It's been a couple years since I last have been here. I brought my friend Ben here. To me, this place is more of a plate lunch place rather than a family style dish sharing meal venue. In other words, when I dine here, I usually am alone, but if I come with someone else, I don't want to share my food. Ben ordered yellow chicken curry. I ordered the pad gra pow, my go-to one dish meal. Same same, but different. The pad gra pow had less basil and a lot of ground pork. It also had onions, bell peppers (both green and red), carrots, bamboo shoots, and beans. I prefer fewer veggies in my pad gra pow, but most of the above items were sparsely used so it was good. The taste is slightly different since different cooks use similar ingredients but vary the amount of flavorings. I can only comment on the pad gra pao since that is the only dish I have ever eaten here, but have eaten it more than a dozen times over the years. It's good. read more

Ambiance - don't expect too much because it's really a hole in wall kind of spot and I LOVE it. Feels like i'm dining in someone's house. It's on the corner of the street and if you get lucky, there's parking in front. If not, there's plenty of street parking or in Don Quijote. Food - soooo tasty and flavorful. Beware, Laotian spice level is REALLY SPICY. I like some heat but I can only take on mild. But my friends that loves spicy food says that their spice is something you can enjoy and eat a lot of. We've been here several times and enjoyed all the dishes we had. Love the crispy rice salad! Always a favorite. We also enjoy their curries, pad thai, stir fry long beans, sticky rice. It's a quaint little restaurant with a friendly owner. The TV is always playing videos showing foods of Thailand. We usually park at Don Quixote across the street and walk over- they do have parking in back of restaurant and a few stalls in front on street. read more

The restaurant is very simple not much decoration. It may not be fancy but don't judge the book by its cover. Let me tell you, the food is awesome!!! Today I ordered Somtum Plara, it was very delicious. I'm originally from Thailand and I felt like I'm eating it in Thailand. The food was very authentic. Especially if you love spicy food, this place is a must go. If you can't handle the spicy not to worry, they can adjust the spicy level accordingly to your preference. All the staffs here were very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. They were going above and beyond. Love this place. Definitely will come back if I ever come to visit Hawaii again in the future. Rain & Romance Over Thai, Glad We Breezed On By: It was a rainy night, when Beau & I, decided to come here. And, it was our first dinner date, alone in Hawaii !! We had just left behind a long line of patrons. at our hotel's steakhouse, impulsively deciding, on more exotic cuisine!! So towards here, we careened, off the beaten path, towards an altogether different scene!! As we entered, we saw a lone boy dining, slurping from a big bowl of noodles. We sat nearby, in a booth, observing the decor of this corner eatery!! It seemed to be a quaint dive, decorated with a hodge podge, of Thai & Chinese artwork & fabric, hung & draped upon walls & tables..Even spooky remnants of Halloween were left behind, adding to the charming medley... Soon, a lady emerged, who appeared to be friendly. But, I was a bit perplexed in learning: they do not offer hot tea ?!! Now, how could this be?! At least, Beau, was able to have his usual, Thai Iced Tea. And, as he sipped his cold drink, we took our time, perusing the menu..After a bit, the lady cook returned, saying in place of wonton soup, which she does not have, she can offer, udong noodles--freshly made by herself, for soup! At my appearing confused, the boy of Asian descent, sitting nearby, cheerfully piped in, saying: It's like chicken noodle soup; I always order it; it's really good!! I thanked the boy, & thought this over. In the end, I decided to stick with what I knew: my traditional order of Tom Kha Soup. In addition, we ordered Beef Penang Curry, & a Garlic Shrimp Plate..After not too long of a wait, our dishes arrived, & we found they Tasted Great!! As we enjoyed our meal, another lady emerged, asking how things were..We inquired of the Mac Salad, which was supposed to accompany my Shrimp Plate. The lady explained, the Mac Salad is no longer offered. No worries, as my meal came with a side of mushrooms & rice! And, how nice it was, to sip hot spicy soup, as it rained outside! Indeed, how cosy it was, having the restaurant, All To Ourselves, & finding the food to be flavorful!! And, my Tom Kha Soup, especially, was found thicker & spicier, than what seemed usual! My soup, seemed nearly as rich as a curry, and with rice, could have served as a meal in itself! Whereas Beau's, Penang Curry, was called Cashew Curry, as the lady set it down!! Had they ground cashews for the paste, instead of peanuts? Now cashews, seemed more luxurious!!! Yes, dinner had been lovely!! And, as we readied to leave, we were offered help, with packing leftovers, and offered to stay safe from the rain, beneath their awning!! What Rainy Romantic Dinner Date, With Beau, My Darling !!! Satiated, we happily headed back, driven by our sweet Uber driver lady, who simply gushed over how good the food smelled!!! Yes, we were happy we'd come here, & that All Had Gone Well.. The drunken noodles were extremely hot. I can eat spicy food but this I couldn't even eat. Was not asked spice level upon ordering. The flavor was good but I couldn't taste anything after a few bites. The yellow curry was extremely fishy. All I could taste was very salty fish sauce. It was very watery. Not a lot of vegetables. Just some cabbage bits and carrots. The service was great! The woman offered hot sauce that was tasty. Two dishes was about $35. Lately, I had a terrible stomach ache the next morning. Coming late out of our conference meeting, our group of 15-ish walked a block north of the convention center to find this cozy Thai joint. With our cohort quickly taking over the 3-4 tables, the friendly and welcoming owners helped us move tables and find seating for everyone before promptly passing out waters and menus. Plates began arriving not long after our orders were placed, fresh from the kitchen - here are my thoughts on what I tried: Penang curry - Nutty and sweet, this creamy curry was packed with goodies and was just thick enough to spoon over rice; definitely curious to try the other curries if this one turned out so well! Crispy rice (nam khao tod) - This generously-sized portion of crispy rice with sausage was outstanding, balancing texture with savory flavor and a hint of acidity. Get one for the table to share as an appetizer. Drunken noodles (pad ki mao) - These came out screaming hot (temperature-wise), which is always a good sign when it comes to fried noodles. We loved the tender, saucy noodles, and the shrimps were plump and delicious. Spring rolls - These guys were fried to perfection, served with ESSENTIAL accoutrements in the form of herbs, rice noodles, and tangy sauce. I was the only one wrapping them in the lettuce - more for me! Thai tea - A little bit on the sweet side for me, but a welcome respite from some of the spicier foods. We were so impressed by their hospitality and their willingness to take on such a large group. They even obliged our request to take a big group photo and do a little bit of bill splitting - even more memorable than the amazing food was just how kind and patient the staff were. If I'm ever back in Honolulu I'll definitely have to swing by Sabb for lunch or dinner! read more

