You know what makes me sad? There are literally only 3 Persian restaurants the Seattle area: this one, Caspian, and Persepolis. Caspian is super pricy ($17 for a koobideh plate) and Persepolis is in the U-District, which is hard for me to get to, so I decided to give Rumi a try. It was pretty good. The koobideh plate is only $10 here, which is a really good deal. They also serve a cornish hen, broken down, seasoned with saffron, and roasted (and you can get it with the koobideh as a Soltani dish). The cornish is really good, but it's way too much chicken for one person. My cohort got the khoresht fesenjan, which is chicken stewed in pomegranates and walnuts. It was really good. It looks like curry, but the flavor is sweet and fruity. The food here isn't as good as Persian restaurants in LA, but it's still good. And given the scarcity of Persian restaurants in the Seattle area, I'm happy to eat what Rumi will serve me. read more

It was our first time at this restaurant and I was so disappointed with the food offered. First we ordered Ghimeh stew. I don't even think you can call it a stew. It was re-heated at lest 5 times. All the peas became a consistency of mashed potatoes and the meat had a horrible aftertaste. The koobideh and barg were as horrible as the stew with the aftertaste of an old meat. I cannot believe that all the entries we ordered and even must o khiar were prepared very poorly. I will never return to this restaurant again. And also don't think you are saving money. read more

I was told they have updated the restaurant and that the food quality has improved.. Wrong. Same old low low grade meat with no taste. I have no idea what they put in their kabob because it smells like beef, it looks traditional Persian ground beef kabob , however it taste like eating a piece of leftover shoe that was soaked in animal fat and then grilled. I simply do not understand what it is that they mixed with the ground beef because it's not beef , If someone knows this please tell me or contact the Department of Health because whatever it is cannot be called beef unless it is actually beef. Unfortunately there are only two restaurant in Kirkland that serve Persian ground beef kabobs and they are both terrible when it comes to their "meat like" products. If the owners are reading this , I strongly recommend you do the right thing and change your ways because your business will be shut down , not only because of health hazard aspect of things but because Persians will not eat this food and if Persians won't eat it then 90% of your customers won't eat it. I thought this was going to be a diamond in the rough, but I was only right about the rough part. From the moment we arrived, it was rather disappointing. The menu they provided to us looked nothing like the online menu and it took some prodding before we found out we could order khoreshts here even though they were not listed. The maust was lacking in flavor and texture, the eggplant appetizers (both varieties and I cannot recall the names... blame it on pregnancy brain!) were not prepared well and the lavash was dry and pretty flavorless. The koobideh kabob was okay, the ghormeh sabzi eh and the chicken was actually the highlight of the entire family meal. The chicken was seasoned and cooked nicely and everyone wished they had ordered that instead of their own dish. I came home on a mission to make homemade Persian food and was much happier with my lamb ghormeh sabzi. I would recommend spending your money at the Persian markets next door and whipping up your own meal. Sorry, Rumi, but this meal left a lot to be desired! We won't be back :( read more

I was happy to have found a non-teriyaki, non-fast food option in the area near my office so I was really excited to try Rumi (tucked away behind the KFC). I got the lamb shishleek to go. It smelled awesome but I found it to be a bit lacking for flavor. However, based on other reviews, maybe it was an off day so I would totally try it again since they seemed very nice and the quality seemed decent just a bit low on seasoning/flavor on the meat. read more

Great food! We ordered Rumi special and all meats were amazing. Lamb chops superb, both yogurt sauces, chicken with Barbary, lavosh, pickled veg, rice. Every thing was so good. Can't wait to be hungry again so We can have leftovers read more

