A little messy but very worth it. Good thing they give you a lot of napkins ! Burger came with chips so I substitute it with fries for an extra $2.50. 805 beer on drafts with a lime. 5/5 *alcohol orders are made separately at their bar in the back . There's plenty of seating options I love it. There's a few inside and out with the front sidewalk view. There's plenty in the back bar area . Then the back patio where you can get some sunlight . Place your order at the counter and in no time, a server will bring your meal to your table . Seating is either inside or if you so choose, you can also sit at the bar or the front or back areas. My friend chose a chicken bowl which had lots of fresh veggies and rice topped with teriyaki sauce. One of my go-to spots whenever I come to Ventura, Duke's always has great food, especially the soups. During a two-day getaway trip, I came to Duke's twice....first having the New England Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, then later, a grilled cheese sandwich paired with tomato soup in a bread bowl. This is a cool spot. We've always enjoyed coming in here! This was the first time we came when they had live music and the band was good and so was the sound! A lively bunch of what appeared to be regulars! Definitely look forward to coming back to enjoy some more live music here. Unfortunately, the NY Pastrami sandwich that I got made me pretty sick. Within a couple hours of eating, it hit me... was pretty ill throughout the night and the next morning. Definitely a great place to stop for lunch if you're in the area! This was honestly some of the best fish and chips we've ever had. The batter was really flavorful and light, and the fries were perfectly cooked. There was a lot of fish and not too much breading which we appreciated. The clam chowder wasn't stellar so I'd probably order something else next time but the fish and chips more than made up for it. The vibe is very low key and relaxed and is really close to the water if you wanted to take a walk over after eating. Parking can be tricky so definitely give yourself enough time. read more

OMG! Delicious! Great Hazy! We had a Southern Crispy Sandwich with fries, Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and a California Burrito with chicken. All were great and nothing left to take home! Food: We ordered the Kona chili, loaded fries with carne asada, and fish and chips. The food was alright, nothing too special. While the presentation was great, the taste of the food seemed lackluster. The Kona Chili (~$7) was the chili with a cup of rice in the middle. In my opinion, these didn't go well together and just didn't taste that good; I wish I got the chili bowl on its own. The loaded fries with carne asada (~$17) was the worst part of our meal. The fries were surprisingly dry and the cheese seemed hard and coagulated. It just seemed like it had already been sitting out for some time... It cost like an extra $4 or $5 to add carne asada, which was also dry and just didn't fit with the dish. The fish and chips (~$21) were good. The fish was well cooked and tasty. The fries again were dry. I don't know why I thought this but I expected a larger portion than what I had gotten for ~$21. Overall, my girlfriend and I did not enjoy the food as much as we had expected. The food wasn't bad but was just mediocre in my opinion. The food at other tables looked really good though so maybe we just ordered the wrong things... Service: This is one of those restaurants where you order and pay at the front in the beginning and they bring you your food and never see you again. It took us like 15-20 minutes to get our food and this was in the afternoon around 3 pm when it wasn't so busy... Ambiance: The ambiance is great and I can see this place popping when there's a good game going on. Busy bar as well. Seems fun. Overall, while the food was fine, it didn't meet our expectations and wasn't worth the price we paid for it. So many have tried and failed. Dukes Beach Grill is a true neighborhood legend and local hangout. Not even a pandemic could keep this joint down and i'm grateful. The menu offers a large variety of choices but no matter what you decide on do not pass on the homemade chowder. There are plenty of screens for the sports enthused, arcade games for the kiddos and super nice (remodeled) pet friendly patio. The bar area can get pretty congested, especially on evenings when there is live music or trivia in the house, but thats just part of the communal vibe. The staff always makes me feel welcome, appreciated and, well, special. The food is always good and reasonably priced. My wife is a big fan of the Cobb Salad and Chicken Quesadilla and I'm down with a BLAT sammie or some loaded potato skins I always think of Dukes Beach Grill first when I think about going out locally. I think this is my favorite place out in Ventura. We got there early and kicked things off with bloody marys. We sat outside, it was the perfect day to do so! Live music on Saturdays: it's a favorite of locals any day of the week. The food is good and varies from classic burgers, sandwiches, tacos and fish and chips to full meals. Great breakfasts on the weekend! My favorite sandwich is the grilled chicken and bacon Gizmo. Dukes is NOISY and lively when full, especially when local pro teams are on. Prices are reasonable and the food quite tasty. There's a whole arcade play area with games for kids. Limited outdoor seating, but if you get there ahead of the rush you can grab some late sun. The crowd is mostly locals and people who want a casual drink spot with tvs and games for the kids. The decor is surfboards and ocean art. The vibe is laid back and relaxed, but the food is fresh, hearty and consistently delicious. The service is always great and nice. The staff seem happy there. I normally order a chicken or fish dish but my family loves the beef dishes as well. I ordered the chicken , cheese, avocado and grilled onions on ciabatta with a side of onion rings. Came in around 1:30pm to watch the SF/LA game. It was a very packed and LOUD atmosphere... felt chaotic with little kids running around in the bar area. There is a lot of seating with a cool nautical feel inside. You can tell a lot of regulars come here but I really don't understand the draw very much other than it is conveniently close to the beach. This is my third time here and the food is lackluster and bland. I was really craving ceviche but I guess I should have known better (I just figured we are by the beach...maybe they can do a mean ceviche?!). The red snapper was spongy and there was hardly any pico or cilantro, no lime?! I had to do major surgery with lemon, salt, pepper and Tapatio to make it even remotely edible. For $15, it was insulting tbh. The bartenders were the best thing about this experience. Very attentive, accommodating, funny and nice! Had fun meeting some cool people at the bar. I'd probably come back for a drink and to watch the game but that would be the extent of my visits, unfortunately. Bonus points for playing blacked out baseball games.
