Northern Berry Crumble
Ann Marie C.

Betty's vs Rustic Inn?? It's a split decision in our household. But seriously, there's no loser when you get to eat pie. Rustic in. Has a nice sized parking lot but still find it difficult to find parking during peak times. The restaurant has nice home cooked food. The onion rings and meatloaf are favorites. Be sure to save room for pie at the end of your meal. My favorites are the caramel apple and the Northern Berry crumble. A whole pie is about $25, while a slice runs about $5. You can also just stop by the front counter for just pie if you don't want to sit for a meal. It gets a little crowded up at the front though. They should figure out the traffic flow at the entrance because there's also a small gift shop that also jams up the entrance/exit.

Lemon Angel- refreshing and creamy!!(fell in the car)

My boyfriend and I were taking one day and I had noted that Betty's Pies up North were pretty good! And my boyfriend noted that"ohhh you NEED to try Rustic Inn it's better!" No shade to Betty's Pies but I can say I thought Rustic Inn had better pies on a recent North shore trip! We did not go into the restaurant because we were only there for pies and they have a food truck with "pie on the fly!" You can get a whole pie or slice! There are plenty of options! We tried the peanut butter, lemon angel and blueberry cream! I can confidently say they are all AMAZING! Service was quick and easy! It would be nice if they put a couple tables outside to enjoy your pie but we took ours to go and ate it on the beach. If you are traveling in this area, definitely worth the stop!!

The location was easy to find. Small seating area but cute little cafe. There is a gift shop inside reminds me being at the crackle barrel. Fresh variety of pies. Simple menu but plenty options. They do not offer a turkey bacon or chicken sausage. As I was told be the server everything is pork. Unfortunately I am allergic to pork. Light low music in the background. Every folk here seems to enjoy the atmosphere. They take a little too long to bring the food and the bill to pay. So if you are in a time frame make sure to ask for it immediately once your food arrives.

Warm, welcoming vibe and incredibly friendly staff. We stopped in for pie and learned it's takeout-only from their food truck in the parking lot. A slice was $7, good, though not particularly memorable for the price. Still, it's a nice stop along the North Shore with plenty of regular food options that make it worth a visit.

Peach Pie

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - we asked for their recommendation and they stated that the North Shore Berry Crumb was one of the more popular and the Peach Pie was the cashier's favorite so these were the two we got. The peach had great flavor and texture but it was quite typical. The berry crumb was interesting but extremely sweet as the berries were sweetened but the crumb on top was even sweeter. Service: 4/5 - quick service but we could feel their frustration that we didn't immediately know what we wanted. Ambiance: n/a - ordered the pies to go. The indoor seating is extremely crowded and we felt a bit claustrophobic at the counter ordering pie. Value for price: 3/5 - while the pies were good, we can't justify the $6 per slice cost. We're also not sure why there's tax on some orders and not others based on our observation while there.

The place is chaos and slow going at the same time. You enter in and there are multiple signs that say Please Wait to be Seated but you don't have a clue who to even talk to or wait with because you're met immediately with the truffle station where about 3 people are there helping people purchase truffles and no real hostess to great restaurant guests. So many people in line were confused as they came in. Their pie ordering is confusing. I saw some people purchase pies up at the truffle counter but employees, pleasant as they were, said you could only by during seated dining or go out to the pie truck outside. If you come here, be prepared for a wait. It's a busy spot and it's possible seating is limited due to staff ability- at least I heard others awaiting diners say as much. There's an outside patio but the patio was not in use for eating. They said they don't serve food outside. The porch was more the waiting area to be seated for dining. Lots of seating out there and they'll come out and call your name when it's your turn to be seated, so you don't have to wait around inside or you could hit up the gift shop attached to the restaurant and peruse Knick knacks while you wait. As for the food, took a long time to get that too but i rated a bit higher because I thought it was quite flavorful. The meatloaf and walleye piccata were better than I had anticipated. The kids pizza though could have used a few fries to go along with it. The peanut butter pie was well balanced/m; actually wasn't as sweet as it looked. The north shore berry crumble was nice but too sweet for me. Overall, although the place was slow and had confusing organization, the food was nearly worth the wait.

