This Toyota used to be okay but something happened in the last year. I tried to schedule an appointment to take my car in for servicing and it was ridiculously difficult. I left multiple voicemails and nobody got back. Finally, I got someone on the phone who didn't really put a lot of effort into helping me. She couldn't take the time to look up my vehicle in their system and tell me what was covered with this service plan based on my mileage. Nevermind that i have been taking my car there for years so that info should be easily accessible. Instead, she transferred me to voicemail. I left multiple voicemails, never got a single call back. Finally called and asked to speak to a supervisor, only to get yet another voicemail box. This one was completely full so I was unable to leave a voicemail. WOW. This is the worse service I have ever received at any Toyota and I have been a Toyota customer for decades. I ended up going to Hansel in Petaluma which was a great experience. Even though I had never been there and I wasn't in their computer, they were able to tell me what was included before i came in. They told me how much it would cost and scheduled me in the next day. This afternoon mom called says let's get a 7 seat car, and by 6:30pm I drove the car that I wanted back home. Positive experience, I know exactly the car I wanted so I called ahead, put down the deposit and visited the store. Samson Li greeted us and showed us the car, a bit test drive, then we move to purchase. He is super knowledgeable about the vehicle, gave me a quick 101, and set up all the apps/connections for me. And Thomas jumped in and demonstrated us how to take out the 8th seat when Samson didn't know the answer. Overall, a very comfortable purchasing experience, I walked out pretty happy and felt all my questions answered properly by the sales team and was treated nicely. The only thing that can be improved is during the "checkout" process, I think it was Sunny? who helped me with doc signs and check collection. There was a doc about disclosure of my current insurance, and when I tried to ask a question, he straightly replied with an attitude " I'm not doing insurance, I'm a finance guy." Novato Toyota has done an amazing service selling me a car. Austin was always there when I came in and he took me seriously even when I'm not dressed up or if my dad is buying the car for me. What got me to choose Novato instead of San Rafael is because in San Rafael, I went there at an unannounced time and everyone told me they were too busy for me and set an appointment instead. Another time a companion of that sales person was straight forward saying if your dad is not here I won't negotiate and sales are final. Austin at Novato Toyota allowed me to discuss different prices of cars I can choose and mentioned how much off they'll give except no negotiation. Another mistake Austin did was add an extra warranty without discussing with my dad first and had him sign without letting him know. We had to discuss later with the financial manager who later added 10 years and 100,000 miles extra warranty on the car other than the battery for the same price Austin, the sales manager had mentioned at first but only 5 years without even negotiating since my dad is 84, he thought it was clever to trick my dad but I was around to make sure he didn't get tricked. If you're old, get your son or daughter to talk to them because they will try to get as much money out of you as they can. ** BUYER BEWARE ** Trying to buy a car at this dealership was my worst consumer experience ever. Furthermore, I have never had this many insults to my intelligence in one day. I would never do any business with this dealership. Here is the context. I was in the market to buy a new 2025 RAV4. In late March 2025, I noticed a RAV4 in transit to this dealership, so I called and reserved the vehicle with a $500 deposit. On Sat April 19th, we came to the dealership to finalize the sale. This vehicle has a Total SRP above $32K. We were asking for a mere $600 discount, in addition to the existing $1,000 dealer advertised adjustment. Thomas Philavong and Laith Burjaq were the salesmen on that day. Here are some highlights of this car buying experience. (a) Thomas started with a "passionate" speech, saying we cannot negotiate price when buying a car. "When you buy groceries from the supermarket, do you negotiate prices?!" I replied, "When you buy a house, do you negotiate the price?!" (b) When we showed nearby dealerships' deeper discounts on similar RAV4 vehicles, Thomas said we couldn't compare different RAV4s: "that's not an apples-to-apples comparison." Yet, Thomas thought car buying and grocery shopping was "an apples-to-apples comparison." How ridiculous