This place is fantastic. Small little places perfect for a couple wanting to stay in North Lake Tahoe. A quick grab egg/bacon breakfast and a true rustic feel. This place has great history and it's not some renovated motel or some big cash rip off. If you are looking for the hot spot or jumping bar then go to South Lake. Its Rustic and quiet on the North side and Rustic Cottages is a great place for the price. There are people who live on site and provide great service. OH my Goodness, the waffles here are amazing!! There is no better way to get ready for a long day on the slopes than to fill up on some homemade waffles (which you make yourself!). We stayed in the Manzanta Cottage. I was kinda of disappointed because although it is supposed be rustic, it was really dark and primative. The kitchen was so narrow and small, and old. The carpets were dirty and the beddings were kind of iffy. But the location was great! The whole complex reminds me of a throw back of the 50's from the movies. Wholesome fun for kids, adults, and pets... The cabins are located across the street from the lake and the grocery store is just a few minutes walk away. This is a great place for an affordable accommodations but I think we just had the wrong cabin for our tastes. We peeked in our neighbors' cabin and they were way better! We will come back but use another cabin. read more

Stayed here for a couple of nights two years ago. The Cute and cozy Cottage was great for a getaway for two! We would have camped but I do not do good with the cold. We had an electrical fireplace in our cottage and that thing worked great! This place is also pet friendly we brought with us our dog who was not even a year old at the time. In the front is a large grassy area with picnic benches and the main office has a large area and a spacious porch with tables and chairs. We went on a walk around the back of the property and to a beautiful meadow. Parking was available right in the front of your cottage and a small but scenic patio to enjoy your free breakfast, coffee and free coffee mug! read more

Great place to bring your dog. Kathy is super nice. We have stayed there over the years, and the staff is really helpful. If you want to bring your dog, you can bring him on a leash outside and walk him. The location can't be beat. Right near the beach, and some cabins have lake views. Breakfast is fun. You can make your own waffles. Brownies and cookies are waiting for you at the office whenever you want. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Such a mom and pop feel. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming to us upon arrival! They offer an array of complementary supplies and beverages as well as breakfast. The room was a little dated but it still felt like a clean and cozy cottage. BIG BONUS for us was that they offered certain cottages that were PET FRIENDLY and in addition the prices were very comparable to hotel rooms. Such a great alternative! Just got back this morning from the rustic cottages. The staff was super friendly and our room had a very im in the woods feel. For the price I couldnt ask for anything more. We stayed in the crystal room which has a hottub bath. I had my honey pick up some bubble bath and we definatly took advantage of a soak after hitting the slopes all day snowboarding. Our little bambooska was more than welcomed which is very important. You can see the lake across the street which was cool for my smoking breaks. This place is great for what you're looking for. It's a small cottage across the street from Lake Tahoe. It is pet friendly. Some previous reviews complained about the chairs not being comfortable enough. I guess they missed the Rustic part of the name. The metal chairs by the small dining table work great for 20-30 minutes of dining time. They are not for lounging for hours, but not sure why you would lounge in a cottage chair for hours in Lake Tahoe. They have free home-made brownies and chocolate chip cookies which are amazing!!!!!! They also have a list of DVD's and VCR tapes, yes VCR tapes to rent for free while you are there. The free breakfast is ok. That is the only thing keeping this place from being a 5/5 rating. Upon arriving at the Rustic Cottages, we were greeted by the very friendly Kathy (sorry if misspelled) in the cozy front office. I noticed that they only charged me for one of my dogs so I let her know, but she said not to worry about it. She showed us all the goodies that are complementary as well as some nearby places to go to that are dog-friendly. She also mentioned our original booked cabin, The Bijou, may be a bit small for us and two dogs. We checked it out and I thought it was perfect and very cozy. My boyfriend thought he would just go check with Kathy about any available cabins that had a bit more room. She told him we could pay for the second dog and she would just check us into the Spooner. The Spooner was perfect! Set back behind the front cabins and a great little yard area for the dogs, it was more than we expected! Inside it has two beds, kitchen with appliances, and a bathroom. The wood burning fireplace was amazing along with the TV and endless options they have for movie rentals. We are excited to try out the complementary breakfast but already know it will be exquisite like everything else about Rustic Cottages. Cozy, quiet, and convenient, this place is awesome. Most of all, the amazing people that work here exceed friendly, ideal hospitality you would get elsewhere. Will definitely come back! Can't wait to come in Summer. read more

We have been coming here every year since a friend told us about this little gem in 2008. The cabins are cute, clean and very affordable. Each cabin has an adorable "rustic" feel to it. We love that it is right across the street from the beach! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They have a delicious, complimentary breakfast served hot, every morning. Romance Notes: Gas Stoves in all Rooms and Cozy Plush Beds with private patios decked out with Grills and Romantic Swings. Literally a hop skip and jump to the Lake. 10 minutes from Tahoe City (Rosie's Cafe) or 10 minutes to Incline Village (ChaChing, Casino's). Fantastic Pricing and the owners ROCK! Marshall is an owner who truly cares and the Inn Keeper up the Road at Tahoe Vista Lodge is a gem of a host. She and her husband always make us feel welcome. I stayed here with my sisters on March 19th, 2011 (wicked storm that weekend!). I told my husband we should come back in the summer months (only because I am not a winter gal) and take our dog. I loved the rustic atmosphere of these cabins, and the fact that they are very pet friendly (my sister and her fiancee have 3 dogs, and they were on the trip too!) was such a plus- and even though it was terribly cold outside, the heater inside worked so great you couldn't tell. The only downside was the morning breakfast at the casino- it was probably the worst buffet I have been to in my life- even the "special order" of pancakes was gross- i could have made better if I were hungover and half sick. That being said- stay at the Cabins (yay!) eat breakfast somewhere else. If the weather were better, I certainly would have. read more

