Really fun small but fun the is a basketball court playground for small kids and kids some workout places and a big field and swimming pool

I had no idea that a neighborhood and a park like this was located in this part of SJC. It is a little hidden from the main road and is a hidden gem. The homes on this reminded me of styles of homes in London. The park itself is big for an urban park. Lots of greenery, big trees, a bbq area, a lot of benches, and a nice trail that goes around it. There was a pool as well. It was sad to see homeless folks in the area. My heart goes out to them. read more

Ok, so the real dog park is across the street in the actual park. The dirt and gravel "dog park" should be closed due to the size and condition. Why limit yourself to the tiny park across the street based on the label? Grab your furry friend and join in the fun at the actual park. This park is always really clean and is a safe place for dogs of all sizes and ages. All the dogs that I have met here are well-behaved and have great owners/companions. I took my 3-month-old puppy and she was able to meet new friends while being off-leash at a pleasant park with some really good people. read more

Honestly, this park is the actual Ryland Dog Park, where your kids are subordinate to the 20 people there at any given time with their dogs off leash, despite the fact an actual dog park is across the street. It's beyond irritating as pretentious Bay Area dog owners act as if there aren't five leash law signs - and they convert any green space into a dog park. They literally have "hours" they all meet. My issue is not all families and kids like dogs, and some people have a fear of dogs. Or the responsible dog owners have their dogs constantly approached by leash-less dogs as their owner browses social media, without a clue as to where their dog went. I have had dogs snatch my kids ball, and other kids have been chased around screaming. Owners use the always irritating "oh my dog is nice line." I. Don't. Care. I wrote to our council member to see if they could make the actual dog park more appealing so the families can reclaim the green space at Ryland Park. Tired of dodging dog poop, and having unwanted interactions with other people's dogs. Other than that - when the park is used by people- it's a very nice space. read more

I love the simplicity of this park. I admire it when walking by. Yesterday stopped with Adam and was surprised that there is a pool here as well. Awesome! The park is usually partially gated but easily accessible. Nice simple bench that's spaced well. Green shrubs and healthy looking plants all around. I don't know but it looks very romantic anytime of the day. I usually walk by around 4-5 but I've seen it at 9pm during summer and I like it too!:) It's in a very quite part of a neighborhood that feels like it's miles away from everything. There's a playground, a couple of basketball courts, there's a pool that's open like 3 weeks every year during summer (yeah... why??), and it has a picnic area with lots of tables and benches. The picnic area can be reserved for parties.There's a small field for dogs and people to run, play, or sleep. It's clean (I don't know about the restrooms, I'm too scared to check them out) and it has lots of greenery. It's in a quiet neighborhood but bums like to hang out and sleep here morning, noon, and night. read more

I have not been to Ryland park for years. We went today and it was beautiful. Aside from the occasional unhoused screaming, we felt very safe. Family friendly, dog friendly. Lots of space to play. We will be back. read more

Yelp has this park all wrong. It is not a dog park. There is a dog park just across the street, under the Market-Coleman overpass. Please, Yelp, un-confuse things and make separate entries for these 2 different parks. Ryland Park has a nice grassy area for soccer, frisbee, homeless napping or whatever. There's also a nice playground for the kids, 1 & 1/2 basketball courts, chess tables, BBQs & picnic areas, the swimming pool that's open 20 days a year and a nice sitting area close to 1st St for the homeless to watch the squirrels & traffic. I love how they used the space here. There is a pool, playground, fitness area, picnic area, basketball court, and lots of grass. I especially like how the playground is made to look like a train with tracks and all. There is a parking lot, but its small. There isn't much street parking unless you park in the neighbor next door. The downside of this park is that it is downtown. Some homeless like to sleep on the benches off of First Street. But they are usually gone during the day and have never bother me. read more

I live directly across from this park on the San Pedro end, about a block and a half on the other end of Ryland Spark Drive. What an amazing privilege to sit and watch the dogs being trained for the Humane Society on the end right near San Pedro. As a result, most of the dogs in our neighborhood are purebred rescues!! And, across San Pedro the opposite corner has a true Dog Park" so if any of the dogs "don't play well with others, they also have their own, less active, park. And as that isn't enough, the trainers come once or twice a week and approximately twice a week, the trainers take classes in obdience training in a huge circle. There is plenty of parking, but it is from the San Pedro St. Do not park anywhere on Ryland Pats Drive. There are only six "permit only". parking spaces and after eye surgery with my handicapped placque properly displayed. In fact, I even both called in and had a San Jose P.D. patrol come by and I stopped him and he said that a Handicap Placque had priority over their sign. Neverless I was sitting on the curb on the park side of the street and one of the residents had so call my attention to the fact that a man from the Fountain Park was taking down my car's information. Mind you, I am a 70 year old disabled woman who had just had eye surgery and had on an eye patch!!!I explained that San Jose Police Department has said I was within the law. Their employ3e pulled a complete attitude adjustment, puffing his large chest, squaring his legs apart in a way to engage another warrior and told me that he didn't give a "darn" (expletive replaced), that as far as his employers were concerned Ryland Park Drive and the adjoining Ryland Park Way and Ryland Park Place were completely private property,!!!!!!! Just be careful, PLEASE!!! As for the rest of the park,bit is a totally ideal place. There are basketball courts, tons of children's climbing and other playground things. A very well kept building for the bathrooms, etc are kept quite kept up. BUT THE BEST PART IS THAT NOT HAS A LARGE SWIMMING POOL AND SECOND, SMALLER CEMENT HIT TUB!!! read more

