The moment you walk in, the hospitality wraps around you the staff genuinely makes you feel like family. That kind of warmth is hard to fake and even harder to find. We always get the pepperoni pie well done because that's our favorite, but we also always ask for whatever the seasonal pie is. This time they had two different ones, the eggplant and the corn pie. We decided for the corn pie ant it was a pleasant surprise! The combination of sweet and savory was so well balanced, and somehow the corn worked beautifully on a pizza. After coming here several times,, I can honestly say the consistency is what impressed me the most. Great ingredients, thoughtful/creative flavors, incredible crust, and food that doesn't need to overcomplicate itself to be memorable. BTW, service was friendly and attentive. I asked the owner a simple question about the frosting on a cake because I wanted to understand the ingredients for allergy reasons. The cakes are personally made by the owner, so there is no packaged bakery label that I could simply look at. I was asking a reasonable question about food I was considering giving my child. Instead of simply answering my question, the owner became extremely rude and belittling toward me and went off on me in front of my young son and other people in the restaurant. During the interaction, the owner told me herself how stressful and difficult it was to be behind the counter and run the establishment as she was short handed because her staff keeps quitting. I genuinely tried to be supportive. I told her that I wanted women to win, regardless of their shade, and I offered to help her stock her shelves for free because I wasn't busy. She declined and said she did not need my help. Before that, however, she had asked me what I did for a living and what companies I worked for. She then told me that what I do for a living was nothing compared to what she does. That interaction was deeply disrespectful. She had no idea who I was, what my professional background was, or what I could contribute, yet she made assumptions about me and diminished my work after questioning me about it. As a Brown woman, I experienced the way I was treated as racially motivated. I cannot speak to what was in her mind, but I can speak to what happened to me and how I experienced it. What happened afterward made the experience even more concerning. The owner sent me a private message attacking my character, calling me "strange," dismissing my professional experience, and telling me that I needed therapy for my "stress and anger issues." She also criticized the way I supposedly speak to my child and used that to make judgments about my character. That accusation is particularly disturbing because she did not witness me speaking to my child in the inappropriate manner she described. That did not happen. She made an assumption about my parenting and presented it as though she had witnessed something inappropriate when she did not. There is also a contradiction in her comments about stress. During our interaction, she was the one who told me that running the business and being behind the counter was stressful and difficult. Rather than responding to my feedback about how I experienced her behavior, she later used "stress and anger issues" to attack me personally. I am sharing this review because I believe people deserve to know the full context of my experience. Customers should be able to ask reasonable questions about ingredients, especially when allergies are involved, without being belittled, questioned about their profession, having their work diminished, or being personally attacked. I came into this establishment willing to support another woman-owned business. I left feeling deeply disrespected and, as a Brown woman, concerned about how I was treated. I will not be returning.

I went to LA Rustique a couple of weeks ago and it was stone cold empty with the lights off and freezing cold in the restaurant @ 7:00 on a Friday night. That should have been the tip off but we decided to give it a try anyway after hearing the pizza was supposed to be good. Well, the guy who helped us (after finally turning on the lights!) was some sort of distracted hyper-manic type who could not stand still long enough to take our full order or a simple request. The cold antipasto was drek, I mean really poor and boring! Very low quality excuse for some super-market type parmigiana, pieces of low end rubbery prosciutto, a few black olives and bland, unsalted (which is unfortunately so typical for New Jersey) fresh mozzarella along with hard pink tomato slices and some salad greens. The Pizza Margherita arrived undercooked and limp (after we specifically ordered it well done and were hastily told that "EVERYTHING comes out well done from that oven") and with no basil at all, (on a so called "Pizza Margherita" that is) along with a pool of too much sauce that tasted like cheap metallicy tomatoes that had spent way too much time in the tin can. In the hour and 15 minutes that we were there not a single additional customer came in to eat in the place. Remember this is on a Friday night. Perhaps this place may have been good at one time but I would not eat in that dump again if you paid me. It is some sort of odd, messed up operation run by people who apparently know nothing about pizza or running a restaurant for that matter! And to think the owner or whoever the clown was who helped us started bragging when we first sat down that some Jersey newspaper called this place the best in the state not once, not twice but THREE TIMES in articles. Yeah, sure. I'm laughing out loud just thinking about that bs. Do yourself a favor and avoid this bad joke of a restaurant at all costs. read more

So i placed a very simple order for delivery - small pizza/wings/Snapple. The delivery guy comes hands me a bag and a pizza. Upon opening the bag I instantly noticed those are not my wings nor is there a snapple in the bag. The bag contained two large subs in foil. So i call back the delivery guy to inform him and return the wrong order he handed me. The guy tells me he'll be back in 30mins with the correct order. 5mins later i receive a call from the delivery guy asking if had a soda that i did not give back. I told him no i do not and there was never a soda in the bag he gave me. He says okay and disconnects the call. About five mins later i get another call from him about the soda, but this time accusing me of taking the soda. At this point i'm appalled by his accusations and rudeness. Better yet I don't even drink soda and clearly ordered a snapple not a soda, but this guy had the nerve to accused me of taking a soda that he likely lost or gave to someone else mixing the orders. Bottom line worst place for delivery. If you don't want your delivery mixed up or having their delivery guy accusing you for his wrongdoings try somewhere else. Even when i called the place they were not so helpful placing me on hold for minutes while overhearing them go back and forth rudely on how to handle the mix up. The pizza was not great either and arrived cold! Terrible service and delivery. If you want cold pizza or someone else's order delivered then this is the place. Last time I will order from this place ever again. read more

