    Crème brûlée

Menasha, Wi. Interesting setting, spacious with a high ceiling and what appears to be professionally appointed decor. Very nice, especially the bar with the rolling library ladder. We came in around 2:30 for late lunch/early dinner. We just went with water to drink because there were no mocktails offered, just soda's. My chicken pot pie was delicious, it had some very nice flavors from spices, or perhaps cheese. It was about 4 inches in diameter and cost $18. I got a side of salad that was a good size and tasted fresh. The horseradish dressing is excellent, be sure to try it. The shrimp and frites were not a winner for us. The style of cooking was more reminiscent of boiled shrimp rather than roasted as described. The large prawn like shrimp ended up with that somewhat tasteless meat that was just ok but certainly nothing I would ever order again. The saving grace of the shrimp was their large size and how meaty they were. Flavor was to be found using the dipping sauce, but the mushy texture was not to be disguised. The potato spears are very good and nicely cooked and come with an aioli. They are blue potatoes with good flavor. The crème brûlée was a failure. The.custard was overcooked and pasty with a texture I would equate with gritty applesauce. It was sadly shrunken. I did like the hint of orange though, it had potential before any recognizable feature of a custard ceased to exist. The coffee was a disappointment. I drank it because I needed a bit of caffeine. Unfortunately it was a flavored coffee that I quite simply detest.

Rusted Roost is a welcome addition for restaurants in Menasha. The place has a casual and relaxing ambiance. On a weeknight, our party of 4 was seated immediately. Service was attentive. A choice of soup or salad was part of the meal. I had the potato soup which was very good. For the main dish, I chose Pollo en crema, which was delicious. My wife had the Hunter's chicken. A 4 star rating was given as both portion sizes were less than desired.

Five of us get together monthly to try new restaurants or to revisit old favorites. June was my pick and I'd been eyeing the Rusted Roost Restaurant and Bar for a while. We arrived by 5:30 on a Thursday night. It's kind of dark and moody, cool vibe, with parking and a door in the back and also a door in the front and parking on Main Street in Menasha. Service was good, at the bar and at the table. The food a bit dry and disappointing. For example, the brisket Mac had maybe 2 oz. of brisket on top and not enough sauce to even coat the bowl. The chicken pot pie lacked the cream sauce mentioned in the description. I bought one round of drinks (2 double Hendricks and tonic, one glass of red wine, one glass of beer and one soda with a 21% tip.) We split a few appetizers before dinner. I bought the Beet Salad to share,, my dinner was the Fig and Brie Baked Chicken, and I ordered the bread pudding to go for dessert. I again tipped over 20% and my total for the night was over $130. We were happy to have tried it but don't see ourselves going back. UPDATE: I've learned since this post that the Rusted Roost has hired a new chef and revamped the menu. Watch for new reviews to see how it's going!

The food was excellent, we just had appetizers but the whole menu looked amazing. Ate dinner downstairs and then went upstairs to the rooftop bar for a drink. Loved the theme of the whole place and it was carried out everywhere from the pictures, to the salt and pepper shakers.

Ambiance and food are excellent. There can be a longer wait and they are a bit expensive.

We went to one of their limited dinner services. I had called the day before and reserved a table. When we were quickly seated at a table by the entrance, I admit being suspect of how our visit would go. The hostess asked if the table was alright and pointed out a heater by the table. Not only did it keep us warm, it made our table feel cozy. Despite it being very busy, I'd describe the restaurant as being a great place for a special date. Our waiter for the evening brought great energy. His timing was great and his knowledge of the food served was helpful. Without hesitation he suggested the Napolitana (which was phenomenal). He also made the restaurant less pretentious than I had assumed it would be and it definitely wasn't pretentious). We ordered the empanadas and beet salad as appetizers. Great picks and I'd return just to get the empanadas! As previously stated, I had the Napolitana. My dining partner has the quinoa bowl but added chicken to it. No complaints for either. We finished with two desserts suggested by our waiter. Although truly full from our meal, we polished off the tasty treats. I'm going back, just disappointed I've haven't visited it before now.

They're located in an old building along the main street in downtown. For lunch, they seemed to have a short list of items...and not really catering to a red meat eater like me. I picked the chicken pesto sandwich since I normally eat chicken sandwiches for lunch and opted for the house potatoes. Our waitress was very loopy and loud add seemed overly happy about her job. My colleague thinks she was yelling at us whem she spoke, but I believe that is just how some people talk. My chicken sandwich was good...but the chicken breast seemed like a machine formed patty and it was small. I was expecting something a little fresher, like a whole grilled chicken breast for the price. Instead, this seemed like a pre-made patty from a vendor they just heated up in an oven. The house potatoes were simple and pretty good though. They add cheese and herbs and spices to these to amp them up. I can't really speak for the breakfast or cocktail program, but their music was pretty good.

I don't know how often the menu changes, but it seemed clear that it did change. There is also a menu of wine, beer, and spirits available. I enjoyed excellent service from Claire and a truly exceptional meal consisting of the Scramble (duck egg, ramps, fingerling potatoes, and topped with crispy potato chips), Country Pate (toast points, stone ground mustard, pickled collard green stems and carrots, and fennel), and Smoked Ribs (corn bread with thyme butter and collard greens)! I loved the vibe of the place, which made it seem like a casual bar with decent bar food. I did not expect the high level of quality dishes I saw on the menu, which followed through to the plate compositions, and then onto my palate! There wasn't a single disappointing bite in any of the three dishes I ordered, which were all from the small plate/appetizer section of the menu under "Colds" and "Hots." The Country Pate board was a perfect start, and the Ribs are smoked in their outdoor smoker, providing a slight smoky flavor and very tender meat. Ribs are served over delicious collard greens and with a side of cornbread and thyme butter. I tasted an herb in the cornbread and forgot to ask, but it may have also been thyme, or just my imagination. The cornbread wasn't moist, but also wasn't dry, and it had the crumbly texture one looks for in cornbread. I did not expect to taste collard greens this good in Neenah. The Scramble was absolutely perfect! You can tell from the photo how perfectly the duck eggs were cooked. There were fluffy and flavorful, and they were served over sliced fingerling potatoes, and then topped with crispy housemade potato chips. I wanted to order more, but I was satisfied, and it was getting late. I still had a 90 minute drive back home and work the next morning. If you're anywhere Neenah, I highly recommend you eat here!
