Landini Brothers is a good option on a very busy street for Italian which also includes Mia's, Il Porto, and even The Wharf (seafood restaurant). I love the outdoor dining space. Even in the rain there are 5 tables under the awning. An interesting hack, especially when Mia's is slammed--and they always are slammed, walk across the pedestrian street and check out Landini. Even on a busy Friday or Saturday night, I've had great luck on the patio: They dont take reservations for the patio. The food is always excellent. I love the Tortellini alla Panna. It is filled with veal. The sauce is so good. Another one of my hacks, which I used tonight, is asking if they have any porkchop which is on the lunch menu. Tonight, I was in luck. This was our 1st Stop on an Old Town food, the ambiance is nice, and a lot of history with the building. Loved the dining area & decor, the Staff was friendly and fast. Our selection was a spinach ravioli in a cream sauce and a choice of a red or white wine. The bread was okay, but really enjoyed the entrée, flavorful and the cream was light & not thick. We decided to try this place for lunch. We had an Open Table reservation. The restaurant is very attractive in a historical building with exposed brick walls and tasteful art work. The server, Noe was very helpful and answered all our questions. We ordered the eggplant parm and the veal Landini both dishes were very large. The eggplant was listed as an appetizer but Noe told me it was large enough for a lunch, and he was absolutely correct! The broccolini served with the eggplant was delicious and the eggplant was melt in your mouth. My husband's veal was also very tender and flavorful. I've been going to Landini's for over 30 years . This is the first time I've been disappointed. We went for our wedding anniversary that coincides with Valentine's Day. We asked for the waiter that usually serve us . When we arrived we were seated at someone else's section. For the first time , no congratulatory card or decorated table with confetti . The menu was different and for starters I ordered the Escargot Casino. For $24.00 they could do better than 4 small escargot inside a small puffed pastry that crumbled when I ate it. The NY Steak was a bit overcooked. The side of Risotto with black and white truffles was tasty. It is strange that they added some white truffles since I asked for black . The Beef Wellington was not cooked evenly. Medium well came out more rare than what it's supposed to be. I was charged $21.00 for a drink called Love Bug that was under the L'Aperitivo With our compliments on Valentine's day. 'Tis was the night before Christmas when we decided to go here after driving around Vienna to look at Christmas lights. After confirming they are open, we took our time driving to Old Town Alexandria to have our late dinner. The place was packed! We were told that since we didn't have a reservation, we would have to wait 30 to 35 minutes, which we were willing to wait. Sitting on a barstool, I was looking around to see what these diners are doing, and why are there so many people at this restaurant, at this hour. Then it struck me: they are here to eat after going to a Christmas service at their church. Twenty minutes later, we were escorted and seated. Our table was darker than I would like to be, but I was able to turn on my phone's camera to look at the menu. A lot of great options. Plenty to choose from for this 9PM dinner. After convincing my brother we should share our food, we ordered an escargot dish as an appetizer, Caesar salad, Chilean sea bass for entrée, and for dessert, no sharing! The appetizer dish came with four escargots stuffed in four flour mini tubes. Because we were expecting this dish to come in the actual shells, we were confused by what we saw. For the money we paid and what we got, I would not order this again. It was bland, and felt I was eating more of the mini tube, the flour, then the actual escargot. Our next dish was a salad, the Caesar salad. This salad deserves a lot of more write up than just your basic Caesar salad. The salad was split into two portions. Both portions had the dressing mixed into the romaine lettuce, and the croutons came in a separate cup. I thought the dressing that they used was perfectly mixed: not too little nor too much where you would feel overwhelmed. I enjoyed this salad quite a bit. This will be an item that I would order again and again. After eating the escargot and salad dishes, the waitstaff clear our dishes and made room for our entrée, which was the Chilean sea bass. Taking my portion and splitting the sides of potatoes and broccolinis, my mouth was watering for more fish after eating the first bite. Wow! The fish was perfectly cooked. I barely touch my fork when the small portion fell from the fillet. The fillet melted in my mouth, and the first couple of bites had my regret for not ordering and eating this by myself. Kudos to the chef for making this dish unforgettable. Our final order were the two desserts. My key lime pie was okay, but the graham cracker crust was a little harder to cut through, so I left some of it in my plate. From the service to the ambiance to the full bar, let alone the menu, this place is very good. I had the Linguini Vogole and it was heavenly. Overall, the food was well-cooked and authentic, but I had small nitpicks with both the food and the service. We arrived at opening time on a Sunday and made a reservation the night before as a