is that. (c) Thomas showed the dealership web page saying "Novato Toyota One Price". In fact, the "one-price policy" applies to used cars only. https://www.novatotoyota.com/novato-toyota-one-price.html (d) Thomas asked, "Why didn't you negotiate the price when reserving the car?!" I replied I preferred face-to-face communication. This question (further) indicates the "one-price policy" is not relevant to new car sales. (e) One of Thomas' points went, "We need to take care of our salespeople like Laith. What if we only make a $5 profit on the vehicle sale?!" You mean, on a $32K vehicle?! I laughed, "What do you think I am?! A five-year-old?!" (f) In the ensuing price discussions, Laith mentioned a full tank of gas as a bargaining chip. In fact, the mandatory destination charge includes a full tank of gas anyway. We left after 2.5 hours of drama. I despise myself for wasting this much time of my life. Moral of the story: you can't win business by repeatedly insulting your customer's intelligence, and treating him like an idiot. Moreover, ruining someone's Easter weekend is not an effective sales tactic either. read more

Turned out, it was highly recommended I replaced the timing belt as no sticker was found as to when it would need to be changed again. The 1998 Toyota has over 325,000+ miles, and is going strong, it deserved to be replaced. Financially it is was really hard to stomach the amount after getting some hefty, almost bankrupting medical bills at the begging of the year. I want to express my huge gratitude and appreciation to the team at the Novato Toyota Service department for going above and beyond to get us back on the road. Especially Bob Carpenter and Bing. My partner and I were stranded Saturday evening in Mill Valley when our 2001 Toyota Sequoia wouldn't start. We live n the foothills, and work weekends on the Bay, so we had to camp out until Monday morning. We assumed it was the starter, and because it is located under the intake manifold in the 2UZFE V8, I knew it would be a big job. I wanted a genuine Toyota starter so that I could go another 23 years before needing to replace it, rather than every 2 years of I went to another shop. The plan was to tow it to Marin Toyota, as it was the closest. I was nervous if they would have space in their schedule when I showed up first thing Monday morning. I spoke to a friend in Novato and she insisted I go the extra distance to Novato Toyota, as her sister had a great experience with their service department. I relented, as it would cost me an extra $160 in towing fees. After reading some reviews, I made the decision, which was confirmed by our tow truck driver who said people he tows have had much better experience at Novato versus Marin. As we drove past Marin I could see that it was already a Zoo, at 7 am, and I imagined my we would have been waiting hours before even speaking to anyone. As soon as we pulled in to Novato Toyota, Bob came out to greet us, like a ray of sunshine, assuring me they would take good care of us and get us back on the road as soon as possible. I felt hopeful. They were quickly able to do the initial diagnosis, confirming that it would need a new starter, as I expected, and they found one in San Ramone. He assured me that they would get to work as soon as it arrived later that afternoon. They gave us a complimentary ride to our friends house in Novato. The quote was $1600 for labor, which I expected, because it is a big job for this particular engine. Later that day I got a call from Bing, and he informed me that upon further electrical testing they discovered that the relay wasn't getting juice. This meant that the starter wasn't actually the issue! He did some detective work and found some strange wires hanging from the drivers footwell. He discovered some kind of alarm system that had been kicked, disconnecting the wires that fed the starter relay. He even sent me pictures of what he discovered. He said they would figure it out and put it back together, and have it ready for me to pick up first thing in the morning. They were working after hours at this point. The best part is that the new total went from around $1800 to less than $500! I picked it up Tuesday morning, and we were back on the road. I generally have a mistrust of dealership service departments, but I will not hesitate to take my beloved Sequoia to Novato Toyota for any future needs. read more

Where do I start!! They forgot to order a part so they had to drive all the way to San Francisco to get it. I just came in to get some rims put on but I had to wait over 6 hours for them to take care of something that should've taken only an hour. There was nothing to do so thank goodness for smartphones so I could watch a movie.
