We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Rye Knot. The space under Steinmart, once occupied by the late, lamented and probably forgotten Ike's, with its amazing and unique Turkish "Pida," has been beautifully redone as a neighborhood restaurant, brewery and distillery. Both my martinis (vodka and gin, distilled by Rye Knot) were excellent. Large, ice cold and perfect. I prefer a double patty cheeseburger, but the 8 oz. single patty one here ($16 with fries) was excellent, and the tallow fries were among the best in Asheville. We appreciated being able to sit outside, although the views of the back of the Fresh Market shopping center aren't anything to write home about. So OMG! This restaurant is kind of hidden on the side of the building "under" the old SteinMart but do not miss out. The fish and chips were outstanding. The corned beef Reuben with fries... I have ate here several times over the past few weeks and leave it to Rye Knot to be not only overstaffed, but incredibly slow as well. Not only does the service leave much to be desired, for the price that Bob and co. are charging, there are much better eateries in the area. Lastly, having interacted with Bob over these visits, I have come to the observed conclusion that he has very little respect for not only his employees, but his customers as well. read more

Went to check this place out because we got a coupon in the mail, I didn't know what to really expect, but I was just amazed with this place. Very nice atmosphere for a good meal or t to hang out and watch a game and have drinks. They have their own beer and distilled products we started with a beer flight and I enjoyed every beer. For food I had the meatloaf and my wife tried the fish and chip both entrees were fantastic. They have a pretty big menu with lots of choices I can't wait to go back and try something else. We came by at the suggestion of a neighbor - always looking for new spots to eat in North Asheville. Very crowded on a Thursday evening, but we were immediately seating. Patio was full, so we opted for a table inside. All the proper Covid protocols were being followed. Service was fast and friendly. I had the Fish & Chips, she had the burger. Nice sized portions, a good value for the price. The fish was a tad overdone, otherwise I probably would have gone 5 stars. Nice North Asheville addition - we will be back!! read more

Love everything about this place! Great bar area to hang with friends, or like me, have dinner for one. Tasteful decor from the bar shelving, to artwork and lighting (my personal favorite). Wylie, the bartender, is friendly and charming. He immediately offered me a Beet and Goat Cheese salad that was made in error which I accepted, admittedly I had seen this on the menu before walking in and was interested already. It was was huge and delicious with plenty of the beets and pecans!! Judging by the plates of the guys sitting beside me, the burgers and fries are awesome. They literally left nothing on their plates. Bob, the owner, a Retired Navy Veteran, stopped by to chat with me and tell a story about the vintage chandeliers he purchased locally. This is a brewery, distillery, and kitchen but make no mistake - the kitchen is awesome! Owner Bob Byron has quite a wonderful establishment and I'm glad I finally got a chance to check it out. It was a slow day which meant that it was a great time to have a nice chat with the owner. And I have to say in one visit it has become one of my favorite new places. I have a way to drive to get there since I live in Biltmore Park but Bob got a kick out of my complaining about the distance after both of us talking about the traffic in Southern California. I'll be making the drive up Merrion frequently for what Rye Knot has to offer. I'm cutting down on my drinking these days so I didn't try the whiskey which I will do the next time I'm there. My fav cocktail is a rye Manhattan and I'll look forward to tasting the local whiskey they make. I did have a sip of my friend's brown ale and it's a contender. Between three of us we ate fish and chips, pork belly tacos with red cabbage slaw and blackberry hoisin sauce, and the Reuben sandwich. Five stars for all three dishes. The pork belly tacos were as good as it gets in a town full of good tacos. I'd say these are my favorites. Also, the tallow fries are amazing and we all scarfed down a bunch. The tortilla was so delicious I'm sure they warmed it on the grill with some of the tallow they cook the fries in. Don't go if you're trying to cut back on your calorie intake or just save up for a splurge like I do. Chef Dunbar deserves a round of applause. PS This is actually a steak place and I drooled over the steak portion of the menu but I had to leave that for another visit. Although Bob said the steak sandwich is a decadent affair if you don't want to spring for a whole steak, and yes, they do have a Tomahawk steak that I'm sure feeds four. I will return . . . soon . . . and often. PPS I'll take some pics next time. The ones here so far are not fair to the dishes. Went here for a birthday. Atmosphere was nice and our server Shelley, was excellent. There were several things we ordered or asked about on the menu that were out or unavailable. No seasonal soup, no root beer, no rye knots, and no fingerling potatoes. That's ok, but it seemed like a lot of stuff to be out of at 630 on a Saturday. We ordered the Brussel sprouts with pork belly appetizer, steaks and a sandwich. Unfortunately the brussels and entrees came out at the same time, again ok, but made for a crowded table, and a longer wait than anticipated. The pork belly on the brussels was cold, like just popped out of refrigerator cold. The brussels underneath were ok. The steak was not great. I'm not sure if they forgot to season it like they forgot to reheat the pork belly, but it had no flavor, outside the char from the grill marks. I had my wife try it as well and she agreed. I ultimately didn't finish it. Very disappointing. The orzo was good, and the broccoli was ok. My wife said her sandwich was good but there was too much dressing on the side salad, and said she should have gotten the dressing on the side. Overall it was pretty disappointing and I hope it was just that there was new or inexperienced staff in the kitchen. However, it won't be worth the gamble of time and money to come back. read more

