I wanted to write this review just as a forewarning. I purchased the Groupon for 2 IPL, $150. I waited about 1 month for my appointment, it was with their nurse Caroline. She was absolutely fantastic and very thorough. I unfortunately was not a candidate for the IPL due to my melasma, but Caroline explained everything thoroughly and gave me some other treatment options to consider. I went home and researched about IPL and melasma, sure enough even the NIH does not recommend IPL if you have melasma - risk of making it worse and untreatable. Groupon insisted I provide written proof that I did not receive the IPL in order to process a refund (the voucher had been redeemed by SK clinic, even tho I had not received the treatment). I emailed and called to get the written letter. My review would have been 4 stars had it not been for the events that transpired after requesting my medical records for services I did not receive. I got a call from Kimberly at SK clinic, she was extremely rude. She told me that she "in fact does treat melasma with an IPL" and requested for me to come in and do a "test patch" to see if it would make my melasma worse. I told her I did not feel comfortable with that plan as I had already received my in-person consult from Caroline, whom I had a great visit with, and the research I had done after matched what Caroline had recommended. Kimberly became agitated and rude. I find it very unfortunate and quite odd that 2 practitioners at the same office would recommend completely opposite things. I also find it concerning that one would recommend something clearly not science backed ... at the risk of making my skin WORSE, and completely voiding my IPL voucher making it a waste of money. Caroline would receive 5 stars. The clinic 3.5. And Kimberly 1 ... hence the 2 stars. read more

I didn't want to do this but wanted to share my experience per recommendation of my family and my OBGYN. I guess I should start with how I found SK clinic for laser hair removal. I looked up the reviews and booked it because of the reviews. I was excited to start treatments again since I moved to San Diego. I booked for the bikini area. Now for the first appointment, I thought it was great. Staff was friendly and no issues. The second appointment was a disaster. I liked the nurse at the start and that day she seemed distracted. I get these times are hard for everyone and I tried to put that aside for the appointment. When the treatment started I was wincing in pain from the laser. And I have had this before, but this pain was unbearable. The nurse shared she has a note to "not go any lower in the settings" so I guess I just figured I'd bear with the pain since the nurse kept going. I was literally jumping at the laser each time it was set on. After it was over I just remember being in a lot of pain after, again, me thinking maybe this normal or different from other appointments. I never checked what it looked like. Two days later I was at my OBGYN and she was in SHOCK for what she saw. I had scabs all over my bikini area. It was so alarming for her, including myself, let alone the embarrassment. I was prescribed an antibiotic ointment to treat it and she suggest to call SK clinic and share. I called the clinic and it seemed to be understanding and sympathetic to me. I got an email about a week later from the nurse and I explained the same exact situation in more detail. I got a call from the nurse, and on the phone it just felt like she wasn't sympathetic as she should have. I honestly felt like customer service here was lacking. I had a burst skin for about 10 days of scabbing. I'm sorry but if put in this position she would understand what's going on in terms of what kind of pain I was in. I felt brushed off completely. I still had 4 standing appointments out of my series and knowing that I was still planning to go back, didn't sit right with me. The anxiety of going and sitting in that chair was getting to me. Everyone told me not to go back even my OB as she saw notated the scabbing. I called back to cancel and they sent a check back for the remaining amount of funds I had left. I'm not sure if I will get this done anytime soon or ever again because of my experience. My suggestion, go somewhere else. And go somewhere else to where you will be treated a heck of a lot better than here. read more

I hate to have to write this bad review because Dr. Krant is a really nice guy. With that said, I don't want anyone else to have to go through what I did w/ my breast reconstruction by Dr. Krant. I was referred to him by a friend. I needed to have temporaries using cadaver skin for my first of two surgeries. The temporaries looked perfect. Sadly, all my hopes and dreams for normal-looking breasts were completely dashed w/ my second, permanent surgery. I ended up w/ my right breast looking completely deformed. $34,000 later (and no refund from him for his botched job), this is what i ended up looking like (please see picture). Not to mention my time: for a year and a half, I drove two hours EACH WAY to have my surgeries and follow-ups because i thought Dr. Krant knew what he was doing. What blows my mind is Dr. Krant said, "We never talked about nipple placement!!" Are you kidding me?????!!!!! Dr. Stephen Krant is an amazing detailed and talented plastic surgeon. I've had 2 separate surgeries where he relived 12 years of pain from neck fusion. Scar tissue had developed after a surgery I had in 2010, it was essentially choking me. He removed the scar tissue and thanks to Dr. Krant and his amazing attentive staff, I can breathe easily for the first time in 12 years. Second surgery there was a mass on the back of my neck, he removed that mass; again for the first time in 12 years I've had complete pain relief from tingling/excruciating prickly pain in my fingers and hands, pain in my forearm and neck pain; full and complete pain relief! Beware getting laser hair removal here. I paid for a Groupon and did not end up finishing my treatment package because they were burning me. The machine is outdated and literally burned white spots into my skin. In addition it doesn't seem like they sanitize the equipment effectively. After the last treatment I was willing to have done by them I noticed that the laser machine was only wiped down lazily with a disinfectant wipe and that was the last straw for me. read more

