Cottage time

Beautiful cottage! It was our first time at lake Tahoe and decided to spend Christmas here. Cabin was what we expected and more. It was clean had everything grime pots and pans to wine glasses. They even provided dish soap and laundry soap. The cabin had a side yard that sloped down so we didn't need to leave for the kids to go sledding. Conveniently a safeway is right down the street. As long as you clean and leave the cabin the way you got it you get your deposit. I Definitely would recommend

What a special place! We enjoyed ourselves so much and we will definitely be back! We stayed at the "Spooner" cottage and it was perfect for us and our 7 month old Golden Retriever who is my Service Dog in Training. The staff and owners were beyond nice and accommodating. The hot breakfast was so delicious, I can still taste those scrumptious Belgian Waffles and sausage! Thank you Rustic Cottages!

I lucked out & got to spend my birthday here. We arrived on the day they officially opened after being closed due to Covid-19. This time we stayed in the Bijou, one of the smaller cottages. Was perfect for my husband & I and our pup. They are still providing evening snacks (cookies & brownies) and breakfast. Now you don your mask, order your breakfast & eat outside or in your cabin. I thought the staff should have masks on, especially the one cooking & serving food. There was a juvenile bear roaming around but we didn't see it at all. The beach across the street is open but is still not pet friendly.

This place is awesome. Clean and cozy. Exactly what I was looking for. Kitchenette was a nice touch.. Great price and close to Northstar, Alpine Meadows, Incline and Donner Ski Ranch. Family run un by Marshall Tuttle and his wife. Free movies, free coffee mugs! Pets welcome!

The time spent at this fabulous place was just too short. The mug brings back a nice memory.

The cottages were an amazing getaway crap short weekend trip away from Los Angeles. The setting was very relaxing the room was comfortable and the bed made you want to sleep in all morning. If you're in the area you have to check this place out

Rustic Cottages is one of the best places my family and I stayed. Family friendly and pet friendly. The room was wheelchair accessible after we shoveled the walkway. The booking process went well the receptionist went above and beyond to find a room that was pet friendly could fit our kids and 86 year old grandma. The stay was great then I forgot my purse in the closet Ann packaged it wonderfully and put the change receipt of shipping my key were also attached. So wonderful! Thank you so so much.

AVOID UNIT 3 MANAGED BY GRAND WELCOME. Walls and carpet are dirty, the oven and internet/wifi did not work upon arrival - it took two days to fix them and another two days to get bathmats. We made two contacts over four days about mice in the unit before help arrived. I spent too much of my vacation time cleaning what should have been done before we arrived. Location & Grounds: The setting is incredible, well-maintained, and hard to beat. Units & Amenities: Unfortunately, the units haven't changed much over the years, especially considering what they charge. The mattresses are very uncomfortable, the TVs barely work, and many of the amenities feel outdated. The sauna never seems to get hot enough, and I've always wondered why a hot tub has never been added, it would be a great improvement. We also found that basic supplies like toilet paper were very limited. This property has so much potential, and with some updates to the units and amenities, it could easily be a five-star experience. My entire family feels the same way. We love coming here and hope the owners invest in modernizing the accommodations to match the incredible location.

There is a private beach for lake activities and only 15min from Northstar ski resort. Safeway grocery store is less than 1/4mile away and lots of restaurants close by. Unfortunately there is only one parking space per unit and any additional cars must be parked off the property. There is trash and towel service twice a week. Laundry facilities are free but there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers for the entire property. Detergent is $2 and can be purchased at the front desk. Because of a snow storm we could not make it on the first day and arrived late on the second day. The staff at the front desk (Erin, Kelly, Kailee) were all accommodating with the late check-in process and texted instructions on how to retrieve our card keys since the office close at 6pm.

Bed, even though a Murphy is quite comfortable. Having your own assigned parking spot is super convenient. After hours check in was straight forward & easy. The private & protected swim/kayake launch area is great. BBQ's are plentiful & work great. Loved watching the sunrise & sunset from the pier. Had a great time playing ping pong. Full kitchen is stocked & great for preparing meals. The not so great: Temperature in the room runs warm, no matter what you do. We left most windows open 24/7 & were still warm - even with snow outside. To complicate that - leaf blowers...run all day long. Do they carry around extra batteries? No joke - from 8am to after 5pm, it doesn't stop. When you have to leave windows open to not boil in the room - the noise from the leaf blowers = nousicance. The pillows are crazy full. Make your neck hurt firm. I ended up filling my own pillowcase with a small blanket I brought. If you trade through II, for a sleeps 2 privately/with a kitchen - that's exactly what you get. A room with a kitchen in it. It's pretty intimate to co-habitate for a week together. We did ok but it would be awkward if your not super close/familiar with each other. $25 a day "resort fee", no matter what the season & no matter what type of room you have. No kayakes, no pool - doesn't matter = $25 a day. We won't be back, unfortunately. Might be better in a larger unit during a different time of year.

