    Menu happy hour

Delicious and fresh melt in your mouth sashimi :) Excellent service, fast seating on a Saturday night, and happy hour specials! Plenty of seating inside along with bar seating. I tried their 3 fish and 6 fish sashimi and everything was so yummy. We ordered a side of white rice since just fish can be too much sometimes iykyk. Their blue fin tuna, lighted charred bonito, and salted salmon were all so yummy and came with a side of soy sauce paste and wasabi. I just wished there were some tamago or ikura with the bowl. It did have some radish and seaweed but very little. The corn on the cob appetizer was lightly crispy and tangy and fell right off. We wanted to try their lavender and truffle icecream but they ran out of that and cheesecake sadly. Street parking was limited but available for $3 an hour. I will definitely come back to try their other menu items including omakase and steak with butter wasabi. :D

The entrance to this establishment really reminded me of Japan with the small lit-up restaurant sign greeting me at the front. The interior is what I would describe as industrial vintage and it's a nice upscale twist for an izakaya, considering it's in Santa Monica. We went on a weeknight at 8 p.m. and it was surprisingly pretty full. We ordered quite a lot but the most memorable was undoubtedly the chef's choice sashimi mori. The tuna was so buttery and each cut was thick. Everything else was middle-of-the-road, although the tableside searing of the aburi shime saba and aburi otoro carpaccio was pretty cool. The service was really great, though, and made the experience more enjoyable.

Happy hour truly lived up to its name!! Maybe it was the good prices, maybe it was the ice cold bamboo sake, and maybe it was the amazing food. Regardless, I left feeling thoroughly impressed and, as promised, HAPPY! :D I dined here with my friend for Thursday night happy hour. I joined the yelp waitlist but I absolutely didn't need to because at 5:45 there was no wait for a table. The space was intimate, dark, and sleek. Service was very attentive, almost to the point of being too attentive. I saw some reviews noting that food came out at awkward intervals, but for us (slow eaters), it was no issue. We started with the bamboo sake in a real bamboo shoot! It was freezing cold and powerfully smooth. Very mild refreshing flavor. It was fun to choose our own sake cups. (12 oz / $17) Food-wise, nearly everything we ordered came from the happy hour menu (except the sashimi mori). I have heard that the happy hour versions of dishes are smaller. Even though portions may be smaller, I loved being able to try so many different items. What we ordered: Poke tacos - my friend said this was his favorite bite of the whole meal. Soo flavorful ($3.50 each) Sunomono - seaweed/cucumber salad with a mild and refreshing flavor. We used this as a palette cleanser between dishes. ($5) Aburi shime saba - seared cured mackerel (6 pcs). Pretty tiny but distinct flavor unlike anything else we ordered. It reminded me of pickled herring but not as sweet. I enjoyed it with a squeeze of lemon. I'd heard people say this was a "must get" item, but out of everything we ordered, this was not one of the stand-outs for me. ($9) Corn ribs!! - actual must get! Sweet and juicy with a stretchy and crispy fried mochi coating.... So buttery and warm! These corn ribs really impressed me! Which is saying a lot because I'm a crazy corn fanatic. ($7 for 4 pcs) Negitoro - must get! my favorite bite of the meal! This was a flavor and texture BOMB! It's a dense and rich blend of tuna, avocado, and magic, atop a crispy and light garlic bread. To die for! I'm not a wasabi girly but this was really not spicy and had only a hint of wasabi flavor. I'm salivating just remembering when I ate this. ($12) Chef's choice 6 fish sashimi mori - This was a treat! It made us feel super indulgent. Felt a little like omakase because each fish had something to pair with it, and we got a surprise 7th fish! Our selection had sea bream, bonito (smoked), amberjack, scallop with caviar, salmon, hamachi (huge), and tuna. My favorites were salmon, hamachi, bonito, and scallop. Each fish was tender and flavorful. I've heard that this sashimi is considered some of the best in the city. It was certainly very special. ($50 for 2 ppl [12 pcs total]) We left feeling satisfied and happy but not too stuffed. Dining here was a real treat and I'm excited to go back! Definitely check out that happy hour :D

This place is an absolute must try. My highlights are: corn-Shockingly good.perfectly seasoned, simple but unforgettable. Saba-Fresh, rich, and beautifully prepared. We had to order two. Duck-Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The waygu curry was also great. Their desserts alone are worth the visit. The matcha tiramisu and the ube cheesecake is super unique, you won't find desserts like this anywhere else. Both are absolutely to die for. On top of the incredible food, the service attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!

