It was my birthday, and we had family waiting for a simple order of two rotisserie chickens since they're the only Halal food game near us. Order was placed by phone, and the lady took it stating it would take an hour. Went to pick up after an hour of placing, and was told by the sleepy guy behind the counter that there was a misunderstanding and he gave it out to someone else. Rather flabergasted, I didn't know what to say. He said he could do me a super huge favour and place another order for 45 minutes after. I said, thanks, but no thanks as I had family waiting. Sure, mistakes can be made, but really, no apology, not even an offer for either a discount, or even a substituion. He simply walked away as if it was nothing to ruin someone's special day. If used to go here, always dreading their slow service especially at checkout, and rather silly rules like, "you have to order 3 chickens minimum." Though, somehow, this time, it was 2 chicken minimum... Never again, learned my lesson. I have been here several times. The food is always good. I always order hot food or baked goods. The pretty young girl behind the counter is horrible. Really bad customer service. She seems to be upset and easily irritated with questions that I have. I am all about supporting local businesses but her attitude makes me not want to return. News flash: I am not there to be your friend and wouldn't otherwise talk to you if I didn't have to..I am just trying to support your business. I'd love to see you thrive. Me and my wife where so excited to try this place it's literally next to our home, The place does have Nice decor although the service is not great. Pacifically the lady at the bakery was rude, uninterested, and simply annoyed that we were there asking questions about the pastries. I got here around 12:30 and was the only one here, ordered the beef plate. The wait time was 25mins! In addition, the meat portion was nothing like I saw in the previous review photos, there were only 6 tiny pieces of overcooked meat. It definitely did not worth $14. Really great place to get unique baked goods and spices, I like the layout of the place. The hot foods are a little pricey though. The meat in their wrap was good but the wrap itself was too small. So excited for this replace to open. The store is beautiful, They sell lots of different spices and specialty import items. Food from the deli is really good. We got the lamb doner wrap and chapli plate. Both pretty tasty. You can taste the spices used, but it's not over salted or greasy. The rice was a little bland though and could have used a little more seasoning. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the portions are a little small for the price point. We also ordered the pakora, as I never tried Afghan pakora before. Was more like fried potato wedge slices with a very spicy batter. Not like Indian style pakora. Also very oily and took extra time for fried items. It was not worth the wait, in my opinion. The service is a bit disjointed, and this review was from when I went there a month ago so I hope it has improved since. Everyone is super nice, it's just a little disorganized for picking up your food when it's ready. And the wait time is real. Many of us had to follow up to ask where our food was and another lady came back because there was a mistake with her order or something. I'm sure they will get it down in time. Despite the ups and downs this time. I would recommend others to give this place a try. I plan on trying again. Didn't get a chance to try the sweets, but will try next time. It's really great to have a unique market in Elk Grove! They have baked goods, hot food, and a small grocery market section filled with snacks, teas and spices. They also have a butcher section for selected meats. Since they just opened fairly recently I think they're still getting the hang of the hot food section. I came in on a Monday evening and ordered a lamb bowl and it took 1 hour to make and they unfortunately forgot my order and it took the lady 10 minutes to slap together. So if you're in a rush I wouldn't recommend going here just yet because I think they're still getting their footing. read more

I've only ordered takeout from here, and while the food is decent, the phone service could be improved. I've had to call back a few times and often wait longer than expected just to place an order. I've tried the ashak, chicken kabob, rice, and bolani. The standout for me is definitely the bolani--all three varieties are tasty, crispy, and generously filled. Once inside it appears clean and open with a sitting area and shelves full of tea, seasonings, bins of nuts, and other items such as canned, bagged, and boxed Mediterranean foods. Halal meat and a cafeteria type deli and bakery are their too. They're ordering process isn't that coordinated, but they get the job done. Everyone seemed to be happy with their order. Their Bolani is delicious! Some wishes would be for some meatless options to their bowls and also more organic items for their hard goods. Prices are reasonable and they seem happy and it shows through their service. I'd say take a peek inside and make a deli and bakery purchase to let your tastebuds explore. Came in to buy some Kulfi ice cream. I noticed their freezer by the door may have been broken as they had two giant bag of ice providing cooling. We will always support this minority-owned small business due to the delicious food. Our last visit for some pastries left a lot to be desired. The cake and gulab Janus were placed in the same dessert container with the gulab jamun syrup mixing with the cake. My son and I decided to sit and dine in. The tables and floors were very dirty and sticky as was the trash can area. I sat down waiting for my son to finish eating his sweets and we left. They don't open until 11 but they still helped me, served me chai, and baklava. It is very peaceful in side and well decorated, all staff were friendly. The service is really bad, we waited for 1 hour for our food and when it finally arrived it was icing cold, the kabob was dry and tasteless.

My daughter and I tried this for the first time. And we ordered some food like kabob and nachos plus their pastries. While waiting for our order they served us free cup of green tea and black tea, it was way too good! I love it ! Their foodies are also great and prices are affordable. Staff are friendly. My second time visiting this place. At first I liked the ambiance because of the Afghan culture that this shop is showing. My first time ordering food and the server gave us a large portion but I noticed they gave us plastic spoons. The second time I visited I brought my wife on a Saturday evening food trip. I like to show her the Afghan authentic foods they serve. It was quite a wait for the food but again it didn't disappoint me until I noticed the plastic spoon they gave us to eat with our lamb chuck. I looked around the other tables, even small Afghan children was given a proper utensils. I felt racism playing a role. When I requested for proper utensils the cashier didn't give us the ones he has in front of him. He let us wait and took from somewhere. Also when I went home and checked my receipt he marked up the prices of the groceries I bought to 9% higher than the sticker prices. His name is Abdul. I will not come back to this store.
