The firefighters removed the stove pipe from the wood stove to the ceiling 18 feet above and from the roof up to the chimney cap: they wanted to be sure that there was no fire anywhere. After the "all clear", we made four calls to find someone to put us back together: we needed heat. Two did not provide a return call. One could put us on a list. Mike called back within 30 minutes and was at our place within 90 minutes. Not really knowing the conditions of our place, he offered and brought special cleaning supplies for the fine dust of the ash and fire extinguisher. He assessed the situation and got to work. Not only was he professional and efficient, he was empathetic, personal and funny. We cleaned. He reassembled; was very thorough about being sure things went back together to ensure safety; taught us things about fire building and maintenance; and ensured that we had heat from the wood stove by 5pm. Which is probably why the original owners attempted to convert it to gas. We wanted wood, not gas, and we wanted to get the 26% federal income tax credit. So we visited A Fireplace Store and More and spoke to the woman working there. She set up a date for Rony to come out and give us an estimate. Rony showed up on time and we settled on a modern high efficiency biomass fireplace insert that qualifies for the credit. Parts and labor was not cheap, but we wanted a quality appliance and this business has decades of experience, which we also wanted. We put down a deposit and set the installation day, which was today. Rony and his team showed up on time, worked quickly, did good quality work and cleaned up afterwards. Rony explained how to use the new fireplace and was all done in a matter of 3-4 hours. Very happy with our purchase and service and we can't wait until we can use it this winter.