precautionary, but when we walked in, the restaurant was not busy at all. We started with a Pate e Robiola crostini as an appetizer. They brought out with complimentary bread & whipped butter to start off our meal, which was lovely. Unfortunately, I personally didn't like the Pate e Robiola too much, as it was very creamy and fatty. We ordered a Penne alla Romana to split between two people - the service was very attentive and split both the pasta and the accompanying Caesar Salad into two portions for us! I LOVED the Caesar salad! The veggies were sweet and crispy and the dressing was umami and salty in all the right ways. The Penne alla Romana was cooked perfectly al dente but the sauce was a little bland. There was salt and pepper on the table to the dish which helped the flavor of the dish immensely. My only small complaint is that while they split the pasta dish into two, we were charged for the dinner rate of the dish instead of the lunch rate. Other complaint is that we ordered a side of pesto risotto but the waiter forgot about it, but we didn't get charged for it so it ended up being okay. Ideally, I would've liked to try it but at that point, we had been in the restaurant for almost an hour and had to leave for something else. The service in terms of getting the food out was pretty slow, but the attentiveness to water refills and clearing away plates was excellent. My friend and I walked into the restaurant and were seated immediately. Within a minute or two, the hostess returned and told us that we would not be able to dine inside because I was wearing a México soccer jersey. She explained that jerseys were not allowed inside the restaurant, but that we could be seated outside instead. We accepted without arguing and were moved outside. Unfortunately, after being seated, we waited for 25 minutes without anyone checking on us, bringing us water, or taking our order. It was over 100 degrees outside, and after sitting there in the heat with no service whatsoever, we decided to leave. What made the experience especially upsetting was that no one mentioned a dress code before seating us, and as I looked around, I saw multiple diners dressed casually in T-shirts, shorts, and sandals. From what I observed, those guests were all white, yet I was the only person asked to move because of what I was wearing. That left me confused about how the dress code was being enforced. I also found the policy itself to be odd given that we're in the middle of the World Cup. A soccer jersey--especially a national team jersey--is a common way people celebrate and support the tournament. Seeing it treated as unacceptable attire was surprising. I can't say with certainty why I was treated differently, but I'd be lying if I said the thought of racial bias never crossed my mind. My friend and I were the only two Mexican patrons I saw in the restaurant, and the jersey I was wearing represented México. Whether that played a role or not, the entire experience made me feel singled out and unwelcome. If there is a dress code, it should be communicated clearly and enforced consistently. More importantly, once we agreed to be seated outside, we should have received the same level of service as every other guest. Instead, we were left sitting in extreme heat without so much as a glass of water until we finally gave up and left. I sincerely hope the restaurant reflects on how this situation was handled. No guest should leave feeling embarrassed, ignored, or questioning whether they were treated differently because of who they are or what they were wearing. read more

We were sat in the corner kinda smushed up against the wall and our table was noticeably very small for the amount of food, glasses, and wine chiller. As local Old Town residents we've been walking to Landini's for years, oftentimes 3-4 times a week, for drop-in cocktails and dinners. It's always been our favorite spot, not just for us but also to recommend to visitors. However, in the last couple of months we've seen that many of our all-time favorites (Tammy and Tommy, most notably) have apparently been "let go" after years and years of loyal service. Not only are we heartbroken, but their loss is evident in the decline in service seen across the restaurant and bar. Truly, if Susan weren't still there I'm not sure we would have kept coming back in the last few months. Additionally, we've been bringing our now 10-month-old daughter to Landini's since she was born; she made her first visit at just 8 days old, and it was a celebration for us: our new daughter, our family, celebrating her arrival in our favorite spot in Old Town. However, we were told just the other night that we are no longer "allowed" to be at the bar with her--in her carrier, as an infant (and myself as a breast-feeding mother, no less)--due to new rules/policies implemented by the new management. Keep in mind that this is the same management who made the brilliant choice to fire many of the best people at Landini's (and also we have gathered that this new management was taken from the Cheesecake Factory...seriously???). No other restaurant in all of Old Town has this issue, and I think it's unlikely that we return to Landini's. By firing excellent and loyal staff, jacking up the price of entrees and drinks exorbitantly, and making it so that (local!) families no longer feel comfortable and welcome at a decades-old family-run establishment...needless to say, I hope it's worth it for those at the top of the pyramid and that they're happy with their Cheesecake Factory-level of service. read more