Stumbled upon this gem today. Our timing was between lunch and dinner, which was well communicated by a charming host. We wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't said anything. Everyone was kind and smiling. I tried the smoked old fashioned with their house bourbon. Yes and I had two! Had two appetizers, as well. The wings were meaty with a fabulous buffalo sauce that was smoky and I thought I detected a bit of bourbon glaze but it wasn't in the description. Smoked perfectly. The cosmic ball was decadent and I won't apologize for devouring as if I hadn't eaten in a week. Both were the size of an entree. The service was stellar. Location is a bit hidden, so we were not sure of what to expect. But food was absolutely!! Must have are the rye knots! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside- perfection! Comes with sausage that was also incredibly good, ground stone mustard and beer cheese. We both got the ribeye sandwiches and the meat was incredibly tender and sandwich was delicious. Fries are incredible also - nice and crispy. I ALWAYS salt fries but didn't these, they were perfect as they were. Went on a Friday night and sat right next to the musician playing guitar and was afraid it was going to be too loud to chat, but it was really enjoyable music at a low level. Absolutely perfect meal and we will definitely be back! Especially to get more eye knots! read more

Beer and cocktails were solid, but man the food was seriously lacking. Really should have sent the brussel sprout app back as they were completely raw and rock hard. Deviled eggs were bland. The mac and cheese with shrimp tasted OK, but only had 6 shrimp! Would expect a lot more for $21! Fish & chips was completely standard. Really was hoping for a cool local place to visit often, but just OK food and super high prices will keep me from coming back. read more

Far surpassed my expectations, with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Stellar service, the waitress was very attentive the whole time. We tried their own rye whiskey and it was complex and flavorful to say the least. The rye pretzel knots themselves came with mouth watering warm smoked gouda cheese sauce and whole seed mustard. There was thinly sliced sausage which cost a lot extra, but quantity-wise it was only about 1/4 or maybe even less of one sausage so that was kind of a bummer. Still giving 5 stars though because the service and quality of food was awesome. We also got the pork poutine with truffle oil and it was intensely delicious and filling. Would get again in a heartbeat. Definitely came home with leftovers! I think we had 5 meals total out of it. Overall lovely place with delicious food and great quality drinks. We hadn't been here in over a year. The first and last visit wasn't terrific so it took us a long time to try it again. We also wanted to be fair and once is not a fair test. Four of us went - two from Asheville and two from out of town. We had a great evening from the service to the food. Our waitress, Kaycee, was great - confident, efficient and fun. Three of us ordered the fish fry which comes with French fries and truly enjoyed them. One ordered the pork chop and said it was both tender and juicy (sometimes hard to do with a chop). My partner also order one pig's wing and we all had a bite. It was delicious. The lights in the booth were pretty bright and we hesitantly asked if they could be dimmed. They were happy to do so and said they were glad we asked. All in all we had a truly enjoyable evening. We'll be back! read more