Take my lil one here on the regular. Yes there are homeless people who hang out in the front, but not once have they bothered us. Usually a couple of guys around playing ball and an officer usually drives by on the regular to make sure anything isn't going down. Love that there's a place to have a small party and grill food. Bathrooms are usually clean but def bring the hand sanitizer because the soap is usually non existent . So cool that they have a part sectioned off for the littler kids, however I would say the see-saw like animals do need to be fixed. Don't let the outside fool you, that park is awesome and everyone keeps to themselves.. they even have work out equipment to use built into the layout of the park so you don't bother the children playing. read more

I really want to love this park, but for some reason I just don't feel comfortable here with my daughter unless I am with my boyfriend. And such a shame bc it's so close to home. I think my problem is that this park doesn't seemed to be monitored well by some sort of park ranger or security or whoever. Many transient people come to hang and I have seen many drinking 40's in broad day light. Overall it's a great park. Grass area, workout area, play, and basketball as well as a pool right next to it. read more

Ok this dog park is about the size of my room. It is very tiny and is right under a freeway so there is no sunlight at all. No grass.. just gravel. Honestly two medium sized dogs would be the max that this "dog park" can comfortably hold. I lived in Japan town about 10 blocks away and my house mates and I owned a Great Dane/Lab mix. It was a BIG dog but granted very very friendly and one of the most well behaved, obedient dogs I have ever taken care of. I would walk him to this dog park and let him run around in the little enclosure even though it was way too small for him.. One day there was a lady with her little Pomeranian at the dog park. I walked in.. said hi... smiled.. and let Audi (the dog) run free. Audi was on his own side of the park sniffing around but slowly made his way up to the other dog.. they weren't doing anything but the lady freaked out.. walked up to my dog and kicked him really hard.. WTF. She said I needed to learn how to take care of a dog and that she was at the dog park first. In the end, I decided that this lady really needed an eye opener when it comes to dogs and dog parks. I never brought Audi back. The only reason why I came was because it was the only dog park walking distance of the house that he would have fun at. plus that lady really pissed me off.. who kicks other people's dogs? .. Good park! All the typical climbing, swinging, sliding, and play features that you find at most parks for kids. I wanted to write this review for the pool, however. It should probably have its own yelp page because it's currently operated by California Sports Center, the hours are very limited, and you have to pay to get in (unlike the park). The Rotary Ryland Pool is the BEST for small kids! It's a huge circle about 2 feet deep at the side and 4 feet in the middle. My 3 year old can easily walk the circumference without getting his chin wet. Wide, easy steps, plus a gentle ramp that can help nervous water bugs ease into the pool. The lifeguards and staff are friendly. They allow most water toys in the pool (balls, diving rings, etc.), and provide lifejackets. The water seems clean (slightly salty from filtration, actually), and is just the right temperature (not chilly, but not warm like bathwater either, yuk). Bonus entertainment! On Mondays, the garbage trucks roll thru the apartment buildings across the street. My son loves this. Also, the light rail passes by on the east side ("Momma, look, train!"), and you can see the jets go by very low on their way to the airport ("BIG AIRPLANE!"). Quite a lot of bang for the buck in the eyes of my boy. My one complaint: Very limited hours. Open only from June thru mid-August, and open swim for only two hours a day (I suppose they teach swim classes there as well). So that's why the minus one star. Well, that and the homeless people sleeping in the grass by the play areas. I was going to complain also that there are no lounge chairs, only benches and plastic upright chairs. But after thinking about it, I decided this keeps the facility more attractive to families and encourages being active with the kids rather than sunbathing. This dog park was pretty bleh. It has a gravel enclosed area for your dog to run around. As well as a fountain to keep your pooch hydrated. And bags and a pooper scooper to clean up after your pet. This place would be good in the summer when it is really hot since it is located under a bridge which would provide lots of shade. The only thing that I didn't like was that every time the wind blew, you would get a whiff of dog poop. It stunk real bad! I should have not stood near the trash can. read more

Great pool! Only 1 feet deep on edges and 4 feet in the center. The girls love it and not crowded at all. You can swim all day for $3! The park is so cute but tons of transients hanging out so I was no comfortable out there. The girls have started swim lessons and so far love it! read more