As someone who has traveled to Japan twice, this is the place to go to. It's the closest I've gotten here to the food I ate in Japan. It is authentic and the best you'll find to say the least. I highly recommend this restaurant to others and it's a well deserved 5 stars. I went with a friend who is part Japanese and has lived there, and they agreed it is very authentic and highly rated. That's how you know it's good. The inside is decorated very well and has a great ambiance. It really honors and emphasizes Japanese culture. The service was also great, the food came faster than I thought it would and the servers were very nice. The corn ribs were the most popular on the menu, I can see why. Their sashimi was probably my favorite, it was as fresh as it can get. I couldn't even tell you which dish was my favorite, they were all past expectations.

A true hidden Izakaya gem! I loved everything about this place ; the menu, the flavors, and the atmosphere. The sashimi and nigiri set was just as fresh and well-prepared as any top sushi spot. The corn ribs were so good that I had to order them twice! The black cod dish and the dandan noodles were also really solid. What stood out the most was the incredibly kind staff who explained every dish with care as they served it. It honestly felt like enjoying authentic Japanese flavors right here in Santa Monica!

Just wow! It's a unique combination when you can find a restaurant with incredibly delicious food, fun ambiance, and won't break the bank. I have never had Japanese "tapas" before and was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. I recommend reservations if you want the tables or have a group otherwise there's open seating at the long bar. The happy hour offers a solid menu and we had their famous Corn Ribs, Kakuni Taco (braised pork belly), and the Poke Sushi Taco. Get the corn ribs like everyone suggests - you won't regret it! The Cured Mackeral also seems like a winner as they sear it with a flame right at your table. If you are looking to taste a bit of everything, come with a group of four as many of the dishes come in four pieces. There's also a discount of approximately 5% if you pay by cash over credit card. Tucked between a gas station and a FedEx, this is the newest local secret.

What a fabulous experience. I chose this restaurant to come spend my birthday with my husband. From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped in an immersive theme. The restaurants' styling is both seaside and modern, with concrete's brutalism balanced against wood's softness. The service is attentive, honest, and helpful. And the food is lovely. The corn ribs are really so unique and flavorful. There are several classic bites of sushi that are exquisite and satisfy that sushi-going experience. And there are several more experimental bites of food that push the boundaries and explore seafood in ways you won't get elsewhere. They don't have a full bar, but the drinks they have are very flavorful. The lycheetini was a hit, but its mocktail equivalent was even better. Highly recommend this place!

Delicious food and great ambiance! What a gem to find this place in the heart of Santa Monica. The eel was delicious, the sashimi was so fresh, the sushi tacos were so good more like smaller handrolls. Wagyu steak and fries were a little too salty. The mentaiko udon was delicious as well I can taste all the butter in it so yum. The cheese tofu felt more like a dessert to me but was also delicious. 10/10 highly recommend this place! Service was also fast and efficient. Seems like they have great sakes and cocktail options as well.

These noodles were excellent; bouncy and saucy, with a very fragrant and flavorful sauce with lime for brightness and spice which paired excellently with the beef. It was the comfort food I wanted. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak, he did notice that it was on the slightly salty side but found it to be tender and perfectly cooked. We sat at the bar and saw the careful food prep first-hand, always love an open kitchen concept. Highly recommend!

Been needing to update my review forever now but this has become a tried and true neighborhood spot for us! We're here for Sunday and Monday happy hour every other week if not more often for their regular menu as well. We love the yuzu Rita almost as much as we love our favorite server Suzie!