We really enjoyed celebrating our sons birthday on the covered comfortable patio at Rye Knot. The restaurant is in north Asheville with plenty of free parking. Our server Felicia was friendly and accommodating and we were impressed with the teamwork of the entire server team. The pork belly Brussels sprout app dish was large enough for a meal and a perfect keto meal. Our group tried the flatbread, fish and chips and bratwurst With Brussels sprouts graciously subbed for the delicious looking fries to keep it keto. Our 7 year old grandson liked his cheese pizza from the kids menu and had enough to take leftovers home. There is a varied beer and bar menu including their beer and spirits made on site. It was fun for the three adults to share a a flight of their distilled spirits. We look forward to our next visit to Rye Knot! read more

Great menu with excellent entrees and superb pub bites if just needing a nosch with your beverage. Beer selection is wide ranging but the real gem is the house distilled Rye. A superb rendition with a blend of smoke, caramel, and spice... a double shot with an ice chip is my favorite way to enjoy this local hidden treasure. Wait staff has always been helpful and friendly. Great place to enjoy the Army-Navy game in the fall. Great atmosphere for gatherings with family and friends plus a great sports bar section with multiple TVs to catch all the action. Hard to miss gem in North Asheville area. But definitely worth the visit! We had the "Poutine" fries and Mussels as appetizers. Fries were a great starter, as were the mussels. (We liked the mussels with extra spice!) I had the Reuben, while our friends had the meatloaf. Rave reviews all around! The staff was very helpful, friendly, and efficient. First trip to Asheville for our 22nd anniversary and on our first night we found Rye Knot through hotel. After looking at their menu we said why not. Great choice! More of a local place vs tourist, it is casual and relaxing yet offers both casual and upscale food. The decor was a fun mix including local art for sale. Our waiter was wonderful and the owner stopped by a couple of times to chat. We are from Texas so of course had the ribeyes. They were delicious; aged perfectly, not over seasoned so you could taste the meat and perfectly medium rare. . I think it was a toss up between the steak and the tallow fries on which we loved the most. The mashed potatoes were yum and if you like smoke flavor the Mac and cheese is for you. They also have their own brewery and distillery. We got a flight to start with and both ended up liking the IPA. Great first meal in Asheville and highly recommend! read more

Prices r going up slowing which means better servers and better cooks. Also the atmosphere has changed a lot since opening. I do think they need to pick a theme. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews! We came on a Saturday night without a reservation and were made to feel comfortable and welcomed. The food is fantastic at least what we have, fish and chips and meatloaf. The fish was a little heavily breaded but still good the fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. But the smoked meatloaf, oh the meatloaf! It is a generous portion, smoked and smothered in delicious gravy with grilled zucchini and mashed potatoes. You can't go wrong here. The only downside is dessert. The peanut butter pie and apple butter cheesecake, while made in house, missed the mark. We will definitely go back! read more

I was hoping this restaurant was going to be a local favorite, as we are only 7 min away . First I have to say , we were here on a busy Friday night in late April & had a fabulous dinner & evening. This was not the case this past Saturday evening. Even though we arrived after 8:00 , hoping the place had thinned out , it didn't matter as the service was beyond terrible . We sat outside which was only 30-40 percent full . Inside the rest was empty . The two servers were doing the best they could . Even after we ordered at 8:30 , it took a full hour for 2 entrees to arrive . I'm not complaining about spending $18 for a Reuben sandwich w cold fries , I am complaining about my wife's salmon which was well done , even after she specifically asked for rare - Med rare . I did enjoy the craft beer selection . The diners around us experienced the same problem . I realize restaurants have issues from time to time , however I would expect the owner / mgr to alert us upon arrival of food that was taking that long . I didn't see a manager on site . Really hoping this rest gets back on the ball , I know a lot of money was invested getting this new place up and running. read more
