Cheesesteak, Fries
Rose E.

I stopped in for lunch, and WOW, SO packed! From the crowd size, my expectations grew. I remember enjoying their Cheesesteak Sub from WAY back...but for one reason or another, I haven't been back for a long time. So I ordered their Cheesesteak and Fries again. Again, my expectations were huge...given my nostalgic memory and the crowd size. Unfortunately, the foods didn't quite meet it. The Cheesesteak Sub was good...but a bit short from great. Maybe it's just me and my Asian taste buds, but the sub just tasted too bland. I poured a ton of hot sauce, yet still, Meh. It was the right amount of greasy...not dry, but not too much (which I really don't care for!). The Fries, however, were solid. I'm not a huge fan of fries anymore either...but these were really good versions. I've been craving a good Cheesesteak, so I'm glad I revisited...and am glad they're still doing good business. I'm also not a huge fan of hand-helds, but my 2 boys are...so I may return with them sometime in the future.

Stumbled upon this randomly while looking for something to eat on my lunch break. It was quick & simple but very satisfying. I am not generally a burger type of guy but I hate a taste for one and they delivered. A mom & pop type of vibe.

Some interesting decor!

This is one of the best burgers in Charlotte in my opinion! It's an old school joint that has been around since the 80s and they serve up delicious sandwiches along with burgers and classic deli sides including a delicious potato salad. They are low-key and located in a shopping center so they might be easy to miss, but please do yourself a favor and stop in for some simple but delicious food along with the charm of a family run neighborhood deli.

This is a really nice out-of-the-way burger joint and has a reputation of having the best french fries in Charlotte. I tried the grilled chicken sandwich and my dad got the mushroom and Swiss burger. Both of them were cooked perfectly were juicy and had a great taste. The staff was very very friendly and accommodating. The food was made while we waited which was only about seven or eight minutes.

First time at Rusty's, and boy have I been missing out. My late grandpa used to always talk about this place, and now I know why. They have a broad range of menu items, and they have weekday specials. This place can get busy but the tables are first come, first serve and they turn fast. There won't be a long wait unless you see it out of the door. The South Charlotte cheesesteak with beef and mushrooms added was phenomenal. I'd say top two of the ones I have had in Charlotte. The bread is definitely wasn't made it. Crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. The Reuben was delicious too - sooo cheesy. The burgers were large and flavorful, with plenty of bacon on it. What a great staple of a deli!

Went for the first time Saturday and it definitely won't be my last. I got the Ruben and was so happy with my selection. The bread was buttery and toasted perfectly, the flavorful meat and BEAUTIFULLY melted cheese made for a perfect cheese pull. I went around 1pm in a Saturday and the service was so quick and kind. I also tried a bite of cheesesteak as well as bacon cheeseburger- both fantastic. Next try? One of the loaded potatoes. I'll be back soon!

Create your own sandwich: Pastrami and corn beef on a croissant with grilled onions, pickles, mayo, and mustard

One of the things I miss about living in upstate NY is the Delis. The meats seem fresher, and the sandwiches taste better. This deli was recommended to me, and it did not disappoint. Being able to create my own sandwich made it easy to sele t what I want I stead of relying on the menu. The croissant was soft and delicious. I will definitely be back here when im in the Charlotte area.

We were looking for lighter fare and the menu had so many options to choose from. The lavender honey butter with the warm bread surprised me the most - the bread was fluffy and cloud like and divine with the butter. We nearly ordered another one, but it was just so decadent. The mezze platter had lots of great bites for our varied palates, loved the whipped ricotta and all the olives and fried naan. Harrisa roasted carrots were our idea of something healthy, and they may have been nutritious but tasted just as good as any main dish. Our server kindly warned us to be careful of the fresno chiles on the pork belly dish, and we appreciated that. They were quite spicy but very good with the slaw and pork belly - excellent bite of savory, crunchy, spicy and just a wee bit sweet was possible on that one. We happened to benefit from some wine specials and opted for a couple of bottles of wine at a serious discount that were excellent. Our server made great recommendations and made sure our glasses never ran dry. The manager also checked in on our group but was never intrusive. We enjoyed the booth seating near the window and the vibe was definitely upbeat but casual. It hit the spot!

