A group of 4 of us stopped in for a Sunday funday happy hour. Ruth Chris is located in the south Barrington arboretum and offers complimentary valet parking. We sat in the bar/lounge area which was cozy and seemed fairly modern. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. I noticed he was also working behind the bar. Even though he was kept busy, the service did not lack at all. My husband and I shared a blueberry mojito, the chicken sandwich, and a cheeseburger. The mojito was full of ice so idk if much of a drink was actually there. The food was OK. I didn't love it, but also didn't hate it. Who doesn't love a Sunday Happy Hour! Ruth Chris offers discounts on certain food and drinks Sun-Fri 4-6pm in the lounge. When checking in at the host stand, the hostess did not seem knowledgeable about where we could be seated for the happy hour. Thankfully within the lounge, you can sit at the bar or the adjacent tables. They have a specialty bar menu where certain wines, cocktails, shareables, and sandwiches are at a discount rate. Even discounted, the items were far too expensive for portions and quality. Shareables ranged from $6-10 off, sandwiches $2-6 off, and cocktails $4 off. For drinks, I got the Pomegranate Martini which was well balanced and not too acidic. My husband got the happy hour Cab and enjoyed it. For food, I got the Zucchini Fries which were tasty and crispy. My husband got the steak sandwich which came with fries. Our friends got the chicken sandwich and cheeseburger which they thought were okay. Their blueberry mojito had A LOT of ice in it so I assume they barely got much to drink. Overall, this experience was okay. The cliental is definitely older but the inside has a contemporary aesthetic. Our server was extremely nice and upbeat which was really enjoyable. We dined at this location for a private party in one of the back rooms and were impressed by the quality of the food, drink and service. I dined here years ago and don't recall it being that memorable, but this last experience truly surprised and delighted us. The wine and cocktail choices were vast and the wines offered range in region, tastes and price. The filet and lobster was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I had the grilled salmon and it flaked tenderly apart with a fork. The salmon was offered with a side of grilled shrimp. The servers in our room worked tirelessly throughout the party, keeping our water glass topped off and our plates cleared in between courses. The cheesecake with fresh fruit side was complimented by the Ruth's Coffee I had for dessert. We left feeling full, satisfied and thankful for a beautiful night out celebrating a friend's birthday. Ruth Chris was a very good . What happened? Happy hour is a nightmare sandwiches that used to be $10 are almost $20. Food quality was not very good. I ordered a medium steak sandwich. They gave me a well done steak sandwich. A steakhouse which is known for their steaks should know how to cook a medium steak. It should never have been served that way. Never again. There are so many good steakhouses Perry's the Capital Grille haven't ever been disappointed at either one of those places. read more

We were seated in a private booth and placed a Happy Anniversary I mentioned when placing our made a reservation for our 47th Wedding Anniversary dinner. Yasmine our server was absolutley delightful, she was A 1 from start to gloryious finish. She had told us she had somthing special for us for dessert, which I still orderd the cream brulee which was out of this world and she also set a tray down with a vanilla cream cheescake with berries and written in chocolate Happy 47th Anniversary, Everything was devine, my filet was perfect and the manager delivered my Aujus. I love Ruth's Chris so I was completely disappointed this last visit when my steak was subpar. Our waitress was great, very attentive. We sat in a booth tucked away in the back of the restaurant which was nice and quiet. I ordered the Ruth's Chris classic and upgraded to a ribeye, as I have in the past. My steak came out cooked perfectly ( I ordered it medium rare as it cooks a little more on the 500 degree plate!) however the flavor was lacking. The steak normally melts in my mouth and is full of flavor. Something was missing this time. I know I should have let the waitress know, but honestly if they had taken it back to remake it, I would have been full when the new steak arrived. Celebrated our anniversary at RC in South Barrington tonight. The manager and staff were so kind and welcoming. Our server Amanda was attentive and super sweet. She took such good care of us. She made our anniversary dinner special with her excellent service that came so naturally to her. The manager Gwen stopped to congratulate us too and check on dining experience. Now I know this is a chain restaurant so I cannot speak for other locations. But, my family and I had a great experience here for Mother's Day! We were seated fairly quickly. The seating was nice but lights were dim making it difficult for my parents to read the menu. Of course, this is typical of most steakhouses and fine dining. Our waiter was especially attentive but not overbearing. I went with the Mother's Day prix fixe menu, which consisted of a starter, entree, side, and dessert. I got the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette, fish and shrimp, creamed spinach, and cheesecake- all for $61! The portions were fairly large considering the