Explained the coin that they give you to vacuum didn't work in any of the machines and after she refused to understand "keeping the coin" wouldn't do anything, it was useless dealing with her. When I come to this car wash either the machine for the credit cards is not working or the workers are incredibly rude. If you have a question they act annoyed and ignore you. Last time I went to get my car washed they used a hard bristle brush on the paint of my car. I got home and realized that my car was not even clean. Would not recommend at all, SAVE YOU MONEY!! I've never once come back to have the car re washed due it not being clean as normally they do a good job. There have been a few times where I could have been nit picky and come back but didn't. I've been going to this carwash for years... always considered them decent for a quick wash. But today was my last visit. I'll preface this by explaining that I'm in IT, with a specialization in "user experience". I say that to assure you that their new "user experience" is on a par with a Russian gulag or a prostate exam with a wire brush. You now enter via a lane that has an automated gate with a "control panel" that had to be designed by throwing a bunch of random pieces into a box and telling someone who was doing acid to think of the most insane instructions they could imagine. Instead of a tiny Post It note taped to the panel saying "Press HW to enter code", why wouldn't you have the huge screen in the middle display a message like "Touch Here To Start"? Good question! And why, when you have a huge screen staring you in the face, would you have the payment instructions appear on a microscopic display, with the sun shining right on it... on the card reader where no one will look? Speaking of the card reader, why not mount it where a person sitting in a typical car can reach it without dislocating their shoulder? I'll never know the answer because I'll never go back. Especially when I gestured for help from one of the employees and got a "pound sand, I'm busy" gesture in response. And last but not least... how about having a button somewhere to raise the gate if you want to escape this hellish experience and just leave? It was like "Escape From New York" with suds. Stupidest misuse of technology I've ever experienced. Whoever designed it should be fired instantly and banned from ever touching an electronic device again. Holy crap what a mess... read more

A great and convenient car service. I was in desperate need for a car wash and stumbled upon this service on my way to work. Very fast, friendly and efficient service. This service is very reasonably priced and in addition you can even get a discount on gas with every car wash purchased. One negative to the service is the confusion of the parking area. Especially once you come out of the wash to get your car fully dried and wheels cleaned, there is no one directing traffic or where you should go. They ripped me off. I paid for the ultimate wash which was like $18. When I got home I noticed my car wasn't shiny, no tire shine etc. and I drive a fairly new Audi so it should sparkle washed/polished. Won't go here again. read more

I've had a number of good experiences with Hamden Wash and Wax before. But today was the last time I'll turn to them to wash my car. It needed a wash on this cold January afternoon because earlier in the day I had to drive in three spots through salt water covering roads in coastal Branford. No problem, I figured; I knew how to prevent corrosion from all that salt water. I drove the car to Hamden Wash and Wax and paid for the most basic $10 wash rather than the usual more elaborate cleaning it has gotten there. But when the car had gone through HW&W's sequence of wash, rinse, and dry cycle and I had drive off (with other vehicles stacked behind mine), there was still very soapy water as well as dried soap scum on much of the body and most of the windows of the car. I looped back around and called out to the guy working the booth that the rinse cycle plainly hadn't worked properly. What were they going to do to rinse the car? He told me I could bring the car around again to go through the whole sequence again. But when I asked if that would mean soaping the car again, he said yes; I asked, why would the result be any different? He just shrugged and turned away. I went home and spent half an hour in our driveway rinsing the car and toweling it off. I won't be bringing any of our cars to Hamden Wash & Wax again. read more

I like the car wash but the owner Nick sucks. In January as I was going through the car wash the door came down and damaged my car. He told me that he was going pay for it to be fixed and put it in writing. To this day he has still not fixed my car. FYI if you look closely - it looks like some of the negative reviews on here are fake. I always have great service when I come here. My car is nothing special but they take their time with the inside (I have a very hairy dog who loves to go for rides). They also have a frequent customer card good for a free wash, offer coupons, and a rewash if it rains within a few days of your wash. With multiple options in the area, this place is my first choice to get my car washed. read more