This is the most delicious place I've eaten in a while! A modern izakaya (which serves small plates (like tapas) and alcoholic beverages) but authentic as well as innovative. My husband was stationed in Japan for 2 years and we love Japanese food (and eat it often!) The interior looks cool and everything we ate was delicious! My friend said she wanted to come back here for her anniversary and we were barely mid-meal. Service was quick and friendly. Our server gave some recommendations which were on point. Happy hour Tue-Fri 5-630pm, Sat 4-6pm, all day Monday and Sunday, Fri/Sat 9-1030pm. Located near the corner gas station. Street/metered parking all around. When I eat here again I'll definitely get the corn ribs with shoyu butter, garlic shrimp, Kakuni (pork belly) tacos, and the Negitoro (tuna) spread with garlic bread. The Dandan udon and sushi tacos were good but we were already getting full. I also want to try the mentaiko udon. Can't wait!

When I was in Tokyo, I went to Shirubee in Shibuya with my friends. That branch was tucked away behind a 7/11, with a short sliding door, and it was very packed. But I loved the food at that Shirubee, so when I found out that there was a branch of the exact same restaurant in Santa Monica, I had to give it a try. I made a reservation a month in advance, so I was seated fairly quickly especially on a Wednesday. We had a table for 6 people total. The restaurant was more spacious and cleaner than the one in Shibuya. In Japan, we all ordered a course meal to make it simple. This time around, we decided to go with the ala carte route. The menu fonts and designs are almost identical to the ones in Shirubee Shibuya, except that the menu was in English, of course. I ordered a yuzu ginger ale mocktail, which was the perfect palate cleanser between items. I really wanted to get the beef stew (niku jaga) that I had in Japan, but unfortunately it was not on the menu of Shirubee Santa Monica. Instead, we got sashimi, salmon belly daily special, maitake mushrooms, and mentaiko udon. We also got items that we had in Japan, such as their famous aburi shime saba (mackerel seared tableside) and cheese tofu. For the sashimi, I ended up getting bonito, chuutoro (fatty tuna), and salmon. The salmon was my favorite of the trio, but the fatty tuna was good too. The bonito was slightly tough for my tastes. I loved their use of real wasabi. The aburi shime saba was amazing. We all agreed it was better than the same dish we had in Japan. The mackerel tasted more seasoned, and I think the staff also torched it more generously in the US than in Japan. The salmon belly was also torched table side, and the fish was super sweet and full of flavor. Again, real wasabi was placed in the fish. The maitake was surprisingly very well seasoned and delicious. The cheese tofu was quite similar to what we had in Japan. The mentaiko udon was a new item we did not get in Japan. I loved their use of kimchi to add some spice and sourness to the mentaiko. Amazing dish. For dessert, my wife and I shared a goma (black sesame) panna cotta. The texture was super smooth and the panna cotta was sweet but not too sweet. I love Japanese food, and this was definitely one of the best restaurants I've been to in west LA.

Although it didn't necessarily live up to the hype, it was definitely an authentic spot tucked in a busy area of LA. Parking, was particularly hard to find. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Immediately greeted by a friendly staff who showed us our table. Ambience was reminiscent of a local spot you'd find in Tokyo. A comforting, warm, bright place that serves as a familiar dinner spot that makes me wanna go back to Japan. For first timer, the menu was slightly hard to navigate. Lol, but I guess that speaks to the authenticity of the Japanese menu. Assorted pork belly wrapped yakitori/skewers, 7.8/10: these were hyped up by both my friend and the server, but overall it was slightly underwhelming. The skewers were all seasoned nicely, although they were a bit hard to eat since they were so big. Starting with the pork belly wrapped cabbage skewer, I don't believe the cabbage added any sustenance to the dish. I did like the bacon wrapped tomato skewer since the pop of acidity and freshness from the tomato paired well with the fat from the pork. Chicken Karaage, 9.1/10: definitely the best dish here. Chicken was fried perfectly, and was warm when it came out. The batter was not too thick or heavy. Season well with enough space. The lemon is a must for acidity and brightness. And of course they kewpie mayo is a nice touch. Tonkotsu Ramen, 7.5/10: the pork broth was rich and deep. The noodles were nice and chewy and firm clinging onto that broth. However, the portion was a bit small for the price. I was caught off guard by that. Granted, this place doesn't boast about the ramen. Overall, this wasn't anything mind blowing. Stuffed chicken wing, 8/10: stuffed generously with ground chicken ginger scallions and seasonings. The outside skin was flavorful crispy and savory. The temperature of the wings were pretty good too. Solid.

