I ordered my steak rare, but it arrived closer to medium and had to be sent back. Unfortunately, it took approximately 30 minutes for the replacement to arrive. The second steak was better, but the delay was disappointing. The private room where our group of 18 was seated was another concern. The room was too warm (the management knew it kept say it will get cooler after 3 hour it did not happen ) and too small for our group, with two round tables that made conversation difficult. The overall atmosphere was not particularly comfortable for a group of that size. The service was also only fair. While the servers were courteous, the overall level of service did not meet the expectations I would have for a restaurant of this type. Considering the food preparation issues, the long wait for the replacement steak, the uncomfortable room, and the mediocre service, I would not recommend The Rusty Pelican for a group event or special occasion. read more

I'm a big fan of Rusty Pelican, their happy hour is one of my favorite to go too so when I heard I was going to Brunch I was very excited. Our service was okay, we had to wait a bit for a few things but other than that our server was attentive. We were sitting outside by the water under an umbrella so we weren't getting too much sun. It was a beautiful slightly windy day outside and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! The seafood tower had sashimi and sushi rolls on the bottom level, oysters on the second level, and two lobster tails and shrimp on the very top layer of the tower. Everything was fresh and tasted so good. We asked for extra sauces and soy sauce and it took all couple times of asking but we eventually got them. The wine we order was delicious, they brought out ice buckets with water so it was chilled. We had Mer Soleil Reserve Santa Lucia Highland Chardonnay. It was light and refreshing. The fries that were a side with my tacos were delicious! I believe they were truffle fries, they were so fresh and crispy. I would definitely order it again! For a restaurant with this reputation and these prices, I expected much better. The dishes lacked flavor, were poorly prepared, and simply weren't worth the cost. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we paid extra for a waterfront table specifically to watch the fireworks. However, the fireworks didn't take place until after the restaurant had closed, so we never got to see them. Paying a premium for a view that we couldn't actually enjoy felt misleading and left us disappointed. The location is beautiful, and the staff did a good job, but the quality of the food and the unmet expectation of the fireworks experience made this visit not worth the price. We came to Rusty Pelican on New Year's Day, and while there was a bit of a wait, they offered champagne in the waiting area, which was a really nice and classy touch. We were first seated inside, but we were wanting to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful Miami waterfront views. Since we were a group of 8, they initially seated us at two tables of four right next to each other. We asked if the tables could be pushed together, but at first we were told it wasn't allowed. It was also pretty cold outside, even though there were heat lamps. I asked one of the staff members to move a lamp closer, but it was barely adjusted, so I tried to move it myself and was told we weren't allowed to touch them. Thankfully, our server Alb stepped in and completely turned things around he moved the tables together, adjusted the heat lamps, and genuinely tried to make us comfortable. Unfortunately, with all the confusion, it took over an hour just to place our order, and since none of us had eaten since the year before, no one was particularly happy. I started with the empanadas, which were an amazing surprise. the birria filling literally melted in your mouth, and the salsa verde with Oaxaca cheese paired perfectly. The they frits were a bit underwhelming for me. they were essentially fries topped with crème fraîche and red and black caviar, and I didn't feel the red caviar really worked with the dish. The entrée was the sea bass we shared. It was unbelievably soft, buttery, and fell apart with every bite. It came with mashed plantains, which was a first for me and such a unique but perfect pairing I really liked it. Dessert was the best part. the lava cake was rich, indulgent, and delicious, paired with cookies and cream ice cream.