This is a fave park amongst my family! My 7year old really likes the oversized disc shaped swing! My son goes nuts for the choo choo train shaped play structure.and I like that the 2-5 year old section is gated..The park has about 3 slides ..a zipliner..a little (thing) you sit on and it spins! Big kid swings..toddler swings ..basketball courts and a little grassy are..there are a handful of picnic tables and a small parking lot..bathrooms and swimming pool!Great park!!well except the last time we visited there was a homeless man ..hanging around.. Great swimming pool, nice staff, but too limited hours.... Really, three hours open swim so a few kids can have lessons. More open swim=more revenue. I get it, lessons are guaranteed income, but come on, the pool is so large, seems classes could consolidated. Major con: Picnic area is over run with bold, dirty, drunk/drugged people. (Drinking directly under a posted sign, no alcohol consumption) Rudely swearing, throwing the "F" bomb freely as we walked by with adolescent kids that know better. Area smells of urine and booze. Very uncomfortable walk from parking lot to pool. San Jose police beat officer in charge of this area is really missing the boat. With a little police patrol, it wouldn't b so "comfortable" for people to hang out. read more

I love this park and pool!! The playground is excellent, especially if you have little kids, the park is very clean and open. The pool is excellent too if you have little kids. The pool is only 4 feet deep, which is great if you have several children to keep an eye on and you are the only adult. Supervising them is easier especially with the lifeguards. They provide swimming lessons which is almost "private" and resonably priced. Lifevests are also available. The park has a basketball court area, picnic area, and grass area that usually has a dog training class in session when we come in the evenings. There is also a dog park across the street. This is a must see! read more

Simple and clean park. Sometimes people let their dogs run free because the off-leash area is not that great, but I'm a good citizen, I keep my pup leashed. :D It's nice an cozy with great play areas. Definitely worth skipping St. James for this. read more

This is a cute little park, and very family oriented. For some reason, the majority of the playground is covered with bark instead of sand. I'm sure there's a function to this I'm not keen to, but it's a mystery. I personally don't like the feel of bark chunks between my toes. But I guess that just means I'll have to wear shoes while tra-la-la'ing through the playground. There are a couple different playgrounds here. It might look kind of like a cage, as the playground itself is surrounded by about a 3' tall gate. Though I imagine this works well for taming the wee children who want to run, roll, and bounce all over the place. You've got your slide. Your monkey bars. Your balance beam. Another little monkey bar sections. A huge green field. Trees. Bushes. Children. Dogs. Yey! There's even a community pool, but you have to sign up with them to use it. My only weird qualm with the park is that they lock it up at night. I think it's to keep it from being vandalized. But still. A wee bit strange. Still a cool neighborhood park though. read more

The time my family visited, there was a disturbance within some of the homeless that live there.it was bad and we had kids with us.

The park is nice and cleaned regularly. There is a nice enclosed area for small kids to play. Yes, there are sometimes homeless people hanging around, but they are harmless and we do live in a city. The pool is nice and clean and great for kids. The swimming lessons are so-so, but the kids on staff are very nice. This is great community resource almost totally wasted because of the VERY limited hours and open swim. I mean who takes their kids between 1:30 and 3:30 the hottest, most sun-intensive part of the day? How about 1:30-6:00? After all, they would raise more money! read more

I love taking my daughter to this park. It's a really great place for small children. It's generally kept clean and the playground is as safe as they can make it. What really makes the park though is the swimming pool. The city just reopened it for a brief time this summer after a lot of budget negotiations. The pool is perfect for children who don't know how to swim yet. It's only 4 feet deep at the center and the perimeter is waist deep on my 2 year old. She loved it there and asks me to take her in every time we go by it. It's really heartbreaking to see how sad she is when I tell her that it's now closed. I hope the city is able to reopen it for longer next summer. read more

Ryland park is nice and I am glad that the city of san Jose maintains the parks often in terms of trees/shrubs and garbage pick up. My only gripe is that there are a handful of homeless people in this park all day every day. They disappear when the park is closed after 9pm, but then reapper every morning and have shopping carts full of stuff. read more

Druggies tend to congregate at the park benches. They usually keep to themselves but when they don't they are insane! I speak from experience. read more

My rating is based on the Dog Park...Worst dog park I've ever been to. It's literally the size of my kitchen, under the freeway, and all dirt. I'm pretty sure no one even uses it but goes across to the normal park where your dogs aren't supposed to be off their leashes. read more

I LOVE this park. When I had a dog, I brought her here to run. Now, I bring my 14 month old daughter here to play on the playground, which I love because it's enclosed. The park itself is beautiful, maintained and well landscaped. The bathrooms are kept clean and it's in a nice area. The only reason it's not a 5 star, is because there are homeless folks who like to hang out here. However, none have ever bothered me. I come here about 2 times a week. read more
