Love this shop. Even more so then the great cuts from all the barbers (seriously they all can make you leave that place looking fresh), they look after their customers. Every time I come back from college they always check in with me at the shop, making sure my grades are straight and I'm doing well. On June 12, 2017, I went to Running With Scissors where I had an appointment with Al. I sat down in the chair and told him that I have had trouble finding a barber to cut my hair. I'm not sure why that is, aside from the fact that I'm female. He assured me that he could cut any type of hair and that he didn't care what gender I am. He asked me how short I wanted it, and I explained that while I have shaved my head before, I was looking for something a little longer this time. I asked him to taper it and leave the top a bit longer so that I could continue to style it. He said of course he could do that. Then he proceeded to turn me away from the mirror (which I didn't find unusual as the electrical plug for his clippers was on the far side of the station) and clip my hair with a number two guard. All of my hair. When he turned me back around, I was so shocked I couldn't say anything. He asked me if I wanted him to line everything up and at that point I figured he'd might as well try to make it look nice, since he'd disregarded everything I asked him for in the beginning. As we walked out, my kiddo made the remark that it wasn't what I had asked for, and all I could say was "I know. Maybe he thought he was being funny." It is now fully a month later and my hair is starting to grow back. It's just now to the point where you can't see scalp. My hair grows fast, so that should tell you how short it was when he did it. As I said, I've shaved my head before, but the last time I did it was right after I broke my neck, and I wasn't ready to go there again as I'm still trying to regain my femininity after being stuck in a hard collar. So, Al, whether you were trying to be funny or whether you're a bad barber or really whatever the reason was that you completely disregarded my wishes, I just want to say how completely unprofessional it was for you to do that. This review is way overdue but as I contemplate where to take my older son for a haircut, I'm reminded that I have to do my due diligence. I've been with my two boys to the shop. My husband has also attended and had been very happy with his haircuts there. It is well-kept. I've had both Dre and Al cut my older son's hair and Dre cut my (at the time) 2 y/o son. Al will pretty much do what you've asked and he's consistent. He is also professional and kind. My husband prefers going to Al. My kids are mixed. My husband is white. My older son's hair while straight is very coarse and thick. When I've taken him elsewhere people cut his hair as if he has regular straight hair which then gives him the appearance of having fur on the top of his his head. Both Dre and Al recognized the need for a fade and they've both done a great job. I prefer Al because he is more professional and patient. Dre tends to be a little more creative but appears to be good with little ones. I think for the most part both barbers are well-trained and love what they do which results in great hair cuts. HOWEVER... The reason for the four star as opposed to the possible five star is the following: My older son is on the spectrum (he has autism). Dre jokingly in front of some customers and me called my son a "bird" one day, which while I nervously giggled, broke my hear. The other customer found it humorous. I brushed it off as I didn't want to give attention to my son who was obviously oblivious to Dre's comments. My son can be very introverted and because he avoids the social context of a barbershop gets haircuts rarely and avoids eye contact as many with autism do, I'm the one who gives the barber instructions and while we're working on having my son advocate for himself it takes time. While Dre may not have known this information, there is NO excuse for that type of talk. He may have wanted to play comedy in front of me but he really doesn't know me enough to determine whether to get away with a joke or not. We have never gone back after that. My recommendation is to consider the following.... You will have different types of customers come and go especially with social media and the good reviews you get on Yelp. While you might not know what people come in with, I recommend that you maintain professionalism. While I've been highly entertained by the conversations at the establishment calling people names works well in a movie seen of "Barbershop" but not in real life. Nonetheless, I highly recommend the shop and it appears that the other barbers are well-liked! read more

My eldest who is 7 years old hates getting his haircut just as much as he hates going to the barber shop. Each experience has been traumatic for him from sitting in the chair down to the clippers. He had a bad case of barber shop phobia. Well yesterday when we visited this placed we had a wonderful experience, we were greeted upon arrival. Our appointment which we made online (convenient) was for 6:00PM we did however wait which is typical when visiting a barber shop (at least in my experience) so I did not mind too much. Once it was our turn I let my one year go first, distracted him with Elmo show on my phone. His cut must have taken 15 minutes which is pretty quick he even let him do a line. The oldest got in the chair our barber (Dr. Dre) as my mom called him did wonders with his cut. He was patient, professional and quick! Another huge plus is that there was ZERO profanity that was used here, when speaking with the owner (Dre) he mentioned that type of language is not permitted nor tolerated in the presence of children, he mentioned that all the barbers are family men, so they obviously they understand the importance of censoring yourself around the little ones. Which is a huge relief many of the barber shops I've visited either reeked of the smell of weed and profanity used all over. Not at Running w/ Scissors! I am so happy that we found a place that caters to our needs, had no idea I'd stumble on a place like such! I will definitely be returning. read more

Wow! I took my son here for a haircut for his birthday party. This place is great. If you have been to any of the barber shops in the dro, you know the deal. The barbers are not kid friendly and are mediocre at best. This guy was fantastic. Not only did my son get a fabulous star in his hair, but the guy was so pleasant to work with. He was young, fresh, and professional. The fact that you can make appointments online is the icing on the cake. Who wants to sit around and wait for two hours with a three-year-old and a seven-year-old? I saw the owner for their cuts. I call him Dr dre, he really is the Dr Dre of haircutting! I made an appointment with Joe and being that it was my first time I wasn't to sure about how I wanted to cut my hair but all I knew was I wanted a nice fade with my beard lined up. Found this place on yelp and I wanna say thank you yelpers. We've been going to headlinerz in Hayward but it's hard to get through to a person when we call and the walk in wait is ridiculous sometimes waiting there for 3 hours. My son needed a hair cut for his upcoming fight and after trying to make an appointment at headlinerz became so stressful I decided to look around for another barber. When I called this place someone picked up the phone on the second ring. Great!! He told me that he'll send me a website where I can make an appointment online for today. The site was easy to use and it showed some availability today, so since it was our first time coming we decided to go with the owner Dre. The shop is easy to find and parking was easy. It's a small barber shop with 4 chairs, looked cleaned. Dre did a great job on my sons hair, he took his time to get everything lined up correctly. Watching the other barbers cut hair I can tell that they knew what they were doing as well.