I have had too many IPL's from Kimberly to count! Most of them were at another clinic where she worked. I have always received great results, and with minimal discomfort. I like that I can receive numbing for as long as needed. (Some clinics do not allow that.). I have had five practitioners in two states work on my Rosacea, and she has been the best by far. I look forward to my treatments (used to dread them) because Kimberly is such a lovely person and caring nurse. She manages to get me to relax, which is crucial to have a pleasant experience. My experience with Dr. Krant and his staff was first class. IN fact I am shocked to hear about the reports by the naysayers below. I was treated with respect and kindness, my results are so fabulous and beautiful that no one can tell what major procedure I had done and after enjoying a massage at SK Sanctuary next door, I remember thinking this kind of five star service and results are why Dr. Krant has such an impeccable record in La Jolla and San Diego. My feeling for those reading about the insurance billing etc, is that in my experience, you must manage and control your own billing and communication between doctors and insurance companies. My kiddo has a genetic issue so we are in and out of hospitals often and I've been working with medical reimbursement issues for 8 years because of this. It is grossly unfair to negatively rate a skilled plastic surgeon b/c of insurance company billing issues. One must point the finger inward first. If Dr Krant was such a crook (note the spelling) and not an excellent surgeon he wouldn't have remained in business in La Jolla/SD for as long as he has. I have heard from several women in the last few weeks that their "Sientra " implants were actually tagged as "Silimed Brasil " instead & in Dec. 2016 https://m.facebook.com/skcliniclajolla/ put these implants in me & told me that they were made in America, a company in California. Instead, they were made in Brazil & asked by Sientra in Oct. 2015 to no longer use them in patients in the letter found at the site below. I have been sick nonstop #BII for 2.5 yrs until I explanted 5/24. I NEED AN ATTORNEY ASAP, MAYBE CLASS ACTION FOR THE REST OF YOU OUT THERE IN THE SAME SITUATION? ANY SUGGESTIONS ON GOOD ATTORNEYS? I have also read that the plant in Brazil caught on fire but haven't found out why. MINE CAME OUT YELLOW SMELLING LIKE GASOLINE! Does this mean they salvaged some from the fire or had ingredients in them that fueled the fire & still used these recalled implants in patients? I'm not even sure where to begin. There are so many wonderful things to say about Dr. Krant and his entire staff. From pre-op to post-op the care I received has been above and beyond. Everyone here really seems to really care about the patient. I'm actually going to miss my postop visits because I so enjoy everyone at this office. Dr. Krant is not only a wonderful physician and surgeon and a very caring doctor but he is an artist when it comes to his work. I would say he is somewhat of a perfectionist. I had a very extensive and difficult breast revision surgery and he far exceeded any expectations. Dr.Krant was very upfront and said I would never be 100% again but said that I would definitely be happier and he was absolutely correct. He erred on the conservative side when telling me what to expect but I am beyond happy with my results. I appreciate his honesty and his realistic expectations for my procedure. I purchased a Groupon for laser hair removal from the SK clinic, and as anyone who regularly purchases groupons knows, they can be hit or miss. Well this was definitely a hit! Not only did I feel like I was treated like any other patient, not some cheap*** using a Groupon, I felt like Kimberley's service went above and beyond. When I asked about what would happen if the laser was not effective on my dark blonde hair, she offered to do a tester spot, and refund the Groupon if it wasn't effective for me. She also took the time to educate me on various other cosmetic procedures I was curious about, and sent a follow up email to see how I felt after treatment. As a student in the medical field myself, I know how important your manner towards patients is, and she excelled in her professionalism and warmth. I went in for a consultation August 2020 and all of my questions were thoroughly addressed for my mommy makeover. The staff were very thoughtful, polite, and exceptionally professional. I had my surgery in October of 2020 and I love my results. As an African American woman, I was worried about how I would scar as I am prone to keloids and hyperpigmentation. Dr. Krant and his staff went above and beyond to care for me after my surgery. When my car was having issues and the person who had to drive to and from my appointments could not pick me up, Dr. Krant had a staff member use his personal vehicle to drive me home. When I needed to take medical leave from school due to my healing, Dr. Krant wrote a letter for me so that I could provide it to my university to excuse me for the time out of courses. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder 5 months after my cosmetic surgeries that would entail myself getting laparoscopic surgery through my abdomen and Dr. Krant reached out to one of my medical health providers to get/share information regarding how I would be cut. In fact, he is the nation's leading proponents of the mid facelift, which most plastic surgeons I have researched do not perform. By including the mid facelift, or malar, in your facelift procedure, you will avoid that stretched, freakish, tight facelift, mask look that people make fun of. Gravity goes from north to south. Dr. Krant defies gravity by gently bringing the face back up north. Not across east to west. Then he smooths out and removes the unsightly, aging gowls and turkey neck. After years of waxing, I finally decided to try laser hair removal. I've always been skeptical about how well it would work, but after calling SK clinic and being offered such a great deal, I couldn't refuse. Everyone was very friendly, the place was very nice and clean, in a good area and had plenty of parking right next to the building. The technician was super sweet and funny, and made sure to inform me thoroughly and answer any questions. The process was super quick and I was out of there in no time. After only the first treatment, I noticed that nearly half of my hair never grew back! It was amazing! I just did my second treatment (I paid for a package of 6 treatments for Brazilian and underarms) and I cannot wait to see the results-I am amazed at how quickly it worked and at how amazing the results were. When I had a malignant melanoma on the crown of my head, Dr. Krant excised the tumor and then did a very complex triple-rhomboid flap closure that allowed me to avoid having skin grafts. I know how hard this is because every other physician that I have seen has wanted to see the site and has marveled at Dr. Krant's skill. Second, Dr. Krant is an advocate.
