If you want to try interesting, unusual coffee flights this is the place. I had sniffed this out for one of our prior SD trips and we never made it. This time we got it done w/wife nudge. The flights come out in metal racks that were intended as candle holders. Creative use. I chose the ESPRESSO LATTE FLIGHT: The wife got the MATCHA FLIGHT with the same fruits. We sipped each other's flight for fun to share thoughts. STRAWBERRY: -- this one probably works the least ideal but still works -- they need thicker straws because the strawberry puree shrapnel gets stuck...so we sipped from the glass and used the straws intermittently -- the strawberry FOAM is bomb as are all the foams RATING = A- BLUEBERRY: -- a similar experience to strawberry but it works a touch better with blueberry morphing with bold coffee better RATING = A BANANA LATTE: -- banana chip on top nice touch -- the softness of the banana morphed perfectly with the espresso and the matcha for each set...these just worked together the best -- the wife does not even like banana but stated this fact RATING = A+ COCONUT LATTE: -- if you can handle the highest sweet factor of all it will pay dividends -- this was my favorite overall tasting one -- the toasted coconut flakes put it over the top -- sweetness is past medium and leaning high RATING = A+ Overall, I preferred the espresso flight, but I prefer coffee to tea typically anyway. I ordered an iced Cafe De Olla Latte and was immediately impressed by the sweet flavor. The texture of the coffee was slightly thick but smooth. It reminded me of a tamer Vietnamese coffee. Had been seeing Ryan Bros all over my social media and finally got to give them a try. The service was great! Very friendly staff who patiently answered our questions about the menu/drinks. We ordered one of their seasonal coffee flights, and the drinks were delicious! We could tell that they were crafted with care, as each drink was unique and balanced very well so you could really taste both the coffee and the flavor. Loved my experience at Ryan Bros in City Heights! I had fun and really enjoyed everything I ordered. I had to try their summer espresso flight! It was so good. It comes with strawberry, blueberry, banana, and coconut lattes. Not only were they delicious, but they were so cute! They were decorated with little umbrellas and fruits:)! My favorite out of the lattes was definitely the coconut. It had just the right amount of sweetness and was strong too. I really liked that it came with toasted coconut flakes as well. The banana latte was my second favorite. All the lattes come with a house-made fruit puree and cold foam. The server did recommend that the lattes are mixed well to really get all the flavors. She also mentioned that their summer menu drinks are available until August 30th. I asked our cashier which pastry he recommended and he said the napoleon. It was excellent. It's a flaky, yet buttery pastry with this yummy cream inside and powdered sugar with almonds on top! So good. My mom also ordered the Greg's smoothie which she really enjoyed. It has açaí, blueberry, strawberry, banana, honey and a milk base. Other than the amazing drinks and food, the service was wonderful. Super kind and welcoming staff. I was once hooked on this spot so it'll always have a special place in my heart - especially for the workers. They're all extremely, so nice! The service was always consistent too, so 5 stars for that. The coffee is bomb.com. They have so many flavors and seasonal lattes as well. Of course, I always add an extra shot because I like my coffee stronger rather than sweet. Favorites: Mexican mocha - always a go-to, this one hits the spot. Cafe de Olla latte - super good. I didn't realize that not all their locations had seasonal coffee flights until I went to one of their other locations. Turns out this location is the only one that did seasonal flights, and I finally made the time to check it out! The location that I went to is located next to B&S Caribbean Food Market Multi Services LLC and across of Buggy Bath Car Wash on University Ave in City Heights. The area was more on the industrial side rather than the foodie area. There's free street and residential parking all around the area. The question is if you're able to get a parking close to the shop. My friends and I got their seasonal summer flights of both espresso and matcha. This summer had matcha flights which my friend, Ashley F., was really looking forward to! Aside from the base, the two flights were relatively similar with one drink differing. The espresso flight consisted of: - Banana Latte - yum, this was good! This was a nice mixture of banana and coffee without wasn't too overpowering. Really good. - Horchata Latte - my least favorite. I thought I liked it at first but over time when I continued drinking it, it wasn't as great in my opinion. - Coconut Latte - similarly to the banana latte, it wasn't overpowering. It was very good as well. - Vanilla Affogato - my favorite. I love strong coffee, and affogatos usually hit the spot. This one definitely did! It was a bummer that it was the tiniest drink (peep pic) because it was just an espresso shot + small scoop of vanilla ice cream. The matcha flight consisted of: - Banana Matcha - a delicious combination. Ashley's boyfriend, Jeremy O., was on a quest for banana matchas, and this one really hit the spot. I also thought it was really good as there was the banana flavor but wasn't too overpowering or competing with the matcha. - Mango Matcha - another delicious combination, but I thought this was a bit too sweet as they used a mango syrup. - Coconut Matcha - honestly, this was all our favorite. This place is known for their flights and it was just about what everyone ordered at this spot. For the flights it's dine in only, FCFS, and stops at 2pm. I also did order an açaí bowl and the container did come out broken then later on when I was almost down, I found the piece of broken plastic on the bottom. I let the staff know & they kindly refunded me the money for the açaí bowl. The açaí bowl was okay, i did ask if they could add coconut flakes to give it some flavor. I think I'll just stick with the breakfast sandwich here. The inside is nice with all the plants though it can sometimes get busy. I like the table facing out to University as I can sit & eat & enjoy watching