Very nice stay there. The people are really great and welcoming. The cabins are very charming and will give you a feel of warm atmosphere as soon as you open the door. You can make a fire and watch a classic movie (we went for killing a mocking bird). On the morning no need to make coffee, just go to the front desk cabin and breakfast is already done there. Awesome! We just returned from a night at the rustic cottages. This place is truly a gem. The owners, property and cottages are all wonderful. We loved all of the extra touches. Cookies, free movies and a delicious breakfast. We are at family of five; a size that isn't always easy to accommodate. We stayed in Edgewood and could've have been more comfortable. We were skiing at nearby Northstar and needed to leave early in the morning. They accommodated us and started cooking breakfast early. My kids loved the waffles, eggs and sausage. The only thing better than the food was the view of the lake from the dining room. We will be back. read more

We visited in Summer 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a one bedroom cabin with a day bed in the living room. The cabin was cozy and the furnishings were comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was simple but quite good. Would have given it a five except for the very loud toilet. It was a new high efficiency one, but the flush was way too loud and woke up our son in the other room every time we flushed. read more

I had just gotten back from my first tour in Viet Nam. It was July 1968. We were 19 years old. We got married in Reno and drove down to Tahoe. My wife of 2 hours saw this place and said this was it. We were quite poor at $105 a month military pay. We stayed a week in the Tallac cabin, it was $29 a night back then. Swam, Kayaked, Pee Wee Golfed, we were under age so did the touristy things. Then 30 days later back to Viet Nam. It wasn't until our fifth anniversary that we could afford to go back. Same cabin. Good memories are priceless. Another 5 years on our 10th we went back again. It had then become our summer highlight. The outside looks haven't changed much over the years. Maybe some colors and the shape of the driveway and lawn. And since I don't like change, that is a good feeling for me. What has changed is the people and service. Friendly, helpful, caring. Always a smile and a hello. Candy and sundries as you check in. Forgot your comb, tooth brush, paste? No problem, they are on the counter. Besides the cookies and brownies, when you check out a movie you get a bag of pop corn. How cool is that. Waffles and muffins always warm. It made me buy a waffle machine for home. Coffee and juice. You can sit at a table for two, or share and have fun talking with others at the big table. Check out the cool stuff in the main cabin area. BBQ's on the deck. A Safeway right down the street. Steak and corn on the cob, yummy. We will be going back again this July for our 43rd anniversary. It makes stay #34. As we got older we wanted a bit larger cabin. Since we first went there on our honeymoon, we now stay in the honeymoon suite, Tahoma. Large room and bath. Great fully setup kitchen area and queen bed. Did I forget to say a stone Jacuzzi tub in one corner with a waterfall effect to fill it and an easy to use gas fireplace in another corner. Leather love seat. Nice deck overlooking the quiet grounds in the back of the property. Saw foxes and squirrels last year. This suite is super large, and very nice. It has been our choice the last 15 trips. Memories make this a must stop each year for us. And all you have to do is try it to start your memories. read more

These are cute little cottages. We stayed here two nights. the price was reasonable, the staff was great, they had brownies in the evening and kind of a continental style breakfast. There is beach access across the street. The place was clean and well maintained. The only thing we didn't like was that our cabin was close to the road so there was constant road noise. This place is hands down the best place I ever stayed. Cabins: They are small, but comfortable and adorable. We were in Sierra which had a kitchenette.. which came with all the utensils, pans and dishes you could need. Along with kitchen linens and dishsoap. All rooms have microwaves though. All rooms also have dvd/vcr combo players and they lend out movies (for free) from their extensive collection. They will also give you free popcorn. Also free wifi!!! They also shovel and salt the walks to the cabins everyday and leave the shovels and a car scraper outside for the guests. And dogs are welcome, just follow the rules they provide. Breakfast: this is the best breakfast ever. Make your own waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs, muffins, cereal, juice and TANG! I've stayed at Fairmonts and Roosevelts and never, ever had breakfast that good. The office also keeps brownies, cookies, coffee, cider and tea all day for the guests to help themselves. Oh and did I mention that all of the above is complementary??!? They also have soaps, shampoos, razors and even toothbrushes just sitting on the front desk in case you forgot yours or need extra. The postcards are also free. If you added up all the complimentary things this place offered you would probably add another hundred/day at a normal hotel. To top it off the staff are so nice and friendly. Other: They let you borrow sleds and snowshoes and when all the sleds were taken one day the kid from the desk actually came to find us when a sled had been returned. How awesome is that? The snowshoes were also great. We trekked across the street to the lake. The desk also gave us a printout of local hiking that we played around with. For instance, you can ride the lift up at Northstar and hike back down for $5. They were also the ones who suggested the Recreation Area down the street, it was fun, a bit annoying at times with the ice and the parking mixups, but overall worth it. You may also get vouchers for the Donner ski ranch depending on the room you stay in and we went there to tube only to find out it was closed and could only ski. That place was a bummer, but not the RCs fault at all. I would not hesitate to book here again, it really was the best lodging experience ever. Oh and the most adorable thing? The staff pull their stuff on a sled to clean the rooms!! read more
