So many feelings about Rumi's Passion. Is it the best? Yes and no. If you are a GF person, stop here for a sammy to go! The best GF bread, holds up perfectly, and is so good toasted. The other treats, such as the cake and doughnuts, don't even taste GF, especially good for those starting their GF journey. Things that need to be improved: 1. $18 for a sandwich?! Either make it $15, or add a drink and/or side. Though the sandwich was the perfect GF meal on my long drive, the price vs value needs some consideration. I can easily go to Jimmy John's and get an Unwich for about half that price. 2. Freshness of product. Purchased a cherry cake slice, and part of me wishes I didn't. Definitely tasted old, like it should be sold at 50% off or not sold at all. Though I can tell from it their cakes are probably lovely, the lack of freshness was a turn off. 3. Doughnut choices: labeled matcha vanilla, though if you blindfolded me, I would say they tasted just like vanilla. Was it a good vanilla doughnut? Yes. But I bought it for the matcha, which was not visually present. Also shouldn't have to purchase 6 doughnuts! I am one person. 4. Ingredients. It wasn't eye level which made it harder to locate. It would be helpful if information about refrigeration/preservatives was mentioned on the packaging or even mentioned by staff when checking out beyond the general expiration date. I called back after my visit to inquire & if staff had mentioned it in conversation, it would have saved me the time & extra step. The details about shelf life are good to know when gifting the baked items. A large space for the amount of products available - comfortably presented but not the coziest environment. Needed a gluten-free, vegan cake for a birthday this Sunday. Stopped there on the Wednesday before and was told they didn't have any of that type available and couldn't do a custom order for the rest of the month. Was told to check back each morning after they open to see if they made that type of cake that day. Called this morning - no cakes were made at all today. So they want me to call every morning on the slim chance they will have one? I called another bakery and will be able to have 2 dozen gluten-free, vegan jumbo cookies ready in 2 hours. This place has gone downhill since it was sold. The original owners were much more accommodating. Response to owner: Nice way to treat a customer? I was given incorrect information by your staff yesterday. I was a frequent customer before you bought the business. When my daughter moved to Maryland I had no need for gluten-free baked goods until she recently moved back. Ive purchased your cupcakes and bread for her since then. Maybe let your staff know that there is NO GUARANTEE that you'll have a vegan cake available. I was told to call when you open to see if one was still available and had not sold. I was told that NO CAKES had been baked by 1030 this morning. Be honest about your capabilities. I bought my cookies from a SCRATCH bakery by the way. Purchased their Gluten free white bread from Simply Fresh in Brighton. It is the best gluten free bread! The taste and texture is just like regular bread. So good, in fact, that I double checked the bag to make sure it was gluten free. What a treat to finally be able to enjoy toast and sandwiches again! I've tried countless other brands and attempted to make my own. Always disappointed with the dry, tasteless, cardboard results. Rumi's has a winner with this recipe. We came here to get a gluten free cake for a retirement party as the guest of honor is celiac. I had never been here and had no expectations at all. First, I was surprised at how many cars were in the parking lot..,this place was hopping! Second, the variety in the store was incredible! We were only there for a cake but wound up browsing the shelves. Third, some pastry was also dairy free. Personally, I can eat gluten but not dairy so glad to see a few options for me. I found this place around midnight right before my 26th birthday, sent it to my mom and told her I wanted to try the Sour Cream Coffee Loaf because I love the Tim Hortons Sour Cream Timbits but can't have them anymore. Rumi's Passion cannot hold a candle to the prior owner "You Take the Cake". I frequented the store for every occasion for many years! Whatever I came up with, they would make it! A red telephone with the push buttons and curly cord for my uncle when he retired from the phone company. They even made a toilet for a plummer friend's birthday! The cake artists were out of this world! Went to Rumi's for a birthday cake. Their glass refrigerator was barren, I had my choice of two cakes. One was blue, no decorations on either cake and he had no one there to even write "Happy Birthday" on it. It looked more like a little grocery store than a bakery. Then I tried the Challah bread which I fell in love with. Eventually I made the trek to Plymouth to check out their store front and have since been multiple times. In addition to delicious gluten free bread, they also have my favorite hotdog and hamburger buns. Some family members have tasted it and not noticed a difference from wheat-based bread. The pretzels sticks burned my tongue. I literally mean burned my tongue after eating several bites. Was I crazy? Seems not after googling information on it. When I called and spoke with Martin the next morning, he argued that they don't use Lye in their pretzels and toss the the next day. I did not say they use Lye. I told him to check with the salt used on the pretzels. Nope, that's not the problem he said. Our pretzels are made fresh everyday. What does that have to do with the pretzels BURNING my mouth? My review is more customer service based since I didn't purchase anything on my visit. I hate having to write bad reviews however I pride myself on always being completely honest. Having some food allergies and a gluten allergy that have developed recently I've been looking for a bakery that may be able to fit my needs. I had heard good things and read great reviews on Yelp about Rumi's and finally was in the area and able to stop in. The store was small but had a lot of very tasty treats inside. There were cookies, brownies, cakes, breads etc. Frozen and fresh items. However, we were not greeted by either of the employees upon entering or the whole time that we were in the store walking around. Not even when we were by the register looking at the bakery showcase. No one acknowledged us or offered any assistance what so ever. I could understand a bit more if it had been extremely busy but we were the only ones there at the time. Since i wasn't seeing anything that would fit in with my dietary needs and feeling very uncomfortable we decided to leave. As soon as we stepped outside my daughter said "wow, how weird was that?
