**This review is for drinks and views from the Rundle Lounge only. We did not have dinner here.** A beautiful way to welcome the evening. My husband and I were here at the end of July and decided to try and catch the day start to wane (as the sunset doesn't begin until after 9:30!) with a cocktail. The room itself is beautiful and reminiscent of a Swiss chateau with plush armchairs and heavy wood tables strewn about in intimate groupings. It had been raining all day, and so despite the clear skies for the rest of the evening, the outside seating area was closed (everything was soaked, we totally understand). Seating is first-come-first-serve here, and somehow we snagged seats right by the window in a cozy corner nook - it was our lucky day! We nestled onto our pillow-laiden couch/bench and perused the menu. We decided on the edamame appetizer (which was nothing short of delicious) - a perfect balance of umami and saltiness with our drinks. I ordered a Gin Gimlet (my new favorite drink) and he had a Whiskey on the rocks concoction. My drink was strong, sharp, and expertly made. The drinks were only eclipsed by the views. The vibe is slightly romantic, intimate, and cozy. I wore a casual dress and my husband was in a button down - we were surrounded by both people dressed much more fancy, and much more casual - so seems like anything goes for the attire! The service is great too, our waitress was nice without rushing us - which is always appreciated, even if we're just having a cocktail. Despite the Fairmont being a big hub of people and tourists, this spot felt a million years away from the hubble-bubble of downtown. A perfect intimate (and pretty romantic) pre dinner cocktail spot. Get ready to soak up the view as you feel your muscles unwind and relax - can't say if this had more to do with the alcohol or the views, but I'm going to say it was a little to do with both! I imagine they have fire pits going at night, and cozying up and watching the actual sunset is a must do! read more

Okay I get that hotel restaurants will be expensive. But I didn't realize how chincy the lounge would be when we ordered the ceviche. The server puts the plate down and there is like a whole bag worth of taro chips. I go and take a look at the ceviche and even commented to the server that the portion seemed very small. She said that was normal. I counted the amount of yellowtail chunks and there were like 4 small pieces with a mix of celery, corn nuts (very odd and kinda cheap), cherry tomatoes, and jalapenos. Basically I was going to pay $23 bucks for a plate of taro chips. My husband was so upset that he ordered the poké tacos and complained about the ceviche so the server took it away, and didn't charge us for it. Ambience was great obviously as the hotel is gorgeous. Our entire table (we celebrated my daughters 9th birthday) was pleased. The views from the Rundle bar were incredible. In the evenings, my husband and I enjoyed after drinks at the bar. Quite disappointed with this one. We had high expectations being that this was at the Fairmont. Their menu sounded amazing - but lacked flavour and service was below average. Wagyu beef tataki was drenched in sauce which was super salty. The actual beef was good but the salty chilli ponzu ruined it. The bison sliders were super dry - the toppings and flavours were just okay. The chicken wings were not good - sounds delicious on paper but we were sure they were popped into the over - with zero flavour. Only thing great about this place was the view. The Vermilion Room is a real treat... the mysterious book cases with hidden rooms behind make for the prefect escapism setting. The menu is inventive with variety, and the food leaves you feeling like a wolf... satisfied with just the right amount, but aching to try more. The cocktails are really worth a try. Ordered mussels... one was en empty shell when it arrived at the table. Ok. Had a Mai Tai and told the server it was the worst I've ever had when he asked how everything was. He said a guest from Hawaii recently told him the Mai Tai he had was the best he'd ever had... so I was quickly put in my place and reminded that my opinion is not valuable. What a vibe! Great cocktails, great views, and great service. This is a place you can truly lose yourself for an afternoon. Or the whole night really. Comfy couches, fire pits, and all with the scenery that brought you to Banff in the first place. This is a can't-miss spot to kick back without the crowds of downtown. The food is tasty, both small plates and main courses, but for me the cocktails really stood out. Many bars play to the middle with cocktails but not this one - the drinks are legit good. And the service is legit great! Two servers in particular stood above the rest: Kirt and Mélina. Both are friendly like family, both make you feel at home, both make your day better than it was before you had the good fortune to meet them. Real talk: if there were more Kirts and Mélinas in the world it would be a noticeably, I'd say spectacularly, better place. So escape the crowds, get to the Rundle Lounge, grab a couch, find Kirt or Mélina, order a cocktail (or beer or wine or...), and get ready to love feeling your day unwind. read more

