    Overpriced with shockingly small portions. The food was average at best, and you can find similar dishes elsewhere for much less. The drink menu was solid, but spending $180 for two people and still leaving hungry is wild. The ambiance was great and definitely date-night worthy, but I just couldn't justify the prices for the portion sizes. Crazy expensive for what you get. Also, serving food on a heavily chipped plate was both unprofessional and unsafe. The pacing of the meal was also frustrating. Dishes came out with no real order or consistency--at first, each plate arrived about 10 minutes apart, which felt painfully slow given how tiny the portions were and how quickly we finished them. By the end, two dishes came out at once. The timing was all over the place, which made it difficult to pace our drinks and enjoy the meal in any cohesive way.

    Got a reservation here for brunch and got here at about 11:30. The restaurant was hardly busy. Our server was really nice and attentive and patient in explaining the menu to us since it was our first time visiting the restaurant. We started off with the hand rolls - uni, tuna, and pork. They were just okay. I had high hopes for the uni. However I was a little disappointed because they rolled it with shiso leaf and it overpowered the sweetness of the uni. We got the tuna sashimi plate and the pork gyoza, both were okay. I like the citrus sauce that came on the side and it went really well with the gyoza. The server highly recommended us getting some vegetables and I'm so glad we took his advice. We got the roasted broccolini and sweet potatoes. The broccolini was surprisingly good and had a nice char to it. It went well with the sauce and was a very tasty dish. The sweet potato dish was a standout, very balanced, not too sweet. Overall the two vegetable dishes were surprising standouts. We also got to try an off-menu item: the Japanese curry with beef topped with an egg. It was hearty and we were pretty full by the end. Even though the server recommended us getting 6-9 dishes in total, excluding the hand roll, we felt like we ordered the right amount of food. They course out your meal for you so you definitely get full by the end. We spent about an hour and a half there in total and had a great time. We also enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant with music from their vinyl record player. Great vibes.

    Delicious food especially, if your a foodie that loves to try new foods. Tapas style, great ambience, amazing service! Our waiter checked in on us as it was my husband's birthday multiple times to give us wine and sake recs, and food recs. Food: Peach salad with mint was delicious! wild kapanchi with mint hand roll were 10/10 Mixed rice with duck confit: 10/10 Roasted Sweet potato, great flavor and melts in your mouth 10/10 Wagyu skewer- light and juicy Would definitely come again!

    Hype or not? Not! This place has everything to offer. Great ambiance, Wonderful staff and excellent food. We ordered the pork gyoza and the spicy citrusy dip that came with it was the start of the show. We also used it as dip for the chicken karaage. The Duck meatballs were delicious as well. The three handrolls were excellent! We will definitely be back for more! We will try more of their veggies!

    RVR is a modern Japanese izakaya with California style. RVR is having a moment on Abbot-Kinney, where the vibe never ends. At an izakaya, you expect small dishes so you can linger while you enjoy your drinks. Here, these include charcoal-grilled meat skewers, dumplings, ramen, and sandos. I visited during brunch and had a large bowl of ramen with a Banner Dark cold brew. I was seated at the bar where the stools have low backs, so you get a little core workout. Before the meal, they bring a warm towel. Manila Clam Ramen: The broth is subtly briny and sweet from the clams and dashi, so don't expect a typical rich pork soup. The Manila clams are sweet and tasty. While I'm not normally a high fan of the texture of clams, these are plump, springy, and juicy. In fact, with their huge size and orange color, they resemble mussels in flavor and shape. Slivers of the preserved lemon give a zesty, aromatic, and fermented flavor. This complements the scallions and sweet citrus zing of the red Fresno chilies. The mitsuba leaves are like a mild parsley. Today I had some interesting interactions with water. In the morning, while I was surfing, I was spitting out the aggressively salty water. My first sip of RVR's tap was noticeably sweet, cold, clean, and refreshing. When the clam broth arrived, the level of savoriness was just right! Parking: You can usually find street parking a few blocks away.