After talking to her about those things, she kicked us out, which was fine. We booked rooms at the Plumpjack Inn in Olympic Valley (dog friendly ) on 20 minutes notice, which cost less and which turned out to be wonderful. My mother, elderly, generously reminded us that aging isn't always pretty, that she's probably in over her head at this point, and suggested we call the county Dept. on Aging, so they can check on her. They were lovely and will visit her.

We came up form Lake Elsinore and arrived early at 2pm and showed up to ask if we can sit on the deck outside to wait for the room to be ready at 3pm. The owner claimed we were trying to intimidate her by showing up early and that's now she lost the check in documents. When trying to explain why we were early the hotel owner quote said "Bullshit, I don't' have time for Bullshit." The hotel owner is an older person that was not considerate, kind, or caring. Upon having issues with check in and while I was trying to provide her the documents SHE lost, she said quote "I'm happy to see you're having problems. It makes me feel better about mine." However as I continue to try to solve the problem she then went on a rant of her problems running the hotel all alone but she's German and survived WW2, had a 10 million dollar personal value, but how men are all chauvinistic pigs, and how running the hotel at her age is "all too much". I also found out she is the only person caring for the hotel which is why bugs, and cobwebs are everywhere, screens are missing from windows, and the hotel generally looks unmaintained or cared for. There is no AC in the room. The furniture is below Motel 6 value. My girlfriend went to ask for clean sheets because they smelled musty like they were on the bed or in storage for months, the owner responded "What am I God?" and fought with her. The website for the hotel is also out of date. There are no paddle board classes offered and the dock is not safe to launch from with a kayak. The water level is too low and you have to walk over rocks (I got cut). In short if you're looking for a disappointment go here, otherwise save your money and your vacation and choose a motel 6 instead. The owner does not care if you enjoy your stay or not, and from what she's said most likely enjoys it when you do not.

I was an also a little disappointed that there wasn't an open lobby for checking in; everything for our stay was handled by phone. It was also a little weird to have to walk downstairs from the parking lot to our room, but it was fine. That said, our room was poolside and we also had a view of Lake Tahoe out our sliding glass door. All in all, for the great price we got I really can't complain. It's a great option--and walking distance to Pep's for breakfast is a big plus.

My husband booked this place with the plan that he was going to go to the concert and stay over with his friend Tomas. He is a flake so I was worried he would do it to poor Joey so I was fully prepared to take his place (if he flaked) and I knew he would so my outfit was ready to be packed! When it was confirmed he was once again flaking out I looked it up online.I figured how bad it could it be if it's part of Holiday Inn...But it's not when you check out the spelling. It's a family owned place and the owner was delightful. I brought my bed bug detector to this place... All clear. This is a pet friendly hotel so that was nice we were able to bring our beloved dog Sawyer and they only charge $10 per night, good deal. The room itself was around $200 per night which is right in line for this area. I mean it's the Tahoe Basin. It was actually to separate rooms with a full bed size in each. I want to mention that the room was very, very clean, this is probably my number 1 priority for any property I stay at. The bathroom was recently renovated so it was nice. I cracked up at the "amenities" they had; the most terrible snob in me...pics below :) The blankets were pretty thin so we had to keep the heat up since it was a cold tahoe night. The hotel/motel situation in this area has really evaporated with the closure of the Biltmore, The infamous Cal Neva and the Crystal Bay has a limited amount of rooms, a lot of places are boarded up it's pretty sad to see. The only negative ( but not hotel's fault) was a small dog was locked in a massive red truck and barking its head off. We arrived @ 4 pm and it was going on and on until 12 midnight when we arrived back from the concert. SHAME on those people for that abusive treatment of that poor puppy.

Thankfully I remembered considering the Stevenson's Holliday Inn since they were the only other pet friendly establishment I had found. Walked down the street and talked to the manager about availability, sure enough they had a room and were able to offer it to us. Our daughter immediately was excited to jump into bed after camping for a couple nights.
