Grilled Pork Sandwich and Vietnamese Coffee
    Nikita S.

Best banh mi in town! I've been wanting to try this place for a couple of months, and I'm so glad I finally did. The ambiance is very casual and welcoming. During rush hour the parking gets full pretty quickly. It seems to be run by an Asian family, and they were some of the kindest, sweetest people I've ever met in the food industry. There were 8 of us, and the owner kindly brought extra chairs and pushed tables together so we could all sit comfortably. He brought us iced water, and when we asked for water without ice, he smiled so warmly and immediately replaced it. I ordered the grilled pork banh mi, and it was hands down the freshest banh mi I've ever had. The bread was perfectly crispy, and every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it paired really well with the banh mi. They also offer bakery items. I tried the ube pastry, which was very enjoyable. Someone at our table ordered the veg pho, and I tasted the broth it was delicious. I'll definitely be trying it next time, although it'll be hard to choose between the pho and the banh mi!

This is one of the best bahn mi I have tried. Their service was great, we were greeted and the then we ordered on the counter. I ordered the pork bahn mi and asked for it to be spicy and they added spicy sauce. The bread was crunchy and soft which was amazing and the pork was delicious. The place has a lot of seating, parking can be difficult and we parked on the other side of the highway. Would for sure visit the place again

Very friendly mom and pop shop with many options on the menu to choose from. Theres Bahn Mi and Pho and pastries available to order. I got the Pho and it was made with a well balanced flavor that was not overpowered in any direction. Theres plenty of indoor seating and space for you to enjoy eating inside. The staff was very friendly and attentive and I felt very welcomed inside. Id highly recommend anyone drop by for a bite to eat.

Rise & Shine, the intoxicating aroma of Vietnamese banh mi, pho, and fresh pastries are what the doctor ordered. This was my first meal in Seattle once we got settled and wow, delicious! This is the type of place you want in your neighborhood. Family owned, nothing flashy, just honest food at a good price. Gotta give a shoutout to the young gentleman behind the counter who was friendly as could be, while running around the dining room and filling to-go orders. Special Combo Sandwich // The No. 1 or "Dac Biet" (special). 3 types of meat: Vietnamese version of mortadella, a headcheese or terrine of pig ear and snout, and ham; garnished with mayo, pate, daikon, cucumber, jalapeño, cilantro, and onion served on homemade baked French baguettes. I came here for one thing only: a banh mi. And damnit, this is a GREAT one. Traditional, umami bomb of salty meats, flavor contrast from the veggies, all assembled perfectly in between crunchy bread. Yum, yum, yum, I should've ordered two! In addition, I took home an order of pho and a frozen Vietnamese coffee for my wife, and she was in heaven. I tried both and they were textbook. Should I move to the Seattle suburbs to live around the corner from Rise & Shine? I won't rule it out!!!!

Family run business with excellent customer service. They are open about wait times and are accommodating to special requests. Thoroughly enjoy eating there and is easily a hidden gem none of us want to share.

    Grilled Beef Sandwich!

I tried R&S because the online reviews were positive, and I have to say I agree with them. I tried for the Crispy Pork Belly, but they were sold out that day. I will definitely be back and call earlier to make sure I experience that sizzling pork concoction. But the Grilled Beef was delicious too. Great service, can't wait for my next sandwich!

    Raspberry pastry

Fast service, warm and fresh food, and a clean restaurant. To be honest, one of the best bánh mì sandwiches I have ever had. 15/10. No complaints. And it's very reasonably priced. I grabbed the raspberry pastry which I ended up eating for dinner (nothing like dessert for a meal). It was so soft and the raspberry filling was delicious. My type of dessert cause I am not a sweets person and it wasn't overly sweet. The parking lot is pretty small, I was lucky to get the one open spot when I came in.