    We visited this restaurant tonight after hearing all of the hype and I'll say-- the food is uniquely curated and flavored but the portions are oh so small and very over priced. We fine dine all over the world (especially in L.A), and RVR is good-- but definitely not great. The service is very average (nothing special). The value proposition is average at best. The food taste and quality is great. But it will for sure leave you wanting more. $18-20 hand rolls, $35-40 sashimi-- good luck getting full here especially with tables of 4-8 people. You will be getting nibbles not bites. We got stuck on the second floor at the bar-- not much vibe up there. 2 stars is generous if I'm being honest considering the $320 bill we walked out with. Unique menu items, small portions, and large price. Good luck!

    Food: Amazing. We tried their brunch service - all drinks and food items were spot on. Brunch had items like banana yogurt bowl, mochi beignets, tamagoyaki omelette. Also got their veggie gyoza and shrimp dumplings, 1/2 veggie ramen, and 3 drinks (seista, last word, cosmo). Everything was splendid. Service: quick, friendly, no complaints. Location: By the beach! Can get busy and parking can be difficult but we found a free street parking spot a block away on memorial day weekend!?! Ambience: Beautiful! Inside out kinda space. Even indoor seating is open and has reflective roof that makes the space bright and airy on sunny beach days. There's a vinyl speaker space with records and cassettes. Easy access and restrooms available.

    Upon arrival to LA I tried RVR (you'll likely need to book a reservation in advance). We were seated upstairs and I was really impressed with the decor and attention to detail. It felt very Japanese. I started off with a Japanese sweet potato beer and loved it. All of our dishes were really good but the oysters, grilled brocolini, and duck meatballs really stood out. I also really enjoyed the beef tongue, karage, gyozas, and ramen. Also the high ball was great.

    Dined with them on Sunday night! It was really busy and alot of people attempting to walk in, but eventually got seated for our 7:15pm reso. Recommend their sweet potato and yellow bean tempura!! Ramen was on the lighter side, if that is your thing. Scallops were also a nice surprise. The server emphasized that they try to include local and seasonal vegetables to the dishes, so really appreciate that! Both cocktails and a few non alcoholic drinks!

    RVR is very Venice coded - it's scene-y, vibey, and food hype-y. We started with some yakitori: -chicken thigh ume myoga ($9) -duck meatball tsukune & hot mustard ($10 for 3pcs) -wagyu beef tongue, torpedo onion salsa & toasted sesame oil ($16) The skewers were fine, but nothing was really memorable. And so began our truly unmemorable meal. We had gyozas, a mixed rice, and though it was recommended that each person order individual ramen bowls, we opted not to because conceptually that's a little weird at an izakaya? Our splurgiest item was probably the crispy aji sando ($25). It's a very small portion, though I'm not looking for value at this point. It was a very expensive fish sandwich on regular ole bread - not a ton of flavor even with the morita aioli. The extensive vegetable offerings is probably the most exciting menu plug. The best thing I ate were the roasted sweet potatoes ($16). The potatoes were sweet, roasted, drizzled with a lime aioli and then topped with parsley shichimi. Sweet potatoes are the perfect vessel for any accoutrement and these were no different. Service was spotty - fast dishes, long breaks, repeat. Idk. I feel like there is a whole lot of hoopla for very mid tasting Japanese food. There wasn't anything innovative or new about the flavors I sampled. I feel like any strip mall in Torrance could take RVR down in a fight. Not for me.

    Past by these multiple times and it's always packed with people. Finally got a chance to try it and now I know why! The space inside is gorgeous. Love the decor on the wall and ambiance is lovely. Music is on the louder side so I wouldn't take someone on a first date here but maybe a celebration for something. The bone marrow and uni handroll were my favorite. Both were very rich and the uni is from Hokkaido so the size is bigger. The duck meatball was also amazing but only use a tiny bit of the mustard because it is STRONG. Sweet potato was solid. The mushroom was good but a little bit too salty by itself. I wish it was served with the rice at the same time but not a big issue. Drinks were good but not memorable nor that strong for the price. Overall would come again and try the other items on the menu!