the cars go by. The staff are friendly & welcoming. It's a great spot except parking can be tricky to find. Yay for coffee flights in San Diego!! I loved this one. It had four shots in each cup. They were all yummy. My favorite one was the affogato. It was busy on a Saturday morning, but the staff was amazing and so friendly. Ambiance is cute and quaint. There's plenty of seating inside. Not too much space but enough to enjoy your coffee! I saw people working, studying and having some nice girl time. They have a tiny area with products to buy. I love the decor. It was giving a homey vibe. The only negative thing I have to say about this place is its location. Saw a couple homeless people on my way in who weren't very friendly. Other than that - I totally recommend this spot! Ryan Bros offers cute, seasonal espresso and matcha flights which are delight for the eyes and also your taste buds. I opted for the matcha flight and was amazed at their banana and coconut matcha latte. I love that their banana matcha latte actually has banana flavor in the drink, not just a flavored foam topping on the matcha. The coconut matcha is in my definitive list of top 3 matcha lattes; the coconut milk in the drink was rich, creamy, and absolutely dreamy. I'm surprised more coffee places don't utilize whole coconut milk because it's a game changer. I might even try to recreate it at home, that's how obsessed I am with their latte! Right on University Avenue, we got lucky and grabbed a parking spot just past the coffee shop. Small cute coffee spot, with only horrible street parking... construction on the road is not helping this coffee shop. It was not super busy when we arrived to grab a quick breakfast croissant. The ladies at the counter were friendly. We ordered The Classic and added bacon and avocado on a croissant. You can opt to get it on a bagel also. While waiting I was eyeing their pastry counter and wanted a chocolate muffin too. Both items cost just about $15. The croissant was absolutely perfect. The muffin, delicious and moist, a perfect size for me, not overly huge, just enough. Next time I'd like to try their coffee or hot chocolate flight, they looked so yummy in the pics! Till next time. I am cranked up still! This espresso flight was so good and so fun. It's a ton of espresso but we each got our own but I don't regret it at all. First the presentation is beautiful where each of the little espressos looks nice and with sprinkles and decorations. The server came out and walked us through notes about each item in the flight and pointed out each one in order. All four drinks were delicious and I was excited to try each next one. Came in to try their coffee flight my friend had mentioned seeing on IG. It's on the corner of the main street with like two street parking in front. But they do have like an additional three slots in the rear. There is still construction in the front so be weary if they have a sign up. It's a cute little shop with a good amount of seating. I ordered the expresso flight which is dine in and iced only. They have a non-caffeinated flight option as well. The flight was a bit too sweet for me. The 1st one, was more bitter though. They all need to be mixed a little before drinking. The straws could be the regular size, cut in half so the mix-ins don't get stuck while you're sipping. The server and owner were nice& friendly, I think it was just them two. It was pretty calm when I went in. She gave me the rundown of the drinks in the flight and we were talking about the other locations. Overall cute and hipster. I would bring my daughter here for some drinks, for the aesthetics. After we ordered, my friend and I were sat on their counter next to their work area and got to see the magic happen. Came for the matcha flight and was blown away! Currently in my matcha era so I love when cafes offer matcha flights as it's a good way to try different flavors. This matcha flight came with strawberry, blueberry, horchata. and rose matcha lattes. The horchata one was an 11/10, probably one of the better matchas I have had. It was a little on the sweeter side but that is to be expected with horchata. The strawberry flavor was basic but still good. The rose flavor was really light and florally. I did not like the blueberry flavor - I'm not sure why since we ordered the espresso flight and the blueberry espresso was my favorite on that flight. The blueberry syrup tasted too tart and sour. I can't remember the flavors of the espresso flight but they were all pretty tasty. Some of the espresso ones also come with cold foam which was a nice addition. The inside seating is very limited - when we first went in there were no open tables. However, by the time we finished ordering one table had opened up. I didn't see any seating outside so I'm not sure if that was an option. The baristas were really nice and explained all the flavors of the drinks to you. They also have a lunch menu and a pastry case! We didn't order any food since we were on our way to lunch after but the salads sounded delicious and the pastries looked amazing! As soon as I saw the holiday latte flight on Instagram, I knew I had to have it. Not just for the aesthetic but the ability to try all of the holiday flavors and pick your favorite to go full size for your next trip??? It's a genius idea. The mastermind behind that deserves a raise. I got mine iced with almond milk - just as a note. The peppermint - I wasn't a huge fan. But that's my fault. Nowhere in the description did it mention being a peppermint mocha but I was still expecting it. It wasn't bad by any means, but would've been better with chocolate. The eggnog - dear god almighty. Never in my life did I ever expect to enjoy anything with eggnog. I honestly considered asking to substitute it with two peppermint, but I'm glad I didn't! This one was my second favorite. It was so creamy and amazing. The gingerbread - insane. I also don't love gingerbread but I was blown away by the richness and warmth it still brought even being iced. The tiramisu - the STAR OF THE SHOW. Please keep this on the menu all year round because I could drink a gallon of the with a side of lady fingers all day long. It was so different than any specialty coffee drink I've ever had. Simply amazing. I didn't get any food while I was here but everything looked and smelled amazing.