Went on a Tuesday late evening. Located in a strip mall behind KFC, the interior is clean and simple. 10 or so tables, and wood dance floor in the back for the weekend belly dancer events. Menu was pretty simple, some traditional appetizers, soda, tea, dough (no alcohol). Dinner menu had a variety of Kabob combinations, beef, chicken, vegetarian, not sure if I saw lamb, and didn't see any seafood. Also, noticed that they do not have any types khoresh (stew to put on rice). Although, when I asked about this, they implied that they might offer it in the future. We ordered a couple shirazi salads, a kubideh and a chicken/kubideh combo, a tea and a soda, total came out to ~$42 (before tip). Shirazi salad was decent, but not as fresh as I would have liked... am guessing it was made earlier in the day, and we were there 30 minutes before they close. The kabobs were not bad, but both were over cooked and a little dry for my liking. However, they have only been open for a few weeks, so i will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are still getting used to their grill and equipment. Portions were only ok. I have definitely had much larger portions, but these weren't tiny as one of the earlier reviews pointed out. Also regarding the amount of chicken provided, I posted a picture of my combo. There was a decent amount of chicken, not like one of the other reviewers experienced (saying only a few chicken nugget sized pieces). One positive note, they brought out a plate with feta, cucumbers, tomatoes and basil with some lavash like bread. This is something a lot of other places would try and charge you for (only thing missing was onion). All in all I was pleased with the visit, and the lady who sat us and took our order (one of the owners), was pleasant and charming. I will definitely go again in a month or two to see how they have adapted after being open for a few months. For the Iranian hard core, weekend mornings they over "kaleh-pache" (if you have to ask what this is... you don't want it). But nice for the old school Iranians :) read more

Service was good, they seem appreciative of our patronage. I had the eggplant dip which came with tortilla like bread. Waiter gave us a second basket of bread, don't know why, first basket was plenty and it wasn't that good. Ordered the joojeh chicken which came with more bread, a super long piece. I'm sure the bread was homemade, but they did not warm it for serving. The chicken breast was flavorful and juicy. The food was delicious and I'd give it 4 stars but they don't have alcohol of any kind. For appetizer, I got the eggplant dip with flatbread - it could have used a little more flavor, but was tasty overall. I also had the lamb chops with beef kabob and long rice. All very well seasoned, lamb was a little overlooked but very tender and delicious. Beef kabob was tasty. Long grain rice (Bismatti maybe) is fluffy and had some saffron seasoning. I also had the savory yogurt drink - unexpectedly pleasant and refreshing. We went to Rumi for lunch on a recommendation. One person ordered a lunch special of lamb -- good, but skimpy. Another ordered some kind of meat (chicken?) in a sauce with pomegranate syrup and A LOT of rice. It was not good -- grainy and kind of tasteless and certainly unappetizing to look at. Service was slow (took 20 minutes to get a glass of water and there was no one else in the restaurant). The server seemed to be too busy on his cell phone to wait on customers. We all agreed it was over-priced, not good food, and we would not return. read more

Crazy disappointed with the quality and flavors of the food from Rumi. We ordered via Amazon Delivery and were excited to try this place (have been on a mission to try all of the Persian restaurants around) ... Our food was so dry and tasteless, neither of which were a result of waiting for delivery time. 2 of our 4 plates had hairs discovered in them. I was absolutely famished when I got to this restaurant, and had been having a very stressful month/fall/winter, etc. I was in the mood for something healthy and a bit "meaty", but not greasy or more unhealthy, etc. Persian food sounded PERFECT. When I got inside, I noticed the beautiful interior design and water fountain area, kind of thing. It was quite nice, idyllic really... I like the general atmosphere of this restaurant as well, I can't put my finger on it, but it feels very, very warm and friendly, etc. Its not an especially large restaurant, but, again, I liked the interior design quite a bit. :-) So, I ordered lamb and rice, with the veggies/sides, etc. that come with it-stewed tomato, sliced cucumber/herbs, orange slices, roll/bread, and a light colored cheese of sorts (as I don't like cheese, I just ignored the cheese), plus water. The food was just PERFECT! :-) I was just full enough after finishing, not "stuffed", but definitely comfortably full. The lamb was simply AMAZING, I've rarely had lamb that was cooked so perfectly... The rice and veggies complemented each other extremely well, and I can say that, without a doubt, that was the tastiest stewed tomato I have ever had. This is a GREAT restaurant for any of you in the area that are looking for something not super spicy/savory (it isn't Indian cuisine, basically), not too expensive, fairly filling and healthy, and somewhat less familiar (Persian is a cuisine that is still less familiar to many than East or SE Asian, German, and Indian cuisines, etc., along with the more familiar Italian, Mexican, Tex-Mex cuisines, etc.). The Kabab Barg was hard as your shoes bottom , tomatoes were sick and needed to go to ER . The food preparation got too long that I wish I would go home and cook my own meal . The koobide Kabob tasted uncooked , will never eat there again. read more