*TLDR* Snow may have spoiled my plans, but boozy hot chocolates in the Rundle Lounge saved them again! I blooming love living in Canada, but the one thing that is a little rubbish here, is the number of holidays you get from work. So, to make the most of the couple of days I have left, we drove to the rockies and planned an epic itinerary full of amazing sounding hikes. ...But then snow came down in buckets and it was too unsafe for us to hike up into the mountains during a blizzard. Instead, we spent the day exploring Banff, the waterfalls and the cave and basin during the snowstorm. This meant by the time we were close-ish to the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel, I was really cold and just about ready for a drink. It was only the start of October, so Rundle Lounge folks didn't have a winter cocktail list yet BUT the waiter suggested a few amazing sounding hot, boozy drinks that made my whole day better! I then ordered their seafood chowder, which was so, soooo good! Seriously. It was packed with salmon, scallops and tasty sea food as well as just the right amount of veggies and cream. I was in heaven. The Rundle lounge doesn't have a huge menu, and we couldn't see the amazing views at all. But I *still* loved it. It was all down to the staff, who were really sweet, friendly and filled us with excellent food and drink. read more

Had a very pleasant few visits to Rundle Bar during our stay at the Fairmont for some drinks and light meals. Food was quite good -- so much so we came here again the next night and ordered the same thing. The atmosphere is very nice as well. Sebastian, our server, is one of the best servers we've ever had. He was very attentive, took time to answer our questions on recommendations for food in the hotel and around town, and really made our stay at the Fairmont more enjoyable. Great service! We came for the afternoon tea, and we were rather disappointed. The view is simply unreal, the venue beautiful, and the staff exemplary. However, the finger sandwiches and pastries were just ho-hum--and for the high price, we deserved to be wowed. They were stale, under seasoned, and inexpert, and their choux was just bad. Definitely grab a drink at the bar, but skip the tea. Plus the Fairmont charges absurd rates for parking. read more

Awesome view for afternoon tea but unfortunately the savories and sweets accompaniment were average at best. While some were okay but some were below average and we didn't even finished. For $80/person, this is pricey for the quality of food. We don't mind the small portions since we didn't come here to get full but we want each bite to be enjoyable. Also parking is $13/hour so that's $26 more for tea at this place. Overall with tip...be prepared to pay over $225 for two people for definitely an overpriced afternoon of tea. The Queens corner table is by far one of My favorite place to enjoy champagne tea time . I have been enjoying my high tea tradition for years and as a homeowner in the area I often share the experience with my family and guests. The view is one of the best in the world and the tea service is also lovely. I must say I do miss the old tea trolly service with all the different tea selections. A beautiful room with a spectacular view in an amazing hotel. We stopped in for a drink and a bite back in December while exploring the Banff Springs Hotel. We were given a great table at the windows looking out on the scenery that surrounds this great facility. Lots of local beers on tap to choose from, I went with the Grizzly Paw Session Ale and Heather had a Caesar. We ordered the Crispy Cauliflower Bites (good, as to be expected) and the Artisan Cheese & Charcuterie Board, which was fantastic... a great selection of local meats, cheeses, breads and preserves. We enjoyed just chilling out, enjoying our drinks and food, and looking out onto the snow covered mountains. This room couldn't be cozier. This is a true 5 start and this should have been a true 5 star rating save for one big detail. We were seated in the early afternoon, probably between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM. There was no wait to be seated, and while busy the place was not overflowing. Our server was great and was at our table regularly... often apologizing because two appetizers took one hour and fifteen minutes to arrive on our table from the time we ordered. The "sorry their running behind in the kitchen" starts to grow old after awhile and was not what we expected here. We aren't the complaining type, and just enjoyed our view and our drinks, but there were several families in for lunch from their winter adventures and I can't imagine how frustrated they would have been with hungry children. Unfortunate encounters with waitstaff left a bitter taste in my mouth. Was ignored by 2 different servers when trying to get directions to the washroom. I found our waiter to be quite rude and ignorant (verging on belligerent), towards me. I doubt I will be back or recommend the Rundle Bar to any of my friends. This is really too bad because this was an establishment I so looked forward to visiting on special occasions in the Banff area. Favorite bar and best views in Banff! Come for lunch or happy hour. Highly recommend the sweet potato fries and crudite. Lots of hidden nooks and fun places to sit inside and outside. Deb was wonderful on the patio and made great recommendations for lunch. Maxwell helped us inside and had so many great tips for the Banff area. Afternoon tea at Fairmont Banff Springs confirms every stereotypic view of tea you've ever had. The silverware, the fancy schmancyness, pinky ups, Grandma's styled linen...Fairmont makes it all come true. The deal here is you get your own pot of tea and 2 three tier trays of yummyness for $48/person. You can't split this between multiple people. You gotta come with an empty belly because the portions are deceivingly huge. The first tray has your savory delights, and the second one is for your sweet tooth. Fairmont changes the menu every few months so you might get something different than we did. Our sandwiches were ham and brie, curried chicken, mint cucumber (and others). The Devonshire cream on fresh, warm scones were to die for. The desserts were so decadent and fancy, I can't even remember the names. The image of their delicate existence is imbedded in my mind like extra arousing (food) porn. If you're a tea fanatic, prepare to get freaky like I did because their selection of loose leaf teas is superb. I could not get enough of the organic Kyoto Cherry Rose tea! Careful though, the REAL silverware gets really hot! Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's fancy. Yes, you NEED do it at least once in your life. Don't forget to add a sub-entry on your bucket list to waddle out of the restaurant extra full and satisfied because that's how my tea mates and I made our grand fancy schmancy exit. read more

