I went for what I thought would be a quick car wash. I asked for the basic and kept saying no to the membership offer. I understand there is a script and they need to sell you a membership, but I said no about 5 times. What should've been a 30 second interaction turned into 5 minutes of me saying no and feeling intimidated. Workers need to take into consideration that sometimes customers don't want to talk, especially if the customer has social anxiety such as myself. I asked for the basic, and right before payment he said "you said premium, right?" With signs EVERYWHERE saying free vacuums/cleaning supplies you'd think it's actually free. Previously these amenities were free by what other reviews are saying. I was vacuuming/ cleaning the inside of my car when a worker came out and asked me if I'm a member and rudely said these are for members only. 1: no one told me. 2: the "membership only" text is so small you can't even see it. Behind all the bottles at the cleaning station it says it's for members only in a small font. It would be easier to read if it wasn't covered by spray bottles and brushes. The worker asked me if I spoke to John. Who is John?!?! Car wash sucked, had to wipe the whole car off because it didn't get clean whatsoever. Also a huge piece of the spinning brush from in the car wash was lodged between my passenger door. Avoid this place at all cost. Go to Splash near the high school. read more

The unlimited wash service is like $35 a month and worth it if you go more than 2x a month. The sad thing is that the machine washes here always leave soap / mineral stains on my car, even after I vigorously hand dry it. I'm gonna try Splash again and if I don't come out with stains, I'll cancel my membership. The Russell's team members are fantastic though, cool and helpful! I had to get out, march to the office to get the manager out to end it ... he tried to say it was a safety message which was bs.. then he admitted that corp has a hard sell policy and they are following a script... I have been coming to the same car wash location for about 40 years. It has changed ownership many times over the years. Each owner was very good with service and never tried to hard-sell the services that could be rendered. This is the one on Skiff Street in Hamden, CT. Now with the owners as Russell, the service is not to my liking. I tried the membership, but was misled on the monthly charge, so I cancelled it. I explained to the manager there about my dissatisfaction. Now every time I go just for a simple $11 wash, I have to hear time and time again about your service. I try to have him or her stop talking and just let me go in, but they will not stop! I went today and was told I had to be charged $17 because I used a vacuum. The attendant tried to upsell me and was way too elevated to even speak to. Flashed a sign with the prices, was scolded for not reading the signage as I drove in (previously the vacuums were free) and had a hard time listening to the word no. I was wondering why the people in the car next to me weren't vacuuming their car until I realized they must be trapped in the car wash since you have to stop and pay the attendant at the end. Previously you could drive through without having to stop. Definitely not worth the $17 that I had to over assert myself to pay only that fee. I would not recommend this place unless you're going to wash your car once a week each month, maybe the unlimited wash package could be argued worth it?!? Not me; never again. I like Russell because it is good value if you wash your car weekly and want to have a good place to service your interior with all the amenities readily available. I only wash my car a couple of times each year so the membership for me would be a waste. But each time I've gone I get the sales pitch on the unlimited membership. I explained that I only wash a couple of times a year and I don't need it but they keep going With the sales pitch. Today was the last straw... I went today to buy a monthly plan for car washes. The attendant started to pitch a hard sell. I requested several times to sell me the package I requested. Instead, he asked me to leave and go somewhere else because I was "talking over him!" I approached the manager about his rudeness, she said he has to give the sales pitch because he is audited. I used to get a car wash once maybe twice a month (during periods of snow) and each time the amount of time wasted saying no to membership is awful. I'm not there to argue back and forth on what will not save me money. I also used to use the vacuums, which previously were free and at most other car washes are free to use either after or before you get a wash. Found out they are for members only, which was confirmed when I called the company. $17 bucks for a wash that leaves residue since the soaps are not adequately rinsed off? Fine, whatever. Constantly, trying to upsell membership, I'll respect the hustle, but it's a deterrent every time I think of passing through for a wash. As many reviewers have stated, I waited through an interminable sales pitch despite reiterating several times that I only wanted the $11 wash, and the attendant insisted on continuing to try to upsell me. After the third or fourth time I asked for just the $11 wash or I would leave, the attendant hostilely accused me of being disrespectful - really?!. I very much wanted a good simple car wash down the street from my house. Instead the first and only time I go there is a young man who tried to upsell me 6-7 times. This is the first and only time a salesman rejected my statement, " I've made my decision, no". Then, he began to argue with me and continue trying to upsell me. At that point, I changed my mind and said "no I don't even want any wash I want my money back. If you can't accept my no, I don't want you to wash my car." I immediately asked for a manager. I asked for a full refund and I refused their service. I did get a refund and the place looks clean and new but that's the only good thing I can offer. Terrible value. I will never return. If they had any idea of decent service they would've at least apologized and offered some kind of amends. This place is a disaster. The staff is super friendly and inviting except manager Kyle. Make sure they harass you to sign up for the monthly pass then revoke it 6 months later because you won't stick the tag to your windshield. What a scam! So when they newly opened in Hamden. They were super nice I was able to use the vacuums and they even gave me a free car wash. HOWEVER this time I use the vacuums and when I got to the car wash they told me the minimum they could charge me was $17 because the vacuum is only for their VIP what??? Zero stars. Terrible experience. Terrible wash. I was especially curious about this new place after reading gushing press about the new wave of membership car washes. When I arrived I was trapped in a no exit line behind an attendant for about 10-15 minutes speaking to the person in front of me. As they did I read the board about their $35/mo unlimited wash membership which I was not interested in (lacking membership I was denied access to the self-vacuum areas but I didn't know that until I was trapped.) When I finally advanced to pay I politely stated that I was not interested in a membership and just wanted a wash. The attendant acted as if he didn't hear me and went into sell mode. I interrupted three times before I could get him to stop and run my car to let me in the car wash. Infuriating but I remained polite. The car wash was about half the length of others nearby and missed many spots on my car. Even if I was interested in washing my car every day, I don't think I'd find this place worth it. Plenty of other places in the same area that will thoroughly clean your car and with personal attendants for a hand finish... and for less money. read more
