The pizza is really awesome too - I like the fungi-focused choice, and my husband always adds a chicken topping. On our most recent visit, we did not ask for the chickpea crust, but it is the best tasting and textured gluten-free crust my husband and I have ever tasted. We don't have celiacs, but often choose the chickpea crust just because it is so dang good! I have visited Rustico twice, both for weekday dinner (technically happy hour), and each time I was pleased with my food. I used to drive by all the time in the summer and the patio was packed, which inspired me to give them a try! Again, both visits were during HH and although it wasn't very crowded we made reservations ahead of time. Those might be more useful during the weekend, but better safe than sorry. There is parking on the street and the rear, and the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Since it has been a little chilly lately I have opted for indoor seating, but it appears they have heaters outdoors if that's your preference! The house wine was good. Nothing special but a good deal. My favorite thing on the menu: Sgt. Pepperoni pizza!! If you are a fan of honey on your pizza Sgt Pepperoni is the way to go! My friend also tried the White pizza and said it was great! Lastly, due to the pandemic, I'm guessing the restaurant is slightly short staffed. The steak salad was much larger in size and a complete meal, which had large meaningful slices of steak on top of a beautifully large bed of salad. The food was basic and not very tasty (I'm being charitable). I had grilled salmon over risotto and sadly, it tasted like something from Nutrisystem or maybe one of those survival companies that make food to last until the next apocalypse. We went during Happy Hour and each had a Pomegranate Lemonade Margarita which I guarantee did not have alcohol in them. We then switched to a glass of wine each (again during Happy Hour), and together, the two glasses equaled one glass at your average neighborhood restaurant. I have been going to Rustico for years and have always enjoyed my meals but today I was beyond thrilled to discover Ricotta Donuts on their menu. I have had ricotta donuts before and love them, so I ordered these in anticipation. I was not disappointed. They were not too sweet or heavy, topped with powdered sugar and served with three dipping sauces (caramel, chocolate, and/or strawberry). We had the Blue Bay Mussels and they are worth all your time and effort!!! The white wine sauce is so yummy you have to dip the toasted bread in it or you are simply missing out!!! Don't waste the sauce!!! The Steak and Eggs was superb!!! Steak was cooked to my liking and the chimichurri sauce on the top is the thing spicy dreams are made of. It had a silent back end heat that brought the dish full circle and was generously smothered all over the top of the steak!!! I requested my egg fried hard, which was done and done well, instead of the over easy egg the menu suggests. Those potato wedges were the bomb!!!! Big thick triangle of full on potato with a crispy outer shell! My cousin had the Grilled Shrimp & Grits and let's just say he cleaned his plate!! The grits were to his liking and the shrimp were grilled right not dry and with visible grill marks so you know its real!!! For dessert, we got the Rustico Donuts!!! Fresh made to order and arrive at the table hot with melted caramel and milk chocolate dipping sauces!!! Such a tasty way to end a good meal!!! Service was great and timely. I really do like this place a lot. Parking seems like it could be a little tight but I always have found a spot right in front, every time that I've been here. I came to use a coupon I got from volunteering at Snallygaster this year (which I do every year) and I may have had the same thing as last time. I really do need to come more than once a year. The hostess was very cheerful even though she had to stand right in front of the door and get all that cold air blasted on her. She still smiled (or maybe she was gritting her teeth) and immediately sat us. The waitress took a little while to get to us but it could've just felt like that because we were hungry. Also, she was the only one in our area and there were maybe 7 other tables in my area that she had to wait on. She also was very pleasant although she seemed to be worked to the bone. I saw her zipping from table to table before even getting the chance to get to us. Still, she was pleasant and very helpful on choosing a flight for me that I didn't even end up getting. Someone else brought the food out but then she checked on us shortly after and then left us to enjoy our date. She stated she would suggest some desserts but only if we were interested. She could see the stuffed expression on our face. These plates were huge. The food was very tasteful yet, it still tasted healthy. It tasted very fresh and not a lot of salt but a lot of flavor. It was the first time I pushed through eating hot food. I usually let my food cool off after tasting it to find out its hot. Not this. We were easily able to fit our infant carrier on the bench next to us but they do have high chairs too. Having dined previously at Rustico in Arlington, we knew they are popular for their wood-fired pizzas, of which we ordered two. The chicken pesto with sundried tomatoes was our favorite. It was cheesy, well-seasoned, and with an ample amount of chicken. I don't usually care for pesto but it was not an overwhelming flavor and had a nice mix of basil too. The bbq pulled pork was our other choice. I thought it to be heavy on the onions but overall was tasty and the bbq sauce had a bit of sweet and a bit of spice. The crust was slightly welldone on the pork but the pesto pizza had delicious crust chewy yet still with a bit of crispness. Service was slow and not very attentive but we didn't really need anything since we stuck with water. But we stopped coming here after, during our last two visits, they stopped letting us sit with our kid on the right side of the restaurant and started insisting that families must sit in the family ghetto on the left side of the restaurant. The pretext they gave is that they serve alcohol on the right side of the restaurant, which contains a bar area as well as booths, so allegedly it's not appropriate to serve kids there; ironically, as soon as they sat us in the kids ghetto, they gave us a cocktail menu and asked us what we wanted to drink. They are free to run their restaurant how they want, but none of the other restaurants in this area discriminate against families in this way and we will not put up with it, so we will not be back and encourage other families to think twice before coming here, too. read more

