From the moment I sat down, she was pleasant and listened carefully to what I wanted. She asked thoughtful questions to make sure she completely understood what I had in mind. Her eye for color and highlights is exceptional. She took the time to really look at my skin tone and natural hair color, and then chose the perfect blend of color and highlights to complement my complexion. You can tell she takes pride in her work and has a genuine artistic sense when it comes to selecting the right tones. She also surprised me and added a glaze conditioner during the rinse, which noticeably made my hair soft and silky for weeks afterward! Additionally, I was so impressed watching her work during the cut. She is painstakingly meticulous, checking to make sure that the shape was symmetrical and balanced from every direction. Jesus knows his way around a pair of hair cutting shears! I found him on Instagram - decided to try him out. Was I amazed! I explained the cut I wanted, he listened. I'm now headed to my retreat with waves, and a new kick in my step. The salon itself followed all COVID protocols, and was all in all a pleasant atmosphere. I'm truly happy with my cut & style, and will certainly return for another visit with Jesus! Simply said, Jesus was polite, outgoing, and took his time. All the employees were dressed up lookin good (which makes you trust their style). I made an apt for my husband Joe. Making the appointment was super easy and they got him right in! Jesus cut his hair. My husband Joe has difficult fine hair and is picky. JESUS DID AN AMAZING JOB! He is fun and energetic! The best haircut my hubs has had in years. We will def be back! THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! Mary needs her license taken away! I'm not sure how she ever passed her test! Showed her a photo and the back is way to short and the right side is all busted up! $109 down the drain and definitely not worth it! The stylist paid no attention to detail that day. Wedding day was to close. I had no time for another appointment so they could ruin my hair again. I ended up coloring my own hair. Big smile today! I been growing my hair long so I have not been here too many times this year until yesterday when I decided to dye my hair from brown to blonde. First I tried a home kit and after going through 2 brand name home kits I would never recommend doing this to anyone who has no training. My hair turned streaky bright blonde, orangey and brassy red and just looked plain awful. The next day I decided to come back to S Salon for professional help and was matched up with Cassandra (aka my savior). For starters they squeezed me in within a few hours of my call. Her and I discussed options to correct the catastrophe I created and then she went to work. She was straight upfront that it was going to be challenge but she felt confident she could even out the mess I made and at least make it a consistent color. It seemed like everyone was there for color that day because there was a lot of foil wrapping going on. When it was all said in done after 2+ hours of Cassandra mixing, tweaking and applying her ingredients... I LOOK LIKE A NEW MAN. I was so happy with the results I had to hold back the tears of joy (mainly because there a lot of pretty girls there). If you are within any distance from S Salon I would highly recommend giving them and Cassandra try because they really do know what they are doing and at a fair price to boot. I once wrote a shining 5-star review for S Salon, and I believe that most things are still true, so I will leave that portion alone. I just want to mention a less than wonderful experience I had here, which left me with, quite literally, the worst haircut of my life. I don't want to mention names, because I don't think thats fair (because everyone starts somewhere), so I'll just explain what happened: I got my haircut by a junior stylist. I was pressed for time, as my newborn was home, and I had a short window of time to have my hair done. Long story short, there was a little bit of a miscommunication between me and my stylist, and I was hoping for more layers, and she didn't think that the cut needed layers. I had to go, so I left it as-is (because it was still a good cut). I get home, wash and style my hair, and I really wished there were some more layers in there. I called back immediately, but my stylist was going on vacation, so they had to put me with someone new. When I get to the salon, I start making small talk with the stylist they put me with, since I had never seen her there before. I come to find out that she was fresh out of hairdressing school and has only been on the floor for a month. I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted, and she got started. It was immediately apparent that she was very unsure of herself. She went incredibly slow, put lots of thought into each cut, and at one point walked away and brought back another junior stylist to help her. The other stylist only stuck around for a minute or two, and left. End of story, I leave, and when I get home and wash and style my hair again, I see that she completely made a mess of my hair (I uploaded a pic so you could see it.) I think I'm mostly annoyed because I later looked at the website and saw that she was classified as an assistant. I paid for a junior stylist, so I think my cut should have been fixed by a junior stylist. This is actually not the first time that has happened to me at this salon. Once I saw a senior stylist, and wanted an a-line bob, but the cut was more one length, so when I came back to have the angle adjusted, they put me with a junior stylist. I didn't complain because I got the cut I wanted, but again, if I paid for senior, I should get senior. Side note: I probably sound like I'm never happy...these were literally the only two times I had ever gone back to a salon to get my hair fixed. I hate complaining! I don't want that reputation around the salon as the girl who is never satisfied. Anyway, Sal fixed it himself for free and was very nice about it. But anyway, here are the nice things I had to say about the salon, if you want to check them out. 1) When you start as a new client, they give you a punch card good for 20% off of your first 5 services (I suggest that you save this card for more expensive services like colors) 2) The first year I was with them, they sent me $10 off for my birthday 3) They sent me $10 for filling out their survey 4) I believe they even give $10 for a referral when the person you refer comes in for their first appointment (although I never got mine, when my two referrals went in. My friends were even sure to mention my name, so I don't know what happened there) Another thing that I loved and always took advantage of, is their online booking system. I never quite know what my schedule is like, and I often have to reschedule appointments I've made. You can do that all online, and see what your stylist's schedule is like, so you can pick a time that really works best. Really convenient. I've also noticed is that every stylist is incredibly trendy and well put together. Some of the girls literally go into work wearing 5 inch heels. They take pride in their appearances, and that matters to me. I've gone into salons where the stylists wore sweatshirts and had their hair thrown up in a clip. It really makes me wonder "if you're not taking care of your appearances, will you care enough to take care of mine?" It's really nice that there are different levels of stylist. There's junior, senior, master and owner, so you pay accordingly. Pretty good, if you're on a budget. And their price list is well defined. I've been to salons where the prices are never posted and its always a surprise when you get to the register. The salon itself is really nice and clean, they play good music, and the atmosphere is just good. They offer you a drink when you come in, and a few times when I've come in for the first appointment on a weekend, they've had fruit and pastries out for their clients. read more

