Rusty's is literally a "rustic" little pizza place walking distance from the SB train station. It has some classic video games and a room you can reserve for parties. The pizza was delicious and they have a small salad bar. Look wise...most of the booths are stained or ripped, but it was "clean" for the most part, as well as the bathroom..just a little dated looking. We tried for a fancy restaurant however our two year old had a meltdown so we called it a day and went to Rusty's. Pizza was decent and there are a few arcade games for the kids to hang out at. The space is also very large and the tables and booths are set pretty far apart so there's lots of rooms for strollers and large parties of ten or more. You order and grab at the cashier. The pizza is 4 , but the service definitely 2 . The older woman at the register is probably over tourists but she's probably been there or owns the place which is why she still works there. So this review has nothing to do with the many problems that Covid has had with restaurants all over the country. This is completely based on food quality. I understand that Rusty's is a staple for people who live in Santa Barbara, but sentimentality aside, this is some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten, save for something in my freezer that's been there for over a year. First of all, I ordered a plain cheese pizza with extra cheese. What I got was a cold cheese pizza with a regular amount of cheese and I also ordered buffalo wings that were fleshy and undercooked. The house salad was excellence...maybe the best pizza delivery salad we've ever enjoyed. The only thing preventing a perfect score was the wings were literally swimming in sauce. Rustys is our favorite pizza joint in town. Even though the prices are insane, it's worth it to order their pizzas because the quality is so great. We've been loyal customers since I was a child. I've lived in SB for 36 years. In the past year, the quality of service has declined. 6/10 orders are completely wrong. Either wrong toppings, crust, not including ranch or sodas. The most common mistake we've experienced is them not using the little plastic pizza tables. The last pizza I got was completely crushed and everything was on the inside lid. Rusty's was just as good as I remembered. I went to college at UCSB and had many good memories of Rusty and the delicious pizza. I went back last weekend to SB with my boyfriend for a mini vacation at the funk zone and we stopped by Rusty's because I wanted him to try the pizza. And it was just as delicious as I remembered. He loved it too and he's very picky about his pizza. The service was good, the pizza delicious, we got chicken wings and those were really good too. The entire indoor seating area is closed and the arcade games are out of order, soda choices are limited - of course all covid precautions. While I do understand that covid has made many companies need to pivot to continue to run their businesses, it would be nice to see companies pivot toward customer experience and not just business convenience. For example with this pizza place there's an opportunity for proper sit down / waiter service to be given in the outdoor seating area instead of customer seating themselves and having to go up to the counter every time Something is needed. I was hungry for a pizza but only had a short time before catching my train. I'm lucky this place was a block away. I ended up ordering a pie with Canadian bacon. Service here is very fast. In no time I was on my way back to the train station. I enjoyed my pie very much. The sauce was perfect, and at was loaded with cheese and Canadian bacon.