I didn't make a reservation beforehand, but reservations were only available for Afternoon Tea anyway on Opentable. We didn't have to wait a bit at the bar, but thankfully, it wasn't a long wait. Generally, the food choices that we had at Rundle Lounge were pretty similar to those at Lakeview Lounge at Lake Louise. Visual presentation, the flavours, food portions... basically the same, just at a different location with a different view. Unfortunately. service was better at Lake Louise than of what we received at Rundle Lounge - nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out either and our server didn't go out of his way to keep us satisfied or see if we needed anything. I wouldn't particularly go back for the food - maybe for a drink or two if I was in the area. I believe Afternoon Tea is also what is popular and famous here, so I would aim to try that next time if I get a chance. read more

I've been here plenty of times before to eat and loved it but this time I was left a little underwhelmed. The menu isn't anything to write home about and isn't very extensive either. The sandwiches they have are ridiculously priced and my at all worth the cost. A simple Eli turkey sandwich was 22$ and even though it was huge I could not justify the cost. It would have gone soggy and I couldn't keep the left overs. The time it takes to get items is quite long, especially if you aren't having drinks. If you wish to go for the famed afternoon tea service at the Fairmont Banff Springs, it is served on the upper floor of the Rundle Lounge. On a visit to Banff, for a special treat we decided to go for the afternoon tea and made a reservation. It was not busy, but making a reservation ensured that the staff was ready and waiting for us upon arrival. When you first reach your table, you get to choose your tea variety from a cart of about twelve different tea blends. Each tea is described to you and you can choose the one that you want to try after smelling them and asking questions about which one might suit your tastes. I chose the Montebello Apple Spice which was nicely flavoured and a bit spicy. Once you have tea, all the little treats start to arrive. First was scones with cream and jam. Then sandwiches, fruit and cookies. It was absolutely delightful. The whole experience lasted a couple of hours and our waiter had a great personality. It was a bit pricey though, so don't go for afternoon tea expecting to have the Fairmont experience for a smaller financial investment. The afternoon tea for two people cost us about $100 once all was said and done. That being said, I would definitely do it again. It was a great experience and a wonderful way to pass the afternoon in a lovely hotel. Additionally, the upstairs tables have great views of the mountains. We visited the gift shop before departing and bought boxes of the teas we had tried during our afternoon tea to take home. It isn't as good as the fresh tea, but every now and then it's nice to have a cup of Montebello Apple Spice and remember that great experience. read more

This lounge reminds me of being invited to an exclusive party thrown by some of your closest friends. It's located in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the most luxurious place in town. At once elegant and informal, Rundle Lounge offers cocktails, spirits and snacks. It's a great place to catch up with friends in a comfortable setting with attentive service. We had drinks here after dinner and they were well made--- think boozy and flavorful. I had the Grape Mojito, which was a layered drink with grape, mint and gin... all of which you can taste in every sip. My sister had the Rosemary Old Fashioned, which was very tasty as well and came with two prunes on a stick which was a nice touch. Rundle Lounge has two floors; the first was a typical bar/restaurant setting, where the upstairs part had cocktail tables which is meant for private parties. Yelp Winter Break 2017 events were hosted here, and were highly enjoyable! They also offer afternoon tea, which we found out because there's a Yelp check-in offer for "free tea to-go," which they will only honor if you order the afternoon tea set. read more