No complaints from the serving staff, but it did take a while to get our food which was not surprising given the type of food some of us ordered. Now for the not so good. The mixed seafood plate was very bland and didn't wow me in any way. The shrimp in the dish were not deveined, so be warned. The house salad was also plain and the 'creamy sauce' was minimal and was pretty much Cesar salad dressing. The veal Parmesan was bland, mushy, and had little flavor. Service was horrific on a Sunday evening. We come here often. We bring people to experience this place and last night it was a joke. Food is consistently good. We sat for 20 mins before anyone came by. Other tables were getting serviced. It was NOT busy at all. We had to get get up and ask for a waiter to come by. We didn't even know who was our waiter. The back server did bring us waters but we wanted bottled waters but since nobody asked.... He also brought bread after I asked for it. Again, I had to get up and ask the host to have someone take our orders. We ordered appetizers and an expensive bottle of wine. Wine was a fiasco. We were nice and patient. A different waiter brought it and kept telling us he was just helping while the bottle got ruined and spilled all over the table. Nobody cleaned the table. Appetizers came in and he was snippy with the back server (poor kid) and told him to wait to set appetizers on the table. Then again, not one person came to check on us. I got up again and asked for a waiter to bring us more water. Waiter again. At this point it's over an hour and had to find the waiter to take our dinner order. And didn't see him again until food came. Back server brought us more water and bread. We had to ask him since our waiter or any other waiter wouldn't even make eye contact with us. I want to start by saying that the food is always great and I often visit maybe every other week / month to order my go to when I'm unable to dine in but I experienced some issues with the service at the host stand on Wednesday around noon and I understand that everyone can have a bad day but I believe that handling customer interactions withgrace is needed especially with front desk . Unfortunately that was not my experience today after paying for my to go order online when the hostess told me it would be fine to do so even though i ordered in person. When i walked into the restaurant she told me I would need to pay twice because she said I now have two orders, even though she had not passed on my "second" order to the kitchen yet. she did call her manager over though so she could be the one to tell us that it wasn't possible but instead she quickly let us know it would be perfectly fine and just told her to delete the in person order and assured us it was fine. I would not be writing this review if it ended there but after i said I knew that could be done to my friend host then told me to "oh shutup". needless to say that was unprofessional especially from someone in a customer service position. interactions like this can be handled so much better!! UPDATE RESPONSE My intention is not to misrepresent but to provide honest feedback I genuinely value the food and the establishment like i've mentioned but I believe that mutual respect is essential even with a previous employee not to mention i believe you were misinformed with the whole interaction. Old Town Alexandria can be a bit overwhelming in terms of deciding on where to eat - there are so many options. We opted for Landini Bros and even though we decided to share an appetizer and entre, they were nice enough to serve it on two plates for us - thanks! The linguini alle pescatore was good - with a generous amount of seafood in it. And the bread that came with the table also good. Drinks - the wine pour slightly on the generous side which was nice - given that some restaurants skimp on this. Alas, the waiter who started out okay, kind of got weirder and weirder as the evening wore on. He ended up pitching his book he sells on Amazon and appeared to be part of some bizarre cult. Kind of funny at first, but the dude didn't really let up and after a while it was like, enough. We ate outside, and the ambience was kind of ruined by the loud street musician nearby, which I suppose is not the fault of the restaurant. My friends and I had a 9:30 PM reservation on New Year's Eve and, due to heavier-than-expected traffic, arrived at 9:44. We fully understood that this was past the grace period and were prepared to accept whatever the situation was. When we checked in, we politely asked whether our table was still available. The hostess was shockingly rude. She looked us straight in the eye and said, "There's a 10-minute grace period, so your table is gone," then immediately turned away and continued her conversation as if we weren't standing there. When we tried to get her attention again to ask if there were any other options, another staff member overheard and let us know that our table was actually still open and that we could be seated, as long as we ordered quickly before the kitchen closed. I completely understand if a reservation needs to be released after the grace period. I would have also understood if the table had already been given away -- especially on NYE. What I don't understand is the unnecessary rudeness and being treated as if we were an inconvenience or invisible while trying to politely ask a question.