Our…read moreserver was really nice and attentive and patient in explaining the menu to us since it was our first time visiting the restaurant. We started off with the hand rolls - uni, tuna, and pork. They were just okay. I had high hopes for the uni. However I was a little disappointed because they rolled it with shiso leaf and it overpowered the sweetness of the uni. We got the tuna sashimi plate and the pork gyoza, both were okay. I like the citrus sauce that came on the side and it went really well with the gyoza. The server highly recommended us getting some vegetables and I'm so glad we took his advice. We got the roasted broccolini and sweet potatoes. The broccolini was surprisingly good and had a nice char to it. It went well with the sauce and was a very tasty dish. The sweet potato dish was a standout, very balanced, not too sweet. Overall the two vegetable dishes were surprising standouts. We also got to try an off-menu item: the Japanese curry with beef topped with an egg. It was hearty and we were pretty full by the end. Even though the server recommended us getting 6-9 dishes in total, excluding the hand roll, we felt like we ordered the right amount of food. They course out your meal for you so you definitely get full by the end. We spent about an hour and a half there in total and had a great time. We also enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant with music from their vinyl record player. Great vibes.

My friend and I stopped in because the restaurant looked beautiful and we were interested in dining on the rooftop. When we arrived, the hostess told us there was approximately a 30-minute wait for rooftop seating. She also pointed out that there was a table available inside, but since we specifically wanted the rooftop experience, we chose to wait. After providing our contact information, we received a text indicating a 45-minute wait instead of 30. We spent some time walking through Abbott Kinney while we waited. We came back in 40 min ago we would be there early. When we checked in, we were told they just needed another minute to prepare the table. However, when we were finally seated, we were taken to a shared table inside the restaurant, not the rooftop. We explained that the only reason we had waited 45 minutes was because we were told there was a wait for rooftop seating. At that point, the manager informed us that the restaurant does not hold rooftop seating for walk-ins and that rooftop seating would have required a reservation. The issue wasn't that rooftop seating wasn't available. The issue was that we were told to wait specifically for rooftop seating, only to find out after nearly an hour that this was never an option. Had we been given accurate information from the start, we would have simply taken the indoor table that was available when we first arrived. What made the experience worse was the response from management. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or taking ownership of the misinformation, the explanation was simply that the hostess had made a mistake and that it wasn't their policy. While mistakes happen, customers shouldn't lose nearly an hour of their evening because of a staff error and then be told it's essentially not the restaurant's responsibility. We ultimately chose to leave rather than eat there. Fortunately, we found another restaurant nearby with a rooftop and beautiful views where the service was excellent and the experience was exactly what we were looking for(Kassi). Based on this experience, I would not return. The restaurant itself appears to have a great atmosphere, but clear communication and accountability are just as important as the setting.

Why not sample the menu in all of its glory, as well as order a little something, each of us like?! After all, it was my first time dining here! Though all of us enjoyed the shrimp, one bowl of the shrimp was definitely enough for all of us! We didn't know the portion would be so huge! Family Affair | It was exciting having family in town to visit & I selected this restaurant for lunch! I knew that they appreciated places that were aesthetic, as well as had great food! Belles Beach House served Island Glam & memorable bites! There She Glows | She naturally glows, once you step inside, the lighting is so nice! It's such a beautiful place! A extra large seashell, as well as larger than life, wooden carved tiki figures, front and center greet you at the door... full-on Island vibe! I love the decor; wicker lamps, plush seating, including a few long tables, which are great for groups! Customer Service | Everyone that arrived at our table was super friendly, attentive easily, service with a smile, even though the place was super busy! While I couldn't remember everyone's name, Ryan's name was on the receipt as the server! Thanks again to everyone! Reservations Please | She's very popular! I highly recommend making reservations, unless you want to wait! If you have to wait, at least you're at the beach, walk around, look inside the shops, & maybe even put your feet in the sand! I had booked online with my card, which they request ahead of time! Los Angeles Food & Wine Event | I first tried flavorful dishes from Belles Beach House, while attending this event, solo! I enjoyed the samples and knew I would eventually dine at the restaurant! Friday Night Vibe | As part of our spontaneous girls night out, we stopped by for a bit and this place was packed! Good vibes all around and the atmosphere gets me every time, it's such a beautiful sight, very pretty place! I even saw the extended part of the restaurant that I had not seen before; the wraparound bar and more tables! Overall | She's beautiful, not only naturally glows, but forever memorable! She's Belles Beach House! Each dish arriving at our table was presented in a beautiful way, flavor upon flavor with every bite, and the atmosphere was very inviting, including excellent customer service!