Pizza is fairly good here, best in Jersey city with some fresh ingredients. The waiter/server is really nice and works very hard. All is pretty good until ... THE CRAZY PSYCHOTIC OWNER. My boyfriend and I stroll up for dinner around 7:45 on a Tuesday night. Somehow the place looks closed. Tables empty, lights off. The server comes out and seats us after telling us that they are open. Then things get crazy. This woman with bleach blond hair walks out tells us she's the owner, repeats herself a few times... then proceeds to THROW A HIGH CHAIR TO THE GROUND, AND SCREAM VERY DISRESPECTFULLY AT THE SERVER that he needs to take it out of there. She then storms off, TURNS THE LIGHTS OFF ON US WHILE WE'RE EATING, and leaves. She gets into her mercedes which is parked outside and SPEEDS AWAY DRUNK. The poor server apologizes and waits until she is gone to turn the lights back on. He explained that she is drunk and gets mad when they have the lights on?? My boyfriend and I are left eating our pizza and staring at each other with that "WTF just happened?" expression. What a shame. Probably the only decent pizza in Jersey City, but we won't be supporting a restaurant run by a drunk and condescending crazy woman. Also, what's up with the decor? The place always looks closed. This is the first time we have gone to Rustique. Since reopening after Covid-19 restrictions were eased, they now take reservations If you have a reservation for the earlier seating, you have a time limit of 1 1/2 hours. We found this to be ample time, and we did not feel pressured to get out. The restaurant is spacious, light, and airy. The tables are nicely spaced apart. The service staff all attended to us. This is very nice as we did not have to find a specific server to receive service. The service from all the staff was phenomenal. Our water was topped up, quality checks were done during the course of our meal and the staff talked to us and made us feel very welcome even, although there was the time constraint. Rooms and very clean. Well done - Steven and staff. We shared the Meat Lovers Pizza of the day that hadMeatballs, pepperoni and sausage. Made with fresh house made mozzarella, Italian plum tomatoes, fresh basil and Italian olive oil. and Arugula Salad. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. We really liked the thin crust on the pizza. It was still crisp and held the toppings nicely. We shared a bottle of wine with dinner, and one of the servers even topped it up for us once. We had our post-season football do at the Cafe Rustique and a good thing too! First an important disclosure .... worked with Joe in an office based job before he decided to take the plunge and become a pizzeria proprietor. Definitely a very good career move on his part. We had an opportunity to meet all the staff and later see Little Joe when he came with his mum. As a family owned and run business makes this a great place for an evening out. Cafe Rustique is Bring Your Own Beer (BYOB) and we had plenty to see us through the evening. The starters and sauces accompanying them simply were fantastic (this is no exaggeration or bias on this reviewers part). The fries, mussels and mozzarella sticks are great. If you like your chicken or buffalo wings with a super spicy sauce then this is the place to go. The pizzas were exceptional ... we had a Meat Lovers and Red & White. Thin, crispy and delicious down to the last bite. A couple of the guys had chicken parmigiana and enjoyed them immensely. And finally, the dessert. I think I have run out of superlatives by now. It is a great family run restaurant and the atmosphere definitely reflects this. This place is not for Indians or other South Asians. The owner, Charles Wilson is a RACIST. I was there yesterday to pick up a slice of pizza. The owner (with a mushache) said, "..hey bin Laden.. what u doing here." I said, I am an Indian, please don't talk that way. Then he said, after giving my slice.."Oh.. you are Gandhi.. you are meek and a coward!.. don't come here again.. you smell" A lot of Indians in JC complained about this place. It's a racist joint. Ordered delivery & expected it to be about an hour wait ( considering all other pizzerias in Hoboken are around that wait time) after an hour & 30 minutes I called about my order & the girl said it was in the oven. Fine. Another 40 MINUTES go by so I call back again, a guy picks up with an attitude when I've literally been waiting for my pizza, mozzarella sticks & salad for over 2 hours. He said their normal delivery time is 2.5 hours! Well then you should update your online info so people don't expect to be fed that night. My pizza & mozz. Sticks were cold. Horrible service. Make sure when you tip for delivery you don't give too much because the driver refuses to deliver to your door. They seem to think this is ok and are rude about it. Thin crust but soggy pie. Not undercooked cause bottom of pie was charred. Just too much sauce for this style of pizza. Olives too salty might want to leave those off your favorite list of toppings. Enjoy it there if you can - I have to eat hot pizza right there if I can. There are a couple small tables inside and I think a couple outside. I'll be back plenty of times to satisfy my cravings!
