This is a lovely quaint establishment. The setting is very peaceful. We stayed in the Spooner Cottage which was in the back near a small picnic area and horseshoe pit. You can walk up the side street just a little ways and get to some easy hiking/dog walking trails. We wandered for over and hour on paths that even entered the National Forest land. Our cottage was a little dated and perhaps could use some work, but it was exactly what I expected for a place called "Rustic Cottages". We had a full kitchen with cookware and dishes, a small inside table and a nice porch with more seating. It is a good central location for side trips - we cruised the CA side down to Tahoe City and farther down to several State parks for a full day. The next day we went to the Nevada side for some short hikes. If you are easy going and not looking for the Biltmore, this is a lovely place to stay and just relax and enjoy nature. read more

Four of my friends and I just spent a wonderful weekend in North Lake Tahoe and stayed at Rustic Cottages. We had gone on the recommendation of some friends and could not have been more happy with the stay. We didn't reach Tahoe so til a little after 10pm, and the gentleman checking us it was so sweet and friendly. He asked if it was a special occasion and I told him we were here celebrating my birthday a little early. We had booked the Oregon to stay in (One bedroom with two double beds and a day bed). After leaving to get the key, the gentleman came back and told us he was going to upgrade us to a larger space! We ended up staying in the Snow Creek Cabin. It was a two bedroom two bathroom, with a deck AND hot tub. We could not have been more thrilled! The resort itself is adorable. There are little touches like homemade brownies, toiletries, and breakfast each morning. All of these things are completely free! All the staff we came in contact with were amazing too! We actually stumbled on this place through an old friend named google. This place has smaller cabins with all the amenities. It's a good mix of roughing it and having everything you need to live. The kicker to this place is the staff. Every morning we got to sit in the central dining room and have waffles and later in the day they had fresh cookies and brownies. We stayed at Tahoe Vista Lodge & Cabin is part of Rustic Cottage Resort. All check-in must be done at Rustic Cottage & Resort. We stayed at the Rubicon cabins for 3 nights until Jan 1st 2011. It has kitchen with dinning table, 1 queen bed in separate bedroom and I pull out bed in the living room. The room is very small and there is not shower tub in the bathroom which was indicated in the website so make sure you check carefully before making any reservation. The hot water was not consistent so occasionally you get very hot and cold water during shower which is my only complain. They have free breakfast at the lodge and we love the waffle. The staff Christina is very friendly and she help us with making of the waffle. It was so delicious and we can stop going back there for breakfast. We have always stayed at South Tahoe and it was a great experience here in North Tahoe where the cabin are cute and very cosy. These cabin looks amazing with the snow and the colorful decoration lights. read more

We went from camping to Rustic Cottages. Staff were very accommodating and meet "all" of our needs and there were many. Our little cottage was very very clean, comfortable and cozyWe were excited to have a full kitchen and all the necessities for cooking and grilling. OMG! Let me just start off by saying I've never experienced such amazing hospitality! We visited this place in blind faith after having the worst experience trying to rent a cabin off of Airbnb. With that being said, we struck gold! This place has so many amenities provided for your stay, starting with freshly baked goodies and brewed coffee once you walk into the front office to the plethora of toiletries you can get at any time of the day and ending with the delicious continental breakfast. That's just the amenities! Let's get into the cabin, there's so much comfort and privacy in such a small space. We (my husband, myself and another couple) rented out the Edgewood cabin which had one king, two day beds, one restroom, kitchen and dining room. There was plenty of room for all four of us to fit comfortably. The space was very clean and had heat, hot water and a working fireplace as well as all the dish-ware you may need. This place was luxurious in the most rustic of senses, located directly across Moon Dunes beach that can be easily accessed. The cabins are surrounded by beautiful pine trees and views of the white-capped mountains. Honestly, just book this place already! read more

