The cole slaw and fries that come with it are great; the lamb and the wrap was amazing. The food here is great but I wish they would be a little more attentive and approachable! The outdoor seating caught my eye. As soon as I walked in, I definitely did not feel very welcomed. The young lady at the front didn't smile or ask me if I needed help. I really couldn't tell if she just really didn't want to be at work or just didn't like me. But she did definitely turn me off. Feeling welcomed is so so important for new customers. The food was good but the lack of attention to the space, cleanliness and customer service could use some work. There weren't many tables outside, but at least half of the tables had leftover food or napkins on them and the whole hour I was there, no one cared to clean up the tables outside. I was craving real, authentic Middle Eastern food when we got back to the states; we temporarily live in the Caribbean. We ordered takeout from here since it is hard to find street parking (only downside though because we really wanted to dine in). Portions are absolutely huge! Don't be mistaken. We ordered way too much and had leftovers (never a bad thing). The hummus was plain, but filled with flavor and was the best hummus I've tasted. I had the lamb kebab with the garlic dipping sauce. The seasoning and the flavor of the lamb was out of this world and the sauce was creamy enough to just balance out tastes. Anyway, without further adieu: Hubby and I were debating about what to order when the friendly owner stopped by our table and enthusiastically recommended the Arabic Chicken Shawarma. "It's the first of its kind in New York City!" he proclaimed. Well, alrighty then. Of course we tried that Shawarma, which was slathered VERY generously with garlic sauce and rolled burrito style in a thin, flaky, slightly chewy pancake-flour tortilla hybrid referred to on the menu as 'Bedouin bread.' Hubby pointed out that it was lacking in the fresh veggies that tend to be included in a more typical pita pocket Shawarma. Definitely something I'd eat again, but imo, it didn't eclipse the more familiar rendition. We also got an Arabic Falafel Sandwich, wrapped similarly in the same bread. Falafel was crisp and tasted fried on the spot, but again with the nitpicking, hubby noted it was lacking in the vibrant green pop of fresh cilantro and / or parsley. And just for the heck of it, we tried a couple Kibbeh, aka football-shaped bulgur croquettes filled with ground meat; in this case, beef. Enjoyed these, though they didn't compare to my all-time favorite BK Kibbeh from The Family Store. But I digress as usual... We'd wanted to try a few mezze, but the owner kindly advised us not to, insisting,"you already have more than enough to eat." He was sooo not wrong. I think two people with a lighter appetite could easily share one of the Sandwiches we ordered, along with an appetizer or two. A word about the ambiance: The Yelp pics for this place make it appear really decked out. In reality, the space is smaller and more humble looking; at least is was to me. Bottom line: Great value for freshly prepared Middle Eastern food that'll definitely hit the spot even if it won't be the best you've ever had. WOW! What a great addition to the area! Literally the best chicken shawarma that I've had in a while. It was super juicy and all of the ingredients were fresh. I would highly recommend trying it with the fries! They are also very crispy. The white garlic sauce is not too overpowering, but it's so delicious! This platter comes with shawarma chicken wrapped in a thin wrap with a creamy sauce, seasoned fries, pickled peppers/olives and a coleslaw salad. The portions are big and very filling. I can only speak on the chicken shawarma and a small sample of beef . The shawarma came with fries , coleslaw and some olives . It was cut up into several pieces which is good for sharing with your friends or doggy if you're lucky like me to have . The wrap that the shawarma was made from was too chewy for my liking though. They were also too heavy handed with the white sauce and not enough pieces of chicken . I didn't care for it much and might just get the platter when I visit next time . Why the 4 stars ? Well their fries were amazingg and the beef I sampled from them was amazing . The cole slaw was also really good . Wow!! This place is amazing!! Had a craving for some lamb kabob and Ruzana did not disappoint. I had a feeling my experience would be a good one considering the amount of people congregating outside and inside the restaurant to find a place to eat. ATMOSPHERE: Very casual, you can order and then sit wherever you want. Grab drinks from the fridge and let the cashier know how many you have. Can be noisy at times, not somewhere I would take fussy kids or a first date lol. FOOD: Chicken shawarma sandwich is good, fries are different but good (they have some spices on them). Lamb shawarma is just ok, often dry. Garlic sauce has good flavor, but watery. The tabboule and salad are not good. I recommend switching them out for hummus, which is not the best, but is much better than the coleslaw that they try to give you. SERVICE: Not good, the cashier is rude and can be very dismissive. Especially if you call to order and she can't hear you because the kitchen is loud, she acts annoyed as if you're inconveniencing her.