    Pork sausage banh mi

Hadn't been to Rise & Shine Bakery for awhile but happened to be in the area and needed a quick bite for a late lunch. I was excited to get the meatball banh mi again but they were sold out of that one. I opted for the pork sausage one, because the guy working said it's made in house. So good and glad I got it! Service is always friendly and welcoming. I need to come back to try one of the specials on the weekend, still.

    Black Milk Tea w/ Boba
    Generous Y.

Easy to miss store on the side of Highway 99 unless you're actively looking for it. Yellow building past the Public Storage. There's a small parking lot but many people place to-go orders so traffic in and out of the lot is constant. It's nice to have a banh mi spot closer to home than our go-to in Lynnwood. Also snagged boba because it was available and there weren't too many comments around it. Grilled Pork and Fried Egg Banh Mi - they do not skimp on ingredients here and each sandwich is a very filling meal. Prices are pretty fair, falling in the middle of the banh mi price range I've experienced. Definitely add a fried egg to whatever banh mi you opt for because it enhances everything. As a bakery, I believe they make their baguettes in house and they're fluffier (more airy) than usual. However, this somewhat conflicts with the toasted, crispy aspect. It comes down to preference but I lean towards a more crispy baguette (the fluffy was a nice change though). Black Milk Tea w/ Boba - firstly, I guess they don't actually have regular boba and instead substitute crystal boba. Makes sense because it would be a hassle to prepare boba everyday when it's not a big specialty, but I was expecting regular boba when looking at the menu so slightly misled. Besides that, the drink was actually solid, more on the creamier side of milk teas (tastes like creamer). Lots of ice though and not entirely sure you can order less ice. While I'd still prefer an actual boba spot, this is a nice fallback option for milk tea if you're already in the area because there aren't many decent spots towards Shoreline.

Meat and egg bhan mi... yumm!!

I've heard about this place and been wanting to try it, I'm glad I did. The rumors were right, the bread for their bhan mi sandwiches aren't hard like most places, it's a pleasantly satisfying sandwich with meat and egg for $10. They're busy so definitely order ahead. They don't offer prepared drinks through their online ordering portals but when they're less busy, I will try it.

Pandan cream bun, Vietnamese coffee - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

I went here for a quick lunch that is very takeout friendly. On a Friday it was not busy at all, but they make the sandwich to order so do expect a small wait for it. We got the special combo sandwich, pork belly sandwich, Vietnamese coffee, and pandan cream bun. Total was about $32 after tax which is decent but could be better value versus the comparables in the area. The combo sandwich is pretty good. It tasted like the usual banh mi fixings except in sandwich form. I prefer it this way so there is more filling that you can eat per bite and it hurts the jaw less from the super crunchiness of the bread. The pork belly sandwich is very flavorful but the pork belly has like 90% fat. The Vietnamese coffee is strong and the pandan cream bun was a nice, affordable sweet to finish off as a dessert. 4.5 stars overall but I rounded down because the combo sandwich on website and recent menus were $8.50 but today it was $10, so it was a bit of a small sticker shock.

Interior decor is nice, could use better lighting and there are many tables for the space. Although busy staff were attentive and food was prepared promptly. Started with fresh rolls which had a fried skin inside (nice texture contrast). Hubby tried their pork chop plate which was the special. He was not a fan of how sweet it was, I agreed that it could use more salt and aromatics (fish sauce and lemongrass for ex). I got the BBH which I requested spicy, they were forth coming and notified me that they were out of pork blood. The broth could have used more salt and funk but overall had a good savory umami. There was a fair amount of tender meat and Vietnamese ham with not many noodles (which I prefer).