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

The cheese was delicious as well. Will definitely order this again. For the mains, we went with the Chicken and Dumplings and the Southern Fried Steak. The Chicken and Dumplings were amazing as well. I always worry about the balance of chicken vs dumplings but this was very well balanced and delicious. The dumplings were cooked well and the chicken was very flavorful. The Southern Fried Steak was fantastic and well. No complaints about this dish either. Every component was well made and delicious. The only complaint I had was the service really went down hill after we got our meal. Our server didn't check on us until she delivered the bill which was disappointing because initially the service started out so well. The Southern Pecan is a good spot. Stop in and grab a bite.

At noon on Sunday it was jammed, so I ambled in and sat at the bar with a bunch of strangers. They weren't strangers by the time I left. The ambiance is really, really welcoming. Things I loved about Mother's before I even took a bite: the friendly staff (the bartenders were affable despite the crowds!), the "get breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner anytime" menu, the extensive drinks menu and the flexibility of ordering. Example: the bartender worked with the gentleman to my left to cobble together his à la carte choices into the least expensive meal. So, so accommodating! I had trouble deciding what to order and ended up choosing something the lady to my right had ordered: Melissa's Steak Benny. I'd been craving eggs Benedict and it seemed like a solid choice. At the last moment, I swapped out the hash browns for grits, despite the hash browns looking crispy and delicious, as I'm more a grits girl. Best decision of the day. Best grits I have had in Charlotte. Hands down. Perfectly flavored with without a trace of residue from the butter or cheese it contained. So good I didn't even add my usual hot sauce! (And btw, they have an array of hot sauces available alongside the usual salt and pepper at the table.) As for the dish, I was a little dubious about the drizzle of A1 steak sauce atop the hollandaise, but boy, was I wrong. The smokiness of the steak sauce softened the richness of the hollandaise and was brilliant with the sautéed onions and mushrooms. The hanger steak was prepared (close to) medium rare as requested, and I highly recommend not going past medium because hanger steak is easy to overcook. (My neighbor's plate was delivered well done and had to be sent back, with lots of apologies from the staff; she said despite the sauce it was far too chewy.) I ended up being able to cut my steak with my fork, always a sign of the good stuff, and the English muffin was toasted enough that it didn't turn to mush at all, not even the last bite. I cleaned my plate. A note about brunch: on the weekends be patient because it's super busy, but if you show up in pajamas before noon, your meal is discounted 20%. Honestly, what more can you ask, getting rewarded by showing up in comfy clothes?!? Mother's immediately became my go-to brunch place; I don't drink much but the Bloody Mary there is calling my name. I can't wait to go back, perhaps for supper.

I always enjoy coming in and sitting at the bar, waiting for my table because of how busy it is. I could get a reservation, but I'd rather hang out, and order an app, and people watch or have some conversation with the locals. I don't often drink, but the prickly pear margarita on the patio in the spring/summer is 10/10. The bartender Jay is always on it, he has a great memory, and will put in your order before you get the words out. I've had everything from the filet mignon to the sushi, and seasonal fish options during the holidays. Everything has been pretty great every time. The only critique I have for the food is, with the calamari. Stop adding peppers onto the pile, you can't tell what's calamari and what's peppers. There are often more peppers than calamari. All in all this place can live off word of mouth alone. If you go more than once, you typically see the same groups of individuals every week. And in today's volatile market, that's how you last. Pro tip: You can't go wrong with any dessert, the sundae, carrot cake, or brownie...it's all worth the calorie splurge.

It was easy to make a reservation on their website, and I recommend a reservation as it was very busy on a Saturday night. The interior has quite an upscale feeling with dim lighting and an overall premium feeling. I was seated right away, and the server was quite helpful and friendly. I had the charred grapefruit cocktail which was flavorful and balanced. Delicious! I was curious about the deviled eggs, and the server mentioned that I could try a half order. They were delicious! The sugar bacon accompanying them was truly delicious as well! I also had the house salad with honey mustard dressing which was a delicious salad with fresh vegetables, eggs, and bacon! For an entree I had the "prime meatloaf" which had a very nice presentation (see photo). I substituted a baked potato with bacon and chives. The potato was delicious with a perfectly fluffy filling. The meatloaf was flavorful and tender, but the sauce was a bit salty and overpowered the meatloaf. Maybe ask for the sauce on the side if you try this dish. For dessert I had the key lime pie. It had a wonderfully tart, custardy filling. The macadamia nut crust was almost a little bit too crunchy, and I would've preferred a more traditional graham cracker crust. Overall, this was a very tasty dining experience!