Loved this place! We chose it due to the dog-friendly nature of the establishment, and we were not disappointed. Upon checking in, I smell fresh baked cookies, which are complimentary to guests. They asked about our dog, and were very friendly to him when I took him for a quick walk around the grounds. We stayed in the smallest cottage they have, for $84/night, plus the $20 dog fee. The cabin is definitely small, but it was warm and comfortable. I could make myself a cup of tea and relax, as my boyfriend finished up skiing. We had a crate for Jake, so there was no problem leaving him in the room while we went to dinner. I loved the complimentary waffle breakfast. They also had homemade muffins, juice, etc... Overall, I found the staff very friendly. Our cottage, for the price, seemed just right. I liked the character of the room, with an outside deck with a table and chairs. They had a nice binder with a list of dog-friendly beaches, activities, etc... We typically stay in South Lake, but I was so happy to find an accomodating, reasonable place in North Lake. Dog Owners Take Note: 5 stars! This is a great place for folks who travel with their dog(s). For $40 extra our two mutts could stay in our cottage with us. Minus one star though... no dog accoutrements (although there was a kitchenette - no dog bowls - we brought our own but it would have been nice to have one extra as we did forget one) Also no poop bags anywhere...so we had to improvise with papertowels. Also - no bath stuff, we found out later that we had to go to the main desk and ask for it. A bit unusual but okay. Also no hairdryer (well they did say "rustic") Bottom line - we had a very clean and comfy stay and the folks here are super friendly. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. Major Plus - Yummy hot breakfast of waffles, juice and coffee in the morning in a charming home on the property. It was a super way to kick start our day. read more

This place is great. I have many reasons to write this - from the kind staff, delicious breakfast, free movie rentals, and quaint accommodations, Rustic really tries to help you have a great time. I actually booked a lot of these cabins - and the related houses (awesome) - for my wedding in the middle of September. Most of my family and wedding party stayed here, and I didn't hear a peep of complaint from anyone. Kathy and her crew really try to make sure your needs are addressed, and I felt it was a great place close to the Lake (across the street!) so my family and such could enjoy the outdoors and still have a cozy place to stay without driving. Plus, walkable to Captain Jon's, a great water-side seafood restaurant, where we had our rehearsal dinner. This is not the Ritz. Expect cozy cabins which provide the facilities for a good nights' rest and the ability to prepare your own meals (Safeway down the street! SO close!). I also like that there is a range of prices for cabins, so you can pick and choose. Do beware that the beds are on the smallish side, no Kings for you tall people. Also, be sure to talk to someone at the desk to decide which cabin will suit you. We will be back, perhaps for an anniversary or a wintertime retreat. read more

We really enjoyed our weekend getaway here. The cottages are directly off a main thoroghfare; so, if you can, pick one of the cottages further back by the main offices. They offer nice amenities and a good breakfast in the mornings in a quaint little gathering room. Rooms are not spacious, but perfect if you are going to be more active and spend a lot of your time out and about on hikes and such. They offer free movies and popcorn and always have little snacks on hand for you if you're hankering. read more

We had a great stay here, and wish we could have stayed longer. The cottages are aptly named - they are rustic - but they are clean and as the other reviews have noted the customer service here is great. I loved all the little touches, from fresh baked cookies, to lemonade in the afternoon. The property is meticulously maintained, and if you go in the summer, you can take advantage of the croquet or horseshoes. I also agree that if you are a light sleeper, or have the option of choosing a cabin, selecting one at the back of the property would be the way to go. We were up front and the traffic noise from the street was very noticeable until after midnight on a Friday. LOVE that they are pet friendly. We'll be back. read more

This is the second time I've stayed here. The first time we didn't have a fireplace. Splurge for the fireplace...especially in the winter. It kept the entire unit toasty even though we kept it at 60 degrees at night. Plus it's controlled by the wall thermostat so it's very user friendly. Continental breakfast is tasty. Waffles, eggs, ham, sausage and delicious homemade muffins. Plus coffee, OJ, and cereal. They don't open til 730ish so if your an early riser bring your own coffee (pot and filters provided!). If you're skiing, have an alternate plan. read more

