Been coming here off and on for years! My bf and I revisited after 3.5 years so it was nice to be back. I remember even eating here growing up. Maltby Cafe is a gem! The cafe is located downstairs in the basement. During the olden days, it was a school house! Now the upstairs is a gym/basketball court. It's quite popular on the weekends! Saturdays are relatively a bit better than Sundays to come through. Expect to wait and people waiting. They sell honey, merch like t-shirts and sweaters, special seasoning and their famous enormous cinnamon rolls! Their menu encompasses breakfast favorites, omelettes and scrambles, along with pancakes, French toast and waffles. Some establishments serve pancakes with the entrees and saw that pancakes weren't an option, even a side! But since you get a lot of food already, it's understandable why pancakes wouldn't be included. My bf and I got the special! Since it's Easter tomorrow, we got the Easter Benedict! Holy moly -- this was a HIT! ** PLEASE make this again, it was delicious!!!** I got mine with the honey country ham while my bf had bacon. They were not skimpy on the meat, it was thick cut and generous. It had scrambled eggs on top with the most delicious amazing hollandaise sauce EVER! It also has tender asparagus at the bottom and the most AMAZING cornbread I've ever had!!! It came with country potatoes. Overall, this dish was DELICIOUS and DEFINITELY worth having again!!!! I got a side of biscuits and gravy. While the pepper gravy was good, I should've requested sausage gravy as that it so much more flavorful! My parents loved their omelettes. I went with a large group this morning again. We were unannounced and they took excellent care to seat us all as soon as possible. The staff and the service was excellent and cheerful. My low rating in this review is based solely on the quality of the food. The portions are very generous and they have a big selection of choices. I had a chicken fried steak and the sausage gravy was terrible. It had somewhat of a metallic taste that spoiled the whole meal. A friends who had biscuits and gravy said the same thing and suggested the gravy was "old". I can't, with good conscience recommend it at this time. I also noticed that the cafe is in a basement of an old building with a very low wood beamed ceiling with no visible fire retardant system. Since it is always crowded with obit two small and narrow exits that it's a serious fire hazard. This is simply my observation but it made me very uncomfortable. read more

My turkey wrap was fine, though i couldn't find the lettuce on it. The "fries " however were not edible. Extremely greasy, unevenly cooked. How could anyone eat these? Everything about this place is amazing. My wife and I split the swedish pancakes and a burrito, and everything was top tier. The crispy potatoes are some of the best breakfast potatoes, the cream on the pancakes was like ice cream that didn't melt...come here. You won't regret it! read more

Although I've gotten the cinnamon rolls before, I don't think I'd properly dined in before. The cafe is located in the basement, and there's a parking lot conveniently located right outside. I came in a small group, and we got seated after a few minutes. The service was great from start to finish, and we were chatting with the servers while we were waiting for our table. I ordered the French toast, and it was so good. I loved the fresh berries and cream on top because of the extra boost of flavor. OMG! What took us so long to come to this place? Everything about this place is so very true. Food is fantastic! I had the chicken fried steak and it was actually a steak, not ground beef or hamburger. Husband had an omelet that he enjoyed. Portions were huge. Service was great. Wait staff was very friendly. Interesting that the restaurant is in the basement of the building. You have to walk down a flight of stairs. Not a big deal. I thought I saw an entrance for the disabled. Haven't been able to make it back since before Covid so was looking forward to eating here. Previously have had huge line ups and dry cinnamon buns but this time bypassed line by having friends head over early and skipped the bun and ordered Chicken fried steak.. Yummm. My favorite locally has been Patty's eggnest for the chicken steak, but Malty Cafe upped notch with the amount of food. Very much enjoyed going back.. If planning to go anticipate a line up. It's been a long while since I've been to Maltby Cafe and I'm happy to report that nothing has changed. It's still giving you massive amounts of fresh, delicious food for a very reasonable price which is a rarity these days. Couple this with fast, friendly service, great coffee, and a great atmosphere and Maltby Cafe is still the best breakfast in Snohomish County and maybe even Western Washington. read more