    Special Menu? (Jul 2025)

I used to eat banh mi all the time when I lived near Little Saigon in San Jose. After moving to Michigan, I was met with very Americanized banh mi - ones on French baguettes with the most generic "beef" or "pork" as options. No cha lua, no bi heo, heck, not even pate as a fatty base? No thanks! I had no idea that the Seattle-area had a good banh mi culture until I decided visit Rise & Shine for lunch while my car was getting repaired nearby. This bakery not only serves excellent sandwiches, but they also have interesting baked goodies (Pandan coconut! Ube cream! Thai Tea bun!?). I didn't pick any up since I had purchased some from another bakery earlier in the day, but I'll have to visit again just for the buns. Special Combo Sandwich ($10) - Firstly, I'm not sure why they cut the sandwich diagonally and put it in a takeout container instead of serving it in paper. I guess it's just a stylistic choice? At any rate, this sandwich includes three types of meat, including gio thu headcheese that's gelatinous, peppery and snappy, with rich umami, slices of cha lua, bouncy with great meaty fish sauce umami, and thinly sliced ham. In terms of veggies, they have the classic combination of pickled carrot and daikon with cucumber and cilantro. When ordering, they ask about the inclusion of jalapeno. Even when added, it's only a couple of slices that add a mild spiciness to the sandwich. The base of the sandwich includes sweet and creamy mayo and a super umami fatty boost from pate. Everything is on a baguette that doesn't have a super crackly crust (which I prefer) with good chewiness inside. I haven't had a bahn mi this good since moving from San Jose. (5/5) I wonder if their shredded chicken banh mi includes cha bong ga, another of my favorites. I will have to ask them next time I visit! Bathrooms - Two rooms

I'm not sure if it's because something changed on the side of the bakery (maybe recipe or personnel changes?) or on my side, having tried more bakeries around the area. On our last visit we bought two loaves of bread to accompany a butter tasting. Both loaves I found to be not nearly as high quality as I remember previously. Pane Bello ($9) - The crust basically doesn't exist in this bread. It's soft and leathery and doesn't give that satisfying crispness of a well baked bread. The interior, while having good crumb structure, is particularly dry and almost crumbly. The taste is mild, perfect for pairing with higher end butters. (3/5) Parmesan Black Pepper Sourdough ($9) - This batard has similar texture as compared to the Pane Bello. It has the addition of plenty of black pepper baked inside, spaced out rather evenly, allowing a peppery bite every time. There's salty and fatty parmesan baked on top, giving a caramelized salty umami. It definitely has more flavor than the Pane Bello, but suffers from the same textural issues. (3/5) We purchased both loaves at 10AM on a Sunday morning and they were consumed within 2.5 hours, so I don't think it's an issue with storage. I ate a bit of their regular foccacia at a work event too. It has a good crispy exterior and is salted well on the top. Unfortunately the interior isn't the best, having a really dense, chewy crumb. I'm honestly not sure what happened. I really loved The Cottage when I first moved here 1.5 years ago. Now? I have a number of bakeries I'd choose over here in a heartbeat.

This was at 8AM - first time I've visited an 85 this early and I wasn't expecting it to actually be decently busy! They also had the boba ready at 8AM and I couldn't resist getting a drink as well. Boba Milk Tea, Medium, 25% Sweet ($4.85) - I've only gotten boba in the afternoon from 85C, most recently from the Lynnwood location, and it wasn't very good at all. I'm guessing they don't rotate the boba at all, so ordering it earlier is better. The boba at 8AM is actually pretty good with a surprisingly decent chew and bounce and a good sweetness on the exterior that's also sticky and soft. The pearls aren't really consistent in size, but are consistent in texture, which is more important. For the tea - 50% sweet is usually way too sweet for me at 85C. 25% is good and not too sweet. Unfortunately there isn't much tea flavor and it mainly tastes milky and creamy. Milk Tea Rating: 3/5 Boba Rating: 4/5 White Chocolate Strawberry ($2.60) - Very soft bun with the typical artificial strawberry flavor. The bun is super soft with a nice subtle bounce. Small pieces of softened white chocolate are embedded in the strawberry flavored cream on the inside. It's a well balanced bun that's sweet but not cloying. (4/5) Overall this is a pretty decent 85°C. Very convenient to visit to pick up fresh bread after grocery shopping at Ranch. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms
