After many years of walking by Boule when they were closed, I finally visited in the afternoon and didn't find much bread left. Next time I'll have to stop by at 8:30 AM. I bought a loaf of challah bread for $5.00. It was fine, nothing special. There are better bakeries in metro Detroit, but Boule is a fine bakery for a loaf of bread at a reasonable price in this neighborhood. read more

After reading all the rave reviews, I've been dying to stop in, but because I work in the mornings, it just hasn't been a possibility. Finally this week, I stopped in a bought a loaf of the honey white. I had forgotten how there is nothing like a good piece of bakery bread. I devoured it. This morning I went back and bought a honey wheat loaf and peanut butter cookies. The young lady working the counter is kind and helpful and I'm thinking I need to find a way for a weekly trip! I like coming here when I'm in town. My family enjoys the pepperoni bread... not too many bakeries are making it anymore, the old-style way. (Like a personal lunch, or two lunches... not an entire loaf) I also like to bu the doggie bread bones.. very cute and .75 cents.. my wiener dogs like to run around the house with them. I like the sourdough.. it has a nice tang. It's not available with such a dense, weighty dough in many other places. I love the bread, scones and other baked goods at Boule. They're delicious. That said, I have never encountered a business that just randomly closes for various reasons more than Boule. It seems like at least 2-3 times every month I will go there during their regular business hours only to find a sign on the door saying "Closed for family emergency" or "Closed for plumbing issue" or some other random reason. I know staffing can be an issue, but it really makes me not want to shop there if I can't count on them being open on a regular schedule. read more

Solid artisan breads. I have had better cookies elsewhere but I am a real fan of the bread, croissants and scones. Cute smallish local shop, free samples of things if you ask and very informative staff. Rotating varieties so call ahead. I highly recommend the raisin breads myself. Get here before noon if you want to be sure to get your fave thing or call ahead and they will gladly set things aside for you. Not cheap but well made from scratch. read more

Absolutely the best bread you will ever put in your mouth. I have been completely spoiled by the quality; it is unparalleled. Best items include the artisan boule, croissants, and cherry chocolate cookies. Pro tip: ORDER A BIRTHDAY CAKE. Secret menu item. Also the sugar cookies are to die for. For the longest of times I thought I liked peanut butter cookies. Turns out I literally only like the peanut butter cookies from this place. Ever since I was little, if I had a shot or a dentist appointment, I would come here and my mom would but me a cookie as a reward. Now, after a particularly hard day or if I want a really nice day, I go here as a treat. GET THE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE! My one complaint is that these cookies are so good, you have to get up early to get them. Wait, and they're all gone. If they're gone, then get a scone. My favorite is the lemon ginger, though they're all good. Once again though, I have been here many times where they only have bread left. Understandable- they make everything fresh. Only the best quality for us Plymouthers! But still, go get that peanutbutter cookie! read more

Boule never disappoints in their food quality or service. I've picked up many loaves of bread and some pastries over the years. The rye bread is my favorite as are their croissants and scones. The staff are always very friendly which is truly amazing because I myself am a grouch when making puff pastry. Everything is baked in house but not in large batches so if there is something specific, go early. That is he only reason Boule gets 4 stars. I often go in on the hunt for a particular pastry and they are out already. I live close by, so I know I'll pop back in another time. There is ample parking on the street or behind in the parking garage so it never takes me more than a few minutes to pop in or out. They usually have holiday cookies as well during corresponding seasons. They are incredibly cute and very tasty. I find these also sell out quick so be sure to stop by sooner rather than later. read more

Yes, the bread and baked goods here are good. Really good. And I'm always glad to support a local shop vs. the chains (Panera, Great Harvest). BUT I have to be honest...the people that work here (and I assume own?) are not the friendliest. I always have a "feel good" feeling when I go in - good bread, helping the locals - but not necessarily when I leave. Not sure why that is, but it is. read more