I haven't done a lot of fancy afternoon teas in my life; I went a couple of times when I lived in Asia but that's about it. But the Rundle Lounge high tea impressed me with their tea selection, numerous food offerings and attentive service--not to mention the views. You sip your tea accompanied by gorgeous mountain views that are worth half the price of admission alone. But at $43 CAD per person, this is not a cheap affair by any means. Although the website notes no exercise wear allowed, we did come in after a day of hiking (aka wearing sneakers and exercise gear), but they didn't turn us away. Given our tea slot wasn't until later in the afternoon (3:15p), we had a light snack beforehand, but that meant we weren't prepared for the amount of food provided at the tea - which, to be clear, in our mind is definitely not a bad thing. The food was brought out in two rounds: savory and sweet, on beautiful tiered plates. Savory consisted of mini quiches, finger sandwiches, and scones (7 pieces per person), whereas sweet dishes involved mini cakes, cream puffs, cookies, and macarons (6 pieces per person). Combined with endless hot water refills of your tea pot, we walked out stuffed, with food to take home. Everything was delicious, but some items really stood out. For the savory: The mini croissants filled with egg salad were fresh tasting and not heavy on the mayo, smoked salmon quiches were well seasoned and served warm, and the scones were buttery and lightly sweetened and most importantly, not too dense. For the sweets: I'm not a big fan of lavender but the lavender and lemon cream puffs were nice and light, the mocha opera cake was my mom's personal favorite with a strong coffee flavor in a not too dense cake, and I'm always a fan of macarons. The Rundle Lounge is the main cocktail lounge inside the fancy schmancy Banff Springs Hotel. It consists of two floors and an outdoor patio that both overlook the beautiful Bow River valley. Rundle is the name of one of the mountains surrounding Banff by the way. Yes this is a classy lounge. Yes it's impressive. But what's terrific is you don't have to pay the big bucks for a room at the hotel to enjoy the lounge. Anyone from town can relax and have a few drinks in the Rundle Lounge. My only recommendation would be to dress somewhat nicely. Dressing ultra glam isn't necessary but worn/ripped jeans aren't allowed. There are a few seats at the bar (it's not very large) and a lot of lounge chairs are scattered throughout the floor. Service is restricted the downstairs section only. Speaking of service, it was great. The staff was busier than a beehive, running around and attending to the needs of many thirsty patrons. Food seemed OK but not very many patrons were eating food when I visited. Though my French onion soup was just fine. You may want to consider some of the other restaurants in the hotel for more food options. Bow Valley Grill is located next door but it's open for dinner on the weekends only. Regarding parking there is a parking garage (for a small fee) for visitors. Free parking can be found on the nearby street but it's first come first served. If you've got some time I recommend checking out some of the little shops and boutiques inside the hotel. It's like a little mini city inside the hotel. read more

Absolutely loved Afternoon Tea at the Rundle Lounge. Be sure to make a reservation in Open Table because the actual lounge that serves tea is quite intimate and seating is limited. If you find the main lounge, head up stairs for the portion for afternoon tea. We arrived early for our 2pm reservation, and one of the servers were kind enough to fit us in with a window table. She was incredibly friendly and very helpful in guiding through the Royal Afternoon Tea selections. There was a good selection of teas, my favorite was the Creamy Earl Grey. My husband had the Cucumber Melon, it was refreshing but not something he'd try again. If you aren't familiar with teas steeping they have a trusty "hour" glass to help remind you. Really appreciated that the server recommended we keep 1 menu to reference back to because each item had a back story about royal family favorites. It made the experience much more intimate. I know traditionally afternoon tea is meant as an in between meal, but I'd recommend skipping lunch and having this for lunch. It's well worth the price ($55 CAD) because it comes with a good variety of options, starting off with two scones, followed by finger sandwiches (5-6), and finishing with cakes (5-6). The items are quite rich and can be very filling. We parked at Bow Falls and hiked up so it was free!! read more

This location had such amazing ambience and enough privacy to host separate events or just restaurants and walk by beverage highlights. I loved the live music and feeling like I was in DisneyLand without my kids....come to think of it even though kids were around it was still vast but well decorated enough that I hardly knew it!! The night I was able to enjoy was above and the love music drifting up was absolutely perfect with a great sound for everyone!! My review is for the afternoon tea ceremony only, as I have no dined at the Rundle Lounge for anything else. The tea ceremony is definitely worth doing if you're on vacation in Banff, at least, as long as you're not from Northern Europe and may already be used to that sort of thing. The tea ceremony takes place up the upper floor of the Rundle Lounge, where you'll get an amazing view of the mountains to enjoy while feeling fancy gorging yourself on tea snacks. The tower of snacks is actually quite filling, as other reviewers have mentioned, and I would suggest planning this as a late lunch event so you can take advantage of it. The only complaints I had were that: Our tea bags were taken away as soon as we removed them from the pots, which meant we couldn't ask for more water after finishing the first pot; and I think they may use boiling water for all types of tea, which isn't really appropriate for lighter teas. Generally, I think it's a really fun experience to do while on vacation, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone staying at the Fairmont. If I end up in the area again, I'll probably plan an afternoon around it, and perhaps combine that with a spa day also at the Fairmont. read more

