About 20 years ago this restaurant (different name then) was on Kaheka St. I worked in Pearl City then and someone would drive all the way to town to pick up our food. There was only street parking so someone always accompanied the driver to run and pick up our orders. We all loved it. Must of to drive all the way in town. While I've been to The Lanai many times, I guess I never looked at their menu closely because I didn't realize it was the same place. After the Kaheka restaurant was closed (I heard Kevin and his wife were divorcing) and I never saw it when it was rumored to be in the food court. So I was really happy to find it again. While it initially seemed the same, it's not. The potato isn't rolled like it used to be. Before I could pick it up like a toquito with my chopsticks. Now it's like meat draped over the potatoes, much messier to eat. And there isn't a choice between brown and white rice (only white). But I still love their garlic chips over the meat. We stopped by over the weekend and got their boneless Kalbi plate for $17.90. The plate came with a generous serving of boneless kalbi on a bed of romaine lettuce, topped with an egg (your way) and garlic chips. The meat was perfectly seasoned, tender and juicy. The garlic chips are optional but they're also my favorite part! While the plate was super delicious, I think the best deal is their boneless kalbi bowl. For $4.50 less, you can get the same amount of meat, minus the lettuce and extra scoop of rice. Do I smell a deal? I sure do! The service is fast and friendly. We'll be back soon to try their steak. When eating at the mall I usually gravitate to a few places I know well. Today, I decided to try something new. Teppanyaki Farmer caught my eye because I was in the mood for something fresh and flavorful. I went with the shrimp burrito. When you order you get to choose your protein, white or brown rice, and the sauce. I chose dynamite and because I like it spicy I also went with the optional jalapenos! I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful this was. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and there was a good amount of texture with the rice and greens. My food came out quickly. We were looking for a place for lunch and decided to go with the beef roll. I've had this before and wanted to eat it again. The beef roll are several thin slices of beef rolled with shredded potato on the inside of it and cooked over the grill. It is served with white rice or with brown rice for an additional charge and with toss salad but no dressing. It comes with some ponzu sauce and additional toppings if wanted (fried garlic chips, wasabi sauce, spicy sauce, and bbq sauce). I decided to get the garlic chips and initially wanted some hot sauce, but I opted for no additional sauce because I thought the ponzu sauce would have been enough flavor. The garlic chips were bitter and not like other garlic chips I've had that enhance the flavor. It was so bitter that I had to remove them from my food. The hot sauce added more flavor to the beef roll. The cashier was initially nice. I got seated to eat and took a bite into my food but the ponzu sauce did not add much flavor so I went back to order some hot sauce. I walked up to the counter and asked for some hot sauce and another cashier said that they didn't have any. I told him that the other employee who initially helped me (who was standing behind him) had told me earlier that I could have some but that it would be an additional charge for the container. The cook then told me to bring my plate to him and I kindly asked for it on the side. The employee who initially took my order then came up to me and proceeded to tell me that I told her earlier that I didn't want hot sauce. I told yes but changed my mind and now would like to buy some. She got upset and walked away. I then had to explain to the cashier one more time that I wanted some hot sauce and was willing to pay for it, mind you I had money in my hand. Another employee filled a plastic container with some siracha. I was charged $0.52 for the hot sauce which was fine. The employee who initially took my order didn't even want to hand me the hot sauce. She made another employee hand it to me. I couldn't believe what just happened when all I wanted was some hot sauce for my food. This restaurant offers order only and is located in the Lanai Food Court at Ala Moana Center just outside of Macy's. It is in the corner near the restrooms. It is a little loud in there but acceptable due to it being a food court. The food was just okay and didn't have much flavor. The service was not acceptable. I'm not sure if they thought I didn't want to pay for the hot sauce but I was more than willing to pay and knew that there was a charge. Really want to love this place. But when you charge $18-$20 for a burrito, be prepared for honest feedback. The taste of the short rib is quite good. The teppanyaki style retains the flavor of the meat without drying it out. And the portion is large. You definitely don't feel cheated. But there were a few drawbacks: - Dynamite sauce: It tasted more like Thousand Island dressing than a spicy mayo dynamite sauce I was expecting. Had I known this, I would've opted for different sauce, but honestly I should've eaten this without any sauce since the short rib was actually quite delicious. - Lettuce: Might be minor, but the type of lettuce used may have impacted the quality of the dish. It was a green lettuce used in a sandwich. Problem with this is that combined with the sauce, it makes it really soggy. I found myself picking the lettuce out of the burrito. There's a reason why many burrito spots use iceberg lettuce (if they use lettuce at all). Iceberg lettuce doesn't make the burrito soggy. Using a different type of lettuce doesn't enhance the taste, but can ruin the burrito. Last thing you want is a soggy burrito, courtesy of the lettuce. Onions: They are a bit stringy. Again, a minor ingredient that negatively impacts I'd try this again, but if I were getting a burrito, I'd ask for no lettuce and no sauce. Can't let the minor ingredients impact the overall quality of an otherwise tasty dish. But if you are charging $20 for a burrito, these details need to be cleaned up. read more

And a choice or combinations of 3 sauces: wasabi, spicy (sriracha), and BBQ. A container of ponzu dipping sauce is also included. I opted for just the wasabi sauce. It's pretty strong and some parts are way way wasabi concentrated. Lol... like sinus clearing level of wasabi. I like wasabi though so that was alright ;D I liked that the beef and potatoes aren't seasoned as to showcase the authentic flavors and freshness of each item. The ponzu sauce paired perfectly with the rice, beef and potatoes. It also helped to dilute the wasabi sauce a smidge. I also got to try the spicy sauce version and it reminded me a lot of sriracha. This might be a good option for someone who enjoys spicy but not the wasabi variety. I'm sure the BBQ sauce is also delicious... Or, you can eat at the tables in the food court but sometimes it can be hard to find a table. If you're in a rush or ordering a bunch of plates, definitely call ahead since they take phone orders and it can be a little of a wait since they make it fresh! Like everywhere else, food prices are skyrocketing and at $18 per plate, we choose to eat here because we love the food. Hubby and I are trying to lose a few of the after holiday pounds so we ordered our rolls with all tossed salad and my daughter and boyfriend ordered it with rice and toss. The plates did not disappoint. The thinly sliced beef is rolled around thinly shredded potato and served with ponzu sauce. It's so yummy. Because it's located at a shopping mall, there's always lots of free parking and chances to find a seat in the air conditioned food court is great. Don't expect a quiet cozy environment. Normally the service is good for a food court counter. The thing that was disappointing this evening was the service. The cashier did not thank us ... he just handed me my receipt. We also waited really long time for our order. At least six patrons who ordered after us received their orders before us. When we finally received our order, we hoped for at least a "thank you" or "sorry for keeping waiting". Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Please don't get me wrong. We have followed the owner from when they started as a food truck. We will continue to visit because we enjoy the food. Everything is freshly prepared on the grill in front of you, which is nice, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how good the burrito was. It's a little cheesy, a little spicy, and very flavorful. The wait wasn't too long on a Monday, and definitely more seats and less crowded than on Saturday. The steak plate was also good, the steak comes over some kind of hash brown like potatoes, so a very hearty lunch indeed!