Did not disappoint!! Food and service were awesome. We dinned early so plenty seating, and didn't have to wait long for water or menus. Food came out fast and was hot right from the cook. Food was SO GOOD. Drunken noodles were nice and fat like hand cut kine, plenty veggies and meat. Spice level was perfect. Pad Thai noodles were so chewy and flavorful-- no funk like sometimes get in pad thai. Service was excellent-- the server kept our water glasses full the whole time we were there. It's been 6 years, since I have been to Sabb Thai (see my earlier review), I thought why not give it another try. It's a short walk from my Condo and I knew spring rolls would be perfect for my Happy Hour Wine. I checked the reviews again and the menu and saw that the price of their Spring Rolls had gone up to $12.95. I called in my order. When I got there, the spring rolls were ready and I gave the man I spoke with a $20. bill, expecting change. He gave me back a $5. bill. When I questioned him, he said the price of the spring rolls had gone up a dollar and with tax totaled over $14. No explanation as to why I only got $5. back. Not wanting to make an issue and knowing I could Yelp my experience. I got home, called the restaurant back and that same man answered. I told him that even if the price had gone up a dollar, with tax I should have received more than $5. back and it wasn't up to him to round it off. Further, he should not take advantage of customers, especially Seniors. He apologized, said he was sorry. I'm sorry too, this establishment has good food, but not at the expense of being ripped off, even if it's just change (46cents). I went by and saw the menu posted and did confirm the price increase. Beware! I suggest checking your bill, if you get one. I also read an earlier Yelp review that mentioned tax was included in their prices. Not sure if it's worth going back, much as I want to eat their Lao Udon Soup! read more

Umm WOW! The portion are plentiful. Decided to order this at work one day this week and everyone enjoyed their food! I had the panang curry with the green papaya salad- both extra spicy. The papaya salad was Laotian style and was delicious. I felt like it had so many Thai peppers and still tasty! I had vegetables in the panang curry and it was good vegetable! Fresh, no canned veggies! It was a good ratio. The amount of food was great as well as the taste. The delivery fee was only $4.99. The prices are reasonable too. Amazingly delicious food! Great home cooked meals served by friendly staff. I ordered a feast to be catered for my team to celebrate a special occasion that same evening my husband and I ate there. It was that good!!! Must try the Lao sausage..omg a burst of delicious flavors!! The red curry and sticky rice was scrumptious!! If they have their oxtail pho when you visit, try it!! The bbq Stick was the best we've had!! Must also try their Lao style papaya salad! We will definitely come back for more of their delectable food! I came for lunch with my dad one day after running some errands in the general area. We ended up only sharing one dish as were not too hungry but something quick and small to satisfy our hunger during the lunch period. Pros: (1) place clean; and (2) employees nice. Cons: (1) no parking lot, street parking only so yeah, parking can be a pain depending on when you show up; (2) my dad and I shared a chicken pad thai dish and needless to say it was less than stellar. There seemed to be a lot of "gravy" on the noodles (please see my photo). I'm no expert on vietnamese dishes but of the few times I've been to other places and ordered the exact same dish, there was never any "gravy." So needless to say I don't think this is "normal" for this dish to have "gravy." I gave this place 3-stars because I do want to see them be successful in their culinary trip. Really really flavorful pad Thai and red curry. I always get these two dishes whenever I come here. The service is fast - the food comes out steaming hot and super fresh. The workers are friendly as well. They never fail to disappoint and their rice is so Ono (I can't quite put my finger on what they do/how they may season their rice but it's super good nonetheless).