price. You definitely get your moneys worth. Plus, everything tasted extraordinary. The house salad was fresh and had these crunchy croutons that tasted like parmesan. It balanced so well with the balsamic, which was not too strong. My fish was cooked perfectly, not dry at all. The creamed spinach did not feel too heavy and had me coming back for more. The cheesecake again was creamy and light. The perfect way to end the meal. My parents steaks were both well done when they had asked for medium. Our waiter was kind enough to take the steak back and have another one made. To make up for the delay in our meal, he kindly upgraded their desserts without charge. Such excellent service. My husband makes reservations here for special occasions. We celebrated life in March! Then last year and this year we celebrated our 30th and 31st Wedding Anniversaries! It's such a beautiful ambience. It's nice to be able to dress up or wear business casual. I prefer to dress up. The people are so wonderful that work there and treat you so special! I love my Filet Minion butterflied cut well done! It's perfect, we share either the Brussels sprouts or asparagus, mashed potatoes or au gratin potatoes. My Strawberry Daiquiri was delicious! This review is for the 4 to 6 happy hour in the bar area. During Happy Hour there is a pared down menu with the most delicious half priced sandwiches and appetizers. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer. It was one of the best ahi tuna dishes I've ever had. They put a peppery garlic type of rub on just the edge of the tuna and serve it with a delicate cucumber salad. The tuna is fresh and perfectly rare. OMG it melts in your mouth. Then I ordered the filet sandwich on a crusty baguette with the most perfect tarragon perfumed bearnaise sauce. If they bottled their sauce I would buy it to bring home. The sandwich is served with delicious fries. They also offer half price glasses of very good red wine. We ordered their Chopped salad which is served in a unique tower form with a nice dressing. I had a work holiday party here and was not disappointed. Jim assisted me throughout the process and offered suggestions for the event. We had a private room for 100 people. There was a dedicated bar and bartender. Service was exceptional. Appetizers were passed! We had rosemary shrimp, tomato and mozzarella caprese skewers and chicken cheese popper. They were all very good. We also had a charcuterie board and Mediterranean vegetable sand dips on a serving table. And a carving station with beef and turkey. We also had desserts. This was our second or third time visiting a Ruth's Chris Steak House, and our first at this location. To start with, this is a white tablecloth restaurant. What that means is that there is a Business Casual Dress Code. Shorts: Nope Sports themed T-shirts? Nope. Dress slacks: Yes They aren't turning people away, but for heaven's sake, please wear something more than blue jeans for a dinner like this. (And yes, a dress code is posted at the entrance in plain sight). We arrived a few minutes before our reservation, and were greeted and seated within moments of our arrival. The restaurant does offer free valet parking, but parking is so close and convenient, we didn't use it. The restaurant is typical for this chain - the lights are low, booths are quiet and separated, and the tables have white tablecloths. We were greeted by Emaly at our table, and a very generous portion of bread and butter were provided, along with water. The wine list is more of a Wine Catalog - prices range from reasonable to impressive. We had settled on one bottle of wine, and Emaly suggested a different bottle, so we went with that one. Good choice - it was a very good bottle of wine - Paul Hobbs Cabernet. We wanted to start off with something, so we had their Ahi Tuna appetizer. It was seared nicely, and the spicy sauce on the plate worked well with the tuna. Sides are "family" sized, so we split the Caesar Salad - the one negative was it didn't have anchovies, but otherwise was fresh. We also split a 1 pound baked potato, and an order of Creamed Spinach. For the entrees, I went with their 11 ounce filet, and my wife had their special which was filet medallions with shrimp. The entrees are served on plates which are around 500 degree F. You will be warned several times, and they really are that hot. I was searing my steak on the plate as I cut pieces off. The steaks were clearly the best, and were very tender and tasty. Our service was excellent. The restaurant was impeccably clean, and the bathrooms were very nice. We'll be back. Excellent food, service and wine options. read more

Although this was my first time at the South Barrington location, this restaurant is a family classic whichever restaurant we go to. The steak is delicious and flavorful, I would recommend the porterhouse for two, as it comes with both the filet and New York strip, already precut. We got mashed potatoes and spicy shrimp as sides and both were delicious. Our bill, with no drinks, was nearly $400 and for the food alone it may be hard to justify however the service is excellent and it's a great place for a grand, celebratory dinner. read more