This place became my lifeblood when I moved to Plymouth from Detroit. I was so used to fresh bread from Avalon and the Traffic Jam that I had to find a local bakery...and it turned out the Boule was just a block away from my job! Absolutely fantastic breads, oh, and the pepperoni rolls, the pesto mozzarella rolls...I could go on forever. But the scones are truly my weakness, they're simply divine. Service is friendly and enjoyable, or strictly professional at worst. I don't expect to be wooed when I'm in-and-out for a loaf of bread, but I always walk out of there feeling better than I did coming in. I had my first visit to Boule today. They were out of cinnamon scones (my favorite scone), so I got the lemon ginger flavor, which had pieces of candied ginger and a subtle lemon glaze. Tasty and moist, although I would have liked more lemon flavor. Still, a good choice. I also bought a loaf of the French country bread, which I can't stop eating. It has a nice chewy, flavorful crust and a dense center that is delicious bready goodness. At $4.50, it's not cheap, but is a nice treat. Customer service was good. The woman helping me was pretty friendly. I wouldn't buy my bread here all the time, just because of the cost, but it's a nice "sometimes" place. read more

Although I live in the state of Washington, family members live in Michigan, so I visit regularly. When I do, I frequent downtown Plymouth coffee shops for Internet access and, of course, coffee. While there, I often swing by my favorite bakery, Boule. I am a fan of their freshly baked loaves of bread, of various types, especially rye and sourdough. The ingredients are natural, they are delicious, and the prices are reasonable (especially the day-old, half-price loaves, when the latter are available). The cashier is always friendly. Boule Artisan Bakery is very upscale, and you pay more than you would for bread from the grocery store, but it's fresh and tasty and worth the price. The shop itself is cute. They have a huge window front so you can see all the puffy loaves and cookies they have on display and watch the employees as they bake. They also offer free samples. On a recent visit, as I was walking in, a mother was walking out with her two young girls under age five. Mom was carrying a small bag with some kind of treat in it, and each of the girls was holding a small bit of the raisin bread that was out as a sample. The generally have samples of two or three different breads or pastries, and they invite you to ask what the samples of the day are. Besides big puffy loaves of artisan bread, they also offer big cookies, scones, and other pastries. read more

Boule has quickly become my favorite bakery! Their breads are delicious and so fresh. Even their half off breads. Nearly the same price as a grocery store but well worth the extra $1. But what sealed the deal is their chocolate chip cookies. Something so basic but theirs taste like it's gourmet. I love the breads from Boule. They make a roasted garlic baguette that is incredible! You have to really like garlic, but it's so good! I have to freeze half of it as soon as I get home or it won't last more than a day. Their sourdough is also really good. Been going here since they opened and I love all the different kinds of bread - I'm also a big fan of the raspberry/almond scone & the almond croissants, when they have them. Everything is made fresh from scratch that morning. Some other places in town bake bread fresh in the morning, but it's from pre-packaged, frozen dough - you can taste the difference. The breads, scones and croissants are almost as good as Zingerman's. Get there early for the best selection. Fridays & Saturdays are the best day to have a choice of most of the breads they make. Everyone has their favorites. Pumpkin chocolate is a surprising and delicious combination, you just have to try it. Rosemary and sea salt focaccio is another great bread. read more

I absolutely love Boule! They are always so busy so its helpful to order ahead. Now that its fall I reccommend making some chili and grabbing a loaf of the cheddar jalepeno bread. My children and I love the bakery and the staff. My wife/son and I first found Boule during the Plymouth Art Fair (summer 2011) by accident. Once a month visits quickly turned into every other week and before you knew it became our Saturday morning ritual. I have been a customer of Boule for going on 6 years. Boule has the best of everything: scones (hard to pick a favorite), cookies(the cherry chocolate chunk is a cult favorite), breads(multigrain, cherry walnut, asiago black peppercorn...) EVERYTHING made fresh every night! I've been known to be in downtown Plymouth for dinner and peek into the windows to see the bakers working! Their baguettes are the best this side of Europe, bar none! In fact, that is the bread that started my love affair with Boule Artisan Bakery! They make it the way your Mom would- no junk. Do yourself a favor and try their breads, you will never go back to the grocery store for the preservative laden stuff you get there. read more

Boule has been around a long time, and is one of the few superb craft bread bakeries in metro Detroit. They also have cookies, scones, muffins, banana bread and a few other items. From my conversations with the staff, this company uses high end/healthy/natural/organic ingredients and traditional processes to produce delicious artisan products. The prices are obviously higher than Wonder bread, but still seem quite reasonable for the quality. I'm guessing they bake several hundred loaves in 15-20 varieties every morning, and often sell out of everything well before the end of the business day (so make sure to call ahead or go early if you need something specific). Our favorites are Cheddar-Jalapeno, a few other cheese breads, salt and pepper bread, and the Artisan Boule...but every bread we've tried has been excellent to exceptional. Friendly helpful staff.