The cottages are clean and comfortable. It's not a posh hotel, but as long as you can do without mints on the pillows (they're in a jar at the front desk, actually), you will enjoy your stay here. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Breakfast (included) was amazing - great coffee and yummy waffles. They are also dog friendly. Three Labrador retrievers were in our party and they were made to feel very welcome too. Great experience! I booked this place based on yelp reveiws and I very happy with my decision. We stayed in the oregon cottage, quaint but good. My two year old loved the croque set and beach across the street. If you are looking for easy and old Tahoe feel, book a weekend. Close to all the beaches and restaurants. I was most impressesed withe service - Kathy and Jennie were great! I met Marshall, the owner, and thanked him for a great stay. If you need ice or a beach towel loaner - they are happy to help. My family and I reserved a total of 4 cottages on October 27th for the Xmas holiday. I reserved two cottages myself and my mom reserved two cottages herself. On October 28th, I got a call from the same guy who took my reservation telling me that the cottages would be closed for the winter due to COVID. This makes sense because Tahoe is actually supposed to be closed under local ordinance. I didn't think anything of it. I just felt bummed out, thanked him for his time, and went about my day. Come January, my mom discovered full charges on her card for the two rooms she booked and for no-showing. Both her and I spoke to Nicole about this. Nicole said she couldn't do anything and that her accountant would have to take a look at things. That was 2 weeks ago. Today, my mom called Nicole again and Nicole said the same thing. We believe that this business called us to tell us our reservations would have to be cancelled, not banking on us questioning it, double booked the room, and actually made twice the amount of money off of it because they're strapped for cash from COVID. We will be reporting this business to the Better Business Buraeu and if we have to, we will get attorneys involved until my mom's changes are reversed. read more

Rustic Cottage Resort is absolutely amazing! The location was incredible as I am an immense tree/outdoors lover. The hospitality was so welcoming. My fiancé and I instantly felt comfortable with the staff, especially Monica. She is just simply the best, having made our stay feel at ease. She was extremely helpful with us by pointing us in the right direction when it came to activities to do in Tahoe. The resort was so kind enough to upgrade our cottage for free because they knew we were there to celebrate our anniversary. The cottage was so cozy and felt home-like. We did not want to leave! We were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. We had the Yosemite cottage, which was comfortable and cozy. Yeah, it was bare bones, but it was clean and amply equipped. After many years, 15 plus, of staying at Rustic Cottages we (a family and friends group of typically 8 - 10 cabins per year) we were told it's time to move on. We were condemned because of legitimate Covid cancellations in 2020. Also after what was thought to be a great owner/guest relationship through the years, I was called a d*** and an a**hole and told I had treated the owner like s*** for the last 10 years. No idea where this came from. My family and friends loved the year to year Fourth of July celebration there and put forth alot of effort to decorate the cabins which was very well received by all guests on the property. We are truly all baffled by this and cant quite wrap our heads around it. We brought alot of business to this property for alot of years and have been severely insulted. He said "it's time for you all to move on, we dont want you here any more". I'd advise staying somewhere were the insults and rudeness aren't spoken without merit and so easily. We truly won't miss this place at all now. On to better places! read more

We stayed here on a weekend trip with our pup to support family who were racing in the Ironman. When you book make sure you check that the cabin available is a dog friendly one, if traveling with your pup. We stayed in one of the smaller cabins (Glenwood) and while it was a tight squeeze for 2 adults and a dog it was incredibly cozy and met our needs / budget. There really wasn't any room to move around but we were ok with that considering we were out for the majority of the day. The place is located across the way from the water (but no dogs allowed on the beach) and right on the course where Ironman cyclists raced through. Breakfast included eggs, sausage, and ham with coffee. Simple but hearty enough to kick off the day. I loved that you could get bedtime tea such as chamomile tea as well as brownies or cookies at reception. It was surely a nice touch. read more

4 1/2 Stars actually. This it is not a 5 Star place really, hence the name "Rustic". We are here now on Christmas night. We like it and are planning to come back. We rented the Alpine which says sleeps 4. We are a family of 3 and it works nicely. Gives some area for my daughter to run around in.But 4 big guys staying here would be cramped. Very clean and well kept. Ya the iron chairs suck but we use the couch cushions for the seats. People are friendly and we save a lot of money having a kitchen and free breakfast. This place is fantastic. Small little places perfect for a couple wanting to stay in North Lake Tahoe. A quick grab egg/bacon breakfast and a true rustic feel. This place has great history and it's not some renovated motel or some big cash rip off. If you are looking for the hot spot or jumping bar then go to South Lake. Its Rustic and quiet on the North side and Rustic Cottages is a great place for the price. There are people who live on site and provide great service.