    First time visitor, and can't say enough about it. I've been wanting to come to RVR for a long time, and I finally got the chance to. Reservations are tricky! They open about 10 days in advance, and get snagged up very quickly. We were seated on the upstairs patio, which felt very romantic (hell it was a date). It's a lot less intimate than the downstairs though which is dimly lit and a bit louder. The food was delightful. We ordered the handrolls (Tuna and Kanpachi), which were so good. They're a great starter for any meal. Next up was the leafy greens salad which was really good. The chicken katsu was probably my favorite of the night. I'd order this again and again. The pork rib gyoza were also a hit. Very light and airy. Lastly, the sweet potatoes were incredible. I'd order these again as well.

Garlic Bread & Tuna Tartare - garlic bread was actually garlicky and the tuna tartare was well balanced. Everything was done well. Pork Belly Taco - honestly looked a bit sad coming out but the taste did not disappoint. Extremely tender pork that was melt in your mouth, only wish there was another fresh element to balance. Yuzu Chashu Duck Ramen - honestly might have been my favorite. Ramen is typically pretty heavy for me but I liked the brightness the yuzu brought to the broth and the duck was incredibly tender. Hojicha Creme Brûlée - the brûlée on top was thick and I enjoyed it. My boyfriend didn't love how overdone it was, but I thought it amplified the bitterness of the hojicha in a smoky way. Yuzu Vanilla Ice Cream - from lavender and truffle a vegan ice cream place. I thought the flavor was nice but didn't enjoy the icey texture, would probably skip on this one. After some ChatGPT research I learned that there is such a thing as a "Izakaya Omakase" and Shriube is an izakaya first and sushi restaurant second. Now, if you got this far, here is the cause of this review. One offering was wagu meatballs. They were tasty, not great. What followed immmediately after was wagu curry (with rice). The rub in my mind was the wagu curry had essentially the same flavor as the meatballs and I felt it was just a way for the chef to use up meatballs. Even in an Izakaya first driven Omakase should at least give a customer a variety of tastes, not a repeated one.

Stuffed chicken wing, 8/10: stuffed generously with ground chicken ginger scallions and seasonings. The outside skin was flavorful crispy and savory. The temperature of the wings were pretty good too. Solid.

I would say some of the highlights were the yellowtail nigiri, the baked crab roll, the salmon roll, and one of my personal favorites: the spider hand roll. They have a revolving menu with some things that stay and other limited run specials so it's the sort of place where you can get something new each visit. Excellent customer service, a variety of delicious dishes and an inviting atmosphere made for a memorable dining experience! 2 Orders of Crispy Rock Shrimp | Shared | This dish was a vibe, and one of my favorites! Plentiful, memorable flavorful & you can't just eat one... You'll keep craving more, which we all did! I highly recommend! Miso Maple Salad | Shared | I selected this salad, it was unique, has quite the bite to it, and I enjoyed it! I would order again! Includes crispy, quinoa, heart of palm, jicama, avocado, snow peas, gem lettuce, and miso maple! Garlic Butter Noodles | Shared | What a favorable combo! I would easily order again! Passion Fruit Mousse | Shared | I took a bite, which was yummy! If an island had a flavor, I feel this would be it! Haha! 2 Orders of Spicy Tuna & Salmon Avocado Roll | Shared | Yum! Both were delicious & The spicy tuna roll was my niece's favorite dish! Sharing is Caring | Shareable plates were my idea, as there were five of us! Why not sample the menu in all of its glory, as well as order a little something, each of us like?! After all, it was my first time dining here! Though all of us enjoyed the shrimp, one bowl of the shrimp was definitely enough for all of us! We didn't know the portion would be so huge! Family Affair | It was exciting having family in town to visit & I selected this restaurant for lunch! I knew that they appreciated places that were aesthetic, as well as had great food! Belles Beach House served Island Glam & memorable bites! There She Glows | She naturally glows, once you step inside, the lighting is so nice! It's such a beautiful place! A extra large seashell, as well as larger than life, wooden carved tiki figures, front and center greet you at the door... full-on Island vibe! I love the decor; wicker lamps, plush seating, including a few long tables, which are great for groups! Customer Service | Everyone that arrived at our table was super friendly, attentive easily, service with a smile, even though the place was super busy! While I couldn't remember everyone's name, Ryan's name was on the receipt as the server! Thanks again to everyone! Reservations Please | She's very popular! I highly recommend making reservations, unless you want to wait! If you have to wait, at least you're at the beach, walk around, look inside the shops, & maybe even put your feet in the sand! I had booked online with my card, which they request ahead of time! Los Angeles Food & Wine Event | I first tried flavorful dishes from Belles Beach House, while attending this event, solo! I enjoyed the samples and knew I would eventually dine at the restaurant! Friday Night Vibe | As part of our spontaneous girls night out, we stopped by for a bit and this place was packed! Good vibes all around and the atmosphere gets me every time, it's such a beautiful sight, very pretty place! I even saw the extended part of the restaurant that I had not seen before; the wraparound bar and more tables! Overall | She's beautiful, not only naturally glows, but forever memorable! She's Belles Beach House! Each dish arriving at our table was presented in a beautiful way, flavor upon flavor with every bite, and the atmosphere was very inviting, including excellent customer service!