I actually had Ikura…read morebookmarked during my trip to Japan, but I never got the chance to go, so when I saw they were coming to LA, I knew I just had to make the drive from OC to try it! You physically have to stand in line here which is a little excruciating but I came here at noon on a Saturday during the first few weeks of their pop-up announcement so I really did that to myself. It was probably a 1.5 hour wait, but I'll do anything for a good bite The demiglaze omurice delivered exactly what I wanted- the most silky melt in your mouth eggs ever, a rich savory sauce, and hamburg all on top of a bed of fluffy rice. The egg really was the star of this dish, I've never had eggs with this texture in the US. Ikura has really nailed their recipes and training of chefs here, I've tried to make eggs like this at home and it's just never the same! I will say the hamburg was a little thin and dry, but I was very willing to overlook that because of how perfect all the other components of this dish were. We also ordered the Ika Ika okonomiyaki, which comes with squid. I don't think I've ever had this type of Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, which has all the ingredients layered instead of mixed (they also do serve the Osaka mixed style mixed though). I probably wouldn't get the squid topping again, but the okonomiyaki itself is enough to keep me coming back. You get the option of soft of crispy noodles, and we got what our server recommended, the crispy, and she definitely knew what was up- the slight crunch added a great texture contrast. On the topic of our server I have to give her a shoutout for being so kind and attentive towards us. I wish I got her name, but she was a young girl server and she was just so sweet in giving us order recommendations, as well as giving us a tip that there really aren't any lines here if you come on weekdays during early lunchtime. But what really topped it off was that we remained in the Sawtelle area after we finished dining here for about two hours and ended up really needed a bathroom. No restaurants were letting us use their restroom so we went back to check Chinchikurin around 4 pm which is when they close for lunch. One of the other servers was about to send us away, but our server from over two hours ago remembered us and let us use their bathroom she's a real one

Food: under $20 for the demi glace (japan's most popular). Had to try it before the take it out of…read morethe menu. Very filling! Tastes better with the sauce since i found the meat patty dry by itself. The egg was not runny when I cut it, but more on fluffy side. It was pretty good something new i've not tried. Plate was made to order and hot from the grill. You can watch them make it since it was semi open kitchen. I gotta come back to try the other items in the menu. Service: friendly staff although the wait was long to be seated and food to arrive. Expect to wait about an hour to be seated and get food and don't be surprised if u devour the food in minutes because it's good and u are starving from waiting lol. They were super busy during lunch since they open for lunch starting at 11:30 am. There is only 1 person delivering food to the tables, taking orders and hosting. The other 3 or 4 employees making food on open grill. Parking: in the plaza, but fills up quickly. Some street parking.

The food was presented buffet style & everything served was absolutely amazing. They served the food in small batches because as we were told, they wanted it to be as fresh as possible. And it all was. The whole staff was incredible, they were so attentive to any request or need we had. The food was so incredible, really delicious. I don't remember the names of everything I ate but I tried it all & there wasn't a single item served that I didn't like. They served this steak that was so tasty, tender, melt in your mouth. Mashed potatoes that were seriously the best I had ever eaten in any restaurant. Grilled veggies that were seasoned to perfection. Sushi that was so fresh, you didn't know you were eating raw fish. This is a great place to take anyone you are wanting to impress to. I also want to mention that I have a sensitive stomach. I ate more than usual because the food was so delicious. I walked out & my stomach felt amazing, satisfied. Not a single thing I ate agitated my stomach. I will have to come back again!!