We always would order the cheesecake dessert to go with the family whenever we are out in the west coast but this time around we decided to actually dine in & check out the restaurant for the first time for our 21st anniversary. When you walk in, you are greeted right away. Lights are very dim which sets the mood for an intimate dinner. We asked to be seated in a booth which we both enjoyed because the booths were enclosed behind us both so we don't get to see others sitting behind us which is nice for privacy. There are areas where it's more open though but those were the non booth areas. Amanda, our waitress, was lovely & helpful. My wife and I had reservations to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary . We arrived and were promptly seated in a booth with live rose petals and special menus on the white table cloth, nice touch. Our server Jasmine was so kind and gave us what seemed like special attention she was great, Michael who came around to make sure we were happy with our delicious food and met our expectations again nice touch we have never been treated so well. We both had the Prime Ribeye steaks that were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was perfect, would melt in your mouth. Good Lady Wife and I are steak aficionados. She had indicated she had never visited a "Ruth's Chris", so for our 25th Anniversary, I set out to correct that situation. I, myself have been to Ruth's Chris, when they had an outpost Downtown Chicago. I had lunch there with the notorious talk show host (and my former boss) Morton Downey, Jr.; and the noted psychic Irene Hughes. There were no predictions that day. I remember the company being of more interest than the meal. But I digress... The RC in Barrington here is a splendid room, posh in nature as you might expect. Out booth was festooned with Anniversary decorations (I tipped them off in the reservations), and a personalized menu. Nice touch. As Wife is the designated driver, (she is relatively teetotal, by choice); I had a Sazerac for aperitif; as it is difficult to find an authentic preparation of that NOLA classic up north here. RC is, after all, native to the Crescent City-if anyone can make a Sazerac, they should. It was a fine quaff, indeed. Salads next, and I had a killer "Wedge"-Wife had a house. Both were fine. "BBQ Shrimp" were next, and the very fresh shrimp were very good. They tasted like many things, none of which were "NOLA BBQ Shrimp" as I know them. Eyebrow raised. How can a NOLA restaurant miss on a NOLA classic? The pair of Filets came out with championship-sized baked potatoes, and an order of sauteed spinach. The potatoes were fab as was the green stuff. The filets not so much. They were pretty, mind you, but WAY under-seasoned and dull. Of course there were no table seasonings to be found, and I did not wish to be déclassé and ask for them. Were they bad? Not at all, just dull. And certainly not worth the posh pricetag. We got desserts on the house as part of our Anniversary Celebration, and I finished the meal with a cup of fine coffee. We took the cheesecakes home, and they were OK. Just OK. Three times the kitchen prepares my steak and three times it was overcooked I did appreciate that our meals were comped, but still disappointed that the meal did not meet expectation and this is really what I was looking g forward to. I had a feeling once they went corporate that I heard things would change. Sure, enough it did. This year just a card says happy birthday Judy I was told if you bring your own wine there's a $15 cork fee fine . Brought the bottle this year instead of $15 they charge 25. I wasn't gonna argue. Had a top notch, first rate, prime steakhouse experience for couples date night! Our server Russell, who has 11-years experience at this location, was attentive and helped guide us through their menu answering our questions in an enthusiastic effort to make certain we would decide on something that would be truly pleasing for us. We would welcome the opportunity to sit in his section again and plan on requesting him the next time we come back; which may be as soon as next month for my cousin's 40th birthday. Just after serving our first round of drinks one of our guests spilled an entire drink all over our table making quite the mess. They promptly and politely relocated us to a new table, replaced our drink at n/c, and helped reduce our embarrassment in a professional and effortless manner. All of our filets were cooked perfectly and as ordered. The lobster bisque was delicious, and the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and honey butter were terrific. At $18 the 3-bite lobster tail was good and likely fairly priced but my wife would have preferred a slightly larger tail for slightly more money. The ladies loved their chocolate sin cake and we all agree that the cheesecake is some of the best we have ever had, smooth and creamy - not too tart or sweet. They have an excellent by the glass red wine list including two offerings by Caymus and another by Orin Swift just to name a few standouts: the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone is a real value at just $80/bottle and they were happy to chill it for us before serving. Restaurant Manager Mike visited our table a couple times during the evening in a genuine effort to engage with us and insure our complete satisfaction. We were given a small steak to take home to compensate rather than charging us for the steak we were given. We ordered the Ruth's Classic, and were offered to substitute other sides, which we did. We took the dessert that came with to go. When we got the bill, there were charges for the substitutions that were not mentioned when ordering. When we got home to have the desert, there was only one rather than 2 desserts.