When my usual hairdresser went MIA just as I was about to go an a business trip. I was desperate and I needed an appointment somewhere ASAP. My husband scoped Yelp and found a place close by with good reviews and ::gasp:: open on Sundays! I got a 'junior' hairdresser which meant a lot less $$ than a senior hairdresser, but I doubt I could've done any better. I forgot her name already--I'm going back to her today, but she was absolutely great. Made suggestions to get to the color I really wanted, and actually listened to what I wanted versus my prior hairdresser kept swearing me away from the darker color that I've been trying to get. The salon is comfortable and welcoming. There's a 'coloring lounge' so you can chill and watch TV without having to sit out in the salon and make small talk. I'm hoping my experience today is just as good as last time. read more

My hair felt healthy, with a shorter cut, but I paid for highlights, and left with plain brown hair, and was told my hair would lighten. Having colored my hair several times in my lifetime, I know I should be leaving the salon with some highlights showing. I don't know if the glaze she used stayed on too long, because she was doing other people's hair while doing mine, and I sat an extra long time with the glaze on, or if it was just the wrong color? I called, and was told "it will lighten soon and wash it alot." What did I pay for if I have to wait for the color to look good? I don't think they know what they are doing. The customer service is terrible, and the "senior stylist" obviously didn't care, and I should have known, because she told me how she hated her job when I was there. read more

I have been searching for hair salons since I moved into CT and almost every salon I found was disappointing. This salon is better than others that I have tried so far and is very close to my workplace. I see a lot of 5-star reviews for the place but my experience is not that. My first appointment was with a very experienced person (don't want to call out the person's name here) and I was very disappointed. Only because I did not have any other option near my work, I ended up coming here again after 6-7 months and the second time around I chose someone different whose name is mentioned in the reviews a lot ( I think I paid $10 - $15 less for her), she did a somewhat good job. So I opted for her again and the hair cut was decent, but I was disappointed when she started drying my hair without using any heat protection sprays. I like the fact that the place is very clean and the person at the reception is very friendly. But I am yet to find my wow moment here. I might try a different stylist next time. read more

I found Jessica from S salon while at a street fair in Shelton about 5 years ago. I was new to the area and was having trouble finding a stylist I was happy with. I have difficult hair to say the least. I took the discount coupon and gave it a shot. BEST decision I every made, have not even thought about trying anyone else. I just moved to Connecticut and I found a hairstylist that actually cut my hair perfectly the first time (Quinn)! That's rare because I'm SO picky about how my hair looks. The salon has a nice atmosphere and the ladies at the front desk are wonderful. Every time I go there, they offer me something to drink. They will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The only "negative" experience there was having to wait for a sink to have my hair washed. I really wouldn't consider that negative at all though because I enjoy being there and the wait was only 3 minutes. I definitely recommend this salon! read more

I am very happy I switched to S Salon by Salvatore. Natalie is the best! I have never received so many compliments - people saying I look younger, I look brighter, etc. She makes me feel important and focuses on my preferences while we discuss other options. I haven't felt this well treated and respected since my hairdresser from the 1980s who I stayed with for 20 years! I can't remember their names, but the receptionists are wonderful too. Always pleasant and so helpful with any questions! The atmosphere is busy but never too loud. Nice little envelopes for tipping, good hot coffee or cold water, nice tv lounge while you are waiting between steps of your hair appointment. So far, the services do not seem overpriced either. I recently had haircut by Jessica. Great job! Getting lots of compliments at my work. If you are going to salon for the first time and not sure about your choice go to Jessica she will listen and recommend you what will look even better. Another characteristic I like about her and really appreciate that she does not annoying with chatting because sometimes I feel we go to hair salon to relax and feel happier than talk about many things and feel uncomfortable. I absolutely cannot say enough about how talented and fast the owner, Salvatore, is. I had previously seen Heather and she is also very good at what she does. However, I'm willing to pay more for Sal because he is extremely fast and his cuts are very precise. I get a partial highlight and a cut/blow dry for $170. He gets me in and out in less than 80 mins. The receptionist is very personable, though I'd like to see her a bit more made up, for those prices. Also, not a fan of the cape I was wearing while services were provided. It smelled a little weird. I could also tell that Salvatore is a cigarette smoker. Not enough to deter me! The man is so fast and precise, I will go back. Also, at those prices(think SOHO in New Haven), I'd like to be offered a magazine and a beverage. I still give 5 stars because Sal managed what Soho stylists could not. When I called the salon the receptionist said that she would be right back and when I called again she put me on the machine that said the salon was closed. When my son called, they said that they were open. I went in for services of a color/cut which I thought would be exceptional as prices are above average. The color caused breakage as it went far above the root and was too strong which also caused the breakage. The cut was not very good and I was told if I wanted a unique cut I should wait six months until it grew. One side was shorter then the other and I was told again to let it grow out. What about a hair style that I could live with right now. I was also told I could come back for temporary color which would only cover about 60%. I have no idea why I was treated so badly and so unprofessional. I was so upset but when I went back to talk about these things I was given no satisfaction. This salon is just not the right one if you are looking for a great cut/color for now not in six months. In other words if you have long hair they can deal with you. I have to now live with these mistakes and cannot do anything about it. read more
