Been a resident of the Valley for 3 decades; however, last night was our first visit to The Old Grog. We had heard good things about their chicken and decided to give it a try with friends. It has an old school, Wisconsin neighborhood tavern feel to it. Standard bar with dining room setup. We were waited on promptly by our server. She was pleasant and helped make our initial visit a success. We started out with hand-muddled old fashioned drinks. Very good. Followed it up with their variety basket of appetizers. Also solid. Two of our party had the broasted chicken with broaster potatoes. Great taste and very good chicken. The other members of the group had steak sandwiches. Filling and also very tasty. We Stopped by on a whim around 11am on a Sunday. Happen to have a great special going. Best Broasted chicken I have Ever had. Came with mashed n gravy, stuffing, cran sauce and a nice soft dinner roll. So much food that we both took home half for the next day. Considering it was 8.50 a plate...breaks down to 4.25 per meal. Cool, clean old building. Can't wait to go back. Can't wait the try the steak or Prime rib sandwich. There were the specials on other days. First visit at the old grog last night. Our party of 4 was in the mood for a fish fry so thought we try it out. The Bar setting is nice, bartender with the tattooed hands not so much. Asked for a vodka soda club with a splash of cranberry and a lime. No lime in my drink so I asked if I could have a cherry instead. I was instructed I was going to have to wait. Ok... I can wait... no big deal... the same thing happened to my dad when he asked if they had IPA beers. If I wanted to get treated like crap after a long work week id just go back to work. We were told they didn't have a table in the dining room 5 min later they did but we wanted to finish our drinks before sitting down for dinner. We ended up sitting at a table at the bar and the other bartender served us at our table. She was nice, smiled, and was attentive. Bluegill was good but I question if it was actually bluegill they were large fillets and a nice size portion of fish for the double my husband and I split. I suggest instead of telling customers they are just going to have to wait, just say I'll be with you in just a moment or yes we have an IPA I'll get you a list. We were in no hurry. We had wings which were delicious, both the naked kind and the type they breast like their broasted chicken dinner on Sundays. Service was great, the bartender and waiters were super nice and friendly which makes more a fun and upbeat atmosphere. Definitely a spot for locals but with it being our first time we were welcomed in and will definitely be back. I had looked up places to go for food and drinks before I left North Carolina, because the town of Menasha is super small in Wisconsin, and the options were limited. The reviews on Yelp are pretty good so this is where I decided to take my niece for her birthday. When we entered the bar the patrons and employee were nice which is comforting because we added "diversity" to the scene and I was slightly nervous. Many of the tables were "reserved" but we were able to still snag an unreserved one. We ordered drinks and food with the waitress. It became pretty packed quickly. The food came out in reasonable timing. I ordered shrimp and gill (fish) with a salad and my niece ordered a plain steak burger with fries and pretzel sticks. The presentation was spectacular and the taste matched. I was disappointed that chicken wings weren't available since seafood was being prepared. The waitress was stretched thin across the dining area so it took a while to get a refill but she did come back to check on us. I paid for songs on the "Touch Tunes" but the volume was so low that we couldn't hear the music. That was such a waste. Overall I would come back here to Old Grog & sit at the bar to enjoy food & drinks again! read more

This is my second time here while visiting folks in Wisconsin. We appreciated that the staff is still masked and has diners distanced as much as possible. We were starving so we have no complaints about the food. But there was only one very friendly and apologetic server taking and delivering orders and a definite delay in service. My go to is the Steak Sandwich but I certainly can recommend the burger, hot beef, stadium burger and all of the starters will please your belly! The soups are a delicious starter as well. Passed through town on a Sunday afternoon. We wanted to try another well rated "grill" for burgers, alas it was closed. So, I Google nearby restaurants for a good burger and "the old grog" came up. We stopped. The atmosphere is genuine WI grill and bar, updated facilities with super friendly service. Burgers and ground sirloin steak sandwiches are cooked to order, almost as big as the plate (which are meant to be folded over in your bun), loaded with raw or grilled onions and pickles. I have been to The Old Grog 4 days in a row now. The goal here is to complete the menu in its entirety. That is, unless, I am let down. So far so good. I started out with "The Grog Basket". It contains a plethora of deep fried foods such as jalapeños, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. It was really good. You get the choice of two sauces, these are located next to the wing selection on the menu. For what you get, it's a touch pricey but not terrible. I then ordered a pizza burger to boot. I left full. The second day I had the Prime Rib sandwich. This thing was fantastic. Filled me right up! Totally worth trying out. The third time was a Friday. I could not pass up the fish fry! I chose the pike. Though in the back of my mind I was thinking bluegill. The Pike was on point! It came with rye bread, tarter sauce butter and fries. I would do that again if it it didn't set me back a day. Which leads me to the fourth visit. They only serve fish on Fridays, as a heads up. The fourth time did set me back a day. It was Saturday. Guess what the special was? The prime rib sandwich! And yes I did order it again. Who could pass up that sandwich for 7 bucks. About the Prime rib. You will need to fold it over the bun. It's not a small piece of meat. It is served on a Manderfield bun, choice of raw or fried onion and is served with an au ju dip. Today will be my fifth day. I figure by the end of next month I will have completed the menu read more

This place is fantastic. I have spent weeks trying to make this new town my home, and it's been hard. Especially coming from Chicago. The small town, friendly vibe hasn't existed, and I get along with everyone. I stopped here after an exhausting weekend/ day at the park to rest my feet and my mind. They not only served the most delicious $8 chicken I've ever had, but treated me soooo kindly and welcomed my baby. (Not the most ideal location for a baby, but no one flinched). Joe is fantastic and such a kind, hard working guy. It's always the dives that pleasantly surprise me. And I'm thrilled to have a neighborhood place for very good, cheap food. read more
