Las Americas is definitely the best Spanish restaurant in the neighborhood. But they can be hit or miss. The plus side is that they have a wide range of great Spanish food selections, with taste on par with restaurants in the Bronx. And that's a big compliment. While the food is excellent, they are not consistent with the portions. For example, I recently ordered a plate with pork ribs, and they gave me one rib and a half. And this cost 10 bucks! The person who usually gives the small portions is the pretty Latina that wears makeup. The rest tend to be much more generous. Generally, the best deals are dinner combos. And note that they do charge a fee + taxes when you lay by credit card, which they don't mention. So, as long as you get the right person, you should be happy. read more

Keeping this simple. Delicious pizza!! Amazing renovation and decor. Small location but maximized efficiency to seat a good amount of people. Open late at least on Friday and Saturday. I'm here on a Saturday night at 2am and still going strong with delicious pizza. A Haven't tried the other food yet but after just tasting the pizza I will definitely be trying other foods here. Staff are very friendly and food is heated up very quickly and pizza tasted very fresh. Will be here again and recommend everyone to try them and support their new business here. Food is good but service is horrible. I was a customer 20 years ago and just started going back and the young ladies there are not friendly at all. I felt like they didn't care if I bought from them or not. Asking for info on menu and prices was like pulling teeth. I almost apologized for interrupting their personal conversation. Sheesh! Or to put it more simply, I like pork. Las Americas has been around for years but I knew nothing about it pre-Uber Eats. Pork with rice and pigeon peas for $7 was an old-school classic. If you're a fan of ultra-lean pork or Beyond Pork or pork lollipops glazed with lime cilantro reduction, you might not like it. If you are not Hispanic don't go there they will NOT respect you as a person. They ignore black people when they're trying to order and smile and are really friendly with other Hispanic people while being rushing and dismissive with others. There's been many times I ordered over the phone and tried to pick up in restaurant and stood in line and despite the order being ready they will call everyone else, even taking new orders before just handing me my food. I've given them multiple chances because their food is good but their body language and customer service (unless you're visibly Hispanic)is terrible. I walked in randomly, one day after work and I ordered the oxtail with yellow rice and black beans. Looked like a nice mix. Sancocho, pernil, baked macaroni, bbq ribs, and arroz con gondules all in a row???? I'm confused but it looks good. The Order: Rice & Peas topped with a little Sancocho Oxtails Baked Macaroni Pollo a la Brasa (Roast Chicken) Mixed Veg The Verdict: Rice & Peas was PR nice! Sancocho was so so. A little lighter in flavor than I am accustom to. Oxtails were perfectly cooked melt away tender. So nice. But again flavor too light but executed perfectly. Mac & Cheese was extra soul food delicious. This was legit soul food mac & cheese. Chicken was roasted right. Veg were fresh. Price well under 20$ for all this. I generally pick up whenever I am in JC Municipal Court but today we ordered for delivery and despite the fact that there was a hiccup (went to wrong bldg) they were very amicable in sending the delivery back out- the delivery guy was apologetic and extremely kind! Now, for the best part....la comida!! The Cuban Sandwiches are juuustt right! I get them often but today I ordered a Mofongo con pernil and they have certainly won 1st place in this category for me!! For all of my non-Latino foodie compatriots, Mofongo is fried plantain which is then smashed and seasoned. If you like they can add pernil (roasted pork), Shrimp or Cbicharon de cerdo (fried pork chunks). Ask for a side of gravy which is the sauce from either the chicken stew or the beef stew- so good! Really good Journal Square restaurants need more of a Yelp presence, and Las Americas Restaurant definitely falls into this category. I hesitated to enter this restaurant because its name was so similar to a health ordinance nightmare on Grove St., and I was concerned that the two were affiliated. But this place is such a wonderful find and I feel like such a fool for not having braved it sooner! Las Americas Restaurant advertises "Hispanic and American Food", and they serve everything from standard breakfast sandwiches, to consistently delicious Spanish/Hispanic/Latin American fare, and even collard greens and an adobo-seasoned mac and cheese, to burgers and fries. Ok, so the menu is definitely all over the place. But I highly recommend visiting the restaurant in person and sampling their daily specials and also their yummy fried snacks (empanadas, plátanos maduros, papas rellenas, etc.) The prices are GREAT, and to my immense relief and gratitude, the restaurant is always kept extremely clean! read more

I recently bought a Cuban sandwich with extra cheese, note that I paid extra. When I got the sandwich, it was the opposite of what I had ordered. There was barely cheese and the sandwich only had one ham and it was cut in half. I had to step out of the office, walk back and tell them about the problem. On a short notice, I needed to have food catered for my sons baptism for about 20 people. They had no problem with it being 2 days away and even offered delivery. They were very polite and professional and the portions of food were perfect. All the food was well seasoned and cooked thoroughly. The option we selected came with a large tray of rice a large tray of chicken medium tray of pernil (roasted pork shoulder) medium tray of green salad and a small tray of maduros (sweet plantains). Everything was delicious! I will be sure to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Spanish food especially if they are looking for a party to be catered. I really tried to give this place a try. The food is good but their customer service is awful. I ordered from here twice in the past 2 weeks. The first time I ordered for delivery; asked for a sandwich and a strawberry/banana smoothie. I called in on my way to work to order 2 sandwiches for pick up. The lady asked if I wanted everything on it, I told her I wanted lettuce, tomato, and mayo. She asked if onions were okay, I said no. When I arrived at my office I saw there was cheese. I don't eat cheese. So I called in and spoke to the lady, who tried to argue that I was wrong, that I didn't say no cheese. No, I didn't but I did say I only wanted lettuce, tomato and mayo. Instead of being apologetic, she blamed me for her mistake. And instead of replacing both sandwich she offered to replace just one. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said he only arrived after 2. When I asked his name, she said she didn't know her manager's name. Yeah, ok. The people here are INCOMPETENT IDIOTS who do not know the meaning of customer service. The food is alright, but definitely not worth the horrible experience. read more
