to this place for dinner yesterday around 4:30 after a long day at the beach. We liked the rustic ambiance with soft reggae music in the background. The place is small but cozy. Seating was immediately available inside but we wanted to sit outdoors so the wait was 15-20 min. Well 40 minutes later we were seated. During that time though the hostess served us tortilla chips & water without us asking. That was thoughtful & made the wait bearable. After we were seated we ordered crab cakes, Dominican ribs, skirt steak & a cheese burger...all of it was amazingly delicious! Would definitely return with my family. read more

A friend's of our friend took us here. Great place to hang out and eat and enjoy sunset at the same time. I like their tacos.. so yummy! we also ordered some other dishes from the menu they all came out pretty good. But not the drinks :( some of us ordered mojito (in many different flavors) they all turned up to be too blend and sweet. So we asked the waiter to put more alcohol, they decided to remake all of them. Great! when the second drinks came, sigh! the same thing, just not as sweet but definitely need more alcohol. I'm not being sarcastic or exaggerating, I asked some people to try all the mojito we ordered at our table, they all agreed that it was blend and too sweet. For starters, if you go here and don't get the Sangria - you made a huge mistake. They make Sangria the best way possible...with rum in it. It is quite small, so the wait time can get quite long. The food is good island food and is not too overly priced. They absolutely crush the pulled pork tacos! Since the wait can get long - I suggest putting your name in with the hostess, picking up a pitcher and going down to the dock to relax with some friends while you wait. read more

Hubby and I came here during our weekend in the Hamptons due to the great reviews on Yelp. Sadly, I feel like Yelp led us wrong this time. The restaurant is noted as "Island inspired" restaurant.... last I checked Mexico was NOT an island. Most of the items we ordered was missing the Caribbean flair we were hoping to taste. There is valet parking here; i guess 'cause the parking lot is laid out awkwardly? We came on Monday night around 6pm and although it was busy, we were able to get a seat fairly quickly. The service left something to be desired though. It took them literally 20 minutes to get us a high chair, another 20 minutes for our server to come and when I asked for a smaller fork or a disposable fork, the server said "i'll see what I can do" and never returned. Disappointing. We ordered the following: Duck Empanadas Grilled Oysters Fish Tacos Jammin' Chicken for the toddler The empanadas and oysters were waaaay salty. I'm not sure if this was intentional so that you'd buy more drinks/beer? But the food here was salty to the point where we had to gulp water each time we had a bite. Yes, the fish taco was great, but then again, how could you go wrong with fresh fish in the area? At $5/each, it's definitely not easy on the wallet. The chicken fingers were bland, but that would've been okay for a toddler. The bill came out to around $60+. Quite pricey for the amount and quality of food we ordered. read more

Key Lime Martinis!! So yummy! The seared tuna appetizer is a huge winner here. I don't like ribs (because I'm crazy, but I know that everyone else does) - and apparently these are to die for. Every appetizer was awesome, but do yourself a favor, feel healthy and order the grilled artichoke. That way you can order your rum punch and feel like you did something right. As for the low reviews, I suggest you read them. One of them is clearly a snob that I am happy won't be at the table next to me. The others I can honestly say I've had multiple experiences now that are much better. And I highly recommend the food. But the takeaway here: Key Lime Martini! So good. read more

This place is absolutely great. Even open on Mondays in the dead of winter. We have dined here twice in the offseason and the food was amazing both times. The second time we went we ordered two of every taco. There were 5 of us, while we did order appetizers we ended up with left overs. Still great tacos for lunch the next day. Luckily a bunch of restaraunts were closed on Tuesday and it forced us to check out this place. It was the end of our trip in Montauk and we are glad we ended it here. Relaxing atmosphere, casual but I wouldn't come in dressed like I just came from the beach either...First off the Duck empanada's were awesome... My wife had two Pina Colada's, I know thats a pre-game for most but for her on a weekday...its a miracle , so that goes to show how good the drinks are. Had a mojito and margarita myself, both perfect. The fish taco's, crab cake, and pulled pork taco's are some of the best I ever had. Had a skirt steak taco which was ok in comparison to the other stuff, and a side of plantains that were as authentic as a Dominican Grandma can make. The Ribeye steak had no ,, rub or ginger flavor just sweet sauce. Jerk chicken was not spicy hot enough and needed more Jamaican spice. The food. The drinks. The view. I loved it here, and so did my boyfriend. The service was great (aside from one dark haired hostess who promptly rolled her eyes at me while trying to navigate the busy waiting area, guess I didn't get out of her way fast enough). We ordered drinks and an appetizer at the bar and the bartenders were fun and very nice. Our waitress was very sweet and kind, and the hostess got us a table even faster than we thought one would be available. Make reservations, because it gets crowded, and for good reason. The mojito and the sangria are both very good, but their rumba punch was incredible. The duck empanadas are to die for, and the Dominican ribs are also great. In addition we had the crab cake salad with mango and papaya which was light, flavorful and tasty (next time I'll get it without red onion, just not a fan of raw onions!). For our entree we split the salmon with coconut risotto and fried plantains. I didn't think I would like the coconut risotto but it was so creamy and unique and I ended up loving it. The perfect addition to the salmon. The plantains were also great! Our food came out fast and we had a wonderful view of the water from our window seat. Their parking lot was full but they have an overflow lot with a little shuttle/party bus that takes you to the restaurant and pack. So convenient! As for the crowd, it was a mix of relaxed locals and girls dressed up in a way that screamed "OMG the Hamptons!". Either way, it made for great people watching. My only complaint was that the music was just a bit loud. Other than that it was a great place to grab dinner. We drove an hour from where we were staying on Long Island and I would absolutely come back. If I lived nearby, I would totally be a regular here. Oh and I disagree with the comment about it being overpriced. The food and service are great (and appear to be consistent), and for crying out loud you're at a waterside restaurant in The Hamptons. Ordered the "Hot and stormy" - banana liquor, jalapeños and ginger beer. This drink have a little kick to it, very unique. Ordered the jerk ribs as appetizer, probably the best ribs I ever had, only wished there was more on the plate, because it's $13 for only 4 ribs.