This is one of my favorite spots on the north shore and worth the wait, which their usually is. Luckily you can walk around the gift shop while you wait. I got the hot beef, gravy on the side, delicious. My dad got the turkey sandwich that came with a salad and a slice of pie, he thought it was great. We all decided to get our pie to go which we enjoyed once we got home. They have a lot of pie options but definitely plan out a few options because they often run out of their popular flavors.

Chicken and waffle sandwich - wild rice rueben with house made chips
Nathan B.

We have been traveling through northern Minnesota for years and the Rustic Inn was our usual go to for a good meal and exceptional pie. Upon arriving we placed our names on the wait list and were told that the wait would be 25 minutes. Funny, as I was waiting I happened to notice that everyone was told that the wait was 25 minutes. Once seated I ordered the wild rice (bread) reuben with house made chips and my wife ordered the chicken and waffle sandwich with house fries. We both ordered coffee to drink. My reuben was very good and chips were average to good. However, My wife's sandwich was poor at best. The waffles were ok, but the chicken fillet was dry, overdone and extremely chewy. Her fries were okay and lukewarm warm, tasted like they had been under the heat lamp a little long. For dessert I ordered the blueberry cream pie and my wife ordered the peanut butter pie. While eating my wife stated that they had changed the recipe of the peanut butter pie. The peanut butter filling tasted the same, but that the chocolate top layer used to be a chocolate ganache, but was now tasted like a Betty Crocker tub frosting. In contrast the Blueberry cream pie was very good, with the meringue crust was exceptional. For those of you who have been coming here over the years the food quality has slumped a bit. If you are coming here for the pies, stick with the fruit/berry pies . Overall the service was good

Carmel apple pecan pie (11/10)

So good, we went with 8 people total, they seated us very quickly and the place was cleeeeeeeean like cleaner than Mr Clean's bathroom. So after we were seated we checked out the *ahem* MASSIVE food selection and choices we had. We ordered our drinks and stuff, yada yada, then we ordered our food, I got the chicken and waffle sandwich which was amazing. After eating, we ordered dessert. COME HERE FOR PIE, NOWHERE ELSE COMPARES TO THE RUSTIC INN FOR PIE!!!!!! I got Carmel apple pecan, 11/10 it was amazing.

Great selection of pies, quick service, and lots to look at in the gift shop. I'll definitely stop in next time I'm up that way.

My wife and I staying in our Lake Home at Superior Shores over Valentine's Day weekend felt…read morecompelled to go out for a romantic dinner. I had suggested going to our usual go to, the Ledge Rock Grill at Larsmont. My wife insisted staying closer to home and taking advantage of the Valentines seven course dinner menu at Vue North in Superior Shores Resort. We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated at a window table as requested in our reservation. Being a true foodie from way back, I always opt for a well prepared gourmet meal as opposed to a standard menu. I have to admit I was skeptical when I booked the reservation, but am pleased to say the current Chef hit it out of the park. Every course was over the top and a clear ten. Obviously a lot of thought and talent went into both the creation of the menu and preparation of each course. I haven't had a gourmet meal of this caliber in years. The ambiance was excellent, the service was great, and each course was a ten!

We sat by a window with a decent view of the water and plenty of light. Our server was very friendly and helpful. While we waited for our food, we walked out on the deck, which led to scenic marshy areas with trails. I ordered beet wellington with arugula, and my spouse had a chicken dish with risotto. Just half of the beet wellington with the arugula was enough to fill me up. I liked the beet wellington, but it would have been better if they figured out a way to season the beet. Maybe pierce it and marinate it a bit? The chicken and risotto were also good. If we were hungrier, we would have supplemented these dishes with more vegetables. This was a nice place to stop before returning on a long drive home. We enjoyed relaxing in the spacious dining room with evocative upscale cabin decor. As I finished typing this, my spouse chimed in, "Not amazing, but pretty good." And in a touristy area where restaurant quality can be hit or miss, pretty good is exactly that: pretty good. We'll take it.