Afternoon Tea @ Rundle Lounge After you've been seated, a cart gets pushed to your table and you're given a brief run down of each tea thats offered. Our server was clearly running through a script in her head, but we didn't mind. The jars are then opened up and passed around so you're able to touch, see and smell the varieties of tea. I ended up picking the last jar. It had small bubble gum balls and had a really sweet fruity smell. The friend went with the Kyoto Cherry Rose green tea. After we placed our tea order, we were promptly given a martini glass of fresh fruit in order to cleanse our pallets. Afterwords, the glass was whisked away and replaced with this adorable three tiered serving tray. At first I was surprised to see there weren't any scones displayed but our server came around shortly after and dropped them off from a fresh bread basket. I didn't hesitate to pull apart my warm scone and spread some devonshire cream and strawberry jam all over it. There were four types of finger sandwiches: watercress & lemon spread, smoke salmon & cream cheese, smoked duck & lingonberry butter and lastly, egg salad on a mini croissant. The pastries included a vanilla creme brûlée shooter, mini profiteroles, strawberry and lemon tarts and chocolate cake. Besides the tea, which turned out to be the Berry Berry Fairmont Blend, everything else was just "okay". Nothing really stood out and the service started to go down hill once we were served our scone and sandwiches - more on that later. The egg salad was the most flavourful of all the finger sandwiches. The smoke salmon was enjoyable as well but it's really hard to mess up salmon and creme cheese. The other two sandwiches I couldn't even finish, and that's saying a lot because they were at most, three bite sandwiches. The watercress & lemon spread was bland and flavourless and it was served in between two dry pieces of bread. Not cool, Fairmont. I thought the smoked duck would have been delicious but there was one very thin layer of smoke duck and you could barely taste the lingonberry. It was a disappointment. The pastries were nothing to write home about either. Although they were fresh and wonderfully crafted, they just weren't blowing me out of the water. I get it, it's only Afternoon tea Chan, chill out! But dude, this tea service is forty one dollars per person! Not bomb diggity at all! And then on top of that, it took us forever to get our bill. Once our pastries and sandwiches were dropped it felt like we were dropped off the face of the earth by our server. It took us over fifteen minutes to finally flag down a server and have her bring the bill over. Of course she was polite and sweet each time she touched the table, it was getting her to the table that was the problem. We clearly stacked our plates and were all out of tea but no one came by to offer more hot water or check up on us. I was almost ready to pull the top off my teapot but highly doubt they would get the reference (at dim sum/chinese restaurants, you pull of the lid of your teapot to indicate more hot water) In the end, we left disappointed, hungry and a little poorer. read more

We actually ended up eating at Rundle Hall/Rundle Lounge by accident. We had gone to The Banff Springs Hotel in hopes of having their ridiculously delicious brunch, but we hadn't made reservations and the wait was too long. We wandered around the corner and decided to try Rundle Hall. Boy am I glad we did! First of all, let me just say that the view was BREATHTAKING. We sat next to the window and overlooked the snow-capped mountains. We went outside to take some pictures and on one side you can get a beautiful shot of the hot springs, on another side you get a stunning shot of the mind-blowing hotel, and all around you get indescribable shots of the Rockies. The view was like something you would see on a postcard. It was unbelievable. Second of all, we were in a rush because we had a flight to catch and our server Alexandra was AMAAAAZING! She made it a point to offer us the best possible service, and let me tell you, she did! She was a big part of the reason that we had such a fantastic dining experience here and you can only be so lucky if you get her when you go! Third of all, the food was delicious!!! I ordered a pizza and my friend ordered the chicken curry and BOTH of them were incredibly tasty. The ingredients were fresh, the dishes were well made and the portions were generous. we were suppose to go skiing but ended up sleeping in so we stumble upon a castle to have lunch in. Everything here was great. You must try the sandwich selections! OMG and the seafood chowder is something else! I am forever CHANGED!! Also when you're done with lunch, walk around the hotel! Makes you feel like you're in a different time. They charge 3 dollars an hour for public Parking, by the way. read more
