Took my granddaughter for dinner after a fun afternoon together. The food was mostly tasty. My granddaughter complained the chicken was spicy but she thoroughly enjoyed to queso. The service was above average but nothing spectacular. The biggest complaint is the overweening scent of bleach and the bleach wet floors in the bathroom. When I arrived the bar had quite a few customers. The only place for me to sit was in a dirty space. The bartender came and asked if I was ordering-in or to go. Without cleaning the space in front of me first, I was annoyed. I ordered the appetizer sampler and it was just ok. No flavors stood out, but nothing was awful. The tacos were probably the best items on the plate, followed by the Flautitas and lastly the tostadas. None of the food they had , had flavor and was a chore to even taste. The refried beans on the tostada were so bland without taste that the cheese on top of it was made bland also. I realize it sounds like I am throwing this restaurant under the bus and that is exactly my intent! This was not only a waste of money, but more importantly time! I want to try different restaurants and explore different styles of cooking different flavors with different ingredients. Crazy we stopped in by chance, ambiance was so inviting, clean , beautiful , friendly atmosphere. Greeted by Alyssa G. but she was also our server. Was seated by a screaming toddler with a dad who did nothing and mom who just yelled back at the toddler (toddler was also throwing things off the table, including a bowl of rice that an employee had to come mop up). Not that I expect the restaurant staff to say something to the family, but they could've at least asked our table if we wanted to move somewhere else. Really made our meal unenjoyable. The room that we sat in had the metal portion of the tire all over the ceiling! We got chips and dip and the Creamy Jalepeno dip was ranch-forward with slight spice. We also ordered guacamole which was flavored well and very creamy. My friend recommended I get an enchilada with boom boom sauce so I got the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Enchilada and was not disappointed. The portion sizes were large and the sauce was warm and cheesy! The restaurant is big. There are plenty of seats for big and small parties. My server was attentive and provided great service. Food came out fast. Unfortunately, my ground beef crispy tacos weren't warm. From the refried beans to the rice, to the meat, and to the crispy tacos, everything were room temperature. The only saving grace was the crispy tacos which were very crispy. I also enjoyed the chips with the spicy salsa. Love the spice level of the salsa. The compuesto queso was cheesy. Chuy's has always been a favorite of mine, but this experience really solidified it for me. My dad, girlfriend & I had lunch here over the weekend. The bartender, Ian, was sat with my dad at our table when my girlfriend & I arrived. They were talking about my recently departed stepmom, who my dad would take on dates here quite regularly. The bartender was so unbelievably kind to my father--he knew my stepmom. Alyssa (waitress) showed the same empathy having never (to my knowledge) met my stepmom. Alyssa is a very sweet soul; Chuy's is lucky to have these two working for them. The food was great as always. This experience was very meaningful to me. Why did I come here? I was told it's pretty good, it's not. First of all this place has middle school cafeteria seating. Server kept rushing us. Wanted us to order before we even looked at the menu. I have a question though... why am I getting ranch dressing with my chips and salsa??? Just weird. It's unfortunate that you can't do 1/2 star ratings as this either gets a 3 star or gets the same score as my prior Gringo's rating (a 4), though the two are on a very different level. Ultimately, I had to go 3 as I can't do 3.5 and this chain should not be confused with a 4 star level place. Ambiance is solid here s you eat surrounded by hubcaps and in an environment that screams texmex. The food is ok. The one thing that sets this place apart is the jalapeño salsa that you get with the chips. It is the most flavorful jalapeño cream sauce I've ever had and something that is worth the trip to this restaurant. Other than that... the place is solid but not worth writing home over. Service was good though a bit sloppy. They were somewhat busy but still, missing basic parts of the order or even being messy in spilling sauces as you serve is not a good look. We visited this location along my boyfriend's cousin's family as a rather large group. The server was really friendly and accommodating, but often nowhere to be found. Granted, it was a Sunday evening and they were a bit busy considering this fact, but I didn't see her running around so there's that. The food was alright. I really wish they would get more vegetarian options for their menu! I was left with 2-3 options total, one of which was an appetizer (quesadillas). They were good, but not worth coming back for. I haven't had TEX-MEX in a while and this was the first place that came to mind. I also remembered that Chuy's had this ranch salsa dip that was super addicting and delicious. When our waiter brought out the chips and the ranch dip. I was instantly brought back to the first time I tried it. I do not know what they used to make it, but it definitely provides me with a reason to go to Chuy's. This was my first time coming back to Chuy's since they first opened in my area. I ended up ordering the quesadillas and a chicken tortilla soup because it was chilly out. I enjoyed both of the dishes and their flavors. The chicken tortilla soup ended up being my favorite with the melted queso at the bottom of the bowl and the soft flour tortilla that was included with the soup. Inside, you are transformed to a colorful and fun environment with palm trees and lights scattered all over. There is even merchandise that you can purchase in the front of the store while waiting on your table. Y'all... I came in tonight with my dad and sat at the bar. It wasn't too crazy busy yet so luckily we missed the crowd. Ian was the bartender and when I tell you this man didn't skip a single beat, he had chips and salsa, drinks and an appetizer out for us with in the first ten minutes, if that, of being there. There was another bartender there with him, Issac, and he was so nice too. It's so good with their hatch green chile sauce, which was really spicy and fragrant! My massive burrito also came with fluffy Mexican rice and creamy refried beans. In addition, they're very generous with their complimentary chips and salsa. I really liked their green chile sauce, but their red salsa was good too. Two servers were in the room. One was helping the diners behind me and the other was helping the diners behind my companion. The female server looked at us but said or did nothing. The male server avoided catching my eye as he returned two or three times to the other diners. We had already been sitting there for some time like this, when my companion returned from using the restroom on the other side of the restaurant, still just sitting there as if we were invisible. He went to let the manager know we seemed to be some confusion about who was our server and the manager responded they'd get it right on it. Chuy's is one of my go to tex mex places in Houston. My first experience was actually a few years ago in Austin visiting my sister at school. I have been hooked on their thin thin tortila chips, pico de gallo type salsa, and big as yo face buritos ever since. I love the chips and salsa here because the chips are so thin that I feel less guilty eating them. I try to stay away from the creamy salsa (even though it is delicious) but I have no problems downing the red salsa. I enjoy that the salsa is almost like pico de gallo. I am a creature of habit so I usually go for one of the smothered burritos. My top two are the steak burrito with spicy green chili sauce or oven roasted chicken burrito with chili con carne. The spicy steak burrito is just that, spicy! I typically down two or three glasses of water if I order that one. But it is so tasty that I am willing to feel the burn for a while. Chuy's serves two types of rice, a green chile rice and then the traditional mexican rice. Both are delicious. There will usually be a wait on a Friday night. If the weather is cooperating, check the patio to see if there are empty tables. Otherwise enjoy the unique decor and hilarious shirts on the wall.