When we arrived, the entrance was constantly blocked by the hostess and security chatting. One staff member told me to head to the bar to order, but security then acted like I was doing something wrong. A little communication between staff would go a long way. At the bar, I was skipped twice while waiting to order. When I pointed it out, the bartender told me to "hold on" while assisting a 3rd walk up after me. I asked if we could move to an open table with table service as there were many empty for ghe hour we had already been there and was told no because they were too busy. Fair enough, but that's exactly when management should be visible, coordinating staff and helping guests. Instead, when I spoke with a manager, the response was essentially that he was focused on the bar area. Good management oversees the entire operation, especially during peak periods. I was one of 5 people in our party who spent around $100 on food and drinks (apx $500 spent in total), yet the service was a mess. If it's self-service, that's fine...but make it clear and make it work. Instead, I was skipped at the bar while ordering, staff gave conflicting directions, and there was virtually no support once we had our food. We found ourselves constantly going back and forth to the bar for drinks, utensils, soy sauce, and anything else we needed. No one checked in, and getting help from staff or management was nearly impossible. The food was decent, but the customer experience wasn't. Venice Beach is always busy. This shouldn't come as a surprise. If you're going to market yourself as part of that vibrant community, you need the operational standards to match.

We've been here a gazillion times and we'll be back a gazillion times more. We love both the sushi and izakaya items. The nigiri, rolls and carpaccios are (literally) chef's kiss! And their fried, steamed, sauteed items are exceptional. I don't know what magical incantations and techniques are used on the miso eggplant, but people who actively don't like eggplant love this dish. It's caramelized deliciousness. Straight-up witchcraft I tell you.  I know I waxed on and on about the bacon mochi in my previous review, but I need to you hear me when I extol its virtues from the highest mountain. Plus, this time, I have video of the epic pull! The fish tacos are superb. There a light, crispy batter on the flaky fish with fresh veggies on top. I daresay I felt healthy eating these tacos. The sauteed scallops with ponzu is an absolute must-order. The scallops are cooked (not overcooked, not undercooked) to a perfect texture that retains the natural sweetness of scallops, which contrasts beautifully with the savory-tangy-umami elixir created by ponzu and butter. The sauce is so delicious that we always order a side of rice to get every last drop.

We came in for dinner on a Sunday night with a large group and were seated within 15 minutes. From what we could tell, there were only two servers, and they were responsible for running their own food while also handling takeout orders. They did an AMAZING job for only two people managing so much. As soon as we were seated, we got waters and let our server know we would be paying separately. She was very friendly and worked with us perfectly. We were able to split the bill into four checks, which worked great for all the couples in the group. I ordered the Bento Box with salmon, and my husband got the Bento Box with chicken. We also ordered the Crunch Roll. The Crunch Roll came out first, and it was delicious and definitely lived up to the name--it was actually crunchy! I loved the size of the Bento Box. It came with so much food and included a starter miso soup. The miso soup had great flavor, although I personally prefer larger tofu pieces. That might just be a personal preference, though. I usually have a lot more to say in my reviews, but everything was absolutely delicious and the service was truly 10/10. I do want to mention that one of our friends ordered the ramen, and she felt the flavor was a little bland. Her parents own both a Mexican restaurant and a sushi restaurant, and one of her dad's rules is that if you're a sushi restaurant, stick with sushi and do it well instead of trying to do too many different things. One thing done really well is sometimes better than trying to do everything.
