I've made so many trips to takeout breakfast, lunch and dinner and never once disappointed with the quality of my meals. The food is simply amazing. Carmelo's is is very modest in size and decor but who care since the super power is in the kitchen. They have some of the best fajita beef enchiladas I've ever had. The meat is flavorful and tender and the gravy is incredible. Their charro beans or refried with rice completes the meal leaving you very satisfied. You can expect a warm greeting from the staff and attention to details to ensure your order is just as you requested. The place is small enough to feel like a dive, but has enough seating to accommodate large groups. The vibe is sort of like a Tex-Mex diner, albeit with hordes of cultural knickknacks adorning their ceilings and walls. The bathrooms are clean and the casual atmosphere is a win. Whether it's a big pile of nachos, wet burritos, and some very tasty enchiladas, Carmelo's excels in this arena. They also serve a mean carne guisada, solid tacos al carbon, and even offer a weekend menudo special. The fajitas are always a draw, but I would aim for the enchiladas verdes or mole. I'm a sucker for the massive burritos and crispy chimichangas + flautas, and will occasionally consider their overly oily queso flameado with chorizo. I personally think lunch or weekend brunch is the best time to be here, but dinner is always an option as well. Apart from the food, the best part of the experience is the staff. They're friendly, bilingual (Spanish and English), and very attentive. Parking is plentiful and I've never had to wait to get a table. My recommendation? The drink we ordered tasted like tap water, and while dining, we overheard staff making negative comments about us in Spanish. My mom speaks Spanish and clearly understood they were speaking about us simply for asking for a few extra items. This was unprofessional and made us feel very uncomfortable. I'm always searching for good authentic Mexican food. I recently found this family owned establishment and must say I'm very happy. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. She checks on us frequently to make sure everything is good. We each got a plate and they are big enough to share. The carne guisada was delicious and tasted like it was homemade. I don't typically leave reviews but me and my friend came to Carmelo's an hour or so before close and still received thee BEST service we have had in a while. We are from San Antonio so the standards for Mexican food is high and this did not disappoint. The waitress was soooooo kind & attentive, literally amazing, gave us 3 fresh chips & queso. The atmosphere felt like you were in someone's house who loved you. The food was delicious & portions are generous. (The pictures do NOT do it justice, we were knuckles deep already). We got enchiladas verde (9/10), chicken flautas (17/10), fajita tacos (8/10), beef quesadillas (13/10), rice (12/10), chips n salsa (20/10). My only regret is we tipped like 26% but we really shoulda tipped the 30% because for the service to be that great 20 minutes to close....spectacular. Neighborhood family operated Tex-Mex shack. My brother and I stopped by for lunch. Lunch started with free chips and salsa which were very good. He went with the ranchero chicken enchilada/bean chalupa combo plate. I did the ground beef Chile relieno combo plate. Rice and refied bean came with the combos. Both plates were delicious. My brother said the foods were not too salty which he appreciated. Prices were reasonable and table service was excellent. This shack gets full during lunch hours. Cute hole in the wall Tex Mex place in old Sugar Land. You can easily drive right by it. My mom suggested it as a casual family run place. We were served chips and salsa upon sitting down (my parents requested the green salsa with tomatillo and jalapeno). I preferred the red salsa. We decided to all share to try a bunch of stuff. My favorite was the shrimp enchiladas. Great sauce and a fair amount of shrimp. The beef enchilada was alright. Good amount of beef but I prefer more cheese and didn't love the sauce. The taco salad was a bit of a letdown. It was fine, not exciting. Decent amount of meat but with "fajita beef" I was expecting bigger pieces of meat rather than chopped up. My mom however appreciated the chopped aspect, easier to eat. The service was excellent, refilling the chips and drinks before they even got empty. We love coming to Carmelo's! After 3 years in Sugar Land we finally found this lovely little gem hidden in a strip mall with a lot of construction going on. The inside is perfect -- fast easy service and we've never encountered a wait around dinner rush hours the 5 times we've been. I particularly like the tacos Al pastor -- my favorite kind of seasoning and flavor. Its like Mexican shawarma! It's so good even my picky eating kids love it. Flavor without overkill on the spice and chiles. My wife loves the Mole Enchiladas, and we both always have the watermelon margs, which are well flavored and not shy on the tequila. The food that you get for the price is amazing and well worth it. The burritos are HUGE and really fill you up. They don't have thaaat much meat but it does have rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce. You can also opt to get cheese on it as well. They give you free chips and salsa. This place is constantly on my mind, and my mind is already quite a cluttered mess at times. Carmelo's is truly everything you want in a Tex-mex spot. I've had their breakfast tacos, mixed meats quesadilla, horchata, and margs...I would reccommend these all 100% to a friend. Not very pricey, solid & classic taste, well flavored, and a very vibrant, cultural atmosphere. Their quesadillas were definitely a stand out, loved the cheese they mixed with the meet and it had this delightful bite!! Pairs great with their house made guac. My only complaint is for the price, I've had quesadillas that were way cheaper and much bigger. They cut up their quesadillas here into small pieces. Also the beef could've been a bit more seasoned.
