Randomly stopped by this spot after a morning trek around Camano Island. We had skipped breakfast so we were starving and this place hit the spot. Located right off the main road in Stanwood, it was easy to find with plenty of parking. This is an old volunteer firehouse, and they left a lot of the original details. We were one of the first customers there on a Sunday afternoon and grabbed a nice shady table outside on a beautiful afternoon. Looking over the menu I was very pleasantly surprised with all the vegan and vegetarian options! Usually beer bars or breweries are lacking in the veg department but this place did not disappoint. I went for the tofu Bahn Mi (with VEGAN aioli) + tots, and my husband got the turkey, bacon, avocado melt + fries. Food was amazing. You can tell they are really taking the time here to make quality stuff. Alongside a great selection of their local beers plus some featured PNW breweries it was an all around perfect lunch. I had a steak taco, and a pork slider. Perfect for a small lunch/bite. The steak was tender served on a corn tortilla (by choice) with corn salsa, cabbage, and a cream sauce. Get the red salsa - it was very complimenting. The pork slider was a perfect bite size and the port was succulent. Pork bahn mi was legit. Tater tots were crispy and fresh. Oh wait....it's all gone. That's what happens when it's THAT good!! It was pork belly special, and my husband, Martin, diverted from his normal poutine order. He has a new favorite. We love SAAL! Everything is good here, their burgers are delicious and it is always so hard to choose between the tots or fries, both are great. I also really like their grilled turkey, bacon and cheese sandwich. You can't go wrong with any choice of their appetizers, either. The staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

Food is overpriced and very subpar. I've ordered quite a few different things and it's all been a waste of money. The atmosphere is cool but they definitely missed the mark on the food. I don't think I'll be coming back here. read more

The hubby & I came in around 2pm on a week day. We were greeted by a lovely waitress/bartender, & she gave us some great options. The place isn't very big, but there were about 3 people at the bar, & 2 other tables occupied. I had looked at the menu, as well as the owners story beforehand so I was more prepared. I noticed that the man,(the owner), had spoken with the table behind us a couple of times, but completely ignored our table. I thought that was weird since it wasn't packed; we were right next to them, & it's just good business to say welcome in or hello at least. I do have to say that we loved our beer, fries, & pulled pork sandwiches. The grilled cheese was okay, but needed spice, an aioli, or something. We ordered the candied bacon,(DO IT), & that made it perfect! Lastly, we saw a lady,(the owner), as we walked out....she just stepped out of our way, made little eye contact, & said nothing....dumbfounded Because of your food, & your waitress, we will give it 1 more shot. This is a small town, where people talk, hold doors for each other, & look out for each other....making somebody actually feel welcome in your establishment will probably go a long way- read more

New to the Stanwood area. Currently serving a number of local craft beers, Ciders, Hard Kombucha, wine and sodas while awaiting their brewing permit to clear. As of this writing , they are getting close to getting everything approved. Their food offerings are of good quality "pub-grub", Small Plates and Sharables with a good selection of daily specials. We were big fans of SAAL Brewing before our current crisis hit and now we are even bigger fans. The takeout menu is EXCEPTIONAL. We have taken home the family-sized shepherd pie which was comfort food at it's best and provided dinner and leftover lunches. We have also had the blackened cod sandwiches and my favorite, the pork banh mi...delicious. Add that they are following all the public health guidelines. We look forward to when we can return, sit outside or at the bar and celebrate the good food and community spirit offered by this establishment. read more

Let me start by saying I found the Saal brewery by accident. I was looking for the bar leather heads but to my surprise it was closed down, sold and replaced with the Saal brewery. The bartender's are amazing, the food is great, so why the two star rating? THE OWNERS,. If they don't like you, that's it. Now I don't know of another bar (bar because they sell beer, not brewery because they don't sell their own brewed beer) that you can go to, drink and support and then basically get told, you're not welcome. I am local, I am a retired vet, 21 years in the Marines and I have Never been disrespected like I was this evening at the Saal brewery. Not saying don't go there but if you hear what I am saying, you'll understand! read more

My first time at saal was before COVID started. Wife had the Putin and I had a tadoori chicken wrap. Putin was good but really really salty. My wrap however had no tandoori, Indian spice or flavor for that matter. Just went again today, service was fine. I had the saal burger. I thought great, keep it simple, a burger, right. Again really no flavor at all. Pretty disappointed as I like the old firehouse setting and all. What do you want for only $14, I guess? Second stop at Saal was just as good as our first. They have a children's menu and kindly welcome kids. The staff is attentive and friendly and the food and beer is great!! We def will not pass this exit off of I5 without making a stop again!! read more

Service ok, food average, management abysmal. Been there three times, each time a degraded experience. The last two times, the manager seemed to have a look on his face like someone ran over his cat. Zero people skills...tried to engage with him on our second visit and left giving him the benefit of the doubt that he must just be having a bad day (understandable - everyone has them, but should a customer have to consider this when trying to enjoy the atmosphere?). Last visit the other night (4 months later) - same manager had the same unhappy demeanor. I had a customer complaint this time, and his response was to speak to you like a robot and then without warning simply cut you and your party off. Owner had similar demeanor and was not approachable. A real strange experience provided by people in the service industry - almost like they are put out if they have to engage with an unhappy customer - theirs apparently being = sit down - shut up - eat - leave.