We tried this place out because the menu looked good. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to it. The restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night - a warning sign. Also, this place is DARK! It was like sitting in a cave. The bare wood booth seating was really uncomfortable. The cocktails were good, and so was the fried cauliflower appetizer. But the "spicy" wings were bland and borderline tough. While my wife's pizza was fine, with a nice, chewy crust, the fish in my fish and chips was limp - no crispness at all. At the server's suggestion I upgraded to truffle fries, which was a mistake - they completely overpowered the rest of the dish. The fries themselves had good texture, though. We had cinnamon donuts for dessert - bland and doughy, with a boring caramel sauce. Service was fine except for pacing - they dropped our entrees almost immediately after we got our apps, and we had to wait several minutes before we could order dessert and another long wait for the check afterwards. The place remains creative, interesting, and reliable. service: Two day shift servers took care of us and both were great. Professional, prompt, and knowledgeable. Service isn't hurried or slow-paced; it's just right. bar: Huge kudos for such a well-researched and documented beer list. I mean, when they tell you what glass your beer will be served in, then you know you're in the right place. I drank Bluejacket's Paper Tulip IPA, which was great. I'm a neighborhood business guy. And Rustico is in my neighborhood. After the pandemic, we visited this great spot quite a bit, because we wanted it to succeed. In spite of itself, Rustico seems to have taken a turn away from innovative food-forward cuisine, into the mundane and banal. So disappointed. We brought my son here because he loves their steak and frites. My wife is a vegetarian and post-pandemic, the menu has moved away from veg options. She ordered a Caesar salad which was about as mundane and boring as a salad can be. I ordered the pasta Bolognese.it came without bread, no offer of cheese or crushed red pepper. (we also ordered an appetizer that never came. We weren't charged for it but had to point it out to our server, who was surprised.) Boring overcooked pasta, bland unimaginative salad, and a good steak and frites. Rustico has a great happy hour, and is usually a place we consider a first option on a Thursday or Friday. Now? I'm honestly livid about my visit to Rustico Sunday evening. We had a busy weekend, but still wanted to go somewhere nice to celebrate my wife's birthday and chose Rustico. The service was unbelievably bad. It took about 15 minutes from putting in a drink order of a beer and a diet coke to get our drinks. The guy who finally brought two glasses and two cans to the table acted like he was pissed when we asked for ICE. Our actual waiter completely disappeared for 20 or 30 minute stretches. I know there are some server shortages at restaurants right now, and I've always tried to be understanding of that, but the place wasn't THAT busy. I put in a second beer order at some point, but completely gave up waiting for that to arrive and just got the check. My wife's salmon was meh. My daughter got a fried chicken sandwich which was either dark meat or just completely gross. Either way, if your chicken sandwich is going to be dark meat it should mention that on the menu. She couldn't eat it. Stuff happens. But it was a special night for our family, and we went out of our way to choose and drive to this restaurant. They really spoiled it for us. Rustico peaked my interest when a friend sent me an advertisement for their Festivus for the Rest of Us event this past December. I immediately thought this would be my kind of place; so my husband got a reservation and away we went. The nice decor and friendliness of the staff made an immediate good impression. The bar setup has a clean, modern look and there is plenty of seating in the dining area. I loved the holiday atmosphere and there was indeed a festivus pole to air your grievances. The pizza here is pretty good; though Lena's is still my favorite. The wings were also decent. The full bar and beer selection are even better. I've been to both Rustico locations and definitely have a love affair with this charming Old Town location. While I haven't dined here in awhile, I want to shout out their beet and goat cheese salad because it is absolutely delicious and very affordable, whether you're grabbing it for lunch or dinner. You are able to opt for a protein of choice for an extra charge - I suggest the salmon. Recently purchased an online gift certificate for this location for a dear friend who lives a block away (this is what happens when you can't dine together for a variety of reasons, yet want to treat them to a meal) and wanted to write about how wonky the process was. A great place to grab lunch with a friend! The menu has lots of options if you're stopping by on a weekend for brunch. We didn't require a reservation and plenty of seating in either the outdoor terrace or their large indoor space. We really enjoyed their spring cocktails, which felt light and refreshing! Stopped by here with my hubby and stepdaughter. We all got the lunch box which comes with 3 items of your choice and beverage. All for $15 bucks!!! I'm mean a pizza alone is that much here but, you get 2 other items as well. I had the white pizza, Cesar salad, and the most amazing truffle fries I've ever had!
