I was looking for a quote for chimney tuckpointing. They insisted that I make an appointment for over a week later and be present. Unnecessary, the condition and work needed were obvious from a quick look. Guy did come out as scheduled. He proposed a lot of extensive work that I thought unnecessary. His quote of over $15,000 turned out to be SIX times more than one estimate and FOUR times another. I chose one of those others and am VERY happy with the results. (See my other Yelp reviews.) Matt and his colleague came today to inspect and clean two fireplaces - one gas and one wood-burning - that have not been cleaned or professionally examined in over 10 years. Matt was fantastic - professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. He educated us on the maintenance needs of both fireplaces. Gave recommendations on options for our 75+ year old masonry. Did ONLY what was needed today based on how we use the units and what we were looking for. He could have "taken us" for more work or money given that we are not well-educated on fireplaces, but instead he took the time to explain what was needed (and not). He took pictures, explained work that is needed, and inspected the outside masonry of the chimneys. Excellent service and quality work. They work fast. Our home has limited scaffolding, but the team made it work. Everything done is explained to you and they showed me photos of before and after of the work done on the chimney. Andrew came in and was able to explain our problem. Our home was built over 100 years ago and back then, some.homes connected their kitchen exhaust to the chimney. This is not safe and we wouldn't have know if we hadn't seen brown goo dripping down the drywall covering the chimney shaft. Overall, this company is great. INSTALLED NEW CHIMNEY LINER AND REPLACED CRUMBLING BRICK We were in danger of a carbon monoxide leak due old furnace with improperly place duct work, crumpling brick, and no chimney liner in our 1949 home. We live in Chicago, and were delighted that Capital (I think it was Dominick,) was willing to give us a free estimate and that we decided to use their services. Dominick was very clear and precise about the multiple issues that needed fixing, but assured us that there was NO carbon monoxide leak. He helped us decide what liner would be right for us (the less expensive one). He wrote a very clear estimate, which was the least expensive compared to two other estimates. We normally do not decide to hire service companies with the lowest estimate, but we were very impressed with Dominicks' explaination of what needed to be done. There was no pressure and no upselling. He did explain that there might be an extra charge if the serviceperson discovered a problem inside the chimney involving extra labor. I was nervous about that possibility but went ahead and hired Capitol. CONCLUSION: They came out on time, did a great job and did NOT add any more charges to the original estimate. Incredible service and professionalism. Our chimney on new property was inoperable with broken crown and flue which was missing cap and collapsed in. Jorge came out and assessed the issues and evicted a half dozen squirrels in the process. They came back later when the squirrel family was gone and replaced the crown, flue and converted the gas bar for a starter. They are fantastic and very professional. Have always had gas fireplace and wanted to go for wood burning. He explained the pros/cons of everything with cost in mind and we are very happy with the end result. We called Capital regarding a stuck flue on our fireplace chimney. After fixing that, the estimator Charles went on our roof and discovered the hidden problem--the chimney for our furnace/hot water heater. The chimney required total rebuilding above the roof line and installation of a liner and a cap. The estimator provided photos confirming the situation, and discussed options, very knowledgeably. The owner Michael provided references and offered a financing plan (which we did not use). After we signed the contract, scheduling the work and obtaining the village permit went smoothly. The crew, led by Derrek, arrived on time, kept us informed of all work over three days, answered our questions, cleaned up, and gave us photos of the work. I called Capital Chimney on a recommendation to perform an annual cleaning on both of my wood burning fireplaces. This is a newer home to me and I have not had this service performed. Patrick was the technician sent to my house. Upon inspection, he found some issues that I was not aware of. He explained everything in great detail and provided pictures. We just moved into an older house and noticed some leakage in the ceiling near the fireplace after a bad storm. We needed someone to assess the chimney before winter anyway, so we had them come out to take a look. Dominic (a co-owner of the company) did a cleaning and an assessment of the whole fireplace/chimney, including looking on the roof to provide some suggestions for what we might want to seal up. I was VERY happy with his report. It was detailed and thorough, which is exactly what I wanted so I could understand the state of the house. He went through everything and made recommendations for bringing it all up to code, including some things I could do myself. I have not yet committed to having them do the work (might need to put it off for a year), but when I do, I'll definitely want Dominic involved. I'll post another review or update this one when that happens, but if you're in the same boat as me, I'd strongly recommend the cleaning and inspection. read more

We've had work completed by David, Derrick and Kyle (him 2x) and they are absolute gentlemen ... know their 'stuff', are clean, courteous and work together like champs. From the first call to their office (very efficient, by the way) to all the work they completed - cleaning & glazing fireplace, replacing & repairing multiple damaged flues & clay tiles plus replacing 30 years worth of horrible furnace & water heater liners (from basement to chimney) and 2-3 other technical roof or chimney needs -- whew! They did most of the work last Friday & on Saturday ... the boiler wasn't working properly (so chilly house) ... they nearly immediately sent a couple of guys out (2 new guys, also great) who found the problem & fixed it promptly! We received a few quotes but went with them because they were comparable in price to the other quotes and Dominic was great at explaining everything to me. Two months later after all of the work was done I had a smell coming from the fireplace and our Carbon Monoxide detector went off. Contracting and scheduling service is easy and their reps were always helpful and accommodating The team showed up promptly, worked efficiently and cleaned up nicely. Derrek was especially helpful in talking through the work and coordinating cleaning in multiple units for my building. I'd add a sixth star to the review - not because everything went perfectly, but because it didn't. I misunderstood an additional service quote and authorized/paid for additional chimney work that I didn't actually want done. It wasn't until the next day I caught the mixup. Shortly after I purchased my 1955 house in May 2020 a heavy rain revealed a leak from my chimney. I went on Yelp and found Capital Chimney. Over the past 10 or so years, we've experienced a very annoying problem with our chimney. During heavy rains, we would have water dripping or running down the inside of the chimney into the firebox of our gas fireplace. We had used several firms in an attempt to solve the issue. This included re-tuckpointing the chimney. That may have been a waste of money. All to no avail. Then, Capital Chimney was recommended to us. Derrick H and his assistant, Anthony, showed up on time which not what all of our previous sweeps had done. They clearly diagnosed the problem and showed me detailed pictures of the issues. After the go ahead, they repaired everything to my great satisfaction, including after pictures of the completed work. This service was done in late September. I am writing this in the latter part of October following a particularly heavy rainstorm. Following the storm, I can say that there is no problem any longer.
