The food is always incredible. I did ask for no cilantro and it was covered in cilantro. I'm not complainer so I picked it all out. They would not let us order our food with our drinks. I don't understand the reasoning behind it. It's like they want any food service to take as long as it possibly can. I've come several times and the service is always just incredibly slow. Don't go if you're absolutely starving. Having worked as a server in Vegas this service style makes my eye twitch. A family member suggested we try Ryan's on York, as we're just visiting and are somewhat unfamiliar with the area restaurants. The bartender was great, the cocktails were just as good and the food we had was clearly a ten. Many unusual menu options, and dozens of beers and cocktails to choose from. My only negative is the music, which was pathetic. Next time we're here, this will be absolute tops on our list. read more

After touring a submarine we went to Ryan's on York!!, it was great. My friend got a Three pepper Zinger and I got the daily special Roy's Sandwich,(I may have that name wrong) it was beef, red onions red peppers cheese on a toasted Sour dough type bread,It was great. It was so stuffed I had to start with a fork hahaha, no kidding. The two servers were great too they checked on us and made u s feel at home. We watched the place fill up during our . lunch. Finally got a chance to check this place out. I liked the atmosphere and the updated look to the bar area. They have old time board games available to play at your table, which I thought was a cool idea. Someone told me the service was slow, but we had no problems with our service. In fact our waitress was new, but did a great job! Although there were some interesting choices on the menu, my wife and I both decided to try their gyro (mainly because there really isn't anywhere around to get a good one). Unfortunately this gyro was just okay. The pita was excellent, and the meat portion was generous. The problem we both had was with the sauce. It just didn't taste like real cucumber sauce. Came here based on a recommendation from the winery people. And wow! Absolutely phenomenal. We ordered a bit of everything. Pico and bacon grilled cheese. Yum!! Could've been a tad spicier, but it was delish! We like spicy! Beer battered baby blues. Doughy cheese ball with some blueberry sauce. It was okay. Prolly the only thing I'd not order again. But the kids enjoyed them. And I like cheese!!!! Bangkok fries. This. Did me in!! Wowza. So fricken good!!!! Husband was quite vocal about how good these were. Spicy Thai meat melt always. Burnt ends covered in a spicy Thai sauce. Could not get enough. Needless to say, we didn't go home with leftovers. We practically licked the paper boats these came in. The food is So Good!! Definitely a place to check out they have a variety of options from burgers to Noodles and some Fun dishes that you don't see just anywhere! Was recommended to go to this place by a friend. First off, the place was a little hard to find. It doesn't really stick out, instead it blends into the rest of the buildings around. The inside was nice, fairly small and it was busy when we came in. We took the last table. Waitress was nice but service was pretty slow. I think they definitely need another cook and another server. The food took a long time to come out. Appetizer came out at same time as our meal. Fried pickles were really good, Cuban sandwich was awesome, garlic parm fries were not the best but were okay. Impressive menu for Manitowoc! I had the spicy tofu which was amazing, the tofu bowl which was also great and my husband had the gyros which were great! Very unique menu with tasty options. What to do on a rare October day off when its 75 degrees? Put the top down, follow the shore of Lake Michigan to Manitowoc and have lunch at Ryan's on York. I loved it! Its clear that the chef has a fantastic culinary vision, serving up tremendous food that fuses Asian and American elements in this setting strategically located downtown near the SS Badger loading dock. I stumbled into this clean quiet location shortly after the lunch rush and took it all in. The space was formerly a bar, evident from the slot machines in the corner. Stevie Ray Vaughn was playing in the background. There were a few tables that were busy. I sat down at the bar and enjoyed the art deco backdrop. Great list of craft cocktails, wines and beers. I read inventive small plates and daily specials from a chalkboard before realizing they were for dinner. The woman behind the bar chatted with me as she poured me a glass of berry, lemon and sage-infused water on ice. Oh my gosh I am so stealing that - it was divinely delicious! I selected items that were inexpensive, gourmet, and sounded good to me. The menu was amazing. Ryan's has Kalua Naan? Kalua is my all-time favorite treatment of pork - so simple and so good. However I had 3 pounds of it in my freezer so I passed. A Bulgogi steak sandwich...must return - soon! I selected the Spicy Chicken Bowl and Frickles for an appetizer because I could. The frickles were hand cut into chips, not quarters, and yummy with just a hint of puckery tang. I was hungry so I devoured them all. The photo of the Spicy Chicken Bowl doesn't do it justice. Those noodles were pan-fried and had the most amazing texture. Veggies, onion and house-made picked carrot were the special treatment on top. Stunningly delicious. Listen, the concept was good. The burger of the month SOUNDED good... The menu LOOKED good. It took forever to get the food, and when we did, the burger was overcooked with a healthy amount of bone shards in it, the fries were overcooked and cold (paradoxically), the crab cakes were a little burnt, and the chicken on the katsu naan was incinerated. Wasn't worth the hype, in my opinion, but I might come back for the beer selection. read more