First time at the cafe for breakfast. We went on a Friday morning around 9am and it was busy but there were several empty tables and didn't have to wait. Cafe is standard. The food is fantastic. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is comfortable but loud on a busy morning. Be warned, we waited an hour for a table for 4 on the Saturday before Mothers' Day. Always heard some raving reviews about Maltby Cafe. I have been wanting to try this place. We attempted it couple of times in the past, but every time we stopped there for breakfast - the wait time was long and we were in a hurry to be elsewhere. So we figured out that we can't be time bound if we want to try this place. When we finally made up our mind to face the wait time and made no other plans but to enjoy the breakfast from Maltby Cafe, we stopped by. To our surprise, we only had to wait for 3 mins before we got a table even though this place was packed. just wow! The whole set up of this place is mesmerizing. The restaurant is in basement - that was a surprise. Well decorated. It echoes the fact that this place has been up and running for over 30 years. Amazing ambiance. We got a great spot. We were helped by Bria that day. Started off with Coffee and Hot chocolate for kids. We ordered the Fruit filled Swedish Pancakes, French Toast, Baja Omelette and Jr Pancakes. We underestimated the portions - it's huge and usually one order is good for two! Baja omelette was served with potato fries and a biscuit. Jr Pancake came with a sausage on the side. Plenty of fruits with French Toast as well. We really enjoyed the food. Loved everything we ordered that day. Of course couldn't finish the pancakes and had to get a takeout box. Maltby Cafe is known for their cinnamon rolls as well. We ordered one for take out as well. It's 'huge' - we enjoyed that for a couple of days as well. After decades of coming to Maltby Cafe, I'm honestly sad to write this. I always order the special off the whiteboard. Today, the special came out missing key advertised ingredients, and it was noticeably less than what I'm used to getting here. Over the years, I've watched the slow creep in prices and accepted it because the food quality and portions justified it. Today, they didn't. I also asked if the potatoes could be crispy and they weren't. On a positive note, it was nice meeting one of the owners on my birthday, and I genuinely wish them the best. This cafe was packed on a Friday morning, 10AM, in early August. We found parking around back and put our name down when told it would be 10 minutes. Despite the cozy cafe waiting area being filled, the two of us were seated after ~15 minutes. The waitress was nice but forgot my tea. She wasn't back again until the food came out; the tea wasn't on the bill so it was fine. We split the special - cinnamon roll French toast - with a side of potatoes. The food was fine. Came here for Easter Sunday brunch and for no reservation for 5 we had a 30 minute wait (They take reservation for 6+). After ordering our food it's about a similar wait and while reading the reviews they have posted around the entrance it is worth a wait especially with how big the portions are. Except the Biscuits & Gravy were definitely on the smaller side for portions. The country fried potatoes that comes on the side with some of the dishes are so good!! I could just eat that!! I got the Maltby Bread French Toast and there was SO MUCH fruit!! As someone who likes to ratio the French Toast and fruit every bite I'll probably ask if they can put it on the side or less fruit. I was looking for my toast underneath it all. The Creme on the top was so good too!! I can eat the Creme with the toast just like that too!! So you can eat it with or without maple syrup too. I also got the hot chocolate and SO CREAMY!! The portions were so big but the cinnamon roll is bigger!! Had to take it to go. As someone who loves sweets this was a little less on the sweeter side for me but a perfect amount of sweetness if you don't eat lots of sweets. There is parking but depending what time you come it can get full. We got the last parking spot and went down to put our name on the list and when we came back up to wait in the car lots of spots opened up!! What do you want me to say? The drinks I had was amazing, I had the gummy bear mimosa and the strawberry Snazell. I could have sat here all day just drinking lol. The staff, let me tell you that you could not have a better staff than the ladies that was there and the gentleman that rang up my sweatshirt. You know I had to buy some swag. This was our first time going to this café. I will say the food was absolutely delicious, but the service sort of ruined the experience... We came during lunchtime, so of course it was busy, but once we got seated , our waitress pretty much ignored us and didn't come see our table for 20 minutes while the table next to us who got sat down after us had already gotten waters by the time she got to our table she said, are you ready to order and I looked at her and I said can we order drinks first? Then eventually, she brought out waters .. but that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was when she dropped off the bill. My husband had already gotten his card out to give to her, and she immediately saw it and walked away.. She then walked past our table a second time where he again tried to pay. She then went to the same table that was seated after us to check in on them, and I literally had to practically yell excuse me and she just glared at me... and she said I will be right with you and took our check.. I don't know if it was just because they were busy or she was overwhelmed, but the service was not what I would've expected. a literal hidden spot in duvall ! a hidden little restaraunt you have to go downstairs into: like a little hidden world. a comfy, warm, cozy atmosphere. i revisited for the first time in years & it had a major renovation ! the coffee bar was amazing to look at, the seating was very spacious & comfortable, & the cozy cafe decor added to the pleasantry of the visit. everyone had welcomed us with a smile, multiple hellos & goodbyes, & asking if we needed anything. our waiter was the sweetest, & very passionate for her job. the food was AMAZING ! as soon as you step in the aroma of food & coffee has your stomach rumbling. i personally tried the eggs benedict, that was mouthwatering good: the best i have EVER tried. the hot cocoa was cutely decorated, & they even matched it to the season ! - which, an add on, they did have seasonal items ! We visited Maltby Cafe today and I was disappointed, although I still have the cinnamon roll I ordered to go to look forward to. I had read a number of impressive reviews so was looking forward to a special meal. We shared an order of Swedish pancakes stuffed with fresh fruit and had a side of bacon. The good news was the bacon was very good and had four large pieces. The bad news was the "Swedish" pancakes were not really Swedish pancakes but just regular pancakes folded in half with fruit. Real Swedish pancakes are similar to crepes, these were thick regular hot cakes. Don't know if someone made a mistake or if they just don't know how to make real Swedish pancakes. The other bad news was they were cold, not enough warmth to even melt the delicious flavored fruit flavor fraiche that comes with it. Very disappointed. I did not complain to waitress as she was very nice and they were quite busy and we didn't have time to let them try again. I plan to try again on my next trip to the area. read more