I pass by this location every day but had never come here to get a car wash. Until I needed the chunks of snow and ice that were frozen solid in my wheel wells removed. I popped in on my way to work, and was pleasantly surprised. They sell gas at this location, offering good deals with a car wash package. They have a lot of vacuums pre-wash. There was no line, the guys are very good at getting your car done quickly. There is one guy I don't remember his name, but he was so friendly and very helpful! I paid for my wash service, I also got a sheet of coupons, as well as a frequent buyer card, and a token for the vacuum. Oh how I love free goodies!! I put my car through the wash, found the "scented wash soap" interesting.... Not really sure why one would need the soap to be scented when it gets washed right off, but hey! I can't complain. I also had the underbody wash which combined with the pre-wash managed to get off all the ice blocks from said car. My car came out spotless, and you can't beat the air dry at the end. And the best surprise at the end, was the hand dry by one of the guys!! No streaks!! I will definitely be visiting this place again. They take credit cards, and are open rain or shine. Anywhere else is better. This place is Grump City. Was told to bring car in the morning by manager. Showed up, and was greeted by an unhelpful, unfriendly OTHER manager who offered no help. There are plenty of other places who try to solve your problem with a smile. Best I've ever been to .If you give the guys a decent tip they were really take care of your car inside and out and only for $18. Best to go when not crowded as they will give you extra time including cleaning gum off your seats or tar off of your fenders. I highly recommend it and often go here in lieu of having an express wax or even full detailing elsewhere. read more

Seems like a decent wash. They offer detailing packages, I didn't use that, just the regular wash (mid-level package). It's partly done by a person with a brush, partly done by a large machine like many car washes use. It is not a touch-less/brush-less wash, so if you want that, their machine wash would not be for you. Their wash pads thump on your car pretty good, be aware. You'll get a token so you can use the vacuums for free after. read more

I've gone to Hamden Wash & Wax since they opened. The prices were awesome and the customer service was super. The last time I went, the back of my car didn't come out clean. Whatever. Today I went again and the guy doing the pre-wash (before you enter the tunnel) was arrogant and had zero customer service skills. He was condescending and rude. Okay, so the gas is pretty cheap. $2.68 with any wash over $8.99. They have 4 levels of basic washes and some detailing options. My car look clean, but I do question their actual car wash for its cleanliness. The pads looked like they had cleaned cars for years without ever being cleaned themselves and seem like they ilhit your car pretty hard. This might be a problem for old cars with rust or chipped paint I thought I'd give this place a try since it's close to where I live, but I think I'm going back to the touch free wash in Branford from now on. If this doesn't bother you, then more power to you! read more

I was there today and when it was inside the car wash I saw my wheel move a bit on its own and my SUV got off the track somehow. At this point, the car wash was stopped, the people came over and I immediately said "it swerved off the track" and they said in a rude suspicious tone "trust me, I know. Now keep it in neutral and don't press the brakes". I feel like an apology would have been better. I literally did not press anything. And my car was in neutral. The passive aggression was real. In fact, when I was sitting there I was busy texting a friend a picture of the giant typo on your sign. You know, the one that says "credit cards excepted" instead of "credit cards accepted". Anyway, my car is still wet since I couldn't properly complete the wash. Worst $8.99 I've ever spent. I could have washed it better with a toothbrush. read more

I went with 2 coupons. I wanted gas and a wash. I had bird poop on my windshield, the man at the window told me first he was not sure if they would get it all, then he said they will try. I Pumped gas and went back to pay I was told at that time that It should have been explained that you have to get a more expensive wash to get the discount on gas. I was pissed off I told him to cancel his car wash and here you can have all of the coupons I will not be back. I paid the more expensive gas. They didn't care that for about 80 cents they lost a Hamden resident customer for gas and washes from now on. What cheap people for me it was a matter of integrity. If you use their wash or gas be on the look out they make coupons and don't want you to use them and look for other things. read more

It's hard to screw up a car wash, but they managed. They knew it was broken but kept it open. Brushes on the right side weren't working, I only noticed when I had to fold out my mirror and it was obvious the right side of my truck had not been cleaned. When I asked for a refund they initially refused but admitted they knew the car machinery was broken. I paid 8.99 for a wash plus tire shine and when my car came out the wash the guy refused to shine my tires he told me you get it through the wash he didn't dry the door jambs or nothing i believe he was trying to hustle me for more money when he told me "I will do it for you ad a favor but 8.99 don't include tire ser ice" I was livid I left because I felt he was trying to hustle me that was first and last time there. read more