Of all the places I dined while in Manitowoc, Ryan's was my favorite. They had the best, friendliest service, a great ambiance for a gastro pub, good music, and the food was spectacular. It's just a funky, funky joint. It's mostly a bar. There's a pool table in the back. The tables are for four people but can be pushed together to accommodate larger groups. We went on a Tuesday evening and there was only one available table. The menu is crazy, filled with interesting choices for topped fries, burgers and sandwiches. Being in Wisconsin, my co-workers and I were ordering cheese curds wherever we went. We ordered the Fried Cheese at Ryan's and no one noticed that it didn't say "curds". So when the bartender, who was also our server, dropped the plate at the table we were all a little confused. There were 4 brown and bubbly triangles that looked like some kind of bread or French toast. There was no bread involved! It was literally 4 half-inch thick slices of Queso Blanco cheese dropped info a deep fryer. No breading. Just fried cheese. It was amazing. It came with a homemade raspberry sauce that cut the richness of the cheese just right. After that I had a Shrimp Po Boy with Greek fries. The po boy was good, exactly what I expected. There were a lot of shrimp on the sandwich. The amount of lettuce and tomato were perfect and the sauce was a great compliment to the rest of the sammy. I liked it. The greek fries were pretty amazing. Ryan's has super crispy shoestring style fries and I got mine with gyro meat, diced onions and tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. They were amazing. There is a blackboard in the bar with specials that seem kind of off the wall (ha! They are literally on the wall!) and unusual but given their penchant for the funky, I bet those options are pretty great, though I didn't experience any myself. From our table at the end of the bar I could see into the tiny, tiny, tiny kitchen. I am amazed that such amazing food comes from such a small space. read more

Tried this place for the first time after coworkers said it was so amazing. Ordered takeout so maybe that's why it wasn't as good as eating there. I ordered the bulgogi steak sandwich and the parmesan garlic fries. Although the food was tasty, I would say the bulgogi sandwich would be tastier with a different sauce. Not sure if they are trying to make it Korean or Thai or a blend of both? With the peanut sauce it made the sandwich more Thai, but bulgogi is usually something eaten in Korea. The sauce takes away the marinade of the meat and I had to eat a piece separate from the sauce to actually taste the marinade. If they're going to marinade the steak but then pour peanut sauce over it anyway, why waste the time marinating the steak? But as I said earlier, it was still a tasty sandwich. The fries were supposed to be parmesan garlic however they just tasted like regular fries to me with a tad bit of grated parmesan on top. They were still tasty as well. I opted out of the scallions on the sandwich but didn't realize they were on the fries too. I guess I expected more from the fries, but I also had a local wing place in mind that serves parmesan garlic wings, so my assumption was that they would be like that. That is my fault for taking two different businesses and expecting them to have the same taste. Overall, tasty food but as mentioned before they could tweak it just a bit. I'll have to eat in sometime; I heard they have good oysters! read more

We had the crispy dumplings, blueberry barbecue tacos, and San Fran noodles with crispy tofu. Everything was prepared fresh to order and was excellent! The best place to go for unique and flavorful dishes! Their take on fried cheese is totally unique and now that I've had it finally it will be tough not to have it every time I'm here. In all fairness, we only ate here once very early on. It was so crowded and we sat at a table near the entrance and just felt in the way. They seem to have a lot of food specials nightly and an asian-Hispanic (Not Mexican)- Louisiana menu. The drinks were decent, the food was unmemorable oddly enough. We didn't go back because of the lack of space and I like a little more consistent menu; like "hey, I'm in the mood for...." I don't -not- recommend this restaurant to folks, it's just not our cup o' tea is all .... But I might try it again! read more

Absolute Garbage. Came to Manitowoc for a concert, needed a quick dinner before the show. Ordered a simple veggie cheeseburger and fries. The veggie patty roughly resembled the leather sole of my shoe, and was crucified on the grill until it was nearly inedible. But to make up for that disaster the fries were cold, greasy, and completely limp. They were shoestring cut and I think I could have used them to tie my shoes - they were that soggy. Finally, the service sucked. After getting the food there was no follow up or I would have sent it back and refused to pay. read more

We stopped here before getting on the SS Badger for a 1:30am cruise across Lake Michigan. It was one of the only spots in the area still serving food at midnight, and we were anticipating Miller Lites and bar burgers and fries. We were astounded to find they had a San Francisco noodle bowl, Bangkok burger, gyro, smoked wings, and a number of other very interesting flavors on the menu. We were even more astonished that the menu wasn't just lip service -- the food was excellent. At midnight. In Manitowoc. Pretty great draft beer selection too, though I think it rotates very regularly. I had a Bells Oberon on draft our first trip, but it was gone a week later. I hope they keep it up!