This is a great restaurant to get your Persian food fix. We thought the service was great and the restaurant was clean. I like that they bring a plate of tomatoes/cucumbers/feta/herbs w/ bread at the start. We ordered doogh (it was yum) an eggplant appetizer kashk bademjaan (was a bit too oily), one koobideh (ground beef) and a chicken breast kabob. Our food was not bad, I think our biggest complaint is that the kabob was bit overcooked, so the meat was dry. I'll definitely be back for the $9.99 koobideh as opposed to going to Caspian for $17 koobideh! But I'm hoping the Rumi folks read this and don't overcook the kabob in the future :) read more

I really wanted to like this place but I can't say I enjoyed a single thing I ordered. The yogurt drink was wayyyt to salty, they couldn't make my favorite dish vegetarian because it is already made with beef, so I ordered a vegetable kabob. It was the worst and most overpriced thing ever. They don't even use real saffron in the rice. It's yellow food coloring. I ordered some hummus thinking you can't go wrong with that and it was so dry and tasteless. Please do your self a favor and go to a Persian place that at least knows how to cook Persian food.... read more

I've been to this place a few times and have tried a few of their dishes. My main complaint is about inconsistency of the quality. I've had very good kebobs, and also some bad ones (same dish). Once ordered take out for a gathering and the food wasn't something that I would go back for it. I wish they pay more attention to the quality of food and excellence of service. read more

Very good food, good value, great service. Relaxed atmosphere, but nice (more classy than you'd expect in this strip mall). We had both the eggplant appetizers. The cooked eggplant (as opposed to the smoked with tomato) was wonderful. The koobideh entree was good, and quite a generous portion for the price. We didn't try the chicken that the earlier reviewer complained about, so it's possible that the koobideh is mich better value. It all went well with the yogurt they served, particularly the cucumber yogurt. And the service was really friendly; the staff genuinely seemed to enjoy giving us a great meal experience. First time here, someone mentioned a Persian place in Kirkland and tried it today. Ordered the Chicken kabob...and was easily the worst I have ever had. Chicken was not cooked well, had no flavor, was just bad. Big portion though. I pretty much wasted everything and got chicken shawarma from Mediterranean kitchen and finished my dinner. The food was very bland the first time I went. I thought a heavier hand with salt and seasoning would fix it. I also thought maybe it was just an off day. A friend of mine went. Same experience. Bland. Still, I like to try a place at least twice before review. Most recently I went in, I got take-out, and there was hair in the food. Not subtly either. Right on top. Huge pieces. Like they were placed there. I can't report on the flavor of the food, because I figured, with hair that obviously visible on top, I didn't want to risk possible illness. Seriously, if I knew the food tasted great, I would have probably risked it. I've done it before. The owners are very pleasant and provide solid customer service. The eggplant appetizer is delicious. The cornish hen is delicious. The Rumi special is a great deal. This was my first visit and it was by mistake i had meant to go to a Persian restaurant in Bellevue but since i traveled from west Seattle i ordered. I ordered kabob koobideh and thought the food was not of good quality. The only entree i enjoyed was the basmati rice . The restaurant was clean but the bathroom was a complete mess with tissue everywhere. I got the Cornish (chicken)and half the skewer was still pink on the inside Cuz it wasn't cooked through. The koobideh was fine. Doogh was watery and tasted weird. Sure it's cheaper, but I'd pay the extra money or travel the extra mile to caspian or presepolis. I don't want to eat undertooked meat.