I've always loved Maltby Cafe! During the summer I tried to come twice but the wait was over an hour. My companions decided to go elsewhere. Today, I met up with a friend during the week day and was seated right away. I ordered my usual California Scramble. It's always delicious. I also ordered their famous cinnamon roll to go. The service here is always friendly. They always have a smile for you. I'm coming back more often now that I know weekdays are more free! It's a homey atmosphere, warm and cozy too. 3.5/5 It has been several years since I've been to maltby cafe and a few things have changed ( a few haven't too). Parking lot is BAD. gravel is patchey and potholey. For the prices they charge this seems unacceptable. The restaurant is located on a lower level, basement. It has some charm, not the most accessible place for strollers and wheelchairs. Possibly they have an elevator we didn't see? If you come on a weekend prepare to wait. The lobby is very small. The food- Portions have gotten a lot smaller. Flavor was good for the corned beef skillet but some of the potatoes still had quite a bit of crunch. Biscuits and gravy was underwhelming with not enough gravy. Kids meal was also not a good deal. We should have just gotten him a full size meal instead of $8.50 for a small pancake and piece of bacon. Eclair was giant, but I would recommend sticking with the true star of Maltby, THE CINNAMON ROLL. Seriously, it's probably the main reason we would return. It's huge and delicious, even the outside bit. Latte was also a very tasty. Service was very friendly. read more

The food is all delicious, homemade, comfort food. My friend and I often split a breakfast because the portions are generous. You are served by friendly, "family " members; not only the owner's family, but children of servers who have been there for years. This is a destination location you only learn about through friends. It is a happy family and friends meeting place. The place is super cute. Service was great. A few things to note. You have to go down a set of stairs. We had a stroller and had to carry it down. I am not sure how those in wheelchairs can go in? We went to Maltby cafe on a Sunday. The website says Maltby has consistently been voted best breakfast in the PNW. Sadly, we would strongly disagree with that statement. The food came out cold and the eggs were extremely overcooked. The biscuits were very dry and the cinnamon roll was very sad. We had high expectations given the hype for this cafe and we were very disappointed. There were also multiple flies circling our table (which would be more understandable in the summer but this was a chilly September day).
