We have been there a few times in the past and it was pretty good. However, last night was awful. Two of received raw flounder. It was taken back, and I imagine just put under the broiler. With other restaurants, people have been served a whole new dinner. I ordered the three cluster of snow crabs, which were cold, as well as the French fries were ice cold. The snow crabs were the tiniest I have ever seen for the money I paid. The server was very nice and polite young man, but needs further training. No one even asked if everything was ok. Let's face it, Billy's is unique! (And in a very nice way) anyone who complains probably had unreasonable expectations going in . If anything, the food rises above what you would expect from a casual dockside space. I've never had a bad meal there. From hot dogs to lobsters every meal has been good and served with enthusiasm by a great crew. How they put out the volume of food that they do is a testament to a great kitchen! Went to Billy's by the Bay to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend. They had a live band and the place was crowded. I was directed to a table in the front which the busboy promptly cleaned. No wait staff ever appeared I went to the bar to purchase a beer. I received change for a $ 10. Only problem was I paid with a $20. I asked for a menu but it fell on deaf ears I enjoyed the Blue Moon as no one was interested in taking my order for food I left when the set was finished. we went to Billy's on the bay on the 4th of July for Lunch. My husband is on oxygen so the hostess said wait here and she would try and get a table for us. while waiting my friend said wait outside to my husband because it was very hot and that there was quite a lot of people waiting on line. the owner came out of the kitchen and heard us talking and yelled I don't like your fucken attitude and my friend said I don't like your attitude either, so the owner said if you don't like my attitude then get the fuck out. We were shocked that he would talk to his customers like that. His hostess apologized for him and even the waitress shook her head knowing we were simply waiting to be seated. The customers were shocked also. We will never go to Billy's on the Bay ever again. The owner is a crazy mad man. read more

My husband and I decided to go for a late lunch/early dinner. We were seated at our table and completely ignored. We left after a half hour of not being acknowledged. The place was very busy, however, If the waiter would have at least made eye contact and stated that he'd be over in a few - we'd completely understand.... After scouting the marina location - we have seen the signs on the way into downtown Greenport many times - our group of four arrived for a late Saturday lunch. The place was jumping and all seating was still enclosed by the roll-down plastic windbreaks. A few boat owners were finishing up sanding & painting around us, and the view was still nice. Expect it's even better when the boats are in the water. The outdoor space is large and sports several large TV screens against the building - cant hear 'em but you can keep up with your team. Seating is on sturdy wood benches along the outside rail and tables to the inside. Classic boatyard. The menu offers a bit of this and that - standard fried fare and burgers, along with some tasty sandwiches, lobster roll, baskets and of course - raw bar! This is literally the worst restaurant in greenport. While we were sat immediately, no one ever came over to take our drink order. All the waitress would look over at us for a quick glance but would quickly avoid eye contact. After about 25 minutes, another table of 4 was sat and immediately their order was taken. No one acknowledged our existence. Even after getting up and leaving, no one even cared to see what was happening. Absolutely horrible. Do not waste your money or time. We waited a significant amount of time to be seated, and then was pointed to a table while everyone else was personally seated. We then waited forever for menus then another eternity for our orders to be taken. We were almost into the 22nd Century when our food finally arrived. The server literally dropped one of the very overpriced, overcooked shrimp off of my shrimp blt onto the uncovered tabled (there were only three shrimp now there were only two edible shrimp) The food was horrible and overpriced. Then her husband came out and did the same. The most unprofessional encounter and the owners had no explanation as to why that happened. An apology would have been nice considering every other table received their appetizers before their entrees. A lesson in class, as well as, restaurant etiquette is warranted at that location. Definitely a casual place off the beaten path but well worth the trip. Only a half mile off the highway, in the middle of an actual ship yard and marina. We had a great and very happy, friendly waiter. I got a mango margarita and they don't skimp on the tequila. Very good. I had the New England Clam Chowder to start and it was the best I think I have ever had. Full of clams. My companions had the baked clam cakes and they were excellent. We all had the lobster special! 1.5 lbs with corn, cole slaw, and a side, for $25. It was a lot of lobster, but we all finished them. Very tasty! my fiancé and I were at Billy's on the bay, when I heard the owner speak to a customer who was on oxygen and just wanted to wait inside the building because it was over 90° outside and hard for him to breathe in that kind of heat. When he told the customer you have to wait outside and if you don't like it get the fuck out I was shocked I will never go and support this business ever again. The place is inside a boat yard and the food actually was terrible I'm not just saying that because of what I heard the food really was bad so Dine at your own risk with this restaurant, I wouldn't give this owner my business ever again. This is a great location, right by the sea it's has the perfect scenery for the definition of summer. Service was friendly, always helping us out and making sure we were okay with our meal. The food overall was okay. The lobster roll had too much celery in it, which ruined the roll because I just wanted to taste the fresh lobster. If they didn't have celery in it, this definitely would've been much better. The best part of the meal was the bacon wrapped scallops